I am so excited for the new Tomb Raider that's coming out in the near future.

But, I have one question...

What time of the year/next year do you think the game will come out? First quarter. third, fourth?

VaBanes

First. 2015.

First or second 2015.

CD haven't actually properly announced the game. As in, we know there is a game in the works, but that is all. We don't have a name or even so much as a screen shot.

With that in mind, I don't think the game will release this year. 2015 is likely, and possibly an autumn release. I'm more interested in when they'll start showing stuff.

I hope they announce it at this year's E3. I need my Tomb Raider fix.

^ Oh gosh that is 5 months from now... There will sure be some trailers and footage at the E3 but I really hope we get to see some screens before that...

Maybe I am foolishly optimistic but I think the release date could be in the 4th quarter of '14. You know they said that they were in a further stage of development than people might expect...

I don't think they'd release the Definitive Edition and a new Tomb Raider in the same year.

One can hope, but 2015 is a more realistic date.

17th Jan 2014, 01:54
Just because they've announced it doesn't mean it's coming out this year, they announced the reboot like 4 or so years before it actually came out. :p

I think we'll definitely be getting a teaser at E3, but I don't expect anything else until then. And like everyone else is saying I'll bet the sequel will come out sometime late 2015 as well. :D

i hope its more like summer of 2015, take your time and make sure you do it right

hey guys moving this to TR10 section :)

I personally doubt it will release in 2014 but if it will it guess the last quarter of 2014 makes the most sense. Looking at the promotional side since they started promoting 2013 very early before release (6+ months i thought)

No, I don't see a new TR releasing this year.
It will be announced in 2014 for sure but it will release in 2015.

Tomb Raider 10 will be releasing February 19, 2015. ;)

i don't want to be repetitive,
but i do think it will be a while before TR10 is released.
and i don't mind that at all. it has big shoes to fill after the
TR reboot.
however, if we see a teaser or some screens this year, i would be
more than pleased. :)

2014 would seem to be rushed in my view. CD should not go the activision path and release a game every year. it would be possible that it might come out by the end of the year since they know what to do and have a clearer picture of of the progress of lara. they have the engine now and they surely will upgrade it and creating the new levels, etc.
but i think beginning 2015 could be a more suitable date for it to be released. who knows, maybe they choose 5th of march again :p

I just hope they don't make us wait 5 years again. The longest I would wait is 2016, max. But it will probably release in 2015!

Murphdawg1

Q2-2015. Very well could see the next Uncharted in 2015 as well so talk about direct competition.

VaBanes

I could see TR10 getting released in Spring 2015 and the next Naughty Dog game in Summer or Autumn. Just like it was with TR9 and TLOU. ^^

Reason being, 2016 is my graduation year, and I want to still have that one last release, since I had so much fun waiting and talking about Tomb Raider 9 with friends everyday.

It would be a part of my childhood leaving, me officially becoming an adult. I'd just want one of those last things that I can remember one day. I discovered Tomb Raider: Legend when I was looking through one of those PS2 demo discs, and it's just a huge part of my gaming history. It will always be my favourite game, and I want that small part in my life forever.

maybe they go the duke nukem way and say: "when its done". which means in 14 years :p

They been working on it for 1½ year, that's for sure.
Once TR got finished somewhere in late 2012 and the Q&A tok over, the rest of the team went and started on TR2.

So i'm guessing on E3 we will see TR2 and maybe, jst maybe a holiday release, otherwise early 2015. I do hope for 2014.

VaBanes

I agree with you.

I think they had finished the game in 2010 - 2011, since it took over 4 years to make. I don't think CD will make us wait long again, that would really suck! :hmm:

I imagine they know already where they want to go with Lara after Yamatai and considering the new consoles are x86-64 bit systems, development for them should be much easier and take less time.

Uhm, that's even more wrong than what bent said, lol.

I'm not sure the latter would be much of a time safer. That probably only makes porting a bit easier, but they still have to create the base game, first, which involves a LOT more than just some programming work.

Besides, new hardware also means new tools to learn. And new tech to try out, etc. So in the end it might even be more work.

How much is there to really learn though with the new consoles considering they're basically optimized PCs. Also isn't that kind of what the Definitive Edition is for? Sure new artwork has to be created as Lara will be in a different location(s) but that could have started even before or slightly after the release of TR2013.

Driber
28th Jan 2014, 21:03
^ With every new console jump, devs need to learn how to work on them. For the first few years, they don't manage to get everything out of a console and only later in its lifespan the devs really get good at mastering the tech. Neither us probably knows how much of a difference it's going to make the fact that next gen are even more like PCs than before.

No, I don't think having made TRDE, the devs already know everything they need to know. Like Scot said, it's more of a stepping stone.

is there any chance for a new release this year, this Tomb Raider was really something special, so, is there a rumor for TR2014?

Well, there's no reason to be rude about it, plus the added "lol" at the end makes one feel dumb.

The game did take 3+ years to make.

Rude?

I merely stated you're more wrong than Bent, who suggested 1.5 years and you suggested that the devs have been working on TR10 for even longer than that.

The "lol" bit was me finding it funny that first you agree with me that it hasn't been as long as 1.5 years (at least that's what I thought you were doing) but then went on to claim an even bigger number than that. I was not laughing at you, if that's what you thought. Sorry if you took it that way :(

I think its weird when companies dont talk about their products, like their hiding how bad it is, haha. Hope the next TR isnt as bad as the last one. But I dont know if they learned anything or are stuck in that same mindset of poor game design. I hope they got new people to get fresh ideas to keep the game fun.

No chance their going to release both TRDE and TR10 in 2014.

My best bet is that they will release TR10 in 2016, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of TR1.

Shaikh

2016 is way too much late. They won't need 5 years to develop this game since its already based on the game engine they created for the latest game. A mid 2015 is the latest I can see. :)

I wish they could give even the vaguest indication of the release date: I'm planning to make a big trip to Australia in the winter of 2014/15 that will take 3 months at least, but when there's a press conference in Amsterdam for TR10 I wouldn't want to miss it for anything in the world. So I don't know when it's safe to plan the trip. Or are there also press conferences in Sidney?

No there are no TR press conferences here in Sydney, like there are in Amsteerdam.:D

A fan of gaming and have got a huge collection of games so I am eagerly waiting for the release of Tomb Raider 10 . Now I am playing the titanfall which I purchased from http://www.instant-gaming.com/fr/.
