Are you a FINAL FANTASY Superfan?

eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/are-you-final... (http://eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/are-you-final-fantasy-superfan)

"Square Enix is embarking on a brand new quest to find the world's first FINAL FANTASY Superfan. Scouring every corner of the globe we're looking for a fan unlike any other, who goes beyond the call of fandom with an unequivocal commitment to all things FINAL FANTASY. What makes a FINAL FANTASY Superfan? Is it an encyclopaedic knowledge of FINAL FANTASY trivia? Maybe it's having an unmatched FINAL FANTASY collection? If you think you think you've got the unparalleled qualities that make a FINAL FANTASY Superfan and can shine high above the rest of your competition, then we want to hear from you.

From the 16th October 2012 until the 22nd October we'll be asking you send in your video submission exhibiting your enthusiasm for FINAL FANTASY. Simply create a video (no more than 60 seconds) to showcase your Superfan candidacy and submit it to www.ff25th-anniversary.com/superfan (http://www.ff25th-anniversary.com/superfan). If selected as one of the finalists you could be crowned FINAL FANTASY's first ever Superfan and win a 'Once in a Lifetime' prize.

But don't sit idly by twiddling those thumbs, time is ticking! Once we reach 300 video submissions the competition doors will be closing. A select panel of Square Enix judges will sift through the submissions on the search for members of the community who go above and beyond the call of being a fan.

But who better to choose the final winner that the community themselves. Once our panel of judges reduce the pool of contenders down to 25 finalists where you, the community, get to vote.

If you think you've got what it takes head to www.ff25th-anniversary.com/superfan (http://www.ff25th-anniversary.com/superfan) and submit your entry. For the latest up to date progress in our mission to find the world's first FINAL FANTASY Superfan follow @FF25TH_EN (https://twitter.com/FF25TH_EN) on twitter."

I find the '300' entries rule unfair.

There got to be way more 300 fans worlwide and the larger your collection, the more effeort and time it does tale to make a video.

On top of that some people got to work and the contest started in teh middle of the week.

Grimoire
19th Oct 2012, 14:02
Even so, the most "unfair" rule has to be that only fans from a select few countries are allowed to participate due to competition laws.

cloud_strife
19th Oct 2012, 21:16
Less than a week to make a submission and only 300 videos are allowed? That's pretty tough...

And what do they mean by " a creation" in " whether it's a collection, a creation or a commitment..."? Does that mean like fanart/fan animation? @_@

Randis
19th Oct 2012, 21:56
@ Grimoire

Yes, that is very sad and i totally understand the frustration, but i would not put the blame on SE, i am sure those who organized this event would havewanted for everyone to be able to participate. It is true that many countries have very different regulations and setting up a worldwide contest is no small job.

@ Cloudy Clone

I guess a creation could be a form of art (music, Paintings, Writing)

Grimoire
20th Oct 2012, 02:06
I would never blame anyone other than myself. ^_- This is what Bateman had to say:

"I agree that the restrictions of the competitions are undesirable and I did my best during the planning stage to address these, but unfortunately due to various technicalities there were some conditions that we couldn't change. In particular it's very difficult to run a competition that is truly worldwide because of the different laws we have to consider and adhere to. Hopefully we can open these opportunities up to more countries in the future."

And:

"We had planned to announce the competition earlier but had to delay it temporarily."

And yes, creations should be whatever creations you may think of, like art, cosplay, miniature figure projects, etc.

Good luck with your videos now.

Does anyone know if we are supposed to recieve some sort of confirmation after uploading a video? I uploaded my video but didn't

receive any confirmation and I'm not entirely sure if it went through or not. I tried it again and it was the same thing.

I would try again but I don't want to flood them with the same video over and over again if it actually is going through.

Grimoire

I believe you should see a message saying that you already have uploaded a video if you try to upload more than once (if everything went as it should the first time, that is).

I'm not in because I'm too busy right now. Also I don't know how to edit videos. And, even if I did win, I'm brazilian, so, no tickets for me :( Would love to go to Paris and meet Uematsu, though. Looking forward to see who will make to the finals.

I'm wondering, in the rules it says that videos need to be in by October 29th, so does that mean like at 11:59PM on the 29th? But if it meant before the 29th then obviously I'm screwed xD If it was the former is it limited to a certain timezone? 'Cause I'm in AK so I usually have to be really early for a lot of the online events that are at other times... Thanks~

Grimoire

Simply submit your video and try your luck. Unless they have already received 300 videos, you'll probably make it.

Akito
30th Oct 2012, 03:06
Thanks, I did.. But I'm a little puzzled, worried and confused, I uploaded my video (which took a while) and then I went to a screen where it told me "now give us a title and why...!" and after I filled those out.. It took me back to the upload screen. Oh jeez. Did it not go through? I read an earlier post that said "it won't let you upload another one" and I began to upload it again in my hastiness but if that's the case wouldn't it not let me upload another one? Whats going to happen!? Ahhh I don't want to upload it again..

Grimoire

"Yep, that's right – there's not much time left for you to make sure your voice is heard in our inaugural Final Fantasy Superfan competition (http://superfan.ff25th-anniversary.com/us/super-fans).

Voting officially closes tomorrow (Friday December 7) at midnight GMT – so a last push for popularity is what's needed. Make sure you're sharing the videos with friends and spreading the net as wide as possible to champion your own personal Final Fantasy hero or heroine.

Right now, Germany-based Randis is in the lead, but second-placed tifita from Spain is chasing... who will be top come tomorrow night? Only you can decide.

Remember – it's one vote per person (and we are checking, to ensure there's no cheating), so make it count. You can check out all the videos on the Superfan website (http://superfan.ff25th-anniversary.com/us/super-fans). Gogogo!"

"His Final Fantasy collection is one of the most impressive libraries of games, memorabilia and merchandise we've ever seen - and it's not limited to Square Enix either. It's clear from my conversation with Randis - the Final Fantasy Super Fan competition winner - that he's an incredibly humble guy. He was quick to point out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edsVkOMfc2c) that winning isn't about who has the most extensive collection - and he's right! His passion for Final Fantasy is what caught the eye of the judges and it's this passion that has driven him to pursue a career in games development and as a professional concept artist.

When we held a Lightning Returns press event in Paris it was only natural to invite him along and award him his prize - but that's only the half of it. Here's his story."

Interview with a Final Fantasy Super Fan (http://eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/interview-final-fantasy-super-fan)

"If you've followed our quest to find a Final Fantasy Super Fan you'll already be familiar with the winner, Randis. He recently guest-blogged (http://eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/voice-box-super-fun-super-fan) here on the Square Enix website to tell us about his incredible journey to Paris where Kitase-san and Toriyama-san presented him a one of a kind reward, a Final Fantasy Super Fan crystal.

Between being pampered by Square Enix employees and his interview with Famitsu, we dragged Randis away from the spotlight for a quick five-minute interview.

You're the first ever Final Fantasy Super Fan, how do you feel?!

I feel amazing! I’m really surprised, and yeah - it’s hard to describe; it's really cool!

We had a bit of a surprise for you that we didn’t tell you about; Toriyama-san and Kitase-san here to present you a gift. Can you tell us what it was and how you felt?

First, it was really a surprise; I was really speechless when I entered the room and the developers were here waiting. My present was a large crystal engraved with “Final Fantasy Super Fan” and a large Chocobo - it was really amazing.

So one of a kind?! I imagine that will look good in your collection?

Definitely, it will get a special spot!

One of the hardest elements of this competition – and we did it quite deliberately – was to give you only 60 seconds to explain why you should be the Final Fantasy Super Fan. How much of a challenge did you find this? What made you decide to make your submission the way you did?

Yeah, 60 seconds isn’t much for people who have huge collections, but for me it was important that I not only showed my collection but obviously also how Final Fantasy influenced my choice of career. My love for this game has come out through both my artwork and my collection.

You told us earlier that only a small portion of it was shown. How much do you think you’ve really got?

Well it’s not really a small portion. "What you seen in the video is roughly 60 per cent of what I actually own. But yeah, there’s still quite a lot more.

Out of all those items what’s your favourite? Is it even possible to pick even one?

Yes, now it’s the crystal! [laughs]

Good answer! Before today what items were you most fond of?

I really liked the Chocobo clock, the Final Fantasy snakes, Final Fantasy Coca-Cola bottle, McDonalds Final Fantasy toys... I like the kind of weird items.

It’s not just Final Fantasy items you collect either, what other gaming collections do you have?

I also collect the Saga series, Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana), Mystic Quest, Orge Battle and other games not made by Square Enix.

Yeah, we won’t mention those!

[laughs] Of course!

It’s an impressive collection. I think it shows how much you love gaming and how it’s done a lot for you. We’ve seen your artwork and I know Toriyama-san and Kitase-san were both very impressed by it. When did you start drawing and when did you begin to take it more seriously?

I think when I was 12 I started to draw a lot more and at 15 I had my first publication. Back then I started working for a small publisher and made designs for pen and paper RPGs. When I was 17 I had some exhibitions (I was doing more fine art at the time) and at 18-19 I started doing a lot of digital art. Finally when I hit 21 I got into the industry.

Well done, it's something you clearly enjoy doing. Do you have an ultimate goal of what you want to do, or are you happy to continue doing your art? Do you want to work for Square Enix maybe?

Yeah, obviously I always wanted to work for Square Enix! [laughs] I mean, who wouldn’t want to?! Basically I want to keep doing what I love, I want to develop games and do art, and this is the important thing for me to spend my life doing.

Just to finish off (and I know this is a very hard question especially when we’ve got 25 years of history to celebrate) - but can you pick out one game, or better yet, one moment in the history of Final Fantasy that sticks out in your memory?

That’s really tough, there’ are so many moments that stick in my mind, both in a positive way and also sometimes a little bit of a negative way, but my most favourite game is Final Fantasy VI and the moment that sticks most in my mind is when Final Fantasy VII came out. I noticed the concept art was no longer made by Amano Yo****aka and that made me so angry, but when I kept playing the game I obviously fell in love with it!

Thank you for spending time with us.

Thank you very much for having me!
