View Full Version : Would you like Peter Connelly to be back?

I wanted to make a poll about it but cannot find an option, anyway I've been wondering about this subject for quite some time.

Would you like Peter Connelly, the video game composer of TR4, 5 and 6 to be back onboard? Personally I find his work to be the most vibrant in the series, especially in TR6. It'd be great if the next Tomb Raider had a soundtrack made by him.

If you don't remember here are three examples:

Intro Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpjg_HBODPo
Paris Intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBy5sU8P5Oc

And here you can hear all of his work:

So, what do you think about it? Tomb Raider 2013 had quite an indistinct soundtrack at least in my opinion.

I had no idea it was the same composer for TR 4, 5 and 6!

AOD's soundtrack is definitely one of my favourites!

yes...
yes...
YES.
That's my final answer.

Do you have other examples of his work than AoD? Because I must be the only person on the planet that doesn't like the music from that game.

My answer would be, I really don't mind who composes the music, as long as the music is good. But then, if it's good or bad is a matter of taste.

I loved the music from every Tomb Raider game except for the last one. The fist theme song from TR1 still sounds completely beautiful and iconic. I'm not saying the reboot's was bad, but like Caesum said, it was kind of indistinct.

I miss the harps and plain song. I miss the slightly dreamy, ancient, underwater-y quality of the old melodies from the first 6 games, if that makes sense. I hope that whoever composes for the next game can do something more like the originals.

Rai - of course. You know what? I'll insert a link to his SoundCloud page where you can hear pretty much all of his work for Tomb Raider and other games.

TR6: https://soundcloud.com/peter-conz-connelly/sets/tomb-raider-angel-of-darkness
TR5: https://soundcloud.com/peter-conz-connelly/sets/tomb-raider-v-chronicles
TR4: https://soundcloud.com/peter-conz-connelly/sets/tomb-raider-iv-the-last

And I agree with PallasAthene. I also loved how distinguished the melodies from first 6 games were. Well, everything in these games screamed "class" and "style". I miss it personally.

I miss the harps and plain song.

I don't know about this Connelly fellow and I think Crystal D have their own established team by now... But I agree on the harps - harp music is just devine. :)

Out of the three games, I think he really captured the feel of the game with AoD, other than that, I don't like his work.
Having said that, although I liked what Jason Graves did with TR9, I missed having a soundtrack that you could actually /get/ into.

So, I'm undecided.

I would like Nathan Mcree and Peter Connelly back doing the music for the next game.
All the Core era TR had really great sound and while TR (2013) has good music it really fails to stand out from other games. When you entered a tomb in the classics, there would be a gorgously mysterious tune that would set the mood and then the panic scores could scare you even before the enemy came. The way AOD linked the tunes to give the music a vibe was ace and every TR game since has fallen WAY short of that.

Using a system of scores with trigger points would be a big improvment over long pieces of battle music when enemies are near by.

i sure love a good soundtrack i can listen to for a longer period. i can understand why TR9 had mainly darker themed tracks but i hope the next title will have some more relaxing, calmer tunes to listen too as we had with the LAU games.
i personally dont care who composes the music as long it suits to the situation and the atmosphere.

Personally, I love Jason Graves' work for TR 2013. I listened to it on my phone and, one thing I hadn't ever noticed before, the pure depth and the eerieness (THE EERIENESS WAS BEAUTIFUL) of his work sometimes got my heart racing. That's not normal for me. Maybe I was running. :D

But seriously AOD I loved a lot. Really. But I just hope that people don't just remove Jason out of the question just because one's opinion of TR 2013.

@Caseum, thank you :). I do like the music from TR:LR, so I wouldn't mind if he came back. But as I said, the composer isn't an issue for me, I'll either like the music or not. I liked a lot of what Jason Graves did for 2013, it felt kinda natural, if that makes sense. So I wouldn't mind if he returned as the composer, but it would need to fit the style of the game, just like the percussion style suited TR'13.
