Hello...
I had a ATI RAGE PRO card and have replaced it with a Hercules 3D Prophetxt 64 mb.

However, the ATI is part of my motherboard, I have disabled it but cannot remove it completely.

I am geting the familiar error message at start up..d3d...

When I go into Settings, there is no tab for video/graphics, just general, sound, mouse and keyboard.

I think it is something to do with the ATI card and Windows XP...

Before I changed the settings the show up the error message, the opening scenes played well, sound and video, but when the game opens, the graphics fall apart (sound ok)...any thoughts....

Many Thanks!

OK, let me suggest something insane. How about you update your graphic card drivers. Yours are from May 2002. I know advice like that should be in the FAQ thread ... wait a minute.

Thank you, I will try that, guess I thought that just because I bought it new yesterday that everything would be up to date....a lesson....will let you know how I get on...:)

You're problem might not be the ATI RAGE PRO but your 3D Hercules. Does your Hercules card support T&L (transform & lighting)? I had a 3D Hercules Prophet 4500 with 64MB RAM. This card worked on a Kyro II chipset which does not support T&L. This means that the latest 3D games (like Tomb Raider AOD) will not run (or not run properly).

If I look at your post I see a PowerVR Kyro chipset, this might be your problem. Next time you want to change graphics cards, choose a GeForce or Raedon card.

Good luck.

Thanks for that....you might be right because I downloaded an updated driver for Hercules card to no avail (if i did it right) so went off to exchange it for a GeForce 4 card (Blaster 4 mx420).

Installed, better, as it shows up now on Game Settings, but same problem whe actual game starts, graphics ok, but just VERY slow.

Took previous advice and found that date of GeForce4 driver is also 2002, so am sitting here now waiting for hour and a half for new version to download....watch this space....

Does LC have any idea at all about what we go through....?

Eep!

You bought a mx series geforce 4? Those things are just geforce 2 cards a few extra bells and whistles... Not really worth your buck, nor very powerful I'm afraid...

If you need a geforce card from the affordable basket, look into a ti4200. They are almost as good as the ti4400s and 4600s, but for about half the price.
