View Full Version : Cinema advertising?

Anyone seen any ads/trailers for upcoming games at the cinema? I don't think I have before... or maybe just once or twice at most... just watching that intro movie again... it would 0WN if they had that pumped out at film resolution, bunged it on before a movie or two, and just tagged on a screen at the end saying "coming soon to PC and Xbox".

I wonder if Valve or Id would do something similar? (or rather the production companies behind them, i.e. Eidos instead of Ion Storm for DX2... probably too much advertising money involved...) :)

What do you think?

Sadly, I've seen TV spots for Splinter Cell with the XBox logo, and then later with the PS2 "coming soon". No mention of the PC version :( .

I know War3 had a CG trailer in cinemas.

Splinter Cell is on all formats.

By the way: http://www.mk-games.tk - my website, it's new. It has preview stuff on Splinter Cell 2, seeing as I brought up the subject of SPlinter CEll.

Well then DX:IW would be the first. Then if it was the ONLY PC game being advertised in the cinemas then it wouldn't have any competition! :D

i reckon they dont advetise at cinemas due to the cost of advertising. - i dont know how much money games make but it cant be in the same league as films racking in hundereds of millions.

Fun Fact: The movie industry is the second largest in the United States, right behind video games.

Aah, but there are much more video games than there are movies. Therefore each video game has less money than each movie does.:p

Not actually true. I've read that hollywood alone puts out something like 600 odd movies a year.

He meant that video games make more money than movies; games are an approx. $10 billion business whereas movies are $9 billion.

I've seen the theatrical trailers for Splinter Cell & WC3, but nothing else.

I read an article about a guy who basically said the "video games industry is as big as the movie industry" thing is bull****, and that the games industry was much smaller , etc. I can't find the link :(

the publishers of the games might get as much money as motion pictures, but unfortunatly we don't see Warren Spector or the voice actor of Waltor Simons racking in the millions of people like steven spieldberg or Tom Hanks :( ah, woe are the game makers
