This is the official wishlist for the next TR game (TR10). All feedback we receive from the community will be added to the OP and will be presented to the TR dev team.

Please review the list of wishes in the OP before posting new wishes - if your wish is already there, then just copy&paste it (including the wish #) and then we'll increase the vote count by 1.

Please state your wish or vote in bold, red text, so to make it stand out from the explanations and discussions in this thread. Explanations and discussions can be elaborate, but keep the actual wishes to be added to the OP short and to the point (see list below).

Thank you :)

62. Keep Rhianna Pratchett
69. The ability to turn off helper buttons. Just like LAU had.
72. Keep Jonah in next game, and give him more helpful in the game by making him part of the combat or so. Or Reyes

I took out the boss fights one, but that doesn't mean I dont want boss fights, what I'd like to see is a puzzle element to the boss fights, and to make it less of a QTE fight and more of a good old regular fight, while using different fighting methods. Bosses should feel different to regular enemies.

* I am not entirely against QTEs, but they must be sparse and be such that they form a different approach to normal gameplay/combat.

*While I wouldn't want as much focus on Lara as this game, I feel that there is room for more development; it would feel false if she goes from an amateur and vulnerable, more human Lara, who does scare, who does hurt, who does show many emotions, to someone who is 100% competent and sure of herself, who doesn't react to what's happening, who doesn't feel pain (emotional or physical).

:)

How could anyone want to replace Camilla? D:

For me, she's the worst voice actress that has played Lara. Her pitch is too high, most of the time she sounds like she's having an asthma attack and her acting skills are average at best. I had to turn down the volume of my tv to play the game because her acting was getting on my nerves! I really tried to like her, but it was impossible for me...

And personally, I want multiplayer to be more fleshed out. More modes, maps, party system, and better matchmaking.
A more-fleshed out multiplayer suite, if you will.

Also, absolutely admirable work on this thread. It seems daunting just looking at it.

A more-fleshed out multiplayer suite, if you will.

- Lara topless or even sex scene (it's 18+ now)!:D

Metalrocks, Murphdawg1, pidipidi39, FearEffect. I totally don't want just watch her breasts. I like new Lara a lot. Now she is a person, not just a sexy tomb raider she use to be. Now she cares about friends and we watch her becoming a fighter. Why not show us how she falling in love or maybe just like somebody a lot.
Sex is a natural part of people lives, so why not? There was a sex in "Heavy rain". It was a good scene, emotional scene. It's nothing bad about this if it done with taste.

Wasn't that part of the reason for the reboot though? Her clothing along with her big boobs sexualized too much? Why not just have Lara in clothing appropriate to the climate that she's exploring in instead of saying she has to have "X outfit" or "Y outfit".

TR got rebooted because what CD was doing got stale, not because Lara was showing to much skin. Oh so every girl who has big breasts or wears shorts are sexuilized? That's not how it works. Lara wearing shorts does not make her overly sexuilized. That's at the fault of the player, not the game.

I'm not saying "LARA NEEDS TO WEAR THE CLASSIC OUTFIT EVERYWHERE. EVEN IN ANTARCTICA. EVEN IN THE SHOWER." I'm totally down for multiple outfits that suit the climate as you said, I probably should have elaborated that in my other post. But what I am saying is, if she's in the jungle or a warm place, then logically speaking she should be wearing shorts, * la classic style. :D

Video game characters are always going to be objectified, that's what the people who play the games do, it's human nature to objectify. But it's how Lara or any other character in a game is portrayed, that's what matters. Lara isn't portrayed as a sex object in the game, she isn't exploited or posed topless in renders, she remains a female but it isn't something that's shoved in your face or used to sell the game.

Yeah, on this you are right... but, for example, you can escape from the enemies (at the gate's combat) and run around the shanty town killing them one by one or you can jump into the action and be 1 vs 100 lol

In Legend for example this wasn't possible... there was only one way of going through combat...

That was what I meant with ''two ways'' :)

larafan25
19th May 2013, 23:16
I'm not sure hat wish is about combat though, it just says action and to me it kind of implies levels or areas such as rescuing the crew, etc.... those very action-oriented "sequences" don't offer non-linearity or multiple ways.

To suggest a couple...

One nobody's done yet, other than the oblique reference to 18+, and though it's not a big thing it nonetheless rankles:

90. Lose the profanity - regardless of the 18+ rating.

A guy I once worked with was fond of a phrase I've never forgotten: "Profanity is a strong way of expressing a weak mind." I agree, fully.

This it not an issue of religious mores but rather the easy avoidance of something that's on the general level of Beavis and Butthead and which therefore needlessly pollutes the game with a sewer of gutter juvenility that TR has heretofore managed to stay above. It reminds me of the jarring, gratuitous profanity in that horrid thing called "Longest Journey" - the first PC game I never finished, out of mind-numbing boredom despite beautiful graphics. IOW, do we really need this? Yes, it may seem more "real," but can't we escape any of the uglier details of "real life" even in an adventure game? 'Nuff said.

'Not real clear on whether we're supposed to be voting on more than one item (though most here are,) but make this one my official vote, 'cause it's probably of the most importance to me as a TR fan and gamer:
91. Return to the "unreal."

I did a gloriously-verbose soapbox rant over on the "Lara's look" thread (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1917553&postcount=1193) that pretty much covers it. All "realistic" human-vs.-human conflict and zero element of the fantastic, the alien or the impossibly weird (think: TRIII's Willard Spider Mutant, among a few hundred others,) make Lara a dull girl.

I should add a positive I failed to mention about TR 2013: 'Liked the wolf attacks as a relief from the endless Bad Guy shoot-'em-ups - though the continuing absence of the above-Lara's-shoulder camera-lock option and the sad limitation of most humanoids to two hands makes keeping them in front of you a full-time task that doesn't allow for anything so complex as shooting. So that brings up another wish that I haven't seen on any lists:

92. Restore the 3rd-person above-Lara's-shoulder camera lock of the early TR games, at least as a toggleable option.

Camera control has been a continuous thorn in the side of TR gamers since - I forget, Legend? - and is something I just don't want to have to dink around with, ever. YMMV. Just give us that simple option, with the standard "Look" function assigned to whatever key or button. In some contexts full camera control is useful, but most of the time it's just a colossal pain in the arse. And then there's the whole "Let's all have a good barf" thing that some have brought up - I came across that during a couple of the heavy wind sequences and had to stop playing just to get the vertigo and nausea under control. The opposite of fun, that.
.

I have seen no one wishing for Lara to be topless in a render, so your argument about "using sex to sell the game" is entirely void.

Li Mu Bai wishing for Lara to be topless meant in-game AFAICS.

Blatantly posing nude Lara in a render and doing something tasteful such as this http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1917176&postcount=41 in-game (i.e. justified in the context of a specific cutscene) are two completely different things.

Not that it's ever going to happen, of course. Just sayin'

'Nuff said.

Fully agreed :thumb:

+1 to that wish for me.

The opposite of fun, that.
.

It's not like there was cursing every 2 seconds. I'm pretty sure if most of us were in the situation Lara or even Sam were in we'd probably use a few four letter words as well.

It's not like there was cursing every 2 seconds.

Play the game again with subtitles on; there was a LOT of swearing. You may miss a lot of it if you don't pay very close attention to the dialog.

I'm pretty sure if most of us were in the situation Lara or even Sam were in we'd probably use a few four letter words as well.

I'm sure this was the flawed logic that Rhianna was going by, yes

Added to OP :)

also, added my wish to 90.

it never felt to me there was a lot of profanity in the game. compared to max payne 3, TR is kindergarten. i personally dont mind some minor swearing. lara using the S word was a pretty natural reaction after not finding any first aid supplies in the downed chopper. besides, it were the other guys who were swearing a lot, and thats pretty obvious that they will be foul mouthed. if they woulndt swear, it would feel like a parody. seeing this primitive scavengers doing their dirty work and they dont swear one bit, just feels awkward.

now i have to use a personal view, but im glad that this TR is more down to earth. towards the ending with the samurais was already supernatural enough and it worked. having more unreal stuff in it, would make this reboot a loss and take away all the elements we know from this one.
like i said, its a personal view. i enjoyed this TR for what it is because its not over unreal again as the other titles. i always wanted a TR game that is more real.

Driber

^ The F word is not "minor" swearing by any stretch of the imagination. Minor swearing would be "damn" etc.

I agree with you that it makes sense that those low lives that were trying to kill Lara would use profanities - I have no problem with that whatsoever. It's Lara swearing (and using pretty vulgar words at that) that is putting me off.

It's un-lady-like and to me, it's un-Lara-like.

She doesn't have to stoop down to that level just for the sake of "realism"

As for it being "natural" - that doesn't hold water in my view, either. It's also natural to be naked, yet due to social norms, we won't see Lara's private parts in a TR game and I bet most fans (including me, for the record) support this notion.

Being naked and using profanity are both against social norms. I don't see why one would be acceptable and the other not. But hey, that's just my crazy logic :p

lol, looks like it.
and what i mend more with "minor swearing" is the amount of profanity (should have made it clearer. my mistake). yes, the F word is a strong one but is not that frequently used in TR as in other games.
i also wasnt used to hear max payne using the F word a lot. we never heard these words in the first 2 titles and suddenly part 3 explodes with profanity. but to me, it worked.
and a lady not swearing just makes me laugh. i can name many "ladies" who swear a lot. at times more then men. and im talking from experience as being a ex-security officer. and i was at very fancy places where only rich people are. there i hear the F word pretty much every 5 minutes. especially from women.

that you say that its not lara like, i can understand, because she never used bad language in previous games, but they were also mend for younger players.
and i know you will say that even in a mature game there doesnt have to be profanity, which i agree, but the situation lara is in, i think everyone would lose it at one stage and do and say something you normally would never do. so thats why i said "natural" ;)

and regarding nudity, i see this as a different thing. hearing words and seeing things is a little different to me.
if you have played the game "the void" (which actually got a PG rating in australia) you see fully naked women. no im not kidding. fully naked. but they arent shown in a sexual way but in an artistic way. they dont pose in an sexy way to turn someone on but they are just naked to give them an fragile/helpless feeling. and it worked wonderfully in this game. i dint see them as an sexual being but as a helpless person who needed help.

i dont want to see lara naked either (after all i dint vote for her being naked) but if so, and i mean "if so", then it really depends in what way she is exposed to. if its shown like in the movie "witness" were this amish woman was washing her self, or in "braveheart" after the wedding (ok, this was more a romantic scene), this could work. but as i said, its not needed and i can live very well with it.
but again, this is just my view of nudity.

edit:
and regarding this pic of alngelinas naked back as an acceptable moment, i see this as an provocative scene.

i dont want to see lara naked either (after all i dint vote for her being naked) but if so, and i mean "if so", then it really depends in what way she is exposed to.

Indeed, everything depends on the context.

I've got a gut sense that Crystal Dynamics will never show her topless and/or having sex, but if they did it would not automaticly mean the sexualisation of Lara, as many people I think would claim.

Kate Winslet goes naked and has sex with Leonardo in Titanic, but I think few people would consider her character to be sexualized. That is because the movie does not show her nude exclusively for the sake of her being nude, but because of her character of Rose wanting to revolt against the oppressing way her family and boring husband are controlling her life, she does what would have been totaly unthinkable if she were to obey them. And of course, it shows the hight of her emotional commitment to Leonardo.
On the other hand, Megan Fox in the transformers movies is definitely sexualized, whilst she doesn't go naked or even shows that much cleavage. It's in the little ways her character is treated ("hey you! in the sports bra!") or how shamelessly Michael Bay lets the camera zoom in on her. And as a viewer you know that her sexyness is done for no other person than the movieviewer, because there's no chemistry between her and her supposed boyfriend...

Depending on the context, a naked Lara could be less of a sex object than in, for example, Legend, were the camera shows a close up of her backside in the starting cutscene of level 2, or Underworld, were she wears the most ridiculous wetsuit imaginable.

When it comes to sex in games I always refer to the scene in Prince of Persia the Sands of Time as an example of how this can be done right. I'll show the youtube movie once again:

by3vfozKbfg

I think this is a beautiful scene. It's gentle and romantic, and more suggestive than explicid, showing no full nudity. It also fits within the context of the game, because when they kiss the Prince wakes up as if it were a dream and finds that his precious dagger is gone. So it may all have been a halucination so that the Princess could take his weapons away.

If a sexscene would show up in a future Tomb Raider that treats the subject like this I would sing its praises from a mountaintop. If it would treat it with juvenile Leslie Nielsen humour I think it would be the worst idea in the history of mankind since the invention of the H-bomb.

Heh, thanks for clarifying. But you're still wrong IMO, because Lara *does* swear quite a lot in TR9 with vulgarities (she also says the S-word often). There's no denying that. Even the devs said so

So I stand by my view that it's not a case of "minor swearing". As I said earlier to someone else - try playing the game with subtitles on and you may catch a lot more occasions where Lara swears; they are often easily missed in the heat of battle.

i also wasnt used to hear max payne using the F word a lot. we never heard these words in the first 2 titles and suddenly part 3 explodes with profanity. but to me, it worked.

The 18+ rating has nothing to do with it. If the game was rated teen and used the exact same kind of language as in TR9, you wouldn't magically change your mind about swearing, would you? ;)

Just because a game is 18+ doesn't automatically mean that suddenly "everything goes". If CD would use the rating logic as a justification to release nude raider there would still be an uproar about it.

and i know you will say that even in a mature game there doesnt have to be profanity, which i agree, but the situation lara is in, i think everyone would lose it at one stage and do and say something you normally would never do. so thats why i said "natural"

lol, so "losing it" automatically means saying the S and the F word? That's a very simplistic way of looking at it, IMO. If you're saying those profanities in moments of stress, it still means that you are already conditioned to use that kind of language. And that just means that Lara is less of a role model than she used to be.

and regarding nudity, i see this as a different thing. hearing words and seeing things is a little different to me.

No, it's not that black&white. Some images can hurt more than some words, and some words can hurt more than some images.

One isn't automatically "worse" than the other.

You can't tell me that Michelangelo's David is more controversial than, say, Sarah Silverman, Rosanne, or Richard Pryor.

Noticed one of the suggestions is to keep tombs secret without help popups or arrows. That will lead to players completing the game not finding any tombs, thus defeating the point of it being tomb raider. Keep in mind it is Tomb Raider, not optional Tomb Raider, or just Farcry with a girl, the whole game should be a tomb :D with glorious treasures where we go to exotic places meet rare species encountering ancient cultures and kill them.

at times the rating does matter if bad language is used a lot or even nudity. i havent played a T rated game that had a lot of profanity or naked people. plus, in australia we dont really have these rating. G, PG, M, MA and now, finally 18+, are the ratings we have here for games.
plus, i never said that a 18+ rated game means you can do anything you want. besides, TR9 is rated MA15+ with the "strong violence" written next to it. surprisingly nothing about the language.
well, doesnt matter if the game is rated 18 or not, people always complain if they see as much as a tiny little bit of a private part. im pretty sure some will complain about the newest metro game because it contains nudity. even the witcher got complains. and this game has been rated MA15+, so as far cry 3. and they wrote next to it that it contains nudity and sex scene.

But you have two ways in TR9 D:

Or do you mean being able to do stealth or combat everytime?

You not always have two ways. There was levels in witch you just have to go strait ahead like a train with no choice at all.
Don't like levels like this one:

Lara shold be a person, but when I'm looking on this silliness I don't feel like controlling a person, I feel like controlling the Super Mario, who can go only forward or backward. Agreed, this was way too much hand-holding. It should at least not have been this noticeable on hard difficulty setting.

Do we have a wish already for this? If not, sign me up for the following:

My wish: If there will be optional tombs again, don't blatantly announce it with bells or other in-your-face hints when the difficulty setting is set to hard.

i dont really see this as a difference. both are third person shooters and both contain mature content. only that we have a female protagonist in a different setting.

Well apart from the fact that TR is actually NOT a third person shooter game, they are still different games with different characters and I for that reason I don't like to compare games in way like "X worked for Y, so the same should apply for Z".

Lara is not Max and Max is not Lara.

i was just referring to your word "lady like". ;)
and i wanted to point out that these ladies do swear.

Heh, that was my point exactly - you made it seem as if I was claiming that woman do not swear, which wasn't the case.

All I said was that using profanity is not very lady-like. And that's pretty much a fact (as in, common knowledge).

It's the same as if I would say "Not holding a door for a woman is not very gentleman-like" and then you replying with "Men don't have to hold doors for women, I know plenty of men who do not hold doors for women" - you would be seen as arguing something I never claimed in the first place.

Well obviously, a game rating is going to determine what kind of language is allowed to be used, yes. If a game is rated teen, then you most likely won't find the F word in the game. But that's not what I was saying. I meant that the game rating doesn't matter in this discussion.

You just exemplified why the rating is irrelevant in this discussion - what is allowed in the USA, for example, is something different than what is allowed in your country. Games get rated differently in different countries. So to use the rating argument in this discussion is pointless. We should discuss things from our own personal POVs, not what our countries decide is okay for a certain age group to see :)

well, dint CD say we should forget everything about the old lara?? :p

CD can say whatever they want, it doesn't mean I have to blindly follow their instructions like a sheep :p

Besides, Karl was not very smart to say that, IMHO. It caused a lot of confusion and even bad blood amongst some fans from what I've heard

He later on nuanced that sentence, saying that it shouldn't be taken too seriously. Maybe you missed that part? ;)

and besides, we actually never hear lara use bad language when she was with her friends. not even with sam (at least out of my head now). she used it only when she was alone. so i dont see this as a bad thing. sure, it might hurt her image as a role model if you want to go in to this direction but talking to her self using bad language is not really a bad thing now, is it?

Okay, let me first say that there is nothing wrong with a person talking out loud to themselves and using profanities. No one gets hurts with that, no. If I bump my toe when I'm alone in my house, I may also use vulgar language to express myself.

However, that is not quite the same as intentionally writing such language in the script, having the script read by Rhianna's superiors and having them approve of it, then having the programmers program it, then having the voice actress record it, and finally having it printed on the disc.

In the RL example, no one except myself will hear the profanity - no harm done. In the Lara example, millions of gamers hear the profanity - huge difference there.

Secondly, I'm not sure you are right with saying that Lara only swore when she was alone. I'm pretty sure I remember she swore in front of Roth, and also a few times over her walky talky.

ok, i have no idea who these people are. never heard of any of them.

No, actually. It was to show off Lara's rebellious spirit.

Hillary was trying to turn Lara more into a lady (ironic, considering the discussion, ha :D) and Lara dropping her towel in front of Hillery was her way of saying "I don't want to be posh" in a cheeky, mischievous way.

There was nothing sexual about that scene. Well, at least not to me...I realize that some folks have that "nudity = sex" mentality, but here in Europe (well, in Holland and in the Czech Republic, at least) we generally take nudity as something normal and natural.

Just like old games and as others suggested I would like to meet more exotic enemies from all over the world. Some ideas to give the game a more cultural perspective drawing attention to the histories of other ethnic peoples would be the following which span the different continents. (Maybe each continent could be a DLC? creating the largest sandbox world ever, pretty cool marketing line!!!!)
Yetis aKa Abominable Snowmen (Asia)
Ice Giants (North America)
Minotaurs (Greece)
Aliens(Africa)
Zombies Pirates (Spain)
Witches/Wizards (Europe)
Chupacabras (South America)

not directly your choice of words regarding your wish, but wish #5 pretty much comes close to it ;)
so if you want, your wish can be added to it.

when i hear the word "lady" i think of fancy/rich women. so i guess we both dint understand each other with that. but i do understand your meaning. but i dont take this thing too serious. its to me a figure of speech, nothing more. women do swear, there is no law saying that "ladies" shoulndt swear.

and as i said, i can only remember lara swearing for her self and not with others. thats something small i dont really look at. i guess i really dont have a problem with profanity as such.
yes, of course the players hears it. and if someone takes it so seriously for a hand full of words being offensive, then they shoulndt play it. it has been stated that profanity is used in the game. but in TR its not the case that profanity is used in every single sentence. if so, then i would have a problem with it as well.
but i guess this is a matter of opinion. if lara wants to use some bad words, thats fine, its not like she uses it in every sentence.

i used to live in switzerland. so i know that nudity is not a big thing either. especially in germany. you see more naked women and sex scenes in simple TV shows during daytime that makes the playboy magazine look like a childrens book.
and nudity is seen more as a bad thing because these people who complain and still being listened at, are these hysterical mothers :mad2: . most of them dont see bad language as a huge problem but as soon they see a tiny bit of nudity, they are already a nuclear explosion.
then they complain about it like its the worst thing on earth wile bad language to them is more or less a minor thing. even when i went to school in switzerland, profanity was not accepted but they treated it more like "dont do it again" minor thing. but as soon someone just as much mentions "sex" or any sexual references or pictures, they went all crazy and punished that person with cleaning duties or what ever. and most teachers really treated it as very serious then profanity.
no, im not making this up.

and yes, i really dont watch tv since its mainly crap on it and these stupid adds turn me off immediately.
yes, i do know david and sistine chapel. just i wasnt sure if you were talking about a tv show.
but still, people complained about them as well. and again, its these stupid hysterical mothers. so you see, doesnt matter. every little thing is a problem.

ok, but lets leave it at that. we clearly have different views on that matter. :)

5. Keep secret tombs secret. No bells and arrows to point it out.
6. Different locations to explore, like Egypt, Peru, etc.
7. Harder Puzzles
11. Less combat more exploring.
12. Keeping the Bow.
14. Dual pistols.
18. More outfits.
21. Croft Manor.

43. Having Lara’s famous backpack.
44. No white ledges.
68. Do Swan dives.
69. The ability to turn off helper buttons. Just like LAU had.
70. Sprint system
74. Return of the TR1/Anniversary Classic outfit

80. A lot more puzzles.
89. No linearity at all. Even in action-packed levels you should have at least to ways of going through.
90. More searchable containers/ items hidden within and with context

And my wishes:

not directly your choice of words regarding your wish, but wish #5 pretty much comes close to it ;)
so if you want, your wish can be added to it.

Ah, perfect. Yes, add my +1 to that wish, please :)

when i hear the word "lady" i think of fancy/rich women. so i guess we both dint understand each other with that.

Heh, I guess. The word "lady" does have several definitions, after all.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/lady?Submit=Dictionary

I was talking about the first definition on that page (which is IMO the most commonly used one):

la·dy
[ley-dee] noun, plural la·dies, adjective
noun
1.
a woman who is refined, polite, and well-spoken: She may be poor and have little education, but she's a real lady.

:)

but i do understand your meaning. but i dont take this thing too serious. its to me a figure of speech, nothing more. women do swear, there is no law saying that "ladies" shoulndt swear.

The "swearing isn't very lady-like" phrase I used earlier is an etiquette rule, not a law, no.

So...what's your point? Just because it's not a law doesn't mean it's a socially accepted usage of language.

(FYI - it is a law in some countries, actually, but that's just a side-fact and not really relevant to this discussion. I'm glad I live in a country where I'm allowed to say any vulgarity I want and not go to jail for it )

and as i said, i can only remember lara swearing for her self and not with others.

Yes, you already said that, indeed. And I said that I don't think you are correct ;)

IIRC, Lara didn't swear just when she was alone, but also in the presence of others.

thats something small i dont really look at. i guess i really dont have a problem with profanity as such.
yes, of course the players hears it. and if someone takes it so seriously for a hand full of words being offensive, then they shoulndt play it.
it has been stated that profanity is used in the game. but in TR its not the case that profanity is used in every single sentence. if so, then i would have a problem with it as well.

What gives you the impression that "I take it so serious"? I don't.

I just don't like it; it's not very Lara-like IMO. And I'm not the only one who thinks so.

To say to those who do not like to hear Lara using vulgar words that they just shouldn't play the game is not really nice. That's like dismissing people's opinions just because you yourself don't have a problem with it.

Many, MANY folks do not like white ledges, for example. Would you tell all of them "so don't play the game then"?

It's not like I'm going to boycott the game just because of some explicit language. It's not that a big of a deal. But this is a thread for voicing your wishes, is it not? And that's exactly what I'm doing

but i guess this is a matter of opinion. if lara wants to use some bad words, thats fine, its not like she uses it in every sentence.

No, but she does swear a LOT. Even the devs said so. So let's neither exaggerate it, nor downgrade it ;)

i used to live in switzerland. so i know that nudity is not a big thing either. especially in germany. you see more naked women and sex scenes in simple TV shows during daytime that makes the playboy magazine look like a childrens book.

Heh, we get German satellite channels over here, so I know exactly what you're talking about :D

and nudity is seen more as a bad thing because these people who complain and still being listened at, are these hysterical mothers :mad2: . most of them dont see bad language as a huge problem but as soon they see a tiny bit of nudity, they are already a nuclear explosion.

While I don't think it's very respectful to refer to them as "hysterical mothers", I do agree with the point that some parents' priorities are sometimes out of whack.

There is a wonderful episode of South Park about this, called "Death". A recommended watch, heh.

then they complain about it like its the worst thing on earth wile bad language to them is more or less a minor thing. even when i went to school in switzerland, profanity was not accepted but they treated it more like "dont do it again" minor thing. but as soon someone just as much mentions "sex" or any sexual references or pictures, they went all crazy and punished that person with cleaning duties or what ever. and most teachers really treated it as very serious then profanity.
no, im not making this up.

I wouldn't think you're making it up; this doesn't surprise me one bit. The world is still way to prude when it comes to nudity and sex, IMO.

and yes, i really dont watch tv since its mainly crap on it and these stupid adds turn me off immediately.
yes, i do know david and sistine chapel. just i wasnt sure if you were talking about a tv show.
but still, people complained about them as well. and again, its these stupid hysterical mothers. so you see, doesnt matter. every little thing is a problem.

As I said, I do agree that some parents have their priorities out of whack, however, that doesn't nullify the problem that language and social norms are degrading. To wave it off as "mothers just being hysterical" is a too easy cop-out, IMO.

I don't know if you have children, yourself, but I wonder what will be left of your nonchalant attitude when it hits close to home. For example, your 13 year old daughter saying "F---ing hell, grandma, that's a S---ty haircut you got" to your mom after returning from the hairdresser

ok, but lets leave it at that. we clearly have different views on that matter. :)

Are you sure? You seem more than content to prolong on this conversation :p :D

If the sequel does follow Crotoan and the Lost Colony, using the direction of John Carpenter's 'The Fog' and 'The Blair Witch Project', would be great for the atmosphere of the game as TR 2013 does have the feel of the great 1970's thrillers and horror movies like 'Deliverance' and 'The Hills Have Eyes.'

My votes are for :
=> more story content. The new tomb raider is really a huge step in the right direction, and i can't thank you enough for that. But we need to go on, learn more of who Lara is, how she thinks, how she interacts with her friends and enemies. Make her even more human, more real, more woman, a smart, witty, considerate, lovable character, with an uncanny ability to cope with any ordeal she gets into, not just with guns and arrows, but also through clever thinking and good friends. Don't make her only a killing machine, she's no super hero with super powers, she's only human (if only a bit on the athletic side, like any good swimmer would be). I can't repeat enough how important the story is in a good game, and here is the opportunity to go even deeper in knowing Lara and her relationships to others.
If you can make us affect the story through dialog and decision making, even better. In the same range, more outfits, scars that remain, non regenerating health, etc... would be welcome. Make her human. give us the ability to get under her skin.
=> more interaction with NPCs such as Samantha. Let's get to know them better, let us interact and play with their relationship with Lara. Make them more real, more believable.
=> a more real environment, being able to swim, to drive vehicles, etc...
=> some of the Lara we know, like the Manor, two guns, swan dives, her parents, etc...
=> all in a very intense story in the background we have known lara, history related quests and why not some supernatural stuff.

=> And give us the ability to get rid of the camera shake, with the current game I can't play for more than an hour without going livid, wanting to throw up on my keyboard and screen. This is the first time it has happened to me, and I'm no casual gamer, and not subject to motion sickness either.

You have done such a wonderful job on TR, please go on ! You're on the right track

Hmm, not sure if I'd like this. Judging by TR9, Lara's pace was well balanced. If she would be able to sprint like in the classic games it might make the game too easy.

Let's not forget we already have fast travel :)

To make the game more interactive with several options events and a lot of endings

I generally dislike multiple endings. Always makes me feel hesitant when the player is given story options as I may end up making that "wrong decision" :D

It may work for some RPGs, but I think in TR it would just cause confusion. TR has never had multiple endings and I prefer it to stay that way

Please no sprint. It annoys me to no end how many current generation games utilize a button to make your character go faster.

http://youtu.be/stlHO4Oosog

This is video from SOCOM Combined Assault, if you go to the 1:15 mark you'll see the player's character running and all he's doing on the controller is pushing all the way forward on the left analog stick. You could walk, go stealthy, trot and even full sprint in these games all by just how much you were pushing forward on the analog stick.

Can we add:

- Manual Grab Option

- Screenshot Feature

I second the Screenshot Feature, definitely.

Or just re-enable the PC's Alt-PrtScr function. I haven't tried running Fraps with the new game yet but that's kind of a piggyback annoyance anyway, and if you try to save a vid clip, the file size is something like 73 zettabytes per second. Something the game devs might want to consider: The ease of taking a screen capture - either a still or a brief vid clip - facilitates passing some of your gameplay along to friends with an enthused "Hey, check out the graphics in this new game!" IOW: spontaneous, zero-cost game promotion by players, with an impressive visual punch to back it up.

To get back on the in-game profanity soapbox again, briefly:
The standard response people have on the profanity question, here and elsewhere, is that "It reflects the real world, so it would seem weird without it." That's definitely true - but it's also beside the point. The problem has to do with a rather gnarly, age-old issue in philosophy: the "Is-Ought" problem.

People will have different views on philosophy too, but I think that art and entertainment alike should at least try to move beyond "this is the way it is" (which again is just journalism, therefore not only dull but trivial and forgettable,) and project "this is how it ought to be or could be." I'm definitely a hardcore Aristotelian (Mr. A was a proponent of "Ought" being a part of one's life, not just an abstraction,) so I'm not impartial on the question, but here's an example:

Take a movie or book where there's a strong, cohesive theme, where the main characters' actions are based on heavy-duty moral dilemmas and the plot points are logical consequences of choices based on character (think: "Braveheart," "Minority Report," or any of the Harry Potter books.) Compare it with a movie or book where it's all journalistic ("First this happened, then this, then this, then this, The End,) where the characters' actions are accidental or whim-driven, and the plot turns on the arbitrary outcomes of random car chases or explosions or who the author or screenwriter assigns to be the winner of a fight (think: virtually anything by J.J. Abrams.)

IOW, it's the difference between a couple empty hours of passive entertainment vs. learning something of contemplative value. One of them is forgotten almost as soon as it's done; the other is something you'll still be thinking about days after the fact (which latter is my litmus test for a good movie or book.)

That's maybe getting a whole lot broader than the point on the "realism" of profanity, but it ties in with my wishlist item on returning to the larger-than-life and the imaginary ("playing against the exciting and unusual, not the mundane and usual.") A projection of "ought" is different than a passive record of what "is," and I want to inhabit a world in which people do a whole lot less acting like pottymouthed sleazebags and more like people I can admire and respect.

Anyhoo... Whoa, that's "briefly."
:rasp: Soreeee....

Oyeah, the always-excellent Virginia Postrel has just written a piece on this very subject, in a review of Abrams' facepalm-worthy assaults on Star Trek:
"Why 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Is Smaller Than Life (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-05-23/why-star-trek-into-darkness-is-smaller-than-life.html)," published yesterday.

Or just re-enable the PC's Alt-PrtScr function. I haven't tried running Fraps with the new game yet but that's kind of a piggyback annoyance anyway, and if you try to save a vid clip, the file size is something like 73 zettabytes per second.

How could I forget this.

'Active Reloading'.

Bring this function in from the Gears of War series. PS3 owners may not have experienced this mechanic but the possibility of your gun jamming whilst reloading adds so much more dramatic tension to the gameplay as well as the increased level of connection between the player and the character without the need for scripted events or QTEs.

Not to mention that badass feeling of nailing a perfect active reload. Having Lara have all those unique responses to perfect/regular/failed active reloading within her character's and the game worlds context (appropriate one-liners would really add to the experience of the next game.

Keep the Hub system. The Zelda/Metroid-vania aesthetic of this game really is the core of its success gameplay wise. I urge everyone who hasn't already to track down 'Super Metroid' on the SNES/Wii, Zelda; 'Windwaker' or 'Ocarina or Time', or 'Castlevania: SOTN' on the PS1/XBLA (Is it available on PSN?) to see the influences on TR 2013.

Increased 'Gear Gating' (ties in with the hub system).

Yes I also enjoy the screenshot feature and would like to see this in the next TR game, CD makes such amazing visuals, great talent that creates the concept art and designers that put it together. CD has always been leaps and bounds ahead of other dev studios when it came to the little touches in animations which is why I would only suggest CD do this. Sure other games have some good visuals but CD is one of only two developers I am aware of that really understand the use of animation in game design. I made a thread requesting a screenshot feature with some animations or poses that I suggested so Lara could post since she is an icon, this way they look sorta like post cards I can send to my friends via email and social media. Many screenshots I upload to various social media such as Facebook, instagram, or twitter and having that ability would make friends go wow whats that I want to be there. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=137306

You *are* forced to upgrade. You said it yourself - with the decorative bow you can't shoot at rock walls, so you cannot complete the game without upgrading to the compound bow.

Rai's wish has a valid point. I myself don't like the competition bow and would love to downgrade it back to the compound bow, but this is not possible anymore; after you acquire it, it becomes the default, as Rai mentioned.

Perhaps a better wording for the wish, to avoid confusion, would be:

The option to downgrade gear and to disable acquired gear upgrades.

This would also be beneficial for those who would like to make their gameplay more challenging. For example, if you acquire the armor penetrating arrows, killing enemies becomes much easier. One may regret doing that upgrade and being able to disable the upgrade at will would be very handy then :)

Heh, I guess there's just some confusion about the term "upgrade".

What I (and I assume, Rai) mean by forced upgrades is having to get new bows and being stuck with them thereafter.

You yourself didn't "manually upgrade" to the next bows, no - it was done for you as part of the game's story progression. That's the whole issue.

Thanks for the tip pidi - I never knew that was there so I'll give it a try. Alt/PrtScr works for everything else on the PC except TR, so I'd thought screenshots were disabled entirely - but I'm both lazy about digging around for new ways to do basic things and a little peevish about the cyber-geeks getting rid of basic functions that have worked fine for years.

Another thing that I'm missing from the 2013 Tomb Raider - and which is all the more notable for its absence given that it was a highly-touted feature (justifiably) of Anniversary and Underworld (and Legend?) is:

Water effects on LC's skin and clothes when she gets out of water.

'Don't know where that went or why, but in 2013 she's always miraculously dry. Oh hey, that rhymed, sorta....

36. Samantha as a playable character (only if Spoiler:gnidne 9RT morf rewop s'okimih fo emos speek mas:Spoiler) sorry, didn't know how to do spoiler tags. just read backwards
39. Having Co-op
if done in a cool way like asymetrical co-op(Ps4+vita or...WiiU :) where each person is in a different room and they work on a puzzle where one person does one thing to open up a path for the other to continue
80. A lot more puzzles.
96. Having Hi-Tech gear

My ideas:
-Make clearing a room a puzzle within itself
It was great that the combat for this game has been improved, but it just did not seem believable for one girl to take out an entire army of mercenaries head on.(even with her survivalist training). I think it would be great to have to think about how to clear a room of enemies should take a more prominent role in combat. It would make more sense for the realism aspect if she uses her skills to either take out the enemies stealthily or utilize objects in the room to take them out or cause confusion. This element would also do a lot to make the new TR unique in what it offers.

-Smart use of health packs(patch up certain body parts rather than heal overall health)
This one's a bit odd, but I think it would add some real strategy to the game. For example, if Lara injures her leg from a large fall, she can use a "health pack" specifically to make a splint for her leg and increase her reduced speed/agility. Or the player can use it to stabilize her messed up arm to regain some lost accuracy when shooting. This way the player has to make conscious choices about how to use the health packs they have. (it could also play into my previous idea for clearing enemies from a room. If you're less mobile/accurate, you'd really have to fight smarter rather than go in guns blazing)

I really hope that Camilla is the voice actress for the next game, and that Lara keeps her general look and personality from the reboot. I liked it; although it would be fun if they give her more witty lines.

One thing I love about the reboot is there was a mix of realism and supernatural. I really enjoyed the mystical storyline of Underworld, and was fascinated by that, so would like to see more dark supernatural storylines.

And please, please, please keep the bow!!!:worship:

my wishlist for next TR.
- implement correct shoulder aim/zoom (where game actually remembers shoulder you set with zoom level) MOST WISHED ON MY SIDE... also, remember how one uses weapon. if i put silencer on. don't remove it each time i switch to weapon
- keep environmental QTE, lay of the wiggling and button pressing (or at least make wiggling work well, made a thread where i pointed out the wiggling bug). there were 2 kinds of QTE events in this game. one simply forced you make play as scripted (bridge sniping, running over crushing buildings... EPIC!!!!), one required you to press button sequences (LAME!!!). both QTE methods achieve same cinematic scope
- sprinting how could you remove this from lara? it makes game to be more fluent
- back flip jump on wall scaling made climbing sequences more colorful as path was not so easy to spot
- side jumps on wall runs also made climbing not so obvious
- chance to disable marked wall run spots every wall run spot being painted white made platforming way less exploratory and challenging
- no scripted shootout start. i mean, do it once to show mechanic, next time leave decision to player. when you get lighter game always forces you to shoot oil. on hard mode it left you open to get shot in that time. same with rope shot. show it 1st time, next time... DON'T
- chance to skip obvious traps where game doesn't lock you into animation that gets you trapped
- less shooting people and more colorful enemies like animals from previous games
- bit more open world. game could simply limit some environment parts by same style it did now. no gadget, no crossing
- more than one way to get somewhere (like bridge sequence. go on the railing and soldier grabs you with QTE like it did, so why not give the chance to go under the bridge and you be the one to surprise him by stealth? if you make more ways to pass some event game will have tons of replay value). not to mention, it makes stealth approach so more viable to the game. i'll set another example from this TR... when you get ambushed in base, why not make it possible for you to ambush them? there could be some environmental puzzle where you get access to some duct that would take you on high ledge where camp fire is and use bow
- more than one singular way to sneak, as it was in this one there was always just one way for stealth
- no popping enemies that notice you so unrealistically fast like shantytown for most clear example. once you finish it, go back. go to where you talked with grim. climb rope jump over the fence and wall run. now... you can use survival instinct and there is no enemy, climb wall and as soon as your head comes over edge... tons of enemies start popping out screaming you're there.
- please, no regular enemies that require zillion hits to kill as it followed in UC2&3 after so perfect 1. harder to kill enemies don't make better game. enemies can be challenging and awesome just the same if they simply pose nice enough challenge. hard mode in TR was brilliant. 3-4 hits you die, 3-4 hits they die. i don't mind boss requiring more hits, just not regular
- remove GPS tracker from laras a$$. no matter how you escaped enemies from their view they knew exactly where your head is. kinda makes every environment like shantytown useless
- being able to use single handed weapons while climbing
- less obtrusive auto save this kinda relates to more ways to pass events. if auto save is saving during fight there is no way to take other option. i really, really hated that game sometimes saved when i accidentally had no ammo left and run into enemy. if i died i ended up with same fault all over
- no vehicles. whenever there was some vehicle run it was always made mediocre since it was completely different game and it got way less attention to detail

and... keep the rest. game was on perfect track to set new TR standard

- sprinting how could you remove this from lara? it makes game to be more fluent

That is explained in one of the podcasts actually.

Basicly it's because hallways and rooms are desinged in such a way that it takes about as much time to get from one end to the other as it takes the system to load the next area. This way they can 'hide' loading screens and keep the player emerged in the gaming world.
Inserting a sprint function would only mean that the hallways would have to be made longer so it still takes the same amount of time to get to the other end...

somebodyelse

@Jurre
ok, that makes sense. being fairly intuitive coder my self i figured that out about forced walks, tight passages with torch and movies where you got loading instead of skip in no time. didn't realize that it only loads next room though.

and reasoning is good enough for me to realize benefits. although, i kinda doubt levels like village or shantytown are loaded like that though. and those are only ones where one would benefit from running. little less detail for little more gameplay is not a bad trade.

btw. i wouldn't mind longer hallways the least. sprinting would make action parts way better and fluent. not to mention old TR where jump was different if you run or sprinted. sprinting not only works in combat it also works in normal exploration. longer hallway??? ANYTIME

@somebody
please rewrite your wishes as described in the OP. your wishes are really hard to read and unclear if its an existing wish or not.

that would be hard/impossible on 2 counts.

let's look at QTE. there is option to "keep QTE" and option to "remove QTE". if you actually read what i wrote you'll see i want both. simply because game has 2 types of QTE events.
- environmental which worked awesome. those really added thrill and movie like experience to the game
- button sequence which was kinda lame, but worst thing is that it was implemented badly. so, if not tested as they should be, i'm all for removal otherwise i don't really care

environmental QTE is every QTE where you were forced to cross something in specified time or you failed. and as much they resemble normal gameplay... those still fall under QTE events. believe it or not, the only difference between that and button pressing QTE event is the fact that environmental uses good camera placement and normal gameplay for you to pass it while button pressing invokes otherwise impossible moves.

same for open world. would i like that? no, but i would like more open stages. reason why i wouldn't like that is simple. once you start making fully open world you're bound to fail on perfect cinematic experience TR is known for. but, what i would want is more than one option how to get somewhere.

for most of things i named, there is no point in OP post to choose and to be truthful... i got headache when i read trough half of those. those are not even nearly points on how and why to make game better. if you want to make game better then make a full point... what and why

so... if you want to make game better, lara in shorts or lara with bigger breasts would do that how??? for me, 90% of the list is featureless and even worse, contradicting to it self

i apologize on this response being formed like it was, but it needs to be said. OP maybe took time to try and make decent thread, but his approach failed on all accounts. i know i might sound pretentious prick, but big part of my real life job is exactly evaluation of software solutions and how to make them better.

so, here is my advice. 1st gather enough information what people didn't like how it was implemented and why. when you get the reasons you get possible ways in which points could be fixed. next gather what was missing and why. then you need to weigh against why developers decided on that approach in 1st place.

i'll just make one example - lara sprinting ... on lot of moments game felt really sluggish, especially when you had to run across whole shantytown or forest since there was no sprinting. i didn't like that. platforming was too simple since they removed more challenging moves like sprint jump. during fights i noticed i really, really miss sprint. and developers reasoning are shorter hallways to hide loading. so... do you want longer hallways and option for lara to sprint?

forgot to write this. there were sequences where you needed to open door with pickaxe. if you didn't notice, button pressing for those was inconsistent. my guess... you needed to press till game loaded next part. so, maybe longer hallways are not only option for sprinting to return. that is why game has creative people. to find solutions like that. give them a well defined problem to chew on (defined well enough to rethink their original approach against what you wrote) and they might just surprise you. give them a list of whims and i bet it will end up in trash, especially when there are really low numbers standing behind them

X-Axis inversion for PS3

I found the game for 20€ in a store so I decided to pick it up although I was determined not to. And turns out I really wouldn't have missed anything if I didn't.

Anyway I see half of these wishes from non-regenerating health to open world to more puzzles and platforming were supposed to happen in TR2013. Really everything that makes the game seem more like a survival game not a shooter with QTEs.

Anyway anyway I see many are saying Multiplayer simply shouldn't exist. For one I think that's unlikely. For two I think MP could be a lot more than copy&paste round deathmatch. If TR was really to embrace the realistic immersive large scale tomb raiding survivor aspect, they should completely change the style of the multiplayer.

Imagine a large open map where it's easy not to see anyone else. There's vegetation, elevation differences and the maps in general are rather complex and dangerous, but without being over-the-top. The game encourages being careful and observing your environment; the falls, wild animals and passive traps quickly mean death. There are also some dynamic, but quickly solvable puzzles, and lots of locked doors that require keys. Compared to that the players are like the secondary threat, but if someone gets you in his sights before you see him you're usually dead. You can also lay traps even if it's just motion sensor grenades, but by sneaking you can get past them. The main mode is a relic hunt where there is a dynamic hidden (and I mean hidden without any magic indicators) treasure (or multiple treasures and the one getting the most wins) that you need to retrieve and get out alive. This could have solo and team (I'm thinking 2 vs 2 vs 2) variants. To emphasise the need to be careful there should be only 1 life per round or something like 30 second respawn time.

What I want to see is players calculating and thinking instead of rushing in head on like in every other multiplayer game. If you have learned that a certain door requires a key, you could either go look for it yourselves or hide somewhere and wait for someone else to open the door and then try to kill the other player, but as the levels are quite open it's possible no-one else is coming to that door. Non-regenerating health and finite ammunition is necessary. And the maps need to be dynamic with changing puzzles, changing traps, different locked doors with keys in different locations, changing treasures, changing animals and animal spawn locations and changing corpse locations with health packs and ammo. So you can never be certain how a familiar map will play out.

Lara to have better trigger discipline and correct grip when holding a handgun in the next game.

Note the 'Hollywood Grip'. The problem with this grip is that only one side of the shooter's body ends up absorbing the recoil as it essentially 'lifts' the gun out of the supporting palm also reducing accuracy. It can also lead to recoil knocking the weapon into the shooter's head. Holding a handgun 'hand over fist' is much more secure and allows for more accurate and safe shooting if firing a handgun of a higher caliber than the shooter is normally used to.

Note that in this shot her finger is on the trigger guard.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1UlSlxq5Nsc/UWXjnm8c3YI/AAAAAAAABiI/hRJNNPX59b8/s640/Lara_Croft_-_TombRaider_2013_-_torch_pistol.png

But here her finger is on the trigger. Ignoring that the slide has locked back due to an empty magazine, it's still a bad and dangerous habit to form as leaving your hand on the trigger could lead to an accidental discharge. Not a problem in video games but for aesthetics it would be nice to see in the next game.

Totally understandable in context as she is an untrained civilian thrust into a combat situation involving the use of firearms but in the next game it would be nice to see some professional gun handling - Lara is meant to be a genius after all so it's no stretch that there would be a few trips to a gun club in between games!

Yes this is my most anal post of the whole year lol.

1. Lara should be able to swim/dive under water.
4. More Tombs to explore and should take longer.
5. Keep secret tombs secret. No bells and arrows to point it out.
7. Harder Puzzles.
11. Less combat more exploring.
14. Dual pistols.
18. More outfits. [Keep it free please, they should be included in the game, not something you buy separately. And people who don't want to play with different outfits can simply ignore them and play with the main outfit all the way.]
21. Croft Manor.
23. Acrobatic moves.
40. Having no MP. Just SP.
42. More plat forming.
68. Do Swan dives.
70. Sprint system.
76. Use 'ah ha' plink for secrets throughout game.
80. A lot more puzzles.
93. Restore the 3rd-person above-Lara's-shoulder camera lock of the early TR games, at least as a toggleable option.
94. Stealth crouch button as an addition to auto-cover.
105. Having Sprint jump function.
106. The option to downgrade gear and to disable acquired gear upgrades.

If I could add some ideas, I'd say:

Don't keep Alice David as the French voice / Bring back Françoise Cadol. Alice is beautiful and she looks really nice, ok. But I don't think she is believable as Lara's voice. :hmm: Before Alice, we had the same voice actress since 1996. Everything was perfect, the French voice was a kind of trademark to Lara, in opposite to the English one which was changed all the time... :hmm: I don't know what you think was wrong with Lara's original French voice, but to me this is what Lara sounds like. You might think Françoise Cadol was too old to fit the new character, but her voice sounded right for every single Lara incarnation we saw in the past and absolutely authentic.

Lara's eyes should be brown, not pale greenish. They always were amazing the way they were. To me they are prettier in early development screenshots than in the final game, where they seem much too pale to me.

Bring back the HANDSTAND POWER! If people complain about this because they think Lara should be more "real", well, they are not obligated to perform the handstand while they play. See, everybody can be happy. You never were obligated to perform the handstand in the previous games, yet it was available for the ones who enjoyed it.

I also think Lara should have longer hair thar has the TressFX effect and I thought of a new use for the rope ascender. She can shoot enemies with the bow, and use the rope ascender to send them flying off ledges or something, and she can easily scale walls with the ascender without having to connect it with a post.

105. Having Sprint jump function. (6)

113. Bring back the HANDSTAND POWER! (1)

I really found the latest installment of the Tomb Raider franchise close to perfect as it was. My main gripe is, that it was too short and too linear. I had just played Far Cry 3 before and couldn't help noticing similarities in the scenario. Like the Japanese world war two aspect. But where in Far Cry 3 you feel free to explore everywhere as if you were on a real island, Tomb Raider feels like a theme park here and there. True, the environment looks so much more beautiful in TR, and there is more attention to detail, but it feels a bit crammed in places especially in the forrest and I wondered if it was not possible to have such rich textures on a larger scale. But that should be no problem with the next generation of consoles.
If I think of the games I love most, and the ones that got me addicted for days on end I have to namedrop Bioshock 1 and Borderlands 2 and I think what endeared me to to those games is the humor that plays a major part in the storyline and that you have a sense of how much fun the developers had at bringing the whole thing together, so I would really love TR to have a humorous aspect provided it works with the story and the atmosphere.
If that is possible I don't know. It would have been at odds in the survivor tale I guess but there have been elements of it in other TR games.
Also what I think they did really clever with Borderlands2 its that you never get enough skill points to be able to do everything at the same time so you have to decide which skill tree to concentrate on, which skills suit you best and are most appropriate for the task at hand, thus giving it a greater replay value.
That's all I can think of right now.
Thanks
d

No, vocal-minority syndrome isn't what I mean at all. I'm referring to developing in a creative vacuum - to not share or cross-reference ideas until due process on the team's initial development vision has run it's course. Anyone who's worked in development will know what I mean by that.

The team behind this reboot had a vision that was both bold, and different. The alternative ending is a prime example of that. I wanna see more of this team's vision, without the tropes of the old games forced upon them, as those tropes will only limit their creative vision and scope.

Fans, the media, and peer-review groups think with blinkers. I wanna see more from the same team that shook off their shackles to create the last game.

I mostly agree with you on the old school tropes, but you and I are not the kings of the world, and no matter what the developers will do with the results, it will be very insightful to them, and us as well, to see what the people want or expect from a TR game. Democracy is a great thing after all. As long as they keep in mind that it comes from a vocal minority.

And I don't think that adding swimming, dual guns and bigger optional puzzles will hurt the developers vision.

A dev team should never totally ignore the fans otherwise that dev team might find themselves in the unemployment line. That said I think they could add in some things like the dual pistols and swimming underwater(if there are any water levels in the next game) I mean she got her dual pistols at the end of Tomb Raider(2013) so why shouldn't she be able to keep them in a sequel?

Are you implying that the alternative ending, which was cut in the final version of TR9, was cut due to fan feedback?

1. Lara should be able to swim/dive under water.
3. Bigger HUBs to explore.
4. More Tombs to explore and should take longer.
5. Keep secret tombs secret. No bells and arrows to point it out.
7. Harder Puzzles
9. Keep QTE.
10. More stealth opportunities, like avoiding enemies/ non-lethal take downs.
14. Dual pistols.
17. Having traps.
18. More outfits.
19. More boss fights.
20. Keep it 18+ rated.
22. Having vehicles.
23. Acrobatic moves.
38. More animal enemies.
44. No white ledges.
80. A lot more puzzles.
82. Lara learn some martial arts techniques during the game.
84. More supernatural elements.
86. Better villains.
87. More mature and little bit sexier Lara.
89. No linearity at all. Even in action-packed levels you should have at least to ways of going through.

- More variety of gameplay situations. Like parachute steering and Lara as a bait for wolfs in TR9.
- Engenuity in creation of levels. Like in classic Tomb Raider games. Lots of rooms and corridors where easy to get lost.
- Challenging parkour mixed with deadly traps

1. Lara should be able to swim/dive under water.
2. Make TR open world.
4. More Tombs to explore and should take longer.
6. Different locations to explore, like Egypt, Peru, etc.
7. Harder Puzzles
8. No QTE.
10. More stealth opportunities, like avoiding enemies/ non-lethal take downs.
13. Keep the climbing axe.
14. Dual pistols.
16. Keep the gritty horror & dark lighting atmosphere.
17. Having traps.
19. More boss fights.
20. Keep it 18+ rated.
21. Croft Manor.
23. Acrobatic moves.
28. Lara’s main scars, like above her hip should be permanently on her.
37. Having side missions.
40. Having no MP. Just SP.
41. Replay chapters.
45. Keep axe-climbing.
48. Choices affect the story. Like playing lethal or non-lethal.
50. Keep Lara’s human side.
51. Keep Lara’s look as they are.
54. Keep Camilla.
56. Combining/crafting system.
66. More engaging story.
67. Better secondary characters.
70. Sprint system.
73. Lara in a dress.
76. Use 'ah ha' plink for secrets throughout game.
79. Give Lara some sharp wit humour.
84. More supernatural elements.
102. Customizable haircut, clothes and equipment.
107. Make clearing a room a puzzle within itself.
108. Smart use of health packs[patch up certain body parts rather than heal overall health]

And a few justifications:

Number 10 is the most needed in my opinion. If one considers the humanizing elements put on some of the enemies in TR9, some players would want to take them alive since they were trying to survive as ethically as Lara herself and therefore did not deserve death.

Number 28: Lara took quite a beating in TR9. It's doubtful that all of it could be fixed up.

Number 40: MP for single-player focused games dies out pretty fast. Instead, the effort for MP should be used for non-lethal takedown support instead.

Number 48: For example, if you mow down 50 museum guards when trying to steal a priceless artifact, someone should call out Lara for being completely psychotic. If said 50 guards were instead knocked out or tranq'ed, then the person should admire her ability. Or, if the person is extremely violent, then the person will compliment her lethality and dislike when she's merciful.

Number 50: Other Lara incarnations bother me a lot. They seem like people who will shoot everyone within walking distance just so they can get a particularly shiny object. Then after they get the object, there's not even a law enforcement response.

Number 51 and 54: I like this combo compared to previous Laras.

Number 56: Like the Fallout crafting system, preferably.

Number 66 and 67: Goes hand in hand. Other characters were barely in TR9. Roth was like a prototype Lara. So more char development or less characters.

Number 70: So she can climb up rocks and can make death-defying jumps, but she can't sprint? Should definitely be a feature.

Number 79: Can help a lot with Number 50.

Number 84: Aside from undead tomb people, some STALKER-like phenomenon would be cool.

Number 107: Like the Arkham games. Knock 8 guys out cold, and then the remaining 2 guys start getting scared about what Lara is going to do next when she uses the environment to her advantage.

Number 108: Much like the Fallout system. Get shot in the arm, and your aim will increasingly poor. Get shot in the leg, and movement will be harder.

4. More Tombs to explore and should take longer.
7. Harder Puzzles
9. Keep QTE. (I actually like QTE as long as there are no huge, colored buttons showing up on the screen. If the QTE wants you to "shoot", you should know what button you should press to "shoot". When the QTE wants you to go "left", just go "left". But there is no need to display all the buttons on the screen.)
12. Keeping the Bow.
15. Lara has only one pistol. (Dual pistols are way too unrealistic in my opinion. She wont hit anything with dual wielding.;))
16. Keep the gritty horror & dark lighting atmosphere.
17. Having traps.
20. Keep it 18+ rated. (As long as it fits the story. I mean, for example look at all those Narnja movies where tousands of people die and there is no blood...)
24. More background about Lara’s past.
28. Lara’s main scars, like above her hip should be permanently on her. (I think you should see it in future games what she experienced on the island)
33. Lara is in a relationship with Samantha. (Would be really interesting in my opinion. Just don't do a simple 08/15 boy-girl realationship, that would be just stupid.)
35. Samantha comes along with Lara.
40. Having no MP. Just SP. (Seriously, who needs MP? :nut:)
44. No white ledges. (Dear CrystalD, pls play more Assassin's Creed.)
50. Keep Lara’s human side.
53. Keep the gameplay mechanic.
54. Keep Camilla.
62. Keep Rhianna Pratchett.

I'm pretty sure that's not possible, because that one is pre-rendered (it took them maybe several minutes to render 1 frame). Even the CryEngine couldn't handle this. :D

But she looks so hot on this picture, I mean... just look at her hair...O_o I can't believe she's just a bunch of pixles...
Hope we will see another Trailer with that model in.

Turning Point was pre-rendered, yes, and PS4 won't even be close to be able to do something like that in real-time, but DreAnthony was just talking about the Lara model of TP, which is something different.

If it takes 1 minute to render 1 frame, a lot of processing power goes into rendering the surroundings, lighting & weather effects, etc. Rendering just 1 single character is a lot less processor intensive.

I'm sure that if done right, the PS4 will be able to make Lara's in-game model look stupendously more better than the current gen is capable of. Maybe even getting close to TP CGI Lara :)

-More realistic weapon animations (the way she loads and shoots arrows -> she's not Legolas -> better: Skyrim or Far Cry 3)

-No white ledges -> same goes for chests and ammo boxes (don't know how to phrase that...^^)

-no more rope arrows -> that's just unrealistic

-make Lara get wet/bloody/dirty in real-time (and keep her wet/bloody/dirty until she is standing in the sun for a long time/gets some bandages/cleans herself or goes swimming, ...)

-Keep Jason Graves for the Music

-Cameo of Tobuscus

107. Make clearing a room a puzzle within itself.
115. Engenuity in creation of levels. Like in classic Tomb Raider games. Lots of rooms and corridors where easy to get lost.
116. Challenging parkour mixed with deadly traps

117. Make a current-gen version available. Even if it's at the expense of some of the graphical niceties and bells & whistles the next-gen version will no doubt have.

118. New, significant characters. TR9 raised the bar for supporting characters in a TR game. New characters to surround Lara who leave as much of an impression as Jonah and Sam and Conrad and all the others who have become fan favorites from TR9, who can continue to affect Lara as a character and guide her arc.

119. More intricate story. TR9 was mainly a character piece to explore the origins of the rebooted Lara. Now that that's taken care of, continue to explore the character while having a more plot-based adventure, with twists and intriguing characters and globe-trotting.

I highlighted in red my most wanted wishes.

1. New scriptwriter, didn't get to the end of the op list but i'm not a fan of Rhiannas work. Sorry not sorry.
2. Make Lara still have some form of vocal interaction with enemies, I liked that :3
3. Keep Lara's no-gloves. I liked her bare-hands too.
4. Give us a boss fight that isnt similar to Natlas in TR:A. The "boss" we were given in the latest TR had a vulnerable back just like Natla.
5. Bring back her Motorbike! *-*
6. No sexual tension between any future characters and Lara. >:I
7. More snowy climates! ^3^
8. Bring back the swan dive.
9. No croft manor, but a sort of home that we can explore, since Lara didn't accept her riches.
10. Keeley Hawes should make a comeback. (is that her name? heh.)
11. Give more extraaaass! Concept art/videos. aanything that is an extra T-T
12. Bring her headset back, i like her occasional chit-chat with a friendly voice :3
13. Make her laugh more, she never looks happy n_n
14. Keep her earrings, they're too cute.
15. Make the cutscenes blend better, they took a while to load for me after so many
16. Bring back her Grapple
17. Take us back to Thailand - not the exact place, but somewhere in Thailand
18. An easier map, I never liked the maps on any TR. >.>
19. Better hair pls. again, sorry not sorry.
20. Maybe have her talk about what happened to the others after Yamatai? :3

That's all :'3

The ponytail is cute don't get me wrong but I'd like to see her with something different considering we're so used to it, but it's not a main wish, her hair doesn't concern me too much unless it's glitching; and yeaah, when she hung upside down it cut through her head a little bit. :c

My biggest wish is that the next game has southpaw control stick configuration. If I didn't happen to buy the 360 version (which I was very close to getting the PS3 version) and didn't happen to already own a permamodded 360 controller this game wouldn't even be on my best of the generation list. If next gen they don't have those control options and I don't happen to find another pricey southpaw solution I will be out of luck which is a shame cuz I loved TR 2013 so dearly.

And if you think that's whiny or tell me to "adapt" try playing through the game with the controller upside down in your hand. Sure the game is still high quality, but it's nowhere near as intuitive or personally as fun, is it? Exactly.

Don't forget about the other 10% this time!

I haven't tried the game on PC myself, but I'm sure with enough fiddling you can get it to work with Tridef 3D. Tridef is great; I've been play Underworld in 3D and it adds so much to the game it's unbelievable.
