Hey all, for our next “Classic Crystal” segment on the podcast, I’ll be looking into the favorite Easter Eggs of the franchise.

Got any favorites you’d like us to cover on the podcast? Leave a note and let us know which ones, why you like them, and if possible, a video showcasing your favorite Easter Egg in action! :D

If we pick yours, we’ll give you a shout out on our next episode!

Just a few ideas to get started: the classic chime after unlocking all the GPS caches in TR2013, the soccer mini-game of LCTOO, and the corner jump of TR1-5.

I'm not sure if it counts as an Easter egg, but I liked being able to kick the ball about in Peru in Legend and hearing the cheer when you 'scored'. You mentioned the classic chime already. I liked Lara reading about artefacts or myths we'd seen in previous games in the books throughout Croft Manor in TR Anniversary. That's the ones I can remember right now.

Yeah the books in Croft Manor in 'Anni' are probably my favorite as well. I thought it was cool how we got to see Lara's source of inspiration for future adventures. That was a really clever homage to older games.

I also liked the reference to 'TR2' in the first 'TR' movie when Lara is talking to Alex and they get into a debate/argument about some old adventure where Lara explains her resentment towards him: "You stole my prayer wheels.". I got a real kick out of that.

Ah, and let's no forget the Ark of the Covenant from TR1, and the Chachapoyan Fertility Idol from the TR3. :D

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. If anyone else has any more, keep them coming. Would love to hear what other favorites we have (or even repeats if people have other reasons for why they love them.)

Loved the soccer ball one! Meagan and I were just talking about this in studio. :friends:

Both good ideas and references! Thank you.

As a huge fan of the classic titles I LOVED the use of the original secret plink so I really do hope it is used again in ROTTR and other future titles. If Croft Manor comes back Winston following you around was always of those fun oddities.

Surprised no one mentioned FeeFee in TR9 yet :)

I was going to, but wasn't sure if he's considered an Easter egg. Also, I liked that one fish from TRA that followed you as you swam through tunnels. Can't remember if he had a name.

Wasn't there also Nessy in one of the classics....?

Oh yes ! Nessy did appear in the TR3 expansion ( The lost artifact I think ) . I remember it scaring the hell out of me because its appearance is so sudden and unexpected .

I don't know if this was intentional, but in the Rise of the Tomb Raider trailer when her therapist says "Like a ship frozen in ice" it could be a reference to the real 1912 Endurance ship, that was actually frozen in ice. With Grim/Roth's ship named after the original Endurance I think that can qualify as an Easter Egg hahaha.

Ooh, I've just been reminded of another that gave me a chuckle: the underpus soft toy in Lara's cabin on the Endurance. So cute.

Where was there a soccer mini game in LCTOO?!

Thanks for contributing MaxRaider, Rai, RayCroft93, Chocolate_shake, Error96_ and Driber!

If you have any others, please let us know. Also, bonus points if you can explain why you like the easter egg. For example, I love soccer so any soccer-related references are automatic wins for me. :D

Yes there was! I believe Treeble first posted about it on the forums earlier this year - http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=149231&p=2099030#post2099030

Wilson from the Castaway - the Easter Egg that never was...

I LOVED this one when we first saw the game at E3. Such a shame it didn't make it to the final version of the game.

^ Now that's something I'd love to hear in a podcast why it was cut ;)

The Indiana Jones easter egg in both Last Revelation and Anniversary. :D

Loved those easter eggs, they were quite clever (and even metaphorical if you really wanted to get into the TR4 one. The skeleton=the end of Indiana Jones' fame and Lara's youth=the beginning of hers :p)

I must have missed that, I'll have to go back and find it, sounds cool though.

I think my favorite easter egg had to be when you collected the last of the GPS caches and you hear the TRI (or was it II?) chime. I was hit with an ear load of nostalgia from when I played my first video game with my dad as a young child and I picked up the beginning relic. What can I say? Sometimes I'm a sucker for nostalgia :D

Hard to go past the GPS caches Easter Egg in TR2013. I remember when I collected all of them the first time, and hearing you know what. ;)

not sure if this is really an easter egg or just a coincidence but the scene lara rises from the blood is almost the exact same as from the movie the descent ;) http://kotaku.com/5989988/the-hardcore-horror-flick-that-turns-up-in-tomb-raider

I always picture "Apocalypse Now" when I see that "Blood River" bit...

I'd be willing to guess this probably inspired that bit from 'The Descent' (great movie, BTW. Haven't seen 'The Descent 2' yet.).

Hey all, thanks for submitting everything! I’m working on crafting the segment now and your input is incredibly helpful!

In regards to the last few posts on “The Descent,” we did mention its influence on Tomb Raider in Game Informer in February. Check out the article here if you missed it. “The Descent” is mentioned on page 2. :D
