Well, Hi, I'm new, and I know Some stuff...
Here's the beginning. Secret training level -- Located at Parasian Back streets, Where you must climb down the ladder,
Don't Pick up the key, Use A cheat (Turn on Invisibility,And God Mode) Make Lara Fall, Go down the stairs, Walk Thru the Door, And There you are. [Kinda Buggy]
First Removed Thing is, The Function That Tells You what Lara needs, like a medpack or something.
Second, some Places, And a Newspaper guy (Dunno the Word)
Where Lara Gets The Information , that, Carvier Has been Killed.
Then At the herbalist Lara asked the Story Of the Doorman.
How Does she know that Question? From the Removed Newspaper .
Third Is Putai and Lara's amulet. Putai is Talking to Lara Somehow, Maybe when she's Asleep.
Fourth Is, You can do Some Moves, and they aren't that Important. Handstand, Walk-Jump, Stylish backflip, sprint-Jump.
That's all I found.
Many Text is removed too.

That's all for now folks.

Here are some subtitle texts that were kicked out of the real game:

Sweet mother Lud****, don't do that! Someone was in the alley. Did you see them?
Yes. It was Bouchard leaving the shop. He was in a real hurry.
Bouchard? Bouchard's dead! I've just seen his corpse in there
It must have been Karel. Maybe that's the part where Lara hears his name, but it seems to be left out.

Found an intruder Bouchard. Says she needs to see you.
Tell her I'm busy and throw her out.

There is a great darkness ahead of you Lara. Remember the amulet. And use your strength wisely. You are ready.
Where are you Putai?
Where I have always been. Remember the amulet.

OK, let's kill something.
Bring on the bad guys.
Great, broccoli with attitude.
The grass in here needs cutting - badly.
Where's a good lawnmower when you need one.
Just for once it'd be nice to walk into a room and not have the statues try to kill me.
Raw meat on the menu - again.
It's a kill zone in here
No more running - it's showtime!
Time to die, Monkey!
C'mon Bobo, don't be shy.
*****!
Rot in hell!
Where's the coffee?

No sign of Janko still. Three days he's been missing now.
Have you done your paperwork yet?
I don't care where the generator is. I'm not going down to level 6.

The following were made after a party @ Core, when they were all drunk.

The newspapers about Carvier:

PARISIAN 'MONSTRUM' KILLINGS CONTINUE. LARA CROFT WANTED FOR QUESTIONING. The latest victim of the Paris 'Monstrum' was discovered yesterday. The mutilated body of professor Margot Carvier was found after a woman was seen leaving the building under suspicious circumstances. The police are anxious to interview Lara Croft. The notorious Monstrum serial killer has periodically terrorized Paris and other European capitals over the last decade. A characteristic of these brutal attacks is the bizarre metallic eruptions on many parts of the victims' bodies. Forensic specialists are mystified by the process involved. There have been no reports of any survivors of these unconnected attacks.

NEWSFLASH - The Monstrum has struck again. This time the victim was a professor Margot Carvier of the department of Medieval and Renaissance Studies at the Louvre. Her body was discovered yesterday and police want to interview a woman seen leaving the premises around the time of the murder. She is described as Caucasian, brunette, about 1.8m and slim build. When last seen she was wearing jeans, dark jacket and a pony tail. This follows the similar murder of Prof Werner Von Croy a world renowned archaeologist murdered two days ago in his apartment.

And read these. Did Core plan to give Lara a small radio to listen what the police says?

Clean sweep.
Come in team four.
Check in 'A' zone.
All clean in this sector.
Suspect spotted!
Back up! Back up!
Flank me.
Check that alleyway.
There she is!
Suspect apprehended. Repeat - suspect apprehended.
Suspect has escaped! Suspect is loose!
Suspect has entered the building.
Cover the back!
Call for backup!
Suspect has moved to the second floor.
Suspect on third floor.
Third floor clear.
Suspect on fourth floor.
Fourth floor clear.
Suspect on roof.
Call for air support.
Surrender!
Throw down your weapons.

Or these.

I have no more room. I have to drop an item.
I'm getting tired, need to rest soon.
You are almost returned to your full powers now.
Mon dieu, that's gunfire!
Thugs! Terrorists! Street gangs!
It's the Monstrum!
Get out! Use the fire escape!

We NEED to start a petition for Core so they give us the complete aod. And without having to buy it again. Just bring our current AOD copy to the shop and getting a new version containing EVERYTHING. Including silencer, harpoon gun, laser sight, mines, buying things. Just everything!

I read those files as well...quite entertaining, some of them, and it's a very interesting insight into how the game would have been, had it been properly finished. There's a little sort of tutorial section from Kurtis in there somewhere about how to use his Chirugai and farsee powers.....if only!

Very interesting, thanks.

I see a lot of deleted dialogue, Eckhardt's diatribe against the Lux Veritatis, Lara exclaiming about having found non-lethal weapons, and the weapons (such as the Luger called a Rigg) have their proper names.

Looks like the game was about 70% of what it was intended to be.

Reading all this, I just can't stop wondering what could have been...
I know they had to release AoD and cut out almost 50% of the original game, but what a game this could have been when they actually did use Kurtis' far-seeing ability, when they did use all the items Lara found on her way, like Von Croys walking stick...

Eidos probably had to release AoD because of Angelina Jolies Cradle of Life. 'If you like the movie, buy the game'.
Maybe it was a better solution to release it with the DVD-release of Cradle of Life, around Christmas. Like this, Core had more time to complete AoD and release it in a 'gifts' period when people actually buy and play games (because it's cold outside :D )

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed playing AoD. But it would have been nice to play the full game, and not the bèta-version, quickly put together to please Eidos, nervous fans and (perhaps even) Paramount pictures.

Kalador

Maybe those promises being made by JHSmith about how good AOD was gona werent that empty. If only we were allowed to play Kurtis how he was meant to be played.

projo
3rd Aug 2003, 13:00
AOD was obviously larger, longer, and with more features.

What this all sounds like to me is big business making more stupid decisions.

What we don't know is how or why this happened.

Maybe CORE was demanding too big a slice of the pie, and someone higher up decided to stack the deck against them, in favor of finding another group to make TR.

One of my favorite comic strips is Dilbert. If you don't know about Dilbert, it is basically about people in a business run by incompetents (the Pointy-Haired Boss, and others) who are continually ruining every attempt to make anything of value.

I suspect the Pointy-Haired Boss.

Here is the conversation between Lara and the newspaper boy:

What can I get you M'moiselle?
Do you know someone called Bouchard.
I've been on this spot for five years. I know everyone.
Do you know how he can be contacted?
Directly? No. And I hope I never have to.
To save time how could I avoid having to talk to every inhabitant this side of the river?
Without the right connections - my guess, no one would talk to you
The right connections?
And a lot depends on how you ask your questions, not who you ask.
I've found that already.
Everyone on the streets is terrified at the moment.
Well, let's say I offered to 'buy' something from someone
...they might remember something helpful. But what do I know. I only sell papers and magazines M'moiselle
Do you have any foreign language newspapers? The London Times?
As chance would have it I do.
Do you do barter?
Sorry. Cash only.
Is there anywhere to get a drink nearby?
Try Café Metro. The coffee is good even if the owner is a complete loser.
Merci
Thank you
You're welcome. Do you want change?
Keep it.
Merci. By the way, if you go into any shops ask about the story of the Doorman.
The Doorman. Will that help me find Bouchard?
Maybe. It's just a friendly suggestion. But don't waste your time at Café Metro.
Oh? Why not?
The owner is a complete loser. He's well known for it. Bon chance.

Then the full list of friendly characters in the game. I might have missed some, but there are some that are not in the game:

ANTON
X_JANITO - Bernard.
BOUCHARD - The guy Lara is searching in Parisian Ghetto.
CHAUFFER
CHINAMAN - Herbalist.
RENNES - Pawnshop.
DOORMAN - Bouchard Bodyguard.
DOORVINE
DRUGDEAL - City Guide.
FISH
FRANCINE - Pierre's ex.
MULLER - The green guy from the Bio Research Facility.
JANICE - 'Works' in Parisian Ghetto.
KURTIS - The idiot sitting in Cafe Metro.
LAB_2
LUD**** - Mr Reporter.
ROUZIC
MELTED
CARVIER - Granny from the Louvre.
PIERRE - Cafe Owner.
RAVEN
TRAMP_A - Homeless guy in the tunnel.
TRAMP_B - Another homeless guy in the tunnel.
TRAMPDOG - The dog of the homeless guys.

And finally 2 parts of some levels. You can do a lot there, but nothing happens that effects the gameplay:

Maximum Containment Area
After using the security pass to unlock the doors, you will get in a section where you can walk around a room. Inside the room is the Proto. Open the doors and the proto escapes. Follow him. He will kill a guard and escape. Duck and go though the hole where the guard was. Go down the stairs. You will get into the big room where they kept the Proto, till they lost power. Walk up to the centre and climb on the building. Jump to a platform on the right. Follow this path. You will be in a maze. Find your way in it and you will get in a room with 2 dead guards. One of them has a security pass. Press the button to open the door and you are back where you started.
A security pass and 10% health. That's all for this big part? And why you need a security pass? You can already get into the power room with the pass you already have!

Aquatic Research Centre
After turning the power on, go to the top floor and pull the box unto the moveable platform. Press the switch to move it. Then push the box into the building. Press the lever to fill it with some red stuff. Then push it back on the moveable platform and press the switch. You will get an upgrade. Push the box on the platform in the centre of the room. Now go down and go in the building with the trapdoor. Exit the building and climb the pipes to the top. Press the switch to move the platform. Stand on it and move to the other side. Go in the building and go left. Press the lever. This will lower the box into the water.
Then go through the other door. Kill the guard and search for 2 hidden cupbaords with ammo. Take a look around on the Fish Research Area.
Now exit to the water room again and jump in the water. There is a strange effect underwater where the fish swims. You can do this more times and the effect will get bigger.
Nice to have such special effect, but what can you do with it?

Kalador
3rd Aug 2003, 20:57
Anyway, I've got the name of the seabeast, the big one.
It's Razorjaw ..... What kind of name is that?:D

Kinda Sad they removed TOO many things, :(

Raven
3rd Aug 2003, 21:53
The more I read about this, the more saddening it is. Personally, I am really enjoying AoD, especially now that I've changed some obscure hardware setting and put paid to the freezes and missing textures. But it's really cruddy that there was so much more planned which is now lost, probably forever....AoD would have been a much richer, and more involving game.
If you look carefully in the Prima strategy guide, you can see the odd picture of areas which were obviously designed but never included in game, such as a bit in the opening level where you have to evade the police.
Kalador, I thought the sea monster was called Leviathan. That's what the strategy guide says....

Its interesting to see all the extra dialogue there!

Not wishing to sound like I am definding Core, but many months ago, a pre release version of AOD was taken to a trade show - I didn't see it, I heard a review of it. At the time, Core were saying "yeah its got this its got that and its gonna be ready soon".

I inferred from this that their whole plan was implemented. I have mentioned my theory elsewhere but any totally wacko idea is worth reiterating - cos no one ever listens anyway - I think it more likely that someone decided the game was too involved and took a lot of the stuff out, rather than it never getting in.

I know this theory is hard to accept, but the level at which the game is played (a helping hand for *** sake?) is way below the level that was advertised by all the pre release hype. Suddenly there are huge delays and a game is released with loads of bits missing that have a slight hint of having been removed hastily and patched over?

I would really like to know if the popular opinion is true - did Core mess up and not get their act together, or did someone make them dumb the game down?

Boy I watch way too much X files!

TRWad
4th Aug 2003, 20:04
Read this. It's a mail from the Gray Reading (PR manager from Core) about the delay. It was send at the end of Januari 2003.

Hi Michiel, at the time of the chat event the game was due out in February. However the game has been set back until the 4th quarter of Eidos' trading, this covers a couple of months so there is no specific date.

They game has been moved back for unknown reasons. That means they had some more months. And in these month a lot of things disapeard. There was an chat event with Gary Reading in Januari. You can find it here:
http://www.laracroftonline.net/chat/chat_event.htm

What mostly suprised me was this:

I visit every tomb raider forum daily, and laugh at alot of it, especially the outspoken Dave J , who I'm disappointed didn't turn up tonight
If he visits all forums, it means they know about all of the bugs in aod. So why not releasing another patch???

millnatla
4th Aug 2003, 20:49
Hey u lot Eidos, have done this before. Have any of u lot played Soul Reaver LOK ,coz i remember using my Action Replay and being able to play loads of dialogue that wasnt even used in the game and listening to it , it sounds like it would have been better. Also with cheats u could unlock another version of the reaver sword that wasnt included in the main game. So looking at the evidence it looks like Eidos promising loads but not delivering and releasing an unfinished game to generate sales figures.

Ho Hum yet again we lose out:(

Next part of the removed stuff from aod. Yes, there is a lot. The older TR games also had stuff left out (Silencer TR5, Valley Temple level TR4, Diary TR4), but aod beats everything.

I found the harpoon gun already in the invent.gmx level, but I also found the flippers item in the strings. Perhaps these are combinated with the LARA_SCUBA_SWIM animations.
Need the scuba gear.
Harpoon gun - Various tips to harpoons. Standard and explosive. One shot. Slow reload. Short or medium range weapon.
Flippers

The sea monster:
It’s a Razorjaw, a mutant sea creature. Extremely deadly and hostile.
This creature is deadly. Beware of the water.
The exit lies underwater. I need to distract the creature.
Pull the feeder crate over to the lift.
Lower the lift into the water.

AOD was going to be much more explosive.
Limpet Mine - Light powered explosive with timer. Can be placed or thrown.
4 Standard Titanium Tipped Spears.
4 Explosive Tipped Spears
Explosives! Your never know when a girl might need to make a bang.

And gernades would be in it too.
Smoke Grenade - For concealment and to reveal hidden laser traps.

Looking at the order of which the level names are, the Café Metro and St. Aicard's Graveyard are last in the list (after prague levels). I'm not sure, but proberly this means that they have been added later. Maybe that explains why the following part of the conversation with Bouchard is left out. Perhaps the first plans did not include the graveyard and cafe metro (that explains buggy pierre) and Lara used another way to enter.
Found an intruder Bouchard. Says she needs to see you.
Tell her I'm busy and throw her out.
(...)
My man will show you out.
No problem. I can find my way.
Ah, but I insist.
In which case ...

About poor little Kurtis:
Chirugai Blade
Let's finish this quickly - Chirugai!
select the Chirugai from the inventory
To throw the Chirugai press the combat button again

Lara says herself that flares are to good to miss. SO WHERE ARE THEY?
I can use this torch.
A torch. Just what I need.
Flares! Too good to miss.

Out of money?
Perfect! A credit card and a pin number.

Strenght (up/down)grade
Slowing down. Need a medi-pack.
I'm feeling weak. Need to increase my health.
I'm tiring. Must get an energy boost.

The mystery surrounding the development of this game gets
greater.I believed that many things were removed, but Jesus...
seeing all the above, seems like they discarded half of the game's

I can imagine a games publisher pushing the developer to meet the deadline, but i can't believe they could ever force them cut the game by 1/2.It certainly has to be something else.

& i still say: when core missed the original 11/02 release date, eidos ordered them to stop all developement on anything in the game that either hadn't been started on or wasn't completed, & take everything else that had been finished & string it all together in such a way that someone could play the game thru to the end...

both eidos & core badly underestimated the amount of time necessary to produce a solid next-gen game engine, & the rushed, kludgy version core came up with, due to it's limitations, very likely altered the originally planned gameplay, resulting in even more delays & revisions to the levels, storyline, etc, etc, etc... basically, the (unfinished) engine's development time ate into the (even more unfinished) game's development time...

i strongly encourage anyone who hasn't already to play 'soul reaver 2' - you'll see that it can be done, & it's just that, basically, in the amount of time agreed to by both parties, core simply wasn't capable of doing it. i think that if lara ever does return via cd, chances are it will be in a much more enjoyable, familiar, 'tomb raider' form. they already have a very nice, time-tested engine / analog control scheme, & can focus all their creative energy on what really counts - fun...

yes,but is it as good as the tr4 engine? or more clumsy movement.aod was a compilation game, copy of others, choco bar?stealth?(if you want to call it that, she should turn 50% invisible, not look like the incredable hulk)the rest of the aod will come out in the add on gold version.aod sucks because they changed the game engine to a substandard version.you cant change an icon, eidos will learn this the hard way, just like coca cola did.a new game engine, worst thing that happened,an enhanced tr4 game engine, thats the way to go.change only within the icon framework and no more.

Only about 15-20% of Soul Reaver was cut. It was just a very eventful 15-20%. In return, fans got at least three more full games instead of 10-15 more hours in SR. It's a fair trade off, if you ask me, although I'd love to get my hands on one of the dev systems with the unfinished areas.

Found these animations:

Lara was originally be able to use a harpoongun underwater. It must the Vault of Trophies, it's the only one with big underwater part.

Lara would be able to hide inside a bin.

Lara was be able to throw objects.

Lara could pickup a box and walk aroung with it.

Found another thing:

That's why there are 2 crowbars in aod. She uses 1 to -uhhh- clean the way out for all the chocolate bars and health pills.

Thanks so much TRWAD! It shows farther more that core has potental to make a great game, they did not receive enough time. And by the way, it did not take core three years to make the TR engine. They were done in a year to two year but had to change a lot due to sony's spec for the ps2. Sony gave them specs very early but changed them a little after core finished AOD game engine, therefor causing core to redo and change everything they did. Yes they should have waited for sony's dev kit, but they wanted a great game out early. That was the huge mistake, not that core isn't capable. I bet if core had enough time and put everything in they wanted and remove the bugs ofcourse, then that game would have been the best game on the ps2 and pc or this generation.;)

I 'd like to know who Luther rouzic is.
It says: "Librarian Honrarium at Prague City Archives. Acknowledged world authority on dead languages and textx. Keeper of the Strahov archives." at Tombraider.com But I haven't seen him in the game... And I'd like to know what some of these screens are and how to get there..

Hmmm... Maybe the list Is complete.

Here is the beginning.

Parisian Back streets:
Originnaly supposed to be this:
When you escape the cops, You don't lose the Backpack,
And you aren't in the Blue Black Clothes and stuff,
YOu're in the Combat Outfit.
Where you start is the same, But when the ladder comes in, you choose the Fire escape, By monkey Swinging Through there.
After that, comes the secret training level, the part where you actually get the Crowbar. You commando crawl thru the gap in the
gate, then you do the stealth Things.
You could get somewhere the amulet of course, it was a secret item.

Someone would help me out Recreating the Gameplay FAQ with the missing parts?

There are a lot of invisible ledges in the secret training level. After you go through the park, you get on the street. Follow it and turn left and at the end is the first one. You can climb on an invisible block, shimmy around the corner to a ledge with a drainpipe. It goes up to another ledge. There is also another drainpipe there with another invisible ledge on the other side of which you are standing. There you can go using a drainpipe.

Lara was in her jeans outfit in the Back Streets. There was a trailer released a more then a year ago and Lara had her jeans in it when escaping the cops. But she changed her clothes after visiting Carvier cause in the Serpent Rouge she had combat outfit. She also had sunglasses in game and not only in cuts.

It's nice to see so many people mentioning Soul Reaver! Here's something interesting about PSone's Soul Reaver, it shows how a company can turn a product from good to excellent if they want to or if they are not rushed. Soul Reaver was supposed to get released on late March 1998 (correct me if the dates are wrong). In fact, the March issue of the Official Uk Playstation Magazine had a review and a demo of the game, by April every single magazine had a review of Soul Reaver. However, the game's release to the shops was cancelled even though it was finished! Soul Reaver came out 6 months later on September, and the game was a lot different (different combat system and interface to name but a few changes) and way better than the version of the demo that was released on March representing the back then finished version of Soul Reaver AND received very positive reviews (let's not forget that the game WAS actually finished on March...). Crystal Dynamics probably loved what they were doing and decided to make it even better even though all the magazines said that Soul Reaver was very good the way it was...
And then there's AOD... It makes you wonder doesn't it?
