Big Announcement For DEUS EX movie coming soon (http://www.videogamefilms.com/big-announcement-for-deus-ex-movie-coming-soon/)

According to Adrian Askarieh, one of the producers spearheading development on the live-action Deus Ex film, the movie is no longer happening at CBS Films. Making the futuristic, human augmentation feature requires a budget that may be to expensive for a film studio that has never spent over $30 million dollars to produce a film.

Rupert Friend was on IGN's SDCC stream feed thing about Hitman. They asked him about playing an iconic character and the games. He was like "I was surprised they weren't all shoot'em'up and like really tactical etc etc"

Basically what's "wrong" with videogame adaptations and Hollywood in general. Hero ****, romantic subplots etc. I'm preeetty sure I'm going to enjoy it tho.

The "Hitman: Agent 47" trailer was entertaining to watch. Brick + Mortar's version of Jimi's "Voodoo Child" suits it well.

Summertime is nearly over, so I hope this means the announcement isn't too far off.
It might be worth keeping our augmented eyes on Adrian Askarieh's Twitter (https://twitter.com/adrianaskarieh) account. :naughty:

In the meantime.... I wonder which actor will take on the starring role.
Just for fun, any suggestions and images to share?

Let me first say that I don't know if I would want to watch the movie, because I'm worried they'll mess it up.

Michael Fassbender

I could see Keanu, but not because of the Matrix connection. John Wick was a truly great low-key action flick, and his dedication to the failed attempt at making Cowboy Bebop makes me think he'd be very good at this, if properly directed.

It's mostly the writing I'm worried about. The lore is weak and unidimensional to begin with, and I'm worried it would end like that Robocop reboot, focusing on what it means to be human, and all that high school philosophy nonsense.

Hitman: Agent 47’ producer on plight of video game movies (http://zap2it.com/2015/08/hitman-agent-47-producer-adrian-askarieh-interview-video-game-movies-deus-ex-thief/)

Hollywood still hasn’t had its big blockbuster video game adaptation hit, and “Hitman: Agent 47” producer Adrian Askarieh thinks he knows why: “They just haven’t been good movies.”

Askarieh produced 2007’s “Hitman” movie starring Timothy Olyphant, as well as a new take on the franchise, “Hitman: Agent 47” starring Rupert Friend, which hits theaters on Friday, Aug. 21. He is also currently in the works on a handful of other adaptations of big name video game franchises, including “Deus Ex,” “Kane & Lynch” and “Thief.”

Sorta like how Hitman: Agent 47 isn't a good movie? What a riot that guy is.

Please give the role of Adam Jansen to the actor :worship: Hugh Jackman . He is the perfect Adam Jansen. The similarity is striking. Just look at the role of Wolverine . Please take Hugh Jackman !!!

Hitman bombed incredibly hard (did not even make its budget back, and in fact made LESS than the Hitman movie from 2007), and now they have cold feet about future video game projects, all of which they likely thought they could push out the door and make a quick buck on regardless of quality.

Why do they keep trying? Who genuinely believes that videogame movies are a good idea?

...and now they have cold feet about future video game projects...

This article (http://m.uk.ign.com/articles/2015/09/09/hitman-producer-dreams-of-shared-square-enix-movie-universe) suggests otherwise...

Why not keep trying? Video game movies can be a good idea, it depends on the execution. I enjoyed the Resident Evil and Tomb Raider movies, for example.

No reasonable group is going to fund this endeavor. After Hitman bombing, there is no way they're going to get a real amount of funding for either of these projects. Never mind the development hell that the DX movie has been in for years.

I enjoyed the Doom flick with the Rock and Karl Urban, I realize that it was trash though. I like the Deus Ex franchise too much to enjoy the thought of making a trash flick out of it, so I'm against the idea of a movie.

I just don't understand why they don't drop the movie idea and make a TV show. Lower-budget, lower-risk, but with far more storytelling potential. It's a much better fit for the Deus Ex franchise than a movie.

Maybe they think that movie will bring them more money? But I agree with you- TV series would be a better choice.
