View Full Version : No takedowns, alarms, kills, hud, aug activation/upgrading, etc. Run possible?

So I've seen a bit of a "no takedowns" etc. run.

But I'm not sure if that included no augs/upgrading/using. And going even more hardcore perhaps add a "no stealing from anyone" (unless it's a credit chip placed outside in a box or something?) but that might be a bit extreme.

Anyway basically is it possible to do a "naked run", I'm thinking in the lines of the Naked Alucard runs from Symphony Of The Night http://bit.ly/T4F1aS which is something extreme that I loved back in the days.

If this is possible I'm considering throwing in a "No Hud" (from debug), and "No Regenerating health" into the mix as well.

Why don't you give it a try and tell us?

I don't know if it will be fun, but it should be possible. You will pick up the weapons in the boss rooms, but you should be able to get along with nothing everywhere else.

Yeah, good luck with yelena and namir.

Definitely do-able, even without aug upgrade, but will take away from the game experience. But if that's what you want to do, then have at it. All the bosses can be beat easily even on the hardest difficulty even if you choose to go through the game without upgrades. Namir can just be beat with just Jensen's knockout or kill ability and Yelena can beat with just frag grenades. Same as Barret, you can beat him with just frag. With the last boss at Hyron, there is an easy way to beat Zhao in about 20 sec without having to hack the computers, turn off the turret or even don't have to hack or enter the code on panel. Yes.. I said 20 sec.. That was all it took to beat the last boss. That is what so cool about this game, it let you play how you want and let you figure out different ways and strategies of doing things and completing things. It can be hair pulling and frustratingly hard or you can find ways of making it just too easy.. Still, any way is totally fun.

Yep, this run is possible, I had done it a while back: http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=126812

Most of the game is pretty straightforward. Actually, sneaking past everyone without takedowns is the easiest way to beat it: it should take an expert player 2-3 hours. The main problem is, of course, the bosses. They were designed to be engaged in combat and they can't be skipped, so you'll have to do some pretty unconventional (and boring) stuff to get past them -- namely, to throw crates at them for 10-20 minutes, depending on boss.

About additional restrictions: if you know how AI works then you don't need the radar, so playing with no HUD won't change much. "No regen" rule is not worth it IMO -- again, because of the bosses. They're already annoying to deal with and trying to beat them with 0 damage would be a waste of time. Although you can get through the rest of the game easily without losing a single point of health.

The real question is, can you beat all the bosses without weapons? Barret can be beaten by throwing explosive barrels. Namir you can take with you staff in the elevetor, and probably can be beaten by explosive barrels. I have my doubts about Yelena.

Pretty ssure there was a video on here of someone killing her by throwing a box at her many, many, many, many times.

Here are how you can beat all the bosses without any damage to Jensen or using Typhoon. Of course Typhoon is the easiest and quickest way, but if you're doing a no-aug run. here are how:

Beat Barret: 4 x frag grenades or 2 x frag with 2 x rocket launcher rounds will take out barret. (Make sure you grab the rocket launcher at the first room after getting off the first elevator if you want to use the launcher, but not needed.) Take cover right away on the cement block in front of you, if just frag, throw the first frag, then the next and 3 and 4, that will do it. or throw frag, then rocket, the, frag, then rocket again. About 20-30 sec to beat him. Barret will be stunned in between each hit. He will never have a chance to hit you.

Beat Yelena: Just make sure you have the EMP gun and 4 frag should do it. She gets off too quick from being stunned by the frag hit or EMP hit to use any other weapon after (if you want no hit to Jensen.) Hit her with the EMP as she charge at you, then frag her and keep fragging her. Again about 4 frag grenades will take her out. If you do other way, you won't have enough time to reload using weapon to avoid getting hit by her. Stun her with EMP or stun gun (I prefer EMP), then frag her 4 times and you won't get hit.

Namir: At the start of the fight as he starts to kick up his weapon, run off to the left and down to the left side of the wall opposite of him. You can see him on the other side of the wall and he should do his quick cloaking, but will de-cloak and jump up over the wall to you. He may also not de-clock. Just wait for him to scale over the wall to you, and then do your knock-out or kill ability as he is coming over the wall. That will do. One punch or one kill win over Namir without damage to you. Just be aware, he may not jump over the wall right away. If he doesn't jump right away and moves around, just keep eyes on him and stay on the opposite side of the wall from him and he will jump sooner or later.

Beat Zhao at Hyron: Easiest and quickest is grabbing the Laser gun from Tong's room in his hideout mission. Grab a couple 500 batteries along the way just in case and save it for that fight. When the fight starts, there are two block/covers in front of Zhao on either side of her, quickly make your way to one of the block/cover and take cover. You don't even have to sneak out or around the cover, just use the aim of the laser and pour it on to Zhao while she is hanging up there. About 20 sec of blasting her with the laser.. that is it. You don't have to put in the code to the panel for the initial de-activation sequence or have to hack the computers. 20-30 sec of laser blast at her, you win, no damage to you or Jensen. Robot will not be out or anything else. Too easy. You can punch in the code to hack panel and still laser her, but no need to use the hack panel.

Panopticon, you gotten me intriqued, well.. curious more that anything and gave it a run. No upgrade, no takedown, all ghost.. Done! Very challenging and interesting. Not likely I'd do that again. Just did it to say I did it. Kinda like taking the 68 Charger through tight cones safe driving course without power steering. Doable, but rough. Pretty much old school like navigating without GPS and just using paper map without asking for direction. You got no choice but to go the scenic route, no shortcut because you can't hack (only those mandatory), can't jump higher, lift heavy or punch wall.. so, you're pretty much making your way through gauntlet of ambush after ambush and have make it through without detection. So yeah, doable, but not quite smooth. Had to sacrifice poor Malik to avoid detection in Hengsha 2. If you haven't done it yet, prepare to spend quite a few hours into it, won't be 2-3.. Definitely Panchea was the hardest. Took me awhile to figure out how to get the two crazies stationary at the entrance of the stair, after meeting with Sarif, to get out of the way. That is the only way you can go to get back to the elevator, without detection. No spoiler.. I'll let those venturous enough to take on your crazy challenge to figure it out. Words of encouragement are thinking back it was easy to get them out of the stairwell once I figured it out. Have fun..

Gyron, I took a look on your absolute zero run video on your other thread.. pretty impressive run you did. The only thing I'm against is getting an alarm such as when you trick them or sprint past them. They get alarmed cause they see you.. so how can you still get Ghost, even though you can cause they're not hostile. I like the trick of throwing stuff so they look away and you rush by. Now, that works cause they didn't see you. Still good run. Btw, I'm sure you probably already know this, you can get ghost on the hangar at the end of TYM by taking out the robots and still being undetectable. You can also "easily" take out all the belltower guys w/o being seen and get ghost on the ambush after meeting Zhao and before the hangar. TYM is a fun mission.

But, I think getting no alarm (on your own accord), being undetected throughout all missions/side missions and getting all ghost to include the Hengsha ambush site w/o any upgrade (no hacking above given level 1 hack panel) and no enemy take down minus bosses make another unique DX experience. But that was just a one hit wonder. I enjoy Jensen's upgrades and aug too much, especially cloaking and his take down/ kill options.

You don't need to be 100% invisible or silent to earn Ghost -- you can see the criteria here (http://deusex.wikia.com/wiki/Ghost). Besides there are already enough No aug/Ghost runs where authors play very carefully and slowly, so I decided to go for something more aggressive and technically difficult. Being completely undetected (if that's what you want) isn't that hard and requires only patience.

I'm tracking. Either way, you had a pretty sweet run for absolute zero. It was just another interesting way of going through the game with alot of good tips to do things for regular game play. Another kudos for you is your time and effort into putting that video together.
