Just because you, the moderator, post an article that doesn't provide sources to their claims, doesn't make it true. Until I see a press release from Square-Enix themselves either, in the this thread or via E3 tomorrow. I choose not to believe this nonsense.

Wait, you're comparing a series with 2.7 million sales in the West, period (http://dragon-quest.org/wiki/Worldwide_Dragon_Quest_Sales), to a series where a single game got more sales than that entire series (3 mil, http://www.vgchartz.com/game/756/final-fantasy-vii/).

Good joke, good one. Of COURSE they're going to focus on the series that's making MULTIPLE times more money in the West. That's simply smart business (isn't to say that DQ can't come over, just that FF is more important).

Edit: have to say, I'm still amazed. Wow. Just WOW. Da-a-a-a-ang, son! And also, them moving Nomura, Nojima, Kitase--it all makes sense now!

Well, then, good sir. You have made a believer out of me. On an added note, appreciate the smiley face. ;) Shame I was at work when you posted the reply. Glad, I checked before I left for work this evening. YAY!!!! I thought something was up when FF7 never appeared on the PS4 network store after the announcement at Gamescom 2014. Square-Enix, you had most of us fooled. Good Job, on blindsiding us with this after trolling its release back in 2014.

The day has finally come! I am absolutely thrilled for the news about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake!

I was very relieved to hear it will come to PC & ever grateful this info was not withheld. I have questions & concerns relating to this, but this isn't the post for them.

This game will once again cross borders few games can. It will impact the previous fans & newer generations to come. The story was already rich & relevant. The characters, their growth will be felt more deeply then ever. The gameplay itself will determine the rest. I've enjoyed all of the styles throughout the years, so I know & trust it will be great in the remake.

Thank you so very much SE.

Can't wait to play this, it's my first Final Fantasy game that I ever played and it's my favourite. Thank you Square Enix for listening to your fans! And thank you Grimoire for keeping us updated, I didn't know about this until I saw your post!

When they do the mini games for the Golden Saucer, they should use the G-Bike game for the motorbike mini game. That would be fun!

Has any of you listen to the people at E3 when they announced this? They were all cheering! Check on YouTube for 'E3 Final Fantasy 7 remake reaction' and see all the people reaction to this news. That's how popular this game is, everybody that played the game are super happy about it.

I came to this forum expecting it to be exploding with threads about the recently announced FFVII Remake, but I haven't really found any. Maybe I'm just not digging enough? I would have thought at least one thread about this would be on the top page. Anyway...

I'm elated about this news, as are a great deal of fans who experienced FFVII back when it was released (you know, when they made real Final Fantasy games and not the linear, move-from-one-fight-to-another crap they release these days). Sorry kids, but those of us who grew up on games that came before FFX actually know what a real RPG is. And that's what also worries me about this announcement. I'm worried that Square-Enix is going to try to modernize a lot more about FFVII than they should, just to appeal to the twitch-gaming kids that came up on Call of Duty and Devil May Cry games (all good games in their own rights, but not in the same class as FFVII). They have already confirmed that they are not doing an exact remake of the game, and will be making some significant changes. Now, I raised an eyebrow when I played FFX, and FFXII did little to redeem my faith, but I was downright disgusted with FFXIII and its sequels. That was NOT Final Fantasy, no matter what name you slap on the box. Again, you would know this if you grew up playing anything before FFX. If they "modernize" FFVII in the same way they have done to the series itself, I would never even rent another Square-Enix product again, let alone buy one. There are some main features that they would be insane to tamper with:

The Battle System - FFVII is a turn-based/ATB battle system game. That's just how it is, if you change that it effects something that made up part of the "soul" of FFVII. It would take away a lot of the strategy that was a hallmark of the FF games of its time. It would also screw over the materia system, one of the best things about the game.

The Materia - If you get rid of the materia system, this is not Final Fantasy VII...I don't care what label you put on the box. You can insist it is FFVII Remade all you want, it's legally FFVII remade, but no true fan of the original FFVII will regard it as FFVII, Remade or otherwise. We will disown it like a child who has done the unspeakable.

Don't mess with the main story points! - Ok, so if you want to make it so that Aeris never met Zack, ok fine. The fact that she knew him was pretty inconsequential. If you want to make it so that Aeris doesn't die....big problem there. That's a major point in the story line, and although we all wished she had lived, it's one of those "what's done is done" moments, and is one of the most emotionally provocative moments of the game. FFVII didn't enjoy so much success because of the (excellent) game mechanics. The thing that sky-rocketed it to the top of the charts was the spectacularly written story line.

Don't make it an "RPG For Dummies" game! - Seriously, do not soften up the old-school difficulty. If I fight a Weapon, I want to experience a beautiful visually remastered Weapon with an old school Weapon at is core beating the Hell out of me and pushing my party to the edge.

There are other things that other gamers have pointed out (just Google if you want examples) but these are the main ones for me.

Battle System

Final Fantasy VII Remake’s battle system to see “dramatic changes” (http://www.novacrystallis.com/2015/07/final-fantasy-vii-remakes-battle-system-to-see-dramatic-changes-from-the-original/) from the original (Nova Crystallis)
- Rather than fall back on the original’s Active Time Battle style of combat, Nomura says fans should expect “dramatic changes” that gel with the times.

All valid points, Personally I thought FFX should be the model on which all other FF titles should be based upon, I especially liked not having to read 50,000 lines of dialog. The beastary, the arena, the aeons, the leveling system. <3 all of it.
But when Discussing plot points in the future, could you please use " ** SPOILERS ** " before and after the comment, so those of us old enough not to remember the plot vividly can enjoy some of the surprise the remake might offer. tyvm.

As for everything after FFX, I agree, complete and utter garbage,. I played them all hoping to like them, but I just felt they lacked imagination and depth, what ever happened to **SPOILERS ** Chocobo Breeding? and the other fun stuff we got in 7 and 10? ** SPOILERS **

I know each person I talk to who has played the games, has their own version of what makes the game special, but SE seems to be more about making money than the epic fantasy adventures we are used too. I already play two mmos, and I don't want another. Bring back the good old days, of having to use the brain while you play. all the press x to win stuff belongs in the pegi +3 section.

And FYI don't bother with Type-o (zero) it is even worse than 13 part 2. I need to start renting games before I buy them.... expensive mistakes

But why not use Luminous Engine :o , is because it's in development and SE plan to keep updated it until it fully support DX12, that way they can start to work on the agni's philosophy game with next gen graphics ?

Are square Enix really destroying a spectacular game like ff7 by completely changing the game play element of turn based strategy. I personally haven't purchased a single final fantasy game since they removed turn based combat from the franchise. You might as well change the game's name to Devil Has A Fantasy - the combat system is a hack and slash and the only thing that differentiates ff7 remake with devil may cry is shooting while slashing....
Honestly watching that game play trailer was painful...
It would be great if you had an option to pick your combat preference.

Hello awesome people!

I must voice my thought process.... so I don't own a PS4 yet. I want to see if a special edition console will be released with the 1st ep of FFVII Remake. I don't know if I should just keep waiting until I see a bundled package on the forums or on social media. Being in Australia, some times it is a tad harder to obtain such special products.

Does anybody else think the same way as I? I will none the less buy the game and console, but would MUCH more prefer to buy a super special console!

Thanks :D

To Grimoire,

Can you please keep me updated on the special edition of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. I don't want the incident with Final Fantasy xv ultimate edition to happen again. As soon as the special edition is announce, I'll preorder as soon as possible. I have the feeling that the greedy people will use this to make a big profit for themselves on eBay and stopping us fans from enjoying the game.

Thank you.

I havent enjoyed a FF game since X. Im saddened to see what was once my favorite battle system that spanned over so many genre setting titles that its being turned yet again... into a hack and slash..... didnt like 12 didnt like 13 and now.... im not gonna be into XV.... One of the best RPGs of last generation was Lost Odyssey... Thanks for showing some game play.... I will not waste my money on this like I did the first XIII.... Thanks for the memories.... I will keep the FF i grew up with... rush home from school to play... counted the hours when i could get to my SNES PS and PS2.... Now on the good side.... I love what has been done to Tomb Raider...

I've been playing Final Fantasy games since the original on NES (which I still have, along with the original box, maps, and booklet). While FFIV is probably my favorite in the series, FFVII is a very close second. I bought the original Playstation simply so I could play the game. I've enjoyed how the Final Fantasy series has evolved over the years, with each new game adding something new and different, When the series moved to a more action-oriented gameplay, I was a little disappointed, but I adapted and even began to enjoy the new battle systems (yes, I even enjoyed the XIII games).

I was hoping that the remake of FFVII would include an option to retain the original battle system, but am not too put off by the fact that it won't. I've enjoyed the Dissidia games and highly enjoy the Kingdom Hearts series, so I should be able to easily adapt to this new system. Ever since Square Enix started doing remakes of Final Fantasy games, I've been waiting and hoping for them to redo FFVII. I'm not going to let a little thing like a change to a more action-oriented battle system ruin it for me. :)

Tetsuya Nomura will be an attendee at the Monaco Anime Games International Conference (M.A.G.I.C.).
not known to many individuals is that the region from Gibraltar to Monaco is the actual Costa Del Sol.
posted here are images of the famed forum and the surrounding area.
Is this inspiration for Nomura san and the second chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake?
in this author's opinion there is little question or doubt given the aspects of venue and the title.

Behold! Shinra Sea Port and the beauty of Costa Del Sol.
i can envision Professor Hojo, and the rest of the cast of Final Fantasy VII Remake at leisure on beach in the background.
