Anyone ever find a way to view the in-game movies outside of Blood omen 2 (PC of course)

Download Bink + Smacker from radgametools.com, and use it to open the intro and outro dat files in the game data folder.

That works for the .dat files, what about the .san?

Oh, I see what you're asking. No, those aren't movie files per se (they're done in the game engine), so there's no way to view them outside of the game.

What about in Soul Reaver 2 and/or 2? can you get any of the movies, even the starting and finishing one, or do they use the game engine as well?

The intro to SR2 is available on the Soul Reaver 2 Official site, or just go through Eidosinteractive.com select SR2, and go to downloads, should be there. The ending is done in the game engine.

I have a very slow internet connection, it will take me hours to download the movie I've tried.

They need to make all of the LOK games Dark Diaries the same way they are done in the original BO1.

The Dark Diaries need to be videos, NOT words. The SR2 Dark Diary (is more aggravating than I have words for) . Plus, being forced to watch the movie in order to continue the game also (is more aggravating than I have words for) .

They need to make all of the LOK games so that you can jump past the video while you are playing the game. And also make it so that you can go back to the Dark Diary and view the video ONLY IF you want to remember something that was said during the video.

They need to change the Dark Diaries back to the way they were done in BO1.

The added reference following your opinion of "sucking" is not necessary or appropriate in the forum.

I agree that being able to skip the cutscenes would be handy.
OTOH, there's no practical way (at least, IMO) to enable a "dark diary" type of thing for the in-game cutscenes.
The first issue would be load times. With a video, you just tell your FMV-playback routine to play whatever file it is. For a cutscene, you'd have to load all of the appropriate terrain, objects, characters, etc.
The second issue would be coding a system of dependencies into the cutscene and object data - IE for cutscene 1, the dependencies might be the Raziel character (along with his position, orientation, etc.), the Kain character, the Soul Reaver sword, etc. etc.
BO2, for example, doesn't have this kind of dependency thing down entirely. If you start in an arbitrary level, instead of at the beginning or from a save, it won't load the area before it, so you can't backtrack. If you manage to find the "placeholder" weapons used for the cutscenes and break them, they won't appear when you trigger the cutscene.
Personally I don't think it would be worth the expenditure of resources to add this type of feature, since it would (again, IMO) involve adding functionality at a very basic level, and would consume a lot of time.
Maybe I'm wrong, and we'll see something like this in SR3, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I have never played any game that had this type of feature.

It would be cool to have all glyphx cutscenes but you'd be able to notice the difference and with the frequent number of cutscenes in SR2 it wouldn't be as "seamless" and I think would take away from the fluidity of gameplay.

Plus I like the text dark diaries, mainly because it tells you exactly how a character is feeling and the intonation of their speech I find that it gives a better grasp of the given situation.

Having GlyphX do all of the cutscenes would mean each game would take like six years to make =). It *would* be a good way to force DVD-ROM as the format for the PC version, though, since that number of videos would never fit on a CD or two.

Well, Wing Commander 4 (what fond memories I have of that game...) was 6 CDs, so it would be possible for Crystal Dynamics to take that route, but I suppose that they would opt for DVD since it's available. I would certainly be glad to see all PC games shift to DVD.

Excuse me, but the reference that was made in this thread was far from appropriate for our younger members.

Let me guess, you actually didn't read the rules prior to joining the forum? I am all for free speech, but I am also an advocate of tact and respect for my fellow members. There's a time and a place for sexually suggestive discussion and this LOK forum is not it.
