View Full Version : Not to be a perv...but the women have no crotches.

It seems that the models for the woman in short skirts...which I couldn't help noticing, since I'm always running around crouched and crap (and I'm a red-blooded male heterosexual), are some of the most poorly jointed figures I've ever seen. Almost laughable.

Seriously. Their legs end at their thighs and it looks so weird when they're sitting down or on a railing above you...the legs actually are just chopped off and look like total crap. You can even see leg bits coming through the material in weird ways.

It's weird because HR is so good at immersion, the world feels absolutely real and you can see the real attention to detail put into the environments...it just sorta throw me for a loop when I look over at somebody and their body is missing it's crotch. Did they not finish the models? LOL.

It's an old modeling trick to not waste polys. In a detail/clutter oriented game, some things sometimes get sacrificed. I've a fair share of games where people are crotchless when wearing long garments.

Yep, they basically only added actual texture meshes to body parts that would show ( head, arms/hands, lower legs/feet ) everything in between is meshless rigging. I have a feeling it wasn't just to save time/resources, but also to prevent things like "nude" mods.

In realtime applications like games, you never model stuff that isn't supposed to be seen. It saves vertex data and texture resolution, that can be spent for more important stuff.

Some devs however go the extra mile and model and texture things that aren't even seen in game. Many games featured nude models and textures (Oblivion for example) under the clothes. The first Half-Life had the contents of the G-Man's briefcase modeled and included in the game files dozens of extra monsters and characters complete with finished animations and attacks, and the series even includes textures for things such as the inside of clothes that are never seen.

But are they used in the game? All that matters for performance is whats going on on the screen...unused monsters and textures in the in game files don't matter anything.

And using Bethesda games as shining example for performance is not the best idea...I mean...they had tufts of grass with 28 polygons in Oblivion, where 4 polygons would have sufficed...that is not going the extra mile, it is being stupid and lazy.

Sacrificing the crotch is a real bad decision ;)

Another thing. Every single women in the game has massive uniform size boobs. Would have been great to see some variety, of course there are other means for that. If I was a girl playing this and not equipped like this, I would feel overwhelmed :D

Not just uniform size, uniform wrong-looking shape...

Didn't you guys read the memo-pad in the bathroom? In 2027 aliens have replaced all the women in the world and are trying interbreed with humans!

It's due to the increasingly popular breast augmentation.

Male 'Enhancement' in 2027, Deus Ex style...? :hmm:

it's a known fact among anyone who isn't an apologist, denier or fanboi, that the models in this game are complete crap.

I don't have an issue with the models, so I guess in your universe I'm one of those things.

Then again I never tried to look up anyone's skirt. Maybe I should give it a shot and report back.

I would love to interview the guy who was tasked with making realistic crotches on female characters with short dresses on just to see what he has to say about it. Well, in the hypothetical world where it did happen.

This really sucks cus I could really use a nude patch for the hot sleeping chick with the Angelina Jolie lips in tight black leather inside an apartment near Brian's place. Aww heck with it, it's still good for a boob shot.

When I went to the hookers in the police station and one said she'd show me a good time if I got her out, I won't lie, I looked for a security computer.

With soo much free porn on the internet, why is this even an issue?, unless your fetish is specifically to get your rocks off to a virtual avatar in a game scenario :D

You can find one in an office which is in front of that cell. I didn't try to hack it yet. Would you kindly try to hack it and report back?

The graphic engine used is simply not just out dated it's also far behind the current technology.
They should have used and adapted a good 3d engine instead of sitting on their in-house engine.

I mean honestly: NO MIRRORS ??
No reflections of models at all to be more exact ..
Also could you ever see yourself in one of the cameras like in original DX (10 years ago!)?

So the missing parts of the models is just another example on how close to the performance edge the graphic engine already is.

They should have licensed the Unreal technology engine, the whole development would have been easier and we'd have amazing visuals on top of it.
(Not that I care too much about the visuals but after all we hope modders to work on the engine in the next years, eh ?)

It's okay, you do. It's a valid point...it reminds me that I'm playing a game...and ruins immersion. Stuff like that does, and I don't mean just empty, vacant crotches. It's like being in a game and the hitting that unseen, invisible wall, it just sorta pulls you outta the world.

So far Deus Ex has been brilliant...the environments are varied and beautiful, and the hard limits are usually not noticeable. But when every model in a short skirt has a gaping hole where her crotch should be, and I happen to be sneaking by, it's one thing that just bugs me.

Sorry if it makes you feel like forums are a waste of time. I didn't realize my post was going to have that great of an effect on anyone.

By the way this was extremely noticeable as I just hit the protesters burning Detroit part...I'm talking to two cops, look down and there's a chick sitting on her azz with the other hostages and she has a huge blank spot. It's creepy to be honest. O_o
