View Full Version : I think Hitman doesn't deserve so much hate

I've been watching Steam forums for two days, watching all the childish hate the game's been getting. Over and over and over. I finally realised that official forums might be a better place to actually get a clearer picture into other people's mind about this game.

I think that most of the hate is not justified. Now don't get me wrong - I understand that people don't dislike certain things the game - but dislike and hate are two different things. I think that if people would give this game a proper chance, rather than give in to the rage and "public opinion" they would find themselves on a mirror's edge.

I myself have been lucky to get the full game 3 days prior to release (not the beta; full version) and since that day, I've been enjoying this game a lot. I understand that people hate the episodic release, the always-online DRM (which I hate myself to be honest), the bugs, poor performance on most computers, not exactly the brightest AI,... But on the other hand, gameplay-wise, this is great Hitman. I love how the AI reacts to different stuff (lying weapon on the ground, escorting you if you're trespassing - not instantly shooting you) and I like how they changed all the looking-trough-disguise.

And while the game feels short, and it is, it should make fans of the series happy as long as you are willing to replay the mission in different ways. I have played this game for almost 30 hours, which is a lot, and I still don't have all the challenges (though I'm not far from it) and I'm still finding new little details in the Paris map. And I think that this is why it's worth the wait for the next episode and why it's worth to withstand bugs for the time being. Because it's fun, it has great replayability and it's very detailed. It's a shame that this is not something most people get and I think that this game doesn't deserves such blatant hate it's getting.

I had to get it out of my chest somewhere...

Yes it does actually.

Anti Consumer Tactics, Online Only Connection, Poor Performance, Tons of Bugs, and god knows what else wrong with this shambles of a launch. I'm applying for my refund right now through steam.

I definitely agree. The game is great, it's the best Hitman yet next to Blood Money. Obviously there are some issues like the loading times, the server issues but what game nowadays releases bug-free and without server issues (for online games that is). I don't like the always online component however, I think the game should be offline during gameplay, and connect to the server only when you finish a mission, but this is something that can be looked at. Besides all that the Paris mission is awesome and the level design is topnotch. I've spend hours completing the level and all the challenges and I'm still not done with it. Add to that the awesome contracts mode and the Escalation mode and Elusive targets to come, I'm sure I will be busy playing Hitman the rest of the year. -- Edit: I'm playing on PS4, I don't know about all the issues that are occuring on PC.. All I can say is wait until they release a patch that will fix most of the problems.. you know how it goes nowadays..

To be fair the game is really good. Which makes the absolutely bone-headed decision to require online connectivity for SINGLE PLAYER functionality all the more aggravating.

This is exactly the consumer mentality that EMPOWERS developers to release half finished products. You like most other gamers are CONDITIONED to accept this. You are SO conditioned that you actually publicly post it in DEFENCE of the publisher without even realising.

Take a step a back and think about it. The industry will not mature with this attitude.

Take the abhorrent mandatory online requirement for HITMAN - If you bought a new car and it only started some of the time, and when it did start you weren't sure when it would stop - would you consider that acceptable?

i happen to love the hitman games. but when i pre order the game for $60 and the game crashes EVERY single time i click the play button from the hitman menu, yes this focking game deserves some HATE! its 2016, one would expect a game to be released that works as advertised. another big corporation taking advantage of its customers. rot in hell

Don't get me wrong I think there is much that can be improved, but like this thread implies, I doesn't deserve this much hate. I hope everyone of you quits playing and shuts up about it.

I love the game itself.

The online requirement makes no sense though and its probably the main reason for the hate.

You should only need to be online for contracts mode.

Also contacts mode needs a lot of works. no search feature and the latest contracts screen is bugged and wont turn to next page.
It would also be nice if you could see how many times your created contracts have been played and if they are liked
