According to the Final Fantasy XIII steam store page, the game has full audio support for the Japanese language, which has me wanting to ask this question: Will i be able to play the game on PC with an English UI and Japanese audio?

The following languages are available for this title (http://store.steampowered.com/app/292120/):
Audio: English
Text: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish

...Is what the information says, however full audio support is indeed listed among the full list of supported languages. Perhaps you should contact Steam and ask them directly?

there are 8 languages in total. japanese korean and traditional chinese are down the list if you click the text below. I don't know if japanese audio is supported to non Asian countries.

Alright, so situation is like this: there's two versions of the game - Asian and ROW (rest of world). It has been stated that the supported languages on the steam page can only be set locally and therefore include languages from both of those versions. However, the ROW version only gets english audio and the asian one only gets Japanese (original) audio.

So a steadily growing thread on Steam appeared to demand that the original audio be included in the ROW version http://steamcommunity.com/app/292120/discussions/0/613936673353900563/

Pretty much majority of the posts there are unique votes for having the option to choose which audio you want to play the game with. This also includes people that would get stuck with the asian version, but want the english audio.

Some speculate that the reason the versions are region locked and only allow one audio is due to licensing issues. If that is indeed the case, an official statement on the matter would be highly appreciated and the company should also note that people are willing to pay for more audio options as a DLC. However, so far, we know not why the game is region locked and if it really is not a licensing issue, there is no reason to not include those audio options. Even if you don't want to remake the game to support in-game changing, it should still be infinitely easy to just have a language option in the properties tab on steam which will let you select if you want to download either the ROW or Asian version of the game.

Please do the sensible thing and give people the option to choose whichever audio they prefer.

I am not buying the game if Japanese audio is not included. I lived in Japan for ten years. I speak the language, I love the culture. I play Japanese games because I want that intercultural experience. I don't want English voices. And besides, Japanese editions of the game have already had English subtitles and text! It makes no sense that the rest of the world bar Japan and Asia is getting English, whether it is the spoken language there or not. So, what is a non-native English speaker in Europe (or North America and Australia, etc. for that matter!) going to do with an English voiced game? He or she may as well have the Japanese audio. Millions of gamers play games in English every day although they don't speak that language.

And note that other countries in Asia will be getting Japanese audio, and they don't speak Japanese. Many of them would understand English better! Thus there is clearly no valid argument that the missing audio is in order to localise the game around the world. The only rationale for excluding the Japanese audio from the ROW release is that Square Enix still have that very old, monocultural, monolingual view of the world, and I have come against it at other times with this company! The game SHOULD release with its original voice track, and that's all there is to it. We don't have to fight for the same in film, so why for games? The option should be there, and from what I can see, it's already done.

You guys realize square would have to go to court to get the japanese dub release for everyone right? they aren't going to do that, just wait for the mods.

Unfortunate yeah, but at least Lightning Returns FF XIII has Dual Audio support, and futures Final Fantasy games as well, like: Type 0 HD & XV, will probably feature Dual Audio.

Indeed.
FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD TO FEATURE DUAL AUDIO (http://na.square-enix.com/us/blog/final-fantasy-type-0-hd-feature-dual-audio-new-screens-released-japan), NEW SCREENS RELEASED IN JAPAN
- If you were hoping you could play the game with the original Japanese audio, we're happy to announce that you'll be able to do just that!

Still I would love to hear some official statement as to why it is region locked. I pre-ordered the game but the fact that I can only play with english v/o is still huge dissapointment despite being happy about PC release. And while next parts might have dual audio support, it is never pleasant experience when characters change voices between games.

techincally there are 2 round about way to do this. 1st is to fake the ip in steam to asia to buy and play it but the risk of banned steam account is heavy. 2nd is to mod the game but to do this I need the original file in the game to mod or in simpler term replacing the file with the voicing file and animation (for the lip sync) but that bring me to the 1st issue, obtaining the asian game. technically i'm an asian but my credit card is UK and studying in UK so i can't purchased the asian version guess i will buy if someone mod the voice over other wise i will stick with my ps3 since it basically the same version. i will buy the lightning return since it have voice dlc though and my pc will run way faster than a ps3.

Can someone who already downloaded the game confirm this? It will take almost whole day for my crappy internet speed to handle downloading this game.
