Hi everyone!

Thief will be launching across the world over the next few days, an exciting time for all of us, and many of you will be getting the chance to play the game we have been working on all this time.

Unfortunately, we cannot rule out that some of you will be having technical issues trying to play the game, especially on the PC platform, with the large variation of hardware and software configurations that exist.

This forum is primarily intended for users to share their experiences and help each-other to resolve problems. Official support for the game can be contacted via the below links:

For more information on Thief please visit the official website: www.thiefgame.com, and community http://community.eidosmontreal.com/src?theme=thief.

To ensure you can all have a great experience with Thief we will also have staff from Eidos Montreal, Square Enix and Nixxes visit this forum and try to help you where possible. Please understand they will not be able to respond to every individual issue. If you require support on your specifc issue please use the above support links.

Specifically for PC gamers, before posting, please keep in mind the below things:

1. Install the latest drivers for your graphics card/chipset. Even if you are sure you have up to date drivers, please get the latest from your graphics card manufacturer and install them.
• For NVidia users, please ensure you have the latest driver. This can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us.
• For AMD, please install AMD Catalyst 14.2 Beta, or if you are uncomfortable using a Beta driver, the most recent released official Catalyst driver. This can be found here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
• For Intel, please find the latest drivers here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx.

2. If the game does not even make it to the launcher and the game executable does not start at all after hitting Play. Try the following.
• From C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Thief\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010, run DXSetup.exe
• From C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Thief\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010, run vcredist_x64.exe.
• From C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Thief\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010, run vcredist_x86.exe.
• Reboot. Try launching the game again from Steam.

3. Please disable any additional software that might be getting in the way.
Various virus scanners are known to be problematic with a lot of games, so please try disabling them temporarily to see if it solves your problem.
ASUS GamerOSD / SmartDoctor is known to be a source of problems and crashes on many games including Thief. We recommend removing these from your machine.

4. Please verify all files are present on your PC correctly.

Steam offers convenient functionality to verify your local files. Right Click on Thief in your Steam game library, select 'Properties'. Select the 'Local Files' Tab, Select 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache'. Steam will verify all your files and will re-download any required in cases there are corruptions.

5. Please start the game at lower quality settings.

After the launcher appears on game startup, select Options, and reduce the resolution to the lowest possible setting as well as select quality level 'Extra Low'. If the game runs correctly at those settings, selectively try upgrading settings to end up at a quality level that works for your machine.

6. Please ensure your machine or graphics card is not overheating or running into problems due to being overclocked.

Please use standard factory settings for your hardware to see if this resolves your problem.

If these steps do not help resolve your problem we would like to hear from you. The official support mechanism is at the top of this post, but you are also free to post here with the below information:

• Your system specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS).
• GPU driver version used. If you have multiple GPUs (for example in a laptop) please provide information for both.
• The game logs some information in a file called Thief.log in a Thief folder of the Documents folder on your PC. Please provide the contents of this file.
• When the game crashes crash information is left behind in this same Thief folder. Please provide the dumps for the time/date at which you had the problem you are trying to resolve.
• Please provide clear information on what exactly happens when trying to play the game on your machine. Do you manage to get into the launcher or does it already happen before that? Does the game always crash at a specific point in the game, or randomly after a certain time?
