View Full Version : Unable to adjust FOV when using Eyefinity

I'm currently running a 5770 to power 3 24" monitors (1080p) and am unable to adjust the FOV setting when I use my eyefinity setup. This is problematic as 75 FOV creates an insane fish lens effect on my two outside monitors. I had a similar problem with HalfLife 2 initially, but adjusting the FOV fixed that issue.

Is there a way I can force a certain FOV via editing a config file or something? Is there another known workaround for this issue?

Thanks for any help.

Anyone? Any help? Am I the only one experiencing this?

This is not the game's fault entirely but just a symptom of the way 3d is done. You can still see this edge stretch occur with lower aspect ratios, just not as visibly.

Only games that render 3 distinct viewports get around this, but I've not seen many of those.

You're right that lowering your FOV can reduce the visible stretching on the outsides, but it also will end up cropping your vertical FOV and zoom things in so much as to make it feel nauseating.

I too am having the same exact problem,.. I have 3 exact displays (Asus VH242H) set at 1920x1080 60Hz connected to a 6950 (DVI, HDMI and DP). When playing in Eyefinity (Grouped SLS) at 5760x1080 the FOV setting is unable to be adjusted (RED). IF I disable the Eyefinity group and play at native 1920x1080 the FOV setting is enabled. From there I can adjust the FOV but if I re-enable Eyefinity .. POOF the FOV setting is no longer available. I have tried just about everything, DX11 On/Off, Aspect ration etc..

BTW, here's a thread at WSGF (Wide Screen Gaming) that details DE:HR with Eyefinity and different FOV and aspect ratios

Win7 Pro
1st try (10.5 drivers/cap) - No FOV adjustment
2nd try (11.6 drivers) - No FOV adjustment
3rd try (11.8 drivers) - FOV Adjustment !!!! Yeah..

Win 7 Ult x64 install..

11.8 drivers/CAP1 - No FOV adjustment
11.8 drivers/CAP2 - No FOV adjustment

I must report the same here. FOV is not adjustable running at 5040x1050 eyefinity.

Default FOV is okay, but not great.

Also using 11.8 cap2

Also in Win7 64

Ok, interesting observation...

IF under Video > Resolution it shows (for example for 1920x1080) "5760x1080 (Eyefinity)" then FOV does NOT work and the HUD is on the center display, as it is supposed to... HOWEVER, if under Resolutions is shows "5760x1080" without the "(Eyefinity)" then FOV DOES work however HUD is then spread across all 3 displays. Under ATI CCC (Open ATI CCC, Desktop Managment then Desktop Properties) I was able to set the desktop resolution to 5760x1080 under Grouped, however under Basic it should show 5760x1080 unless you used Bezel Compensation.

again open up ATI CCC (right click desktop) open Catalyst Control Panel, then Desktop Managment > Desktop Properties page. Look under Settings: for Desktop Area. You should have 4 sections.. Basic, HDTV, Grouped and Bezel Compensated.

@ @md_Guy

I thought I could perhaps trick the system, by setting it to bez-comp resolutions, while actually not adjusting the bez-comp at all. I was able to register it in CCC as a bez-comp resolution, while it was still 5040x1050, but it still wont let me use FOV option :(

When you select the in game resolution (under Video) do you see "5040x1050 (Eyefinity)" or "5040x1050" ? .. notice there is NO (Eyefinity). Try and actually adjust the Bezel Compensation then again go to Resolution and look for one after 5040x1050 (Eyefinity) .. might be along the lings of 5104x1050 .. again NO (Eyefinity) on the end.

real quick like...

Before using Bezel Compensation (FOV adjustment NOT working)

After using Bezel Compensation (FOV adjustment working)

No... that does not work for me :(

However, you found that FOV works on 11.8 (not cap1&2) drivers right? So I assume it's like the way a previous ccc update ruined the UI on shogun 2. This time ccc update runined FOV in DEHR.

---EDIT---

I have got the word out on the WSGF detailed report for DEHR, which is a forum that links directly to their ratings.

Also, made a post on steam forums.

Maybe I'll go post something on the Hard forums too.

Something tells me the more I get this info out the faster it gets fixed.

I have no problem setting the FOV, but that is because I can't get the game to reconnize my Eyefinity setup. The triple monitor, bezel adjusted resolution I use is available in the game setup/options but it doesn't list it as Eyefinity. Thus the HUD won't display on the center monitor but I can adjust FOV to my heart's content. The HUD only centers whenever I die.

I think it might have something to do with Crossfire as I use a 5970.

Yep, it seems to be around the issue of keeping the Eyefinity's high resolution (for example 5760x1080) but "tricking" the client into thinking it's a "normal" display .. basically making DE:HR think it's just one big monitor as opposed to it being an Eyefinity setup. The problem being that in an "properly configured" Eyefinity setup the HUD is centered but FOV doesn't seem to be adjustable.

I have a dual boot setup and neither allow the FOV to be adjusted with an "(Eyefinity)" recognized resolution, however in one (Win 7 x64 Pro) I am able to use Bezel Compensation to create a single layer surface that makes DE:HR allow FOV adjustment, again HUD is spread across all 3 displays because (I think) the game thinks it's just one crazy big display. I am NOT using Crossfire at the moment though the Win 7 x64 Ultimate setup does have the 11.8 Cap 2 installed.

heres some shots using the Win 7 x64 Pro setup:

@md_guy

Good testing. Your observation is in keeping with the fact that the game works fine in "non eyefinity" resolutions.

This pretty much seems to place the blame squarely on the fact that the game sees the eyefinity resolution and says "no FOV for you".

However it sees anything else, displays the resolution and gives FOV options, but fails to format the HUD correctly.

Thales100 from WSGF tried editing the registry, where you can find an FOV option, however it does nothing for eyefinity. A good try however.

A patch will be required.

Tried the registry edit from WSGF and still not working, game is still at default when using any resolution that has (Eyefinity)... heres hoping it can be addressed via a game patch/update.

WHy do you want to adjust the FOV with eyefinity anyhow? It looks like it's about perfect 135 deg.

Same thing here. There is noway to use .ini config file to change the FOV ?

Hope Eidos gonna fix that.

I have to disagree with your comment (granted FOV beauty is in the eye of the beholder.)

The games default eyefininty FOV is 75, which even on three monitors is pretty "squished" in. 90 degrees would be better.

I took a bunch of screen shots to figure this out.

I play with 90FOV on EyeFinity (my center HUD doesn't work anyway...) and it's a lot nicer than 75. Eyefinity support is totally gimped, if they just released INI settings for things like FOV or center hud we wouldn't be complaining about this.

Let's face it, pretty much everyone who uses EyeFinity knows how to edit INI settings anyway. What do we need this fancy "auto detection" for that actually breaks for some of us?

Yep I have to agree, at the default setting (75?) I feel as though my face is smashed up against "the screen" with very little peripheral "feeling". It's as though I am being forced to run around with my head in a box, almost as if my face would be so close to the center screen that I can't see the outer 2 (left/right) screens. When moving to 90-95 in combination of wide screen (Surround/Eyefinity/TH2G/SoftTH) I really get that sense of being able to "see" on the peripheral edge, which to me is the whole idea of gaming on Eyefinity (etc).

Game's completely unplayable at default FOV in EyeFinity. I tried using bezel compensation and the game still thinks it's in eyefinity. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

So ATI users are screwed cause they get crappy FOV, Nvidia users are screwed due to not getting center HUD. Personally I would prefer to be in the second camp, but screwed is screwed.
