View Full Version : Reused Sound?

Hi all! So, I don't know if you know this, but the Wilhelm scream is in DX:HR. To be specific, it's when you visit Hengsha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9d-TCHhyaY), and everyone's implants glitch up.
As you SHOULD know, the Wilhelm scream is used in a lot of movies/games/shows as a sort of homage to the original.

However, I've been (re)watching an anime called Code Geass, and I've noticed that a sound played while certain electronics are being used is very similar to the Open Email sound in HR.
It's worth noting that Code Geass was done from 2006-2008.
For a comparison, skip to 3:50 here (http://www.animefreak.tv/anime-watch/code-geass-lelouch-rebellion-r2-episode-10#English) and listen when the character's display zooms in. This sound has been heard several times before in this one anime.
The email sound from DX:HR can be heard here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36728584/Open%20Email.mp3.

I'm wondering if it's a stock sound or an original sound created by Eidos.

It's the same sound and I believe it's a stock sound. There are a gazillion and one sample cd's/loop collections/foley and sound fx collections in the world so tracking this down would be impossible to do unless you spoke directly with the audio branch of Eidos and they let you know where they got it from (or the makers of Code Geass if you want to go that route.)

There are a zillion different stock sounds. I can't tell you how many things I've heard the generic alarm sound from Perfect Dark in other things.

There's also a System Shock scream in the Detroit alleys, if I'm not mistaken. Took that to be a tribute, though.
