Especially when considering how cold Reed's reaction was when you found her. Even before I found out she was kidnapped I thought Malik was a good fit for Jensen.

They could have done it like Mass Effect, where it's a choice to get romantically involved with someone near the end of the game.

But I guess they didn't want an all-too-cliché story. If so, I respect that.

I can't say the romances are particularly deep in Mass Effect but I enjoyed them nonetheless. And honestly in the first you see an ass and a sideboob at best. In the second, you don't see a damn thing. Hardly 'pervy'. And Mass Effect does not suck alien balls =(

I think Jensen and Malik definitely had chemistry, but I'm glad they didn't go there.

Maybe if they make another "prequel" DX with Jensen as the protagonist they could delve into that, but it might be a little too much like Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors from Star Wars: Dark Forces. And, there might be too much temptation to set up another "Save MAlik!!1!1!1lawnmower" scenario, or kill her off w/o letting Jensen have a chance to save her.

Either way, it might come off as too cliché.

I think Faridah would have been better GF material than Megan, but even then, I'd rather ingame romance bull**** was kept out of Deus Ex. forever.

Gee, thanks Bioware.

Ummmm... yeah, it does. ME1, anyway.

I don't have an opinion on ME2, since I didn't bother with it.

To me it "felt" like a Mulder-Scully relationship. Especially if you fail to rescue Malik at your second visit to Heng-Sha.

I agree, I still think she swings that way.

No way, she's definitely pretty sweet on Adam. She might be bi, but there's no way she's fully "that way inclined."

The voice actress did a really good job with her character.

Romance scenes. Aren't deep. Lololololol.

Anyway. I loved Malik, she was much better than Megan.

Megan was a ***** for sure. She did try telling Adam in the elevator before the attack, though, that she used his DNA...I'm guessing anyway.

I was really mad when she died. I wanted revenge. That's a sign if a good game.

Yeah, as frustrating as it can be in the moment I think it's often best to leave things a little ambiguous. Do you read romantic interest into the way Malik and Jensen converse? That works. Come to the conclusion that she's into girls and that her and Jensen are just partners in ass-kicking? Cool. Think Jensen would rather drink 'til his robot heart stops before he'd ever trust another woman? Throw on some Morrissey and enjoy (or don't).

Here here.

I really do dislike whenever there is a definite 'you can romance' someone in a game feature. I hate how romance can be shoe-horned in to movies and games as it is normally not executed well (or believably); this is especially the case in games.

We barely knew that much about Malik, yet people already want to make Jensen hook up with her? Seems like a desperate stretch in storytelling for me.

Instead lets work on that storyline and keep people coming to these games for the right reasons instead of having people coming into it wanting a dating simulator.

Japan has plenty of those.

Because everyone knows that an RPG is measured by how many wish fulfillment-driven, stereotypical, idealised nerd-bait love interest characters it has.

I mean, we're already into alien sex in Mass Effect, and furry sex if you count Elder Scrolls mods as canon (and I do, considering that seems to be the only reason those games exist). Why not move into amputee/augmentation porn as well?

Right after clearing out the Sarif warehouse and taking care of Zeke, her conversation strongly seemed to hint at a romance down the line. Then again I would bet the conversation goes differently if you don't rescue the hostages.

I got the feeling that Malik is sweet on Jensen, and could "go there" in terms of a relationship, but also keep in mind where the characters are.

Jensen just woke up from his coma and is still holding a candle for Megan. And I believe Malik sees this and so i feel that she would keep her distance out of respect.

However I think after the Story, assuming Jensen got out of Panchea, i think once Jensen got home to tell the story, I believe it would set up a "Strange Days" kind of scenario.

Any one remember the end of that movie, were Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes ) after chasing his ex, holding onto old memories but finnaly realizes she is a different person and doesnt love him anymore, figures out that the one person who has loved him through all this, but kept distance because of the emotions Lenny was going through was Angela Bassett's character

Well, i hated how Megan Reed was first forced onto us (pre existing relationship that has already ended, fine, having our character obsess about it when we don't care about the character being obsessed about, not so much).
And agree that romance really is not one of the big themes in Deus Ex.
But i could not help but feel like there was potential for something between Adam and Jensen, even more so afrer/if you save her ass from Belltower, and would not have minded if it had been explored, either as a minor plot point, non plot critical banter over the radio, or maybe through some sidequests.

Ofcourse, that just might be all the Bioware RPG's talking, and as Malik is one of the more relatable characters in the game full of caricatures (Sure, Malik is not a character we get to explore deeply, but with her constant presence, few non story discussion and her sidequest, she is one of the more developed characters, and more likeable as well, in DX:HR), it might be just easy to latch onto her.

I'm glad there was no romance in the game. Adam would have killed Faridah with his mighty robot boner anyway, so it probably wouldn't have been worth it.

More seriously, I was disappointed there wasn't a way for Adam to give Malik a proper burial. I wouldn't want to leave my dead friend in filthy operating room to be carved up by harvesters, but Jensen didn't seem to care at all. He is even happy to share a joke with Tong in the next room. This is one example of choice and consequence in the game which I didn't think was very effective.

The Witcher was the worst offender in this area than any other game I've played. You even get trading card versions of women after Geralt sleeps with them. Come on.

The Persona games are pretty bad; once you play one girl's romance to "completion" you can go start up a romance with another girl without consequence. I don't think love stories in video games have to be bad, but they almost always are.

Makes me wonder if they were sleeping with him because they each needed a Geralt card to complete their sets.

Guess we may have to rescue her in the next game, 'if' she was captured when Megan met "you know who" at the end.

I did, I'd saved her every other time but I was just curious as to what would happen so I legged it straight to the elevator. Then I watched the scene, felt bad, reloaded and killed everyone :D

If you think Mass Effect sucked alien balls, you clearly need to get your brain checked:lol:

You know you can save her....right?

I agree, i wanted Jensen and Malik to be together. Malik really liked him from the start, and it could've been a meaningful story as well, i mean she was always there for her and Jensen trying to protect her and in the saves her life and after that they both get together starting a new life. I really wanted that, and they look good together too, considering the fact that Malik looks way better than Megan

Off game... Someone mention Mass Effect so this other game pops my mind...

My favorite game romance was in Baldur's Gate II.
With Aerie the wingless fairy.
([b]SPOILERS[b/]

Before finding her I was the typical choose positive actions when my party member talks to me.
It happens I got another girl in the party and without realizing the things I gave her means a romantic gesture... But I was not interested in her, she was my part one friend who now lost her husband in part 2.

Then I met aerie as a slave in a circus. I freed her, pursue her in a relationship and learn more of her past but later the first girl start complaining about my attention to her... I was confused, lol

Since when did I start a relationship with the first one???
They both argue with me and I chose Aerie.
When nearly finishing the game the relationship went till we even had a baby O.O
That never happen in games before and turns out only she in the game can get pregnant...

So we were together till the end of the game. :)

Anyway back to Malik, forgot what was my first result....
Did I save her or failed and reload...

But when I do failed eventually in a play through it was sad...
:(
