Hi all,

I've decide to try making my own PS3 themes, my first one being a DX: HR-themed one. This being my first theme I would like some feedback as to how it looks.

UPDATE: I'm going to give this another go when I have time so I'll start off with getting some new wallpapers done.

Old request (no longer needed)
I have looked at the theme myself and my biggest concern is the wallpapers: I have resized and made some wallpapers but parts of them are cut off when I use the theme. The PS3 wallpapers should be 1920x1080 when making the theme but those dimension may not be right. If any PS3 users could take a look at them that would be appreciated.

Here are some wallpapers:
Glass (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/ex3Th.jpg)
Comic (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/EIy2d.jpg)
Ready (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/csJry.jpg)
Two Sides (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/sK0NX.jpg)
Hole in the Wall (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/v7Vih.jpg)
(Anyone can download the wallpapers if they'd want to but are changed with PS3 users in mind.)

You can download it from here (with old wallpapers - they don't work and one doesn't look nice): http://stellazira.deviantart.com/art/DeusEx-HumanRevolution-earlyversion-284459897

You will have to extract the file, then put it on a USB storage device. You then have to make a folder called "PS3" and inside it a "THEME" folder. Put the theme file inside this folder. Then take the USB device to your PS3, then go to [Settings] > [Theme Settings] > Install. Your storage device should appear and the theme.

Let me know what you think. :D

I hope to make changes and release a better version with all the tweaks.

EDIT1: fixed fourth wallpaper
EDIT2: slight overhaul of thread and update

I like it, but you could be a little more adventurous and create Deus Ex themed icons. Even so, I've downloaded it for later.

After I started playing with the backgrounds I realized the icons were a bit dull... so I'm asking for ideas for what to do with them. If I'm going to make 70 or so new icons I'd like to pick a few ideas and work with them.

There are a number of wallpapers included but not all of them will fit together. Depending on what happens to the icons I'll add/remove/change certain wallpapers.

Well, I think I've found my wallpaper problem. The images are 1920x1080, but our TV was showing 1840x1035. I've taken this into account when making new wallpapers so hopefully nothing will get cut off.

I've also decided I'll use these three wallpapers for the theme:

http://i.imgur.com/sK0NX.jpg
(I really like the wallpapers Eidos! Thanks for the goodies on the website! :D)

I'm still trying to decide what to do for the icons though. I'm working on a box to go around the main XMB icons, then I'll have to change all the colouring for all of the icons. Still undecided there so it'll be a little longer.

EDIT:
Needs more... something.

Need to think for a bit more.

Maybe making them glossier, or giving it a glass effect would give it something 'more'.

Maybe boxes like that could work for some of the icons?

Or recreate the hacking icons...

Just some suggestions. There's inspiration everywhere really.

 Using hacking and/or augmentation icons would be interesting. I'm not sure if there are enough icons though and it's be stretching to try fitting some of them into the settings. I'd prefer to use the "original" icons and change them because then at least I'd know that I'd have an icon for every option and it fits what it's representing.

I would also like to not go too overboard because by the time the theme is on the PS3 some of the finer details may not be visible. Maybe a golden-glassy thing could work - I like that idea actually. :)

Midterms right now, trying to figure out glass. :p I have free time next week and plan to do some more then.

Glass is a bit tough, but a glass "coating" shouldn't be too hard. I don't think it's possible to accurately replicate the Human Revolution glass (the stuff in your signature background) but there are a few tutorials on the internet.

So, um, I was going to work on this and then life interrupted. I still want to get it done but I've had other things to worry about.

I haven't forgotten about this, but I don't know when I'll get to working on it again. I DO want to finish it. It's just going to be longer than I expected.

I really hope this comes through, it'll be a lot better than the half-***ed jobs of wallpapers and tinted icons that you usually get.

Props to you ^^

I think the reason there are a lot of "unimaginative" themes on the PS Store is that you could use a template of icons that Sony gives you... or you could make every single one of those icons yourself. If I were a developer and wanted to makes some quick money on themes I'd just use the standard icons and just change the way they look. I don't know what developers receive from Sony when they make official themes but from what I've found out from the official (and outdated, 2008 I think) PS3 theme creator and searching the Interwebz you can take an easy route or a very hard route.

While trying to get rid of a PSN card I won I bought a theme just to see if I got something more for actually giving money up and the icons are really simple. I am no Photoshop super-whiz but if I had those images I could be making the exact same icons and wallpaper. It appears to really be up to who makes the themes and how much effort they want to put into it. My thoughts, anyway.

I kind of like the icons from my experimental theme so I think I'll just change a wallpaper some so it fits and make one theme, then with the other three (? it's been a while) wallpapers I have make some different icons. So now I've decided that I want to make two themes.

Oh dear. Maybe I should head off to bed before I get anymore silly ideas. :p

I am getting back into this... slowly. I have some ideas but they're not working the way I would like them to. It's going to take me a while to ease back into Photoshopping again.

I've made a new wallpaper which should display properly on the PS3:
Glass (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/ex3Th.jpg)

Older ones that should display properly too:
Comic (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/EIy2d.jpg)
Ready (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/csJry.jpg)
Two Sides (1920x1080) (http://i.imgur.com/sK0NX.jpg)

I'll put all of them in the OP.
