When I read the news about the releasing of FFVII for pc, I can't believed it.

I bought it today and downloaded the game.

All went fine, until I completed the setup and used the launcher.

I logged in with my Square Enix account and clicked "play", finally, I said.

The launcher screen went again on my desktop. I clicked again on "play".

Nothing happened. Again launcher screen.

So square-enix. You had my money, I want my game now. Can't play it. Anyone knows why it doesen't works?

I have a win 7 64 bit. Maybe is not available for this version?

Anyone fixed the problem? News about it?

Please let me know, because I bought a game and I want play it.

Anyone with Win 7 64 bit and same problem? Can't play. Everytime that I click on play it sends me at launcher screen, everytime. Should I change graphic settings or what?

everytime I hit Play (after log-in and connection) and it launches the game I get an error "an unknown exception has occured"
did I install it wrong? or does my PC somehow not meet the min requirements?

I have this exact same issue. FYI - Windows 7 PC. Also had the install crash a few times when installing.

NOT impressed so far. Already install 2 updates after installation and it's still bugging out.

If I click play then the screen goes black with just a mouse icon otherwise. If I tab away from this screen I find the error message that's popped up which reads "Unknown exception".

Have you redownloaded it and reinstalled after cleaning out the FF7 folder?

Huh, any chance for you to re-download it?

The Rig I am running is a monster overclocked machine and it seems just fine here. Windows 7 64-bit to boot.

Likewise, minus the overclocking. I would have thought their downloaded program would have been able to verify the download was good while it was downloading, but maybe not.

sawyerm

Can't get it to work either. Every time I try to run FF7_Launcher.exe, the program crashes with an illegal instruction error (c000001d). Win7 SP1, 64-bit.

I have yet to purchase it, and will probably wait until I read more positive things. Have you guys tried running as administator?

not yet solved the problem of the game?

sawyerm
14th Aug 2012, 21:52
I think the problem may be related to a security feature called Data Exection Protection (DEP) that can be enabled if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows. When I disable that setting, the launcher seems to load fine.

This is a fairly complicated procedure for the average user and also disables an important security feature, so it is an unacceptable solution to the problem.

I understand, I'm still downloading the game. I'm too scared, because what I'm seeing, spent money in vain. I'm from Brazil is that I will have problems because of the region?

Everything worked perfectly fine in the end, BUT UNTIL I ATTEMPTED TO CLICK ON "NEW GAME"... Nothing. What did I do wrong? I am using keyboard & mouse. I will buy X360 "WIRED" Controller later (For PC, of course). But for now, for time being... what can I do to make this playable (and clickable for that matter)? Thank you very much kindly!

The mouse doesn't work in the game.

Use the "X" key to select, and "C" to cancel.

I'm having the EXACT same issue on my work PC running Windows 7, 64-bit, but it works perfectly on my home PC which still uses Vista, 64-bit. I've put a ticket in to their customer service.

marslava
15th Aug 2012, 09:19
apparently this IS in fact due to not meeting the system requirements.

which means if I'm reading the RAM requirement right no computer still running Windows XP will be able to play.

After not be able to log in all night due to the fact that my account wasn't recognized. Today it finally worked, however now I cannot tick any concent boxes. After logging in it asks you your birthdate, country and desired username. Then it has 2 boxes to tick for terms of service and what not. But I cannot tick either of them and continue on. This is the most fustrating process for a game Ive ever had to go through.

sawyerm
15th Aug 2012, 09:48
This is likely a conflict with a security feature called Data Execution Prevention (DEP) that is built into Windows 7. I've been able to get FFVII to run by disabling that feature, but this is NOT a good fix because the feature is an important way for Windows to block malware and viruses.

For your reference, you can disable the feature by following the steps here: windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vist... (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-Data-Execution-Prevention-settings)

In the last step, change the drop down box to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only."

Square needs to release a patch to make the program compliant with the feature because it is unacceptable to have to do this.

Even using tab to highlight each box does nothing. No key will actually tick the box.

My game works fine on my Laptop. When I try to play it on my desktop, after opening the Square-Enix launch application (Play, Achievements, Setteings, Credits etc) the game will open a window on 'Play' and then instantly exit, returning to the launch application.

Running Windows 7 64 bit, tried running as admin, doesnt work. 2.8 GHz, 3GB ram, integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 video card with up to date drivers.

any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem. It was playing fine on my old computer, but when I upgraded today, it decided to stop.

Maybe it has to do with being downloaded on multiple computers?

I had this issue, but it was when I was using a hud to show me my gpu info from the EVGA precision software. I disabeled this and it ran just fine. If you all are using anything that acts like this, or xfire, or any of those type of things shut them off.

I have the same issue. Ran it fine this morning then I had to go out real quick so I ALT+F4 during the opening cinematic and shut down my PC. Now any time I go to hit play it says FF7_EN.exe has stopped working etc. Any fixes?

Same problem. I got it to work fine after installing, but all the save files were greyed out and gave "No save game data." I quit, went back in and now I'm getting unknown exceptions. If anyone has any ideas for either problem, I'd love to hear them.

Edit: Just needed a restart. Didn't touch the DEP settings. Now it's loading fine and saving. I guess the save problem was that it wasn't syncing. Still, I'm dubious that this will last.

Loztprophet
16th Aug 2012, 17:00
Okay I got this fixed, here's what I did:

Change DEP settings (use above tutorial)

Uninstalled FF7, redownloaded and installed on a different disk. At this point it still wasn't working.

Restart PC <--- IMPORTANT

Works now.

Just problem after problem with this game it seems. Was actually playing it fine this morning (after finally figuring out how to start the damn game, by forcing me to log in through my facebook account), now I'm getting this problem. Press Play, launcher closes, nothing happens and eventually the launcher just comes back up.

Fix the problems Square Enix, this is pathetic. There is no reason for this game to require an internet connection past activating/unlocking it, much less have to rely on servers to actually play period.

Yep, same issue, this is getting frustrating, so many DRM hoops and hurdles and then nothing....

Hey guys, solved the issue on my side...

Anyway, for whatever reason I don't think our credentials are synced up throughout all their account databases, thusly, when we try to sign in to the different Square Enix accounts, it doesn't recognize that the game we purchased is under our main Square Enix Account (Square Enix NA, Square Enix, Facebook...etc).

I had to uninstall the game and re-install it so I could put in my credentials again. When it prompts you to log in, there is a link on the top right corner of the launcher that says "Not registered yet? Sign up here." Click that, I had to register for a new account with the same e-mail address that I purchased FF7 under (It seems to be tied to the DRM). Go through the account confirmation and when you log in to the website you should see FF7 as a purchased game. Log in with the e-mail address and password you just created in the launcher and the game should launch.

This is kinda stupid because I have 3 seperate Square Enix accounts now just to figure out this stupid problem.

Hope this helps.

Using Erk's post, I applied for a refund. (trying to use support is ridiculously confusing)

If you are unhappy with FF7, you can demand a refund there.

They will point you over to digital river's website.
www.findmyorder.com

-Fill out your Order ID and password to request a return.
-Make sure to respond to the confirmation email within 7 days or you will not get a refund.

I hope to play FFVII when I eventually get a new computer.

Well here's what I'm sure of:

There is a Square NA account, a Square account, and a Square Support Account, they're all seperate. What worked for me was making the regular Square Enix Account (which is weird because I'm sure I purchased it through my Square NA account).

Ok so... here goes...

step 1: go to na.square-enix.com/145981219/game/regist... (http://na.square-enix.com/145981219/game/registration) where it says to go in the bottom of your email...

step 2: click the red "Log In" button at the top left

step 3: Log in

step 4: Click your username (in red to the top left)

step 5: on the right side of the page (about center screen on the right if you dont scroll), you'll see a "game registration" link. Click it.

Re-installing the game fixed that issue.

Now it won't sync my saved games properly and only presents me with the option for a new game.

These cloud saves are working as well as Cloud saving Aerith. http://na.square-enix.com/tools/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-cry.gif

Triple post here, but I have been trying my best to deal with all the issues with this re-release -- but between the saving issues, numerous ways the game crashes, and weird issues with the game client just not working right I give up. Not even going to try playing this until they release an update or something.

After this and the FFXIV launch flop, I have lost faith in SE to be able to put out quality products. I am surprised there is no real feedback/reactions from SE about all of the issues people are facing around this release, but I guess a 10$ product isn't something they really care about supporting.

After I spent 2 weeks resolving an issue that finally allowed me to enter the serial to play the game, I am faced with a new problem.

When I press the "play" button for ff7 pc, an error message pops up on a temporary black screen:

"Failed to create a useful Direct3d device"

And that's it. I am simply given a brief error message with no way to play the game.

Any suggestions on resolving this?

I played the game just fine for a few days. Today when I try to launch the game it crashes. On the first day I spent about 3 or 4 hours trying to suss out the account registration/confirmation issues. On the second day I couldn't save my game and had to redo about an hour worth of gaming. Now today when I hit play the game crashes though the processes are still running. I end those processes and try again. Same crash.

Out of utter frustration I tried something different to see if it would effect the process. Before I hit play I hit "view online profile" and then hit play. The game launched fine.

I backed out of the game and tried to hit play without hitting "view online profile" and the game crashed again.

So i tried hitting "view online profile" first again and while it was loading in my browser I hit "play" and the game launched again.

It still crashes if I just hit play but I thought i'd post this in case anybody else needs a temporary work around for this problem.

My laptop has comparable specs and should have absolutely no problem running this game. It seems that it only crashes when entering a new area. I entered a building in Kalm and it froze. Restarted the game, and I was able to go in all the buildings. Went in one I had already been in, and it crashed again. Neither restarting the computer or running the game in administration mode helps. I'm worried about getting into a lengthy part of the game and having to redo it.

I bought it today and downloaded the game.

All went fine, until I completed the setup and used the launcher.

Can you please try temprorarily disabling all non OS essential processes on your system temporarily for troubleshooting purposes. Please press the Windows Key and "R", then in the dialog box type msconfig and press ok. Select the startup tab and choose Disable All. Once this is completed select apply and then restart your system. After which we would like you to try playing the game again to see if the issue persists. We apologize for the issues you are experiencing cesalazar, however unfortunately we do not support your current Hardware/software setup. The game was developed for PC's designed to run Windows. As you are using a utility such as parallels which enables you to run Windows on an intel-based Mac you may be able to get the game running. However, if you are experiencing any issues, graphical or otherwise we can not offer any troubleshooting/technical support. We encourage you to research online for other users with a similar configuration who may have encountered this issue and managed to resolve the issue.

Thanks!

Can we please get a better idea of your system specifications? There are a couple of things which could prevent you from running the game properly: another program interfering with this game starting or having rights, the DirectX or graphics drivers not being up to date, or that the game may be installed improperly (on another partition/drive, not as the administrator, failed installation etc.). We'd like you to go ahead and provide us with your basic system characteristics, CPU, OS, RAM, video card, and internet connection, so we can continue to assist you.

Thanks for making the post Probes and welcome to the forum. As mentioned in this older thread there are a few things you will want to make sure of when running the game. Please check that you have the latest version of DirectX from the Microsoft site. You will also want to ensure that you are running the game's .exe as an administrator. Lastly you'll need to check that there aren't any programs prohibiting the game from running like an anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall etc. You can even be sure nothing is running in the background by executing the MSCONFIG tool from the run menu and doing a selective startup. By taking these troubleshooting steps the program should not encounter any errors with Windows and run for you properly.

Da, Can you please make sure you are using the Square Enix North America option when you are logging in to ensure that we're all on the same page here. Past that I'm glad you tried to run the game in compatibility mode as it was not released for a Windows 8 environment. Next I would like you to try running the MSCONFIG tool to disable any startup programs which may be preventing the game from running the way it'x expecting to. Lastly, can you double check you Windows update and Metro app update to make sure you've got the latest device and system updates?

Charles, you can locate you system specifications by right clicking on "My Computer" and choosing properties, under this list you can click device manager and then view the video card under Display Adapters. Once you locate your card as an Nvidia, AMD, or Intel device and make a note of the model number you can navigate to that company's website and get the latest driver.

I'm sorry to say I have the same problem. I bought the game two days ago. At first, it worked fine right after I installed it, but today I'm out of luck. When I click Play in the launcher, the launcher briefly disappears, then nothing happens and the launcher re-appears again. :(

I'm running Windows 7 64 (Home Premium). Do I sense a 64-related pattern here?

I'm having the same issue as endolex. Just purchased the game today and hasn't worked yet. The launcher is behaving the exact same way as endolex described and I am also running on Windows 7 64-bit Home premium.

Hello,

I purchased Final Fantasy 7 on August 28th. I downloaded the game, but never played it. Today, I opened the launcher to play the game, and clicked the "Play" button. However, the game does not launch; instead, the launcher simply closes and reopens.

Please help.

Are you perhaps trying to run the game under Windows 8?

I fixed it... had to install the latest DirectX. Of course, I had no way to know this from directly within the program...

I just recently bought, downloaded and installed the game without any issues but when I start the launcher and I click play, the launcher simply restarts itself and doesn't go into the actual game. I'm on a fresh install of Windows 7 and Ive tried all compatabilty modes, but the same thing still happens.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

mupmuck-682438

So since the launcher wasn't working, I thought I'd try running the executable directly from my Program Files.
I got an error stating d3dx9_29.dll was missing, Googled the file and found it was related to DirectX.
Downloaded and ran the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer and voila, clicking "Play" now works!

Hopefully my fix will help others as well, happy gaming. :D

I'm having this issue (just started having this problem in the last 12 hours) where it says FF7_EN.exe has stopped working.

I tried doing what you did and run the executable directly but my PC just says it crashes. I Google'd Direct X End-User Runtime Web installer but it says my DirectX is newer or equivalent version so it won't run.

mupmuck-682438

That sucks man because it's definately a DirectX issue that is casuing the game not to run.

Today I was playing FFVII normally until you turn off the PC and left my house. Returning surprise I found that I can not start the game, to give the button click play this just does nothing. It's frustrating having to put so many mistakes and failures of a product that was released in 1997.

If anyone knows how to solve this problem would be great to help me.

Purchased Final Fantasy VII for PC and ran it about 3 times. Shut it down on Sunday, left computer on overnight and it would not run on Monday. When i start the game from the launcher, the game starts, maximizes to full screen then exits and I am back to the launcher.

PC is Core i5, 5770 graphics card running Direct X 11 on Windows 7 64 bit.

I did not update driver files or windows overnight - appears something changed with the FFVII runtime not with my computer.
Driver files are up to date as is Direct X.
Tried closing background programs, restarting computer, logging in and out of FFVII program but has made no difference.
Network connectivity (by windows and FF launcher) has been good.

What are other actions I can take?
Failing these, how do i request a refund?

Must be a problem with DirectX, update it and then try to open the executable FFVII.

SE-Chris
25th Jan 2013, 19:35
The first thing we'd recommend is a full update of the drivers on the sytem. Updating DirectX, Windows Update and the graphics card drivers could kick this off. Secondly, since you're using Windows 8 can you try two other things: 1) Right click on the .exe and select properties. Under the compatibility mode options, it to run as Windows 7 SP1. 2) Navigate to Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Driver tab. Under this tab can you try changing the driver to the default driver or perhaps an alternate one than the one you're using at the moment. Boot up the game again and we'll see if there's any changes. Thanks!

I am getting this same Play loop on the patcher issue. This is new, I have already been playing the game.

If I try to run ff7_en.exe directly, I receive an Application Error: The application was unable to start correctly (oxc0000005). Click OK to close the application.

I did recently install Visual Studio and .NET, but that shouldn't mess with this, should it?

SE-Chris
28th Jan 2013, 19:24
The big three things we can do to troubleshoot this issue are as follows:

Update your graphics card drivers by visiting the card manufacturer's website, downloading and installing the newest version. Check outwww.amd.com (http://www.amd.com/) or www.nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com/) for these files
Get the latest version of DirectX from the Microsoft Web Installer
Do all the Windows Updates you can find via the Windows Update tool on your system

Now if that's still not doing it for you, please make sure that the game is installed to the C: drive or at least the same drive that Windows is installed on. For you Windows 8 people, can you also try right-clicking in the .exe and running the game in Windows 7 SP1 compatibility mode to see if that makes any difference. Lastly, we've had another suggestion from a customer in an adjacent thread to install DIVX9, see here: na.square-enix.com/go/thread/view/139347... (http://na.square-enix.com/go/thread/view/139347/29622819/Another_case_of_game_not_being_able_to_load)

I hope this doesn't come about ignorant or foolish on my end but, have you tried right clicking and running as administrator? I actually had a friend that had that issue. The updater would not patch up until they ran as administrator. If this is the solution (and I would like you to tell me how it goes if you don't mind), I would go into UAC and turn UAC off. To get to that just hit your start button (to get into the metro start) and just type UAC. On the right click "settings" and then click Change User Account Control settings". Then just yank the scroll all the way down. It will tell you to restart your computer. I hope this all helps and good luck Quistis-Trepe! Please let me know how it goes. I will try to keep checking this forum.

Quistis-trepe
1st Feb 2013, 00:41
I tried your solution still no joy, the updater does not run & after pressing continue & then play, I get the Squaresoft logo with the chocobos, it goes to a black screen afterwards. UAC was already on minimum. I noticed though that while downloading, download stopped at 63% & I had to restart again to complete the download. I tried again and it did the same thing. Could this be the problem? If yes, where can I get a full download.

Okay so I just finished testing what you have told me. (Hmmm.... where do I get all of this free time....). Anyway, I built up one of my older computers and popped Windows 8 Prof x64 on that bad boy. I redownloaded the game using the email I recieved from Square. Now I do need to say,

SQUARE ENIX IF YOU ARE READING THIS, FIX THAT NOW! IT IS A PAIN TO DOWNLOAD. HOLY MESS!

Continuing on now that I got that off my, and some other peoples, chest; I downloaded the game from them as previously stated and wouldn't you have it, IT DIDN'T FINISH THE DOWNLOAD (This happened on my main machine might I add)! So you do need to find a different download for this legally online. I don't want to recommend torrenting as a method but, I will say it worked... Please be very cautious if you take this method (I am not responsible for anything you do to your computer or what you download) but it should be your fix. If you did this legally (DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY OF THEM WITH THE WORD "CRACK" INVOLVED FOR THIS IS COMPLETELY ILLEGAL!!!!!), you will have to re-insert your serial key that came with the game's email.

Summary:

I tested your comment. You need to reinstall from a different source (I will try to locate a better source, trying to be timely for you). Install and you should be good to go. Please let me know how this works out for you if you try or do not try anything so I might try different methods for you. Good Luck bud!

We've had a few people with connection/download issues report success with resetting their modem. As the servers are up and working we want to see if we can get everyone's connection working as expected. Temporarily disabling any firewalls, adblockers, etc. can often clear things like this up. Secondly for those of you not getting the game to load after getting the install complete, please make sure that A) you have updated all of your drivers and Windows Updates B) are logging into the [Square Enix North America] area and C) you can try going into the device manager, navigating to the display adapter and changing the video driver to another driver which may be available.

Each time the play screen pops up, I push play, screen goes away and pops up, I push play, goes away pops up, push play, goes away pops up, push play, goes away pops up, ect. ect. ect.

Installed Direct X and amddriverdownloader (file:///C:/Users/Perry%20R.%20Widdison/Downloads/amddriverdownloader.exe) (which when ran says unable to find system product or OS. WTF I noob what they want from me? Can i play FF7 yet please?) , ran as administartor with the same result. I am using a laptop but have I have a dual screen I am going to try when I get home that I am hoping will help or something.
(How awesome would it be to play FF7 on a nice long drive so I can spend 8 hours pwning).

Am I missing something? Seems like the game wants to run, but just keeps reseting to the play/Achievement/Settings/View online profile screen. I have an account and am logged in. Will the nice HD dual screen help me?

Tried reading everywhere and tried what I think I could do before posting. Please help?

We are sorry that you are encountering issues when connecting to Final Fantasy VII.

This error message means the download did not go through properly. Can you please check the following?

- Have you tried disabling your antivirus and firewall before downloading the game?
- Please ensure your internet connection is stable
- Please ensure there are not other programs running in the background that would interfere with your internet connection or with the download.

We would also like you to log out of the game first. In order to log out of the Square Enix account you will need to navigate to the Network area of the Settings menu. Once logged out please click on the Square Enix North America login area. You should be able to log in with the same account information that you are able to log into this site website with.

Same problem here. Hit Play in the launcher, it flashes and then nothing happens. I bought the game at launch and played it fine on Windows 7. This is my first attempt to play it on Windows 8. I see though, from the comments, that this problem is present for users any version of Windows.

Windows 8 64-Bit

NVidia GeForce GTX 550ti

6 GB RAM

Have tried:

- Windows Update and video drivers, all up to date

- Running Direct X Web installer

- Reinstalling Direct X 9, 10, 11 from this link www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details... (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9033)

- Running as Administrator

- Running directly from the ff7_en, got an error about a missing DLL. Downloaded that DLL and two more error messages came up. With all three DLL's downloaded I tried to run it again and it told me to run from the launcher. I did that and it went to a black screen then locked up my PC. Tried this twice and both times it locked up my PC requiring a restart from the Ctrl-Alt-Delete menu. Task Manager was unavailable.

Can't figure out how to set compatibility mode. The only tabs I have for FF7_Launcher and FF7_en are General, Digital Signatures, Security and Details

Any other ideas, this is just ridiculous.

Got it working, had to uninstall and reinstall the game. Probably wasted an activation doing it too.

Same as Michael. I don't get anything, not even an error. I just shows the little blue circle icon that shows it's loading for a couple seconds then stops... It's frustrating. I also have tried just about everything. Windows 8 64 bit

when you install, you need to install 4 updates for windows, if they fail, update them yourself instead of throught the FF7 installer. otherwise the game launcher might not work and then the gmae crashes... helped?

hope so, it's pretty wild to be able to read and see things that were otherwise fuzy

Did this solution work. I am getting the same error message when I installed FF7. I tried the YouTube video, but that didn't do anything for me. I also made sure to do all of my windows updates, but that didn't seem to resolve anything. Are there specific updates I should be making sure are installed to avoid this error message? Thanks.

I just purchased FF7 for the PC from the na.squareenix website, however this does not work.
I go to press play and the window blinks and nothing happens.

Id like to know if there is a solution to my problem.

If there is not I want my money back ASAP.

Thank you,
