We're all aware of how awesome the music in LiS is! I'd just like to know what y'all think of it, what your favorite tracks are, and what tunes you think they should include in future episodes. I personally thought the Amanda Palmer song was my fav song choice so far, although I love practically all the music in this game. As for songs I'd like to hear, here's a short list of tunes I think would fit well with my favorite episodic game ever:

The Spring Standards - Only Skin
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UoLEvg9QrGg

The Milk Carton Kids - Michigan
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WEDnGAvjQXw

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DPL_SV3n7IU

Anyway those are just my ideas... Please share yours! What do you think of the music so far, and what songs would you include if you were in control of that type of thing? Lemme know! :)

I agree, the Amanda Palmer is pretty awesome. It's also my favorite song so far, although I also like the Angus & Julia Stone song from the fist episode.

I really like the acoustics of all these songs.
But this game has changed so much since the first episode. It's not as bright and cheery as these songs anymore.
Only dark songs come to my mind now, when I think of this game's current state:

Laura - Patterns Not People

"What's this phase shift.. symmetry break?
The new kids can't see the front of the stage."

"Can't see, can't speak, for those who can.
What's in this house, under the bed?
What's in this stream, shallow and quick?
A heart beats a billion times and then stops."

Or these two instrumentals:

Laura - Another Near Miss
Laura - Studio Out Take One [You can't find this one on Youtube. It's a hidden song on Spotify]

I enjoyed the music in episode 4 more than the previous episodes. I'm not very keen on the Jose Gonzalez type tracks that seemed to dominate the first few episodes, although they fit the mood perfectly. Loved the Amanda Palmer track suddenly appearing. I also liked whatever they were playing at the Vortex Club. It actually looked like quite a cool party, although not very health & safety aware!

Jose Gonzalez's song Crosses was foreshadowing the bullying Kate was going through.
All songs have meanings.

I was not much in to accoustic guitar stuff until I started playing The Last of Us. Its simplicity and tones just added so much emotion and ambience. Life Is Strange is using a similar approach and Im loving it so much. Will buy the soundtrack if it comes out.

I agree about The Last of Us's soundtrack - it's amazing. I can listen to it on loop for hours without getting tired of it.

I like the more mellow songs from the earlier episodes, so I wouldn't mind hearing more of that sort of thing, but I agree that the story's gotten dark enough that they don't really fit the tone any longer. After playing the first two episodes of LiS, I started listening to the Life Is Strange playlist on Spotify.

Nerd Alert.

LIS inspired me to listen to music again. Honestly I hadn't really purposely listened to music in a long time. I ended up buying a mp3 type player so I could do things outside with the music from LIS. Max Caulfied inspired me to buy an mp3 player...LMFAO.

I wouldn't even want to pick any music for this game because everything THEY have picked so far I liked.

I was absolutely expecting that Amanda Palmer song to be the outro to the final episode or something.....was surprised to see it used kinda lightly when it actually did play.

Some of the songs from these "unknown" bands might suit the game's current atmosphere too:
.
Northaunt - With The Stars As Witness [In big danger or a scary situation]
Ulver - Lyckantropen Themes [Surreal like ambients]
Ulver - The Moon Piece [Composition build up to make something sound bad/evil]
Dorena - My Childhood Friend [If Chloe's somehow resurrected]
September Malevolence - Who Watches The Watchmen

The Microphones - Headless Horseman (since the devs said that the songs fit lyrically-wise too for the most part, I'd think of this song to be played when it comes to David. Maybe. I don't know. It just sounds good.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un7uBqt1WHA

Eric's Trip - Sand (also again The Microphones because he did a good cover of that song)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jXmMwJ1Ngo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u6CI_jYBmo

Beirut - The Peacock
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EECTZ1Ikzk4

Sigur Rós - Ísjaki (oh god that track.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWOTKr5W_pQ

Gregor Samsa - The Adolescent
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_i2UmRY5pA

Some songs fit lyrically-wise, don't know about others. lol
A lot of post-rock involved here, but oh wonder! This game is filled with post-rock.
Also I've been writing some little acoustic songs more since LiS myself. Haha

It's tough to make music blend in well with the scene. Depends on what's on the screen.
But yeah, songs without lyrics are easier to choose from in that matter. I guess Dontnod will come up with
an original score like the beginning of ep4. We'll see. :)

Many of the songs, when I first heard them, i was not in to. But listening to them more and relating them to the game in my mind has changed that and i like it. Even the dark ambient moody stuff. The one song i can't stand is 'naughty' that Dana plays. It is cheese melted in cheese with more teen-pop cheese added to it.

I love all the songs in the game! If there is a happy ending it would be amazing to here the song "Chloe" from Grouplove :D

Great topic!

This game is really "americanized," and I kind of like the songs. But some are better than others.

The "Menu (Main?) Theme" is pretty great. The first song Maxine listen to in the beginning of the game is good too. The one they play in the ending of the episodes too. Anyone know what songs are these?

Thanks :D

Oh, that's the song. Good. "To All Of You."

And "Obstacles" is interesting too. Goes well with EP1, really.

This game is the best one I ever played that talked about bullies. Was touching and distinctively true.

Is it bad that I'm obsessed with that song to the point that I know the lyrics word from word?

I haven't heard that one quiet as much, but I agree.

Are you from the US? This music is like a hymn to the USA girls. Like the "american dream" concept. From the outside, I know the feeling :P I believe the creators aren't americans too, isn't it?

I'm american, but the creators (I assume you mean Dontnod) are French. I believe the musician is as well.

How much of the lyrics are true to you? I think I never met an american girl personally.

For me the most beautiful girls of this game are, first, Kate, following by Max and Chase (she could let her long hair).

The lip-sync isn't good, indeed. But anyway, that's an interesting game.

Just like that Catherine. Anyone played? That's a really good game.

So, these are some of the musics I would put in the game (I'm listening to Jens Lekman right now, so I'll put only tracks by him):

Jens Lekman - "Sipping on the Sweet Nectar"
(This one to remember the good times of Max and Chloe, maybe! :D )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QjGJcYWOKA

Jens Lekman - "The End of the World Is Bigger Than Love"
(This one when Max will be faced by the dilema: Chloe or the world? Will the end of the world be bigger than love? :P )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8_b23Wla-I

And this girl paraphrasing a song by him. Isn't she beautiful? :D (This is the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5rmXQRaKTk)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5RIE-IUt7o

And this one for the tornado rampage! :O

I have not listened to music with headphones out in public since the mid 90s and tonight while shopping for groceries I put my earphones in, turned on the LiS soundtrack and tuned out of the real world noise for an hour. It was such a good thing. Huge kudos to the Dontnod team.

It is really helping me to escape from the stress and noise and just mellow out.

Yup it is. Anyway, wanted to thank Errol for mentioning The Milk Carton Kids - Michigan.
I really like the song. It's chord progression is nice. :)

Now after EP5 i have to complain a bit about one chosen song, the song in the "save Arcadia Bay" ending. (and it's not because i don't like that band anyway).
When i had to relive Chloe's death and her funeral, a song like this was the last thing i needed.
I was crying like Max about our loss.
The song just didn't fit in. Like, at all.
It was loud, that overtuned snare drum and hi-hats made me itch, and i couldn't stand the vocals. Completely inappropirate for these moments in my opinion.
ANY Mogwai song would have fit better - only few musicians are capable of creating such raw emotion with their music only and no vocals. Even if you had reused their "Kids Will Be Skeletons" it'd been perfect, because this song is already attached to Chloe's and Arcadia Bay's fate and builds a wonderful mix of happy and sad. "Friend of the Night (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZKVNJqpBPQ)" maybe would have been a great choice too.

On the plus side: one choice i was excited about how it was used was Mud Flow's "The Sense Of Me" because i haven't ever heard of this band before - and it was perfect. Like Mogwai (i have heard of this band long before) in the end of EP3. I can hardly think of better choices for those scenes.

(Could anyone please move this thread to the general discussion which might be more appropirate? Thanks!)
