It appears that JC is an NPC in the game, somehow. I really don't know how they can do this without choosing an ending for JC (and us), which is unfair to people who chose a different ending, since playing DX is all about choice. In spite of how I managed to guess a great deal, I'll point out that I *was* guessing -- and one of my guesses was that they'd arrange things to have an unguessable plot (if that convoluted sentence makes sense.) This is something I mentioned in part 3 of the speculation thread.
My *guess* - based on the story of the first Deus Ex, is a threefold meaning -- and the meaning you mention is one of them. My reason for agreeing with you is the comment at the end of the Illuminati ending about the "invisible hand" guiding the world. That would refer to the Illuminati in DX2.
The comment by Chad, though, sticks in my mind. A war of words is going on all around us (newscasters, governments, corporations, private organizations, etc. all with their propaganda and so on) and this war is evident if you look at it, but otherwise invisible to the eye. So, the title here would refer to those factions (rebels, governments, corporations) and their agendas.
Finally, and perhaps most obviously, is the interpretation mentioned to me by Bogeyman: a reference to nanotech - invisible, but powerful. So, here, the title would refer to the technological factions, as well as to the environmental mess (escaped transgenics, weird diseases, and so on) resulting after DX1.
So, no facts, just more guesses

OldGrrl
Member
Posts: 195
From:
Registered: Aug 2001

posted 05-23-2002 07:39 AM
i've only got a second. dashed in because i just heard. . .
JC as an NPC??? not as "my hero!!!""
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!
parden me. didn't mean to scream, but
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!

Alai
Member
Posts: 215
From:Seattle, WA USA
Registered: Aug 2001

posted 05-23-2002 07:48 AM
so are we playing as alex denton or not.

ICEBreaker
Member
Posts: 2930
From:Sydney, Australia
Registered: Nov 2001

posted 05-23-2002 08:30 AM
Yes Alex Denton. Deus Ex 2 still looked stunning, and of course it will almost certainly have the best gameplay out of any game that was on display there, but I still think Doom 3 was more impressive in the graphics department. It looked great, but we really have no way to know if what they were showing in the video was indicative of what the game will look like.

FierceClaw
Member
Posts: 84
From:Los Angeles, California, United States
Registered: Jan 2002

posted 05-31-2002 12:44 AM
I didn't get into the booth either, but they have stated that the demonstration was not a video, but rather an in-engine cinematic. A playable version was shown to several members of the press, descriptions of which you can find at some of the more popular online gaming sites.
As a side note, it was announced either today or yesterday (I'm not completely sure when it was) that the demonstration at E3 was only running with medium detail settings due to problems caused by some bugs that needed fixing. I can't even imagine how good Doom 3 will look with all the details cranked up all the way.

TechImmortal
Member
Posts: 804
From:Cabal of Technophiles mod group
Registered: Aug 2001

posted 05-31-2002 04:43 PM
Correct me if someone else has posted this link, but I don't think anyone has:
ION Storm E3 Impressions

ICEBreaker
Member
Posts: 2930
From:Sydney, Australia
Registered: Nov 2001

posted 05-31-2002 05:04 PM
Yeah I love these Witchboy diaries.
