I've been playing TR2 lately and I'm currently in the Tibetan Foothills.
I had a snowmobile mishap which sent Lara rolling and tumbling
ala falling off the Train to Alexandria.
Ain't never seen that happen before.
And I couldn't repeat it.

No. I had saved my game just before picking up the key
in the avalanche room. On my restarts I had no time to grab the key
because the thug on the armed snowmobile was bearing down on me.
I did a side jump once then a foward jump and a quick left turn to get
on the snowmobile. My plan was to out race the thug back to the chasm
jump, park, climb down and then back up on his side and pick him off from the ledge.
Which worked. Then a quick climb down and back up again to grab my snowmobile
and go back for the key. I returned to that save a bunch of time because
I was playing around with various snowmobile chase scenarios. On one of the
chases (starting at about 1/3 health) I banged around the walls a bunch (losing health)on the
way back to the chasm jump. She went flying off the snowmobile when I hit a bump
just before turning the last corner.

I had a weird death experience in TR4, Coastal Ruins.

I swan-dived off into a shallow water, then Lara when limp and and was a foating corpses. This was rare because usually she would just crack her neck. That death was similar to a death being shot to death in the water.

I did that too, because I found that trying to pick up the key and then run back to the ledge was too hard with that guy on the snowmobile. I had him chase me until the chasm tha the couldn't make it over *HAHAHAHAHA* loser.

This somewhat fits in, with the snowmobiles at least.

Isn't there someway to get the Red snowmobile to the end of the level? I thought I heard it mentioned once as an Expert Challenge.

I think there are some funky things you can do with the snowmobiles
in the Golden Mask (TRII Gold) levels.

Yes, there is. I remember reading a thread about the snowmobile at the other forum...
If you want to get it to the end of the level you mustn't take it when you find it. You just have to go all the way on foot and when you go back to the hat you find it there! (I haven't tried it though).
You can do many things with the snowmobile indeed...
