View Full Version : TWEWY Sequel?

Chaser
2nd Jun 2012, 21:05
Would you guys like a sequel to the game? What would you like to see in it?

Personally, I'd like to see 3D models, a new place for the story to take place, more explainations to Joshua and more of that fantastic music!

iambasho777

DEFINATELY NOT 3D models, they just look odd in KHDDD. I would prefer more backstory on Joshua, and more on Mr. H's cryptic message on the non-canon day on Pork tower

I'm going to agree that TWEWY worked with 2D sprites rather than 3D models.

There have been hints that there's interest in making a sequel somewhere down the road, apparently. I'd be happy to see one, but I'm not going to push for it.

iambasho777

Well I heard that Versus is now going full blast with DDD 99.9% done, so after Versus gets released I guess we'll find out what happens next. Most of the team that did TWEwY is on the Versus team from what I've read.

Marluxia

Well maybe they'll surprise us once Versus is over.

Personally I don't mind the 3D models but the 2D are pretty neat themselves.

In the sequel of the Game I would like to see the Game taken over by someone else who has control over Joshua and Mr. H

Also seeing Neku pair up with new characters and maybe the actual Shiki

I would love a sequel I thought there were going to make it eailer through but it was going to be called The World Begins With You

Anyway yeah I would love to see them tell more of a story with the characters and put them in 3D models

I would love to see a sequel!! It'd be great to explain what happened to Joshua and how the gang is living now.

iambasho777
23rd Jun 2012, 21:43
^ What do you mean by "explain what happened to Joshua"?

We found out through the secret report things that Joshua is pretty much God, which is why he can't be with Neku and co. anymore. That's why he was all whited out in the ending, he was a being that transcended what we could see in the plane the ending was in. Dunno what else there is to explain, really. :P

I'd love to see a sequel someday, but I sort of feel like Neku et al.'s stories have already been told, and would like to see the game take place in a new setting, w/new characters and a new story, but still the same gameplay, art/music style and atmosphere.

member_10044686

I would love a sequel, but personally I'd be disappointed if they didn't keep the same art style from the first.

The story should be a few years in the future so we can see what's happened with everyone after the game, with flashbacks explaining what's happened. The gang could have to play the Game again after someone over through Joshua as composer.

All and all though, I'd really just like to see a sequel!

while i would prefer 2d sprites, the original point of twewy was to try out all the features of the ds, so if they made a second, it would probably be for the 3ds, wich i think would actualy work AMAZING by mixing the 2d sprite style with a more 3d (but style same art style) background. the layering system on the 3ds, i think, would work perfectly for a twewy 2.

"Square Enix have erected a new teaser website (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/subaseka/) for a project involving characters designed by Tetsuya Nomura (http://www.siliconera.com/tag/tetsuya-nomura/) and Gen Kobayashi. Here’s a screenshot of the teaser website:

www.siliconera.com/postgallery/?p_gal=23... (http://www.siliconera.com/postgallery/?p_gal=234383|0)

Gen Kobayashi was the lead character art designer on a little game you may remember titled The World Ends With You (http://www.siliconera.com/tag/the-world-ends-with-you/). In Japan, the game was titled Subarashiki Kono Sekai. The URL for this new teaser site contains the word “subaseka”.

Back in April, Nomura, who was creative producer on the original game, teased in a Nintendo Dream (http://www.siliconera.com/2012/04/21/well-there-might-be-something-for-the-world-ends-with-you/) magazine interview: “Right now, there is nothing I can say [about The World Ends With You].There might be something.”

Prior to that, in September 2011, Nomura hinted at something similar (http://www.siliconera.com/2011/09/21/square-enix-are-doing-something-with-the-world-ends-with-you/) in Famitsu magazine. Are Square Enix getting ready to announce something related to The World Ends With You? Keep your fingers crossed.

Update: Thanks to readers RyougaSaotome and DanteJones for alerting us to a remix of “Calling” (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/subaseka/images/NCQKL/sound_3days.mp3) on the game’s website. The song was part of the The World Ends With You’s soundtrack."

Eh, I don't think a TWEwY game would play well on Vita, unless they completely change the gameplay. The only systems I can see it working on are DS, 3DS, and Wii U. 3DS is most likely, if you ask me.

Indeed: if they want to keep the Cross Stride Battle system or at least use a variant of the thing, they need the dual screens. On the other hand, any significant retooling could leave the system choice wide open.

So, in case you guys didn't notice, the music on that site adds a layer of instruments every day until Thursday. On Thursday vocals are added in and it's a mix of Twister, Calling, and Wake Up. I fangasmed SO HARD when I heard it. Though, Wednesday's song (same thing without vocals) is better IMO. If you want to change the song then change your computer's date and restart the browser you're using.

First off, the Japanese Square Enix YouTube account has never allowed people to upvote/downvote videos, or make comments on videos. It isn't just the TWEwY video, so stop acting like the entire internet hates the game. (Edit: It seems I was wrong about the upvote/downvote thing, but I was correct about not allowing comments.)

Second, what makes you hate Solo Remix so much? It's a full port of the original game, just optimized for iOS devices. They even kept the original's touch screen gameplay, and expanded it by adding in partners and some other new things. It's sort of expected, considering the original top screen gameplay wouldn't have worked well; iOS devices have very few physical buttons. Plus, the game looks even better now, and the expanded soundtrack can only mean good things.

At least give the game a try before you say it's crappy or anything of the sort. This looks like it'll be a great way for newcomers to experience the game, and I'm sure that if it sells well enough, Square Enix will make a sequel, if they aren't working on one already. This is an example of how developers should treat iOS ports; not as unoptimized cash-ins, but as games that fully take advantages of the hardware.

Exactly. All of this. I can understand why people can be (mildly, at best) upset for the overdone lead-in to this iOS announcement, but there's absolutely no need to (a) take it out on the game itself and (b) act like, as fans, you are absolutely entitled to Square Enix making a sequel.

Like it or not, mobile devices have become legitimate gaming platforms. If you want to place your blame anywhere, blame it on the consumers who have made things like the iPhone mainstream in the first place, not Square Enix.

Some don't hate the game exactly. Some just hate the fact that Square Enix made a full-fledge countdown just for an iOS port that most The World Ends with You fans didn't expect. And it was a horrible surprise to them. Announcing a sequel would have been much more appealing than announcing something that has already been released, but on a different platform.

Also, there are some fans that were pretty tired of Square Enix hopping on the mobile phone bandwagon and crushing it with games that most likely won't make as much (and maybe already released on another platform or somewhere else) and are not appealing to fans. For example, Mensa Academy.

As for making a sequel altogether, it might end up being in the long progress and speculation Kingdom Hearts III would be in.

I'm not saying I dislike the game. I dislike the way Square Enix presented it, acting like it was going to be a sequel, but instead was a port.

Does anyone think that there is a possibility of a ps vita port? I mean since it is being ported to ios I believe that a vita port would be great.

Your stats look correct to me. (http://imageshack.us/f/809/themanisright.png/)

"Sorry for keeping everyone waiting for new developments with The World Ends With You (http://www.siliconera.com/tag/the-world-ends-with-you/) waiting. Solo Remix is a game with a high level of perfection it won’t feel like a port," Kando said to the magazine. "Players can extend the world further by receiving tweets from Twitter. In addition, we are in the middle of working on various things, but for now please enjoy Solo Remix.""

"The World Ends With You LIVE Event Has Auditions For A Future Game"

www.siliconera.com/2012/09/18/the-world-... (http://www.siliconera.com/2012/09/18/the-world-ends-with-you-live-event-has-auditions-for-a-future-game/)

"This morning, Square Enix announced (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/music/sem/page/subarashiki_crossover/live.html) that, on November 26th, they will be holding a live concert based on the game at the Shibuya O-West concert hall in Shibuya, Tokyo. Composer, Takeharu Ishimoto, who made the announcement, has confirmed he will be present. Further details will be announced at a later date.

This live event will also have another purpose: it will serve as the third stage of an ongoing audition for a vocalist, who will be given the opportunity to participate in a future Square Enix game that Ishimoto is involved in.

Stage 1 involved recording a cover for a song from The World Ends With You (http://www.siliconera.com/tag/the-world-ends-with-you/) . Stage 2 involves a video performance, with the video being published on the net, and viewers being allowed to comment on it. The third and final screening will take place at the live event.

Additionally, Square Enix have also announced a release date for the upcoming The World Ends With You -Crossover- soundtrack album. It will be released on October 10th in Japan for 1,890 yen.

These events are part of an ongoing push for The World Ends With You by Square. It began when characters from the series made guest appearances in Kingdom Hearts 3D (http://www.siliconera.com/tag/kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance/): Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS, with creator, Tetsuya Nomura (http://www.siliconera.com/tag/tetsuya-nomura/), indicating that Square were thinking of the series’ future.

Then, late last month, Square Enix ported The World Ends With You to iOS platforms as The World Ends With You: Solo Remix (http://www.siliconera.com/tag/the-world-ends-with-you-solo-remix/). This version of the game included a teaser (http://www.siliconera.com/2012/08/31/new-7-days-says-a-teaser-in-the-world-ends-with-you-solo-remix/) at the very end that hinted at what was possibly a new project.

Shortly after the release of Solo Remix, the original game’s director, Tatsuya Kando, shared that he is working (http://www.siliconera.com/2012/08/28/the-world-ends-with-you-director-says-hes-working-on-various-things-on-top-of-solo-remix/) on other projects related to the series as well."

New movement for The World Ends With You!?
khinsider.com/news/Dengeki-Interview-wit... (http://khinsider.com/news/Dengeki-Interview-with-Tetsuya-Nomura-Finally-Surfaces-3104)

---We’d like to ask about a slightly different title now. First, The World Ends With You (hereafter TWEWY) -Solo Remix- is available now. Why did you make it an iOS app?
Nomura: It was a decision made after many complicated reasons stacked up. I have heard generally favourable things from people who have played it, that is the most important thing.

---We think there must be many voices calling for a sequel to TWEWY.
Nomura: I personally love TWEWY too, it’s a title I do want to branch out. For the sake of future prospects, I hope that many people play and enjoy TWEWY -Solo Remix-.
