I had the same problem (Nforce motherboard using onboard sound). Enabling hardware acceleration on the audio fixed the problem. Now I need to switch it everytime I play BF1942. *sigh*

Hmm... Whether this problem is one with the warez version or not, I know it's also a problem with the legitimate version, too. For me, the NForce sound needed to have acceleration enabled; without that, there was no sound in the opening cinematic and it crashed to the desktop as soon as the cinematic finished. Enabling hardware accel. solved the problem, though.
