I need help please. I had Startopia on my Windows XP and it worked great for months. Then all of a sudden, it started freezing in the first couple of frames. I tried to unistall it and re-install it, but it quits at 45% installed and an error box pops up saying "cyclic redundancy error". I can't get it installed again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Establish visual contact with your startopia compact disc and verify the integrity of bot sides' surface. If everything seems to be in order then try to install it on another pc.

So I guess the cd is kapoot! I noticed 2 circular lines on the disc.
What can I do now? Buy another one I guess? I had to order this one off the internet as my local retailers no longer carry Startopia..this is a REAL Bummer!!!

You can get a replacement CD for about $10, I think.

This is from Eidos, and I believe you will have to ship them 10$, the broken CD, and a proof of purchase.

My first thought was a lack of hard drive space. Windows tends to need several hundred Mb free to run properly. Perhaps ask Microsoft what the error message means.

Nope. ^

A CRC error is the fault of a damaged disc. If it was like that when you got it, talk to the seller you got it from, he sold you a damaged disc. Otherwise go try to get a new disc from Eidos or buy one. Or you can try to find a friend with a disc doctor and see if that helps, but those only have about a 10% fix rate.

Do not quote me, I'm not a lawyer.

You can probably, legally, copy someone else's CD, or just install from their CD, and then use your original for the copy protection when you start the game. You own a licence to operate the software on one machine on a permenant basis. That's all you'll be doing. The software is just coming from an alternative source.

Could someone from MuckyFoot please confirm or deny this.
