Summary of FAQs/Information

MB AsRock X99 Extreme 4
CPU Intel i7 5960X
Ram 64 GB
GPU Titan Z
G force Driver 347.52
Win 7 Pro

This advice is Mostly for ASROCK Motherboard users but it wouldn’t hurt to check your manufacturer for BETA drivers or patches if you use another brand.

I was getting blue screened every time I tried to start Deus Ex HRDC. I tried every suggestion I found on Steam and on the Dev’s web page and could not get past the BSOD. I checked AsRock for a newer BIOS and confirmed I had the latest but then I dug further and found this BETA BIOS for AMD 295 GPUs.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Extreme4/?cat=Beta

Even though I use a duel GPU card from nVidia, I figured I would back up my BIOS settings and take a chance on this BETA version 1.72

Well I’ll be damned… The thing worked! Game booted right up after flashing my BIOS from a USB pen drive.

I hope this helps someone.

Bought Deus Ex HR at weekend and each time I try to launch it crashes and completely locks my computer so I have to manually reset. (Which isn't healthy!)
I've updated all my drivers and tried the dll to bak fix.
Still kills my comp. I've posted my dxdiag, any help would be appreciated! :)

Hi Doyaldinho,
This sounds quite a bit like a known problem with many motherboards used with AMD FX chips.
You may want to try the fix mentioned in this link:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/STEAMGamesonAMDFXplatforms.aspx

Please let us all know how this works for you!

This is just a quick post so people dont have to go digging in other threads.

This is what worked for me:
Creating a new Windows User account, switching users to that account (or logging out and back in under new Windows account) and running game through steam.

This fixed all my crashing issues and the loading times went from 5 minutes (yes I know retarded) to 30 seconds-ish.

Before I did this I tried:
1. disabling the ati .dll files (system32 and SysWOW64)
2. Didn't have LAN Proxy
3. Updated Video drivers
4. Re-installed
5. Downloaded patch (through steam)
6. Disabled use application settings in Video settings
7. Stopped using DX11
8. Set all video settings on lowest
9. Reduced Resolution.

I know this wont help everyone because of all the issues im reading, but it helped me.
1. I had bad load times (5 minutes+ when it didnt crash...during the load)
2. Audio hang loop (while following pritchard.. i think that was his name)
3. the DRM crash
4. crashing while loading saved game (autosave or manual save)
5. Crashing after cutscenes

I havent seen a crash logged into this new account yet.

The game doesn't seem to like my computer and after about 5-10 minutes of playing it locks up and crashes to the desktop. This is regardless if I'm running the game in eyefinity mode or not.

I'm not doing anything special in game, in fact I didn't even get to the playing portion of it. This is the first walkaround the building that it locked up on. It was even a problem in the leaked version. (Sorry)

Before you ask, yes, all my drivers are up to date, it is a video driver crash (according to the AMD popup), and I can't disable crossfire due to the video card being an HD6990. Here's the rest of the setup.

3 x Viewsonic VG2428wm in EyeFinity
Core i7-2600k
Sabertooth P67 B3
8GB DDR3-1600
Radeon HD 6990 4GB w/ Catalyst 11.8
240GB OCZ Vertex 3
Silverstone 1000w PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Any help is appreciated. I've been foaming at the mouth to play this game.

I get to the loading screen after clicking on difficulty level and it freezes and crashes.

Intel 2798 Mhz Duo Core
ATI Radeon HD 5700
4091 mb RAM
Gigabyte P-55 UD3R

Yes all drivers are updated including motherboard

I run on Steam and I was promtped to defrag at the same time as steam was trying to unlock the files. I wonder if that had something to do with it.

Do you get a crashdump for this? ie the system is able to `catch` the crash as it happens? if so that means the dev guys will be able to trace the problem easier

A bad data error? that was the ingame error? sounds like your machine having some fun HD issues :( you tried rebooting.. get to the front end, delete the save games, dont try and load them.. then start fresh?

Faulting module name: aticfx32.dll aticfx32.dll is your graphics card driver (for DirectX11 I believe). Try uninstalling your graphics card drivers, reboot, then install the latest drivers and reboot again.

If ATI is using proper naming, that's the crossfire driver, not necessarily DX11. I cannot disable crossfire to test. However, since I'm not a game programmer, I'll take your word for it.

ANYWAY
Tried that. Removed everything related to ATI/AMD (including my monitor pre-sets :( ) rebooted and reinstalled the drivers from scratch. I was able to play for about 10 minutes (into the actual combat) before it crashed again.

It will lock the game with repeating sounds for about 10 seconds before the screen goes blank for a few seconds more, then the windows crash report shows up.

When I get back home (5:30PM EST) I'll try setting it to DirectX 10 (if that's an option. I didn't check) and report back. Also, any other troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

I re-installed the game and it worked fine until i tried to load a saved file again. The loading wheel spun continuously. No error or crash just infinite spinning! I will continue to try work arounds. Ill let you know what happens.

On a side note thanks for being around! Its nice to see someone actually patrolling this forum and trying to help. Whatever else may happen the fact your on is a nod to eidos! Thanks again!

your pc is having a world of file accessing issues isnt it.. fyi i dont think DRM means digital rights here, its just the file name used in game.. have you ran a proper HD defrag on your machine? something like `mydefrag`? (its freeware)

Do you have any anti-virus or other security software running? It's possible something like this could be interfering with the files. You could try disabling them and see if it makes any difference.

Rather than reinstalling the entire game, run the verify game cache tool in steam which should find any erroneous files and redownload them for you.

mohazek

Defragged my disk with defrag tool as you suggested. Game wont even load now. Tried restarting computer, disabled all virus and anit-spyware. Still won't even start now. Used steam tools to check cache, still, game wont load.

I have tried all fixes in the FAQ and ones suggested here - I went from being able to run the game fine, but not load saves, to not being able to get past the copyright screen without hitting a non-responsive crash.

Is this just a data access problem or what?

This sounds like your HD has really got some serious issues :( when did you last run a full scandisk on your machine?

Go to my computer, right click on your C drive, select `properties` then select tools.. Error checking is usually at the top.. select `check now` and make sure you tick the `scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors`..it will possibly advise you to restart as cannot run whilst system is running.. on the reboot it will run the program in `dos` mode.. let it finish.. and see how it looks?

jaywalker2309

Ahh you are on a laptop.. okay drivers for these are `harder` to come by if they are not supported by the default drivers on amds website

http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx

Go here, and use the `form` at the top right for your chipset etc. .it will advise you if it has newer drivers for you

or if you just want to get AMDs auto driver tool http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx

Every time I try to start the game, the intro cinematic begins to play correctly but immediately after the 'nixxes' logo fades out, the gold, in-game cursor appears (with nothing else- black screen) and the sound enters a stutter loop where the same 1/2-1 second snippet plays endlessly. This happens consistently, at the exact same point every time.

I've tried verifying my steam game cache and ultimately ended up redownloading altogether. I've restarted steam and my PC several times. I've verified that I'm running the latest ATI drivers (11.8). I've tried disabling my anti-virus software. I've tried running the steam client and Deus Ex as administrator. I've tried disabling all options in the setup, and have tried at various resolutions both with DX11 enabled and disabled. I've tried with headphones on my PC (via realtek board) and over HDMI using my video card. Nothing I've tried has allowed me to progress past this one point, which is very frustrating as I've never had any problems running any other games on this PC.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Did I mention I have a raid format? That kind of error ck will take a few hours. I have a feeling that this is a valve, eidos, issue and not a HD one. There's just too many posts that are in the neighborhood of the problems i'm having.:mad2:

I actually reinstalled the whole game a second time and it still doesnt get past the copyright screen. How did I go from being able to play to not even being able to get past the copyright screen by defragging? Even after i reinstalled still cant get past the copyright. Its mind boggling!!

Hello!

I have installed the game today, from Steam, and the game freeze almost everywhere and anywhere in the game. It freezes when tutorial pops up, or/and when I hit Escape the tutorials, it freezes while I play, freezes also when cinematic is on, well it freezes from 5 minutes to 30 minutes into play for no apparent reason that I can think ove.
All the settings from the game menu are maxed out.
Strange I run all maxed out with FPS ranging from 100 to 175.

My system is Window's 7 64bits, running on Intel i7 975 Black Edition at 4.20 ghz with 6 gig of rams, and 2 EVGA GeForce GTX 580 ( drivers are 280.26 ) SuperClocked in SLI.

So what's the problem, please?

It is certainly not my comp, I play Assassins Creed Brotherhood, Dragon Ages 2, Crysis 2 and also The Witcher 2 , on all maxed out, and those games run perfectly with no crashe or freezing, with amazing FPS. My PC is ONLY 10 months old so....... so what's the deal EIDOS, please?

Thank you!

I'm having the exact issue above as well, It seems to freeze immediately after the Nixxes logo should come to an end. I'm not sure if at that point it would show another intro cinematic or if it's attempting to load a menu.

Verified Steam Cache
Force a complete Re-download
Various restarts.
Updated my video drivers (nVidia 273 to 280.26)
Altered various graphics settings in both the launcher and registry
Edit: Tried clearing ClientRegistry.blob, no dice.
Edit: No Ati drivers anywhere on the system, so no atidlxy.dll to get rid of.
Edit: Disabled Secondary Display, no effect.
Edit: Tried altering the Compatibility Mode for the executable. Nada.

Did the new drivers `improve` it tho in terms of how regular it happened? laptops and games are not normally good bedfellows, altho some companies go out of their way to create `gaming laptops` but they use `desktop` parts in the laptop so hardware wise you wouldnt tell much apart from an actual desktop.

Whenever I launch Deus Ex, I can only get to the menu before it crashes. If I move my mouse, it instantly closes out without any sign of error. This also happens when I use the arrow keys and enter to start a new game or try to adjust options. I don't get what is going on, nor do I have the slightest idea of how to fix it. Does anyone else have this issue?

gird
23rd Aug 2011, 19:46
Okay, I figured out a workaround for my issue, maybe this will work for you as well:

Immediately after you launch, alt-tab out of the app and launch your task manager. On the Processes tab, right-click on dxhr.exe and select 'Set Affinity...' Since it sounds like you have the same CPU that I do, you should see 8 'CPU' checkboxes (plus an '<All Processors>' checkbox). Uncheck the '<All Processors>' box and just select one CPU (I don't think it matters which). Alt-tab back into Deus Ex, and the main menu should now be able to load. At this point, it seems like you can alt-tab back into your task manager and re-enable all CPUs... for some reason it just seems to be a sticking point when first trying to load the menu (though I haven't tried playing the game yet, so it might cause problems elsewhere?)

Hopefully SE can figure out if this is a general issue with quad-core/64-bit processors and incorporate a fix for it in the first patch...

I am running with:

I think i'm having the same problem. The event viewer shows two other entries at the same time as the crash entries.
Apparently there is some issue with the desktop window manager.

A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (4)
The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application

I have googled a bit and that problem seems to not be limited to DX HR. Although it's the first game that caused it for me.

Yeah it's official. I have not only followed all suggestions here and in the FAQ, which means full checkdisk and all sorts of file fudging, i have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, twice. I've checked drivers, registries, I've pretty much given over to the "it's not me, it's you". I've been at this since 7:30am and its now 4pm.

So, "mark it zero dude." I'm done with this POS. Geuss like many others I'll have to wait for Valve and Eidos to un*&^% themselves. I havent seen a single thread that relates to the boxed retail copy having these type of issues.

You are reporting constant HD read errors, the version on disc is the same as the version on the steam servers.. steam works by ensuring the image on your hd matches what it is hosting..

:( its been a long day i can imagine. I've just read someone found a strange solution to some problems they were having by creating another user account with their machine, logging in on that and just going to run steam (as accounts for steam dont worry about windows user accounts it just works).. grasping at straws but sometimes they work?

I have a GTX570 and similar setup and was having same problem. I disabled the run in dx11 mode option and it hasn't crashed after hours of game play. And the graphics aren't flashy enough to really take advantage of dx11 anyway, so there is no noticeable dip in quality.

After finding the Deadlock report above, I came to the same conclusion - that this was a multithreading issue. I tried altering the affinity on the fly with the task manager, but the game kept resetting the affinity during the startup sequence. Eventually, I set Steam's affinity to a single CPU, and then the game's to a single CPU and that seemed to do the trick.

I wrote a simple batch file to force the game at run to a single CPU:

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\deus ex - human revolution
start /affinity 01 dxhr.exe

Simply replace the path in the first line to wherever the game in installed - Mine's the Steam version, so if you have that it should work out of the box.

Save the two lines to a text file, name it something appropriate with the ".bat" extension. Ex. "DeusEx.Bat", drop it on the desktop, and you should be able to run the game from there with no issues.

overheating is not limited to lappys.. my desktop machine produces so much heat is named the deathstar in the office :)

Hmm interesting about the DWM issue..

*edit* I'm using a desktop pc btw, so it's nt limited to laptops

My event viewer is showing the same thing right when I crash. I'm gonna disable DWM and try again. My specs:

I started encountering random freezes in the game during the opening gameplay and sometimes during the loading screen as well.

They happen about brief periods of gameplay, after which the screen will freeze in place and the sound will stutter and stop. Afterwards, it is not possible to alt+tab out of the game or start the task manager.

I've tried messing around with the display settings to see if it makes a difference, but it doesn't. I'm currently trying to update my nVidia drivers to the latest version to see if it helps.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what have you done to try and fix it?

I have a GTX570 and similar setup and was having same problem. I disabled the run in dx11 mode option and it hasn't crashed after hours of game play. And the graphics aren't flashy enough to really take advantage of dx11 anyway, so there is no noticeable dip in quality.

Well thanks for info but I have also did some tweeking on my end with the game set up options when I launch Steam, and I have discover that when I uncheck in advanced menu DOF or FOD, ( my game is in french, uncheck the last option in advance menu ) and all of the other settings are maxed out, well my game run smoothly and no freezes anymore or crashes. I will try also your tip, and let you know and the rest of the community what is the more suitable or stable options, for safer gaming, DOF on or off or DX11 option off or on.

Also having this issue, full system crashes/reboots during cutscenes.

System Specs:

The first time it occurred was right after game decryption and boot - the system crashed during the AMD logo scene. After that, it crashes during the intro movie & credits (surgery). The crashes are intermittent, but so far have only occurred during those two movies.

I also experience in-game crashes. I get dumped back to the desktop with no error messages or information. It always happens in response to certain in-game triggers. I'm only 20 minutes or so into the game. It ran normally through the prologue, I am on the warehouse rescue mission (1st mission post-augmentation). When I try to access a computer in my office, it crashes straight to desktop. When I try to fire the tranquilizer rifle, it fires, and crashes to desktop during the reload animation. Oddly specific.

Last night, I re-validated my game files, installed the newest Nvidia drivers, restarted my computer, tried all the different possible video settings, searched endlessly for the files for that AMD .dll fix, then realized I've never had an AMD card on my computer, so the files wouldn't exist. Then I went to sleep one very unhappy camper. I woke up today and saw to my amazement that the game had been hot-fixed, assuming that all was well, I started up the game, and low and behold, I held a new record for the fastest Crash To Desktop I had yet to experience for this game. Now, I'm going to re-validate again, if that doesn't work, I'll uninstall/reinstall my drivers, hell, if need be I'd reformat my computer just to play this game, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that it's not the fault of my drivers, operating system, or computer hardware, it is without question the game developers who are to blame for this.

I don't expect an answer as to how to fix this problem as an end-user; however, I most definitely expect some sort of, "We're working on it," or, "We're sorry we ruined your gaming experience," or, "We know we shouldn't have released the game like this, and we'll try our best to fix it." Mr. Forum Admin, please relay this message to your boss, or whoever it is that makes the decisions to release games in this state.

Sincerely yours,

An incredibly infuriated consumer

I have almost the same specs and the same issue as ghost rider. I'm about 15 min into the game but I've spent 3 hrs irl trying to play. i know you guys will fix this and I love Dues Ex, all of them, but if you could at least let me skip the publisher/developer logos in the begining i think i would only be 2 hrs invested. I'm try to grind through through the crashes but it is frustrating since after every other crash all my options are rest to defaults. Next time i crash I'll see if i can get a dump log.

My game freezes at the same moment every time. It is during the cutscene after the firefights in the burning Sarif labs where some guy with augmented red arms is about to punch something. I don't know what, since I cannot get past that first 2 seconds of the cutscene. I have to use the task manager to close Dues Ex, which gives me the "has stopped responding" error.

Even if I try to skip it, it still freezes. It freezes if I press skip, and it freezes if I "take too long" (2 seconds) to press skip. I've tried running admin, updating drivers, updating flash player (before this issue, I kept getting "flash.ocx missing" errors, which I fixed), running in compatibility mode, changing settings in advanced, the ATI driver renaming workaround, with the new patch, and nothing works. I can't play past the first 10 minutes of the game because of this.

The only thing that can fix this, it seems, is a patch on the developers end.

Ok, i just payed 60 bucks for a PC game that simply refuses to run. I really feel as if these people are all glitter and no code; how is this legal? How does a company as big as this dupe us into buying an unfinished game? Is our trust misplaced? This is the last time i pre-order a game, i trust game developers no longer. If you can botch a launch this big, with this big a marketing machine, then you simply do not deserve the confidence of your costumers.

I learned a lesson today: do not be taken by shiny objects. I bought into the hype, and all i got is my liver sticking out of my ear from the level of anger this farsse produced. Never again. I shall wait a few months till developers actually finish a game before i pay 60 dollars again. It makes me wonder why i am paying 60 bucks, why not just wait for games to lower their price and save over half the money? The answer is i wanted to promote game companies and their intellectual properties, to reward initiative and gall, yet i am left with an acrid taste in my mouth... i feel robbed, shame on you, EA, NEVER AGAIN.

Not to suggest your problems aren't frustrating, but relax a bit. I reviewed the game and, while I experienced crashes, they weren't too frequent. Playing the retail edition of the game, I've had even fewer issues. Why do you assume anyone who isn't having problems, reviewers or regular players, are liars? PC games are prone to problems due to the fact that you simply can't anticipate every single possible combination of hardware, software and system preferences that users will have - testing can help reduce it but not eliminate it. That's a reality you have to accept as a PC gamer, even if sometimes it does bite you in the ass.

Just give them time to work out the kinks, and do your best to ensure that your system isn't to blame here (lacking updates, viruses, incomplete game files, corrupt driver install, overclocking, etc.). A friend of mine was having some crashes until he turned off Data Execution Prevention for the game executable, as well, so you may want to try doing that yourself if you haven't already.

Oh, and for the record, EA aren't in any way involved with Deus Ex, past or present.

If your game is constantly freezing and crashing then you’re just like the 100% of everyone else that chose the PC version. If you go to your control panel and create a new user (I did non-admin) and play Deus Ex from that new account you will not crash and freeze up as much. YOU WILL STILL HAVE CRASHES! ... just not as much, again it’s a Band-Aid for a bullet wound. Hope this helps a lot of you :mad2:

Just got to the part where the Guards tutorial comes up. Played it but there was no video, nor sound. The text below kept going though. But then it also stopped, so I hit the ESC to Skip Tutorial button. At that point, the entire game stopped responding and I had to kill it via task manager. This is on the hardest mode, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Game was smooth up until this point.

consistantly, I am unable to play the game because it crashes, over and over and over at every loading screen. sometimes I get lucky and it gets through but I am absolutely fed up now. I can't even get to the first mission because it refuses to load as I get in the helicoptor. It shows the cutscene and when it gets to the loading scree, just a spinning wheel.

I have dozens of .mdmp files I cannot read and this time when it crashed it finally told me something.

I Downloaded the game through steam and only adjusted the field of view and set anisotropic filtering to 16X it appears to run fine up until the second tutorial on moving objects. I hold tab and the window comes up but nothing plays and then the game freezes and I have to close it through the task manager. The first tutorial worked fine and it appears that as long as I don't open any tutorials from that point on that there is no problem it is only on that tutorial and any others after it.

I did run the first tutorial without changing the field of view however I have no changed it back to try because any lower actually hurts my eyes to play at.

Running at 1440X900 resolution
Field of view set to 90

Edit 1: After posting I went to update drivers and sure enough there was an update for my video card however after installing nothing changed. I even went and tried resetting the video options and field of view back to normal but they still didn't work so instead I ignored the tutorials but just to be sure nothing was missed watched them on youtube. However this brought up a new issue that actually is a real problem whatever comes after the opening credits/operation gives me a black screen with music and what sounds like footsteps going on after about 30 seconds I realized this was not part of the game and opened task manager. It claims to still be running and going back I was given the menu and tried to exit to main menu which then caused the game to crash.

This is something that is really a problem because the other issues I could ignore and go right past however now I am unable to progress past the Opening level because of this Freeze/crash

Please Help.

Incredibly frustrating. I have tried defragment in steam, verify integrity in steam, uninstall the game, delete the game directory, reinstall the game... I don't know what to do. This sucks

Been having an odd problem that I can't figure out for the life of me, I'll start the game as normal but if I try to watch the cutscene eventually my game will crash into a full system reboot. The real odd thing is if I skip the cutscene I can play the game with no troubles at all until I reach the next big cutscene at the end of the tutorial.

I am running with:
Core i7 CPU 920 2.67GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
6gb ram
Windows 7 x64

Updated drivers and direct x and still nothing and I'm almost to the point where I just nuke the thing from orbit and format the whole drive :mad2: . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did also verify the cache

I have a very similar system and I have the same problem. Cinematics will hard lock my machine in random places. I've reloaded the game, verified the cache and tried multiple display options with no change.

My system is:
i7-920 2.67
6gb ram
GTX 295 w/latest drivers 280.26
Win 7 64bit

Anybody have any ideas?

i have the same issues with the crashes
some things i have noticed when vcredist_x86 installs it places a bunch of files in the main C:\directory
i can only guess that this isn't where these files should be going.
Also while I'm play when the game crashes is usually when i pick up a box is usually when it happens to me.
seems to happen on a right click to drop the box then it crashes.

My pc specs are as follows
Asus Maximus Extreme IV Rev
i72600k
4gb of g.skill DDR3 1866mhz ram
Corsair HX750 power supply
Raid0
Ati HIS HD 5830 Turbo w/latest Drivers

I am having the EXACT same issue, except this occurred on the very first dialog option I faced. I retried three times (got a crash back to desktop each time, no error message) before picking the option on the right - that worked fine. Very next conversation (with Malik), I chose the left option again and it crashed back to the desktop, no error message.

I'm also using the Steam version.

Same issues here - I can barely ever use a saved game (either auto-save or manual) and such, haven't made it past the first cut-scene after getting thrown through the window. I did just get a auto-save to load correctly, died again and now am crashing when I try to load the *exact* same auto-save.

Saving games appears to work normally, but given that I can *rarely* load any saved game, DE:HR is effectively unplayable for me. I'm a Steam User and have tried disabling Cloud Sync as well as playing in Offline mode and starting the DE:HR client as an administrator. Nothing I've tried has worked.

Please take a look at this issue and issue a fix or give us a workaround as quickly as possible! You've got a great game here from all account and I'd love to be able to play it.

This just started happening to me about 15 minutes ago, after Steam installed an update for the game. I'm trying to talk to O'Malley and any option that is top or left on the dialogue selection crashes the game to desktop. I'm about 10 hours in playing time according to Steam.

Same here! So glad it's not just me!
I've ran into occasional stuttering on cutscenes, but other than that, I'm running at almost constant 60 FPS w/ vsynch enabled.

Other than OS and motherboard manufacturer, I have completely different specs than you as well:

AMD Athlon II X4 630 Processor 2.8 GHz
Asus M4A79XTD EVO mobo
8 GB Corsair RAM
W7 Ultimate x64
NVIDIA GTX460 768 MB, newest drivers as of mid August 2011
DX11 mode with many settings at normal or high, AA on 2xFSAA, 1920x1200 res, 8x anisotropic filtering, SSAO normal, shadows normal

I'm using onboard Audio, which is a Realtek AC97 codec

I have figured out through using the Steam console that Deus Ex is quitting out by itself for completely no reason other than what I assume could be a CEG-related problem. It is just closing out rather than saying that it has encountered a problem.

From the steam console:

Game removed: AppID 28050 "Deus Ex - Human Revolution", ProcID 6736

I hope you can get this fixed soon.

This seems to happen on Steam after sometimes played... I hope this is gonna be patch or something because the left dialog option is often the one who make us leave the dialog and if we can't leave one dialog... this is gonna be a long game xD...

I've been playing on a brand new copy of the game, and at some parts or actions taken, the game will freeze. One would be if I were to use the wall smashing skill in the sewer, it would result in a freeze. Another is at Derelict Row, when trying to sneak past the gangsters next to the containers on the way to the antennae by holding the "cover" (Default: L trigger) button. Next up is during Highland Park, when first talking to the black gangster to buy/sell guns/intel.

So what the hell guys.

Edit: I've also cleared the cache multiple times.

Edit2: found a fix around the Highland Park gun seller. Just get a cutscene first by walking into the building on the left and going back to him. But still, what the hell guys.

Edit 3: Now the game freezes when I try to enter the Youzhou district. I can seriously find no work arounds this time.

Hi.

I've been helping Renda determine the cause of the issue, and it's indeed tied to Steam's CEG.

When the game exits, it exits with the exit code 0x8000DEAD, this is a trademark exit code for when CEG terminates the process due to an issue in the DRM handling. My limited knowledge on how CEG functions tells me that this can occur when calls to Steamworks_TestSecret or Steamworks_SelfCheck fail, but this shouldn't be happening for a legit copy of the game.

He has a Steam purchased copy that is exiting with this error code every time he reaches the menu.

I know this isn't really a ideal place for putting a support ticket, but this issue should definitely be elevated to the QA team or hopefully the developers so that it can get fixed.

For anyone else out there that's simply having their game exit out without a crash, you can confirm if you're having this same issue by creating a batch file with the following contents in "Steam\steamapps\common\deus ex - human revolution":

@echo off
set errorlevel=
dxhr.exe
echo error level %errorlevel%
pause

Additionally, you'll need a file in the same directory called steam_appid.txt, with the contents: 28050

Double click the batch file and wait for your game to exit out, and check the command prompt that appears.

If you're seeing an error level of "-2147426643", you're indeed experiencing an issue with Steam's DRM.

tl;dr - This game's CEG DRM is being hella retarded.

I'm having a similar problem but slightly different. I get no message that the game failed to load, crashed, etc.

Instead, the icon in the lower right stops spinning when the game is loading. I've waited for some time for the game to load, but the game never loads. This issue will not happen for several loads then happen consistently for the next 4 or so loads.

Watching the intro and not being able to skip it + load times is annoying enough for me to jump on this forum and look for a solution.

ALL my drivers are up to date. My HD is CLEAN.

Is anyone else having similar problems? Have you found a solution? Please, let me know if you do =)

The point that I'm at in the game it is completely unplayable. It wasn't doing this earlier in the game and just started doing it on this one NPC and now does it on the rest. I don't know what triggered it but I believe it has something to do with this update that Steam did.

ok think i managed to figure out this problem.
I created a short cut to the desktop for dxhr.exe
changed compatibility to windows xp sp2, disable visual themes, disable display scaling on high dpi settings
the fix that seem to make it work was under the shortcut tab set run to Minimized so far so good.
Run is normally listed as Normal window
I also adjusted some of the file permissions don't know if that mattered any.
but i have found problems with windows 7 are usually related to permission problems in my experiences.
i also changed my game resolution to 1280 x 1024 i think.
no crash since these changes i have made glad i didn't have to reinstall my pc though what a PITA that is, lol
hopefully i can finish this great game also the picking up of the boxes i thought was the issue but isn't the game would crash at any given moment no matter what you where doing.
Hope this helps someone..

Turn off DX11.

So far that has fixed a constantly occurring crash when exiting the 1st elevator in the Warehouse level (really frustrating and almost game breaking crash). As well, it stopped all random crashes that occurred while wandering around the Detroit hub. As a side note, my videocard is an Nvidia GT540M, with the latest drivers.

I hope Eidos is working on a fix for this DX11 issue and will release it soon.

Looks like perhaps the patch/hotfix broke the conversation mechanics for some people?

My game is playable, but I can only choose two of the four options, which kinda limits my ability to play the game.

My rigs is as follows:
Windows 7 x64 SP1
Intel i7-920
Gigabyte GA-EX58 UD5
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 470, driver v280.26

No crash dump, so I can't offer any details. This happens every time for me, no exceptions.

It is a major game-breaking bug for the people it affects (many steam users?). Basically, the game crashes to the desktop with no error message when either the left most of upper most dialog option is selected.

Why are so many bugs on the PC prelavent.... I mean come on they said themselves they were focusing on the PC experience, or was it they never bothered checking to see how the game played through Steam? <- highly likely me thinks

Steam is a `platform` on the PC, you cannot play the game outside of this, and neither can we.

So, DX:HR is minimizing itself randomly(15-40min intervals?), with no warning, without any event I can perceive which initiates it. Sometimes it just plain crashes. Oddly enough when it's minimized itself I can still hear audio continuing unaffected. I can fire my weapon and hear it fire in that state. I cannot interact with the desktop unless I alt+tab to a program at which point the game crashes.

My first reaction to these events was to look for a program causing Deus Ex to minimize. I manually put Norton on silent mode and disabled Malwarebytes protection. With neither of those helping I started to look at running processes, by habit, only to see what I should expect, no abnormal processes. Unfortunately I cannot say definitively whether or not this issue is exclusive to Deus Ex as I did a clean install of Windows not but a few days ago. While I have not noticed any issue playing BFBC2 or Oblivion I should put in some lengthy sessions before ruling out other possibilities.

System Summary. GA-MA770-UD3, 4gb G.Skill ddr2-800, Corsair HX850 psu, PII X4 940 @3.3, GTX 570 Superclocked, 1tb WD Cav Black, Clean install of W7-64 Ultimate, graphics driver 280.26, temps are fine.

Tomorrow I'll do further testing. I'll put 4hrs or so into Oblivion. Then I'll play DX:HR and disable what programs I do have running which are not essential and might be causing issues although it is worth noting that all of these programs ran without issue before the clean install and caused no issues while gaming.

steam does place a crash file but its located in a different folder on your drive
folder is called crashdumps under user/appdata/local/crashdumps folder ....
there is another folder also user/appdata/local/dxhr/ looks like some kind of caching folder :rasp:

You may not necessarily get the error message I did... you will however have the wheel stop spinning at loading screens. I only got the error 1/20 times.

That might have been able to work for you but the game refuses to run on anything other than a default option for me. I love the game so far but of the 8 hours I have been playing it 6 hours have been troubleshooting and trying to find a different route or chain of options that cause no crashes.

Did not realize that about Steam ty.

Those of you who are crashing,

Can you PM me a link to your Steam Community profile? Alternatively, if you have a support ticket open with Steam Support, that ticket reference number will do as well.

Cheers!

Has Eidos stated that they are working on a new patch yet?

Alot of these problems could be related to Steam's Hard Drive authentication of the game as someone stated above. If you are running a RAID HD config like I am it's a cluster *&^% because someone at Steam apparently didnt take that possibility into account.

Raid-0 here, game crashes during loads. I have turned off cloud syncing for DEHR. 1 out of probably 20 crashes I get an error that looks like this.
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x161/lmprezatt/FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.jpg

The loading wheel just stops turning and I have to ctrlaltdel out. I will either find the standard "has stopped responding" window or this. far more often it's just the "has stopped responding" window.

This is no Hard Drive issue.

I've now tried this game on the following:

Raid 0 Intel 80GB G2 SSD's
A single Intel 80GB G2
A set of raid-0 1.5TB Seagate drives

I've tried swapping S/ATA cables, using a S/ATA controller that I know is good, and reinstalling Windows 7.

Still getting the issue.

I get game crashes if I change the video to DX9 and tinker with any of the settings. The game boots but if I load a save file, it crashes and gives me an error message when the load is finished and tells me that I may not have enough system resources or something. Only in DX9 mode though...

I also get random lockups too when some cutscenes are suppose to kick in. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

hey "jaycw2309" r you guys working on a patch for those of us who can't even play the game yet?

i can't even play yet..i can get all the way up to selecting the difficulty and then it starts the loading screen and flips through the tips but after loading for around 15-20 seconds it crashes out into my desktop...i thought it was prob just a graphics problem so i updated my nvidia GeForce 9600gt drivers but that hasn't helped at all. I've also tried: re-installing the game, defragged game, defragged entire HDD, tried verifying the integrity of the cache file, updated with you last patch, creating a new user (as that helped for some ppl), and i even tried running it in winXP sp2 and sp3 compatibility mode and none of that has worked at all

but from what i've seen just looking at the main menu, and watching the tutorials for the main menu the game looks like it will be a lot of fun to play (that is IF i ever get that far)

and idk if this helps any but my sys specs are:
intel core 2 extreme cpu (quad core 3.00 Ghz)
GeForce 9600gt Graphics card
OS is win server 08 r2 (i know this MIGHT be my prob but i dont think it really is)

BTW i also posted this same post in the NEW PACTH forum

Hi there,

I just purchased Deus Ex on the PS3, installed the game and started playing it.

The game first crashed during the first cutscene.

restarted.

The game crashed after I skipped the cutscene.

restarted.

The game wouldn't even load.

Uninstalled, and now installing again and it won't install it is stuck at 38%.

My ps3 functions normally and i have never had a problem with a game before, this is actually the first time, could it be possible the disc is just damaged? it has no scratches and I bought it brand new. I don't want to go back to the store and get a new copy if this issue can be resolved

I too am getting frequent game freezes/crashes and they seem to have gone up in frequency since I entered the detroit hub. It's a great game, and I hope they patch it soon because right now it's the only thing that's stopping me from booting it up and playing it right now. It's frustrating to receive a new game and feel like we're beta testing it. I mean, it could be that detroit itself is buggy but considering other people are having problems at different points I doubt it.

To a certain extent it seems the game hates Asus laptops and gaming laptops in general from what I've read elsewhere.

Here's what I've tried unsuccessfully (suggested on this forum and elsewhere):

Updated My Graphics Drivers (Then Rolled Them Back thinking that might have been the problem)
Disabled DX11 (Turned it back on after it didn't fix problems)
Turned Off Tesselation (in order to stop the artificating on NPCs)
Adjusted Graphics Settings to Lower Resolution/Less Antiliasing etc
Tried running the program directly (not through Steam's shortcut)

Often I'm crashing it's saying that nvwgf2um.dll is at error (which is an Nvidia or direct X thing I think?)

System Specs:

Windows 7 64 Bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-2630QM
NVIDIA 460M (Driver Version: 8.17.12.6686)
Memory: 16GB

PLEASE FIX THIS EIDOS! I want to play your game without wondering when it's going to crash next!

My game repeatedly crashes at one specific point; one that is required to advance through the game's primary story, no less.

Entering Derelict Row to find the Antenna

I have previously been to this location for sidequests, and didn't experience this issue. It triggers when receiving an infolink communication from Pritchard. Toggling Directx 11 off did not fix this issue. My drivers are up to date. I have the new DXHR patch installed.

I'm having a crashing problem too, was able to play fine all through yesterday (got 14 hours in) with no problems whatsoever, but after booting up laptop to play today a minute or two into the game both my screens (working off laptop with HD Monitor plugged in) go black - typically one of the screens will have black and dark white/grayish/brown stripes going down in - sound may get stuck on a looped stutter sometimes, typically just turns off. Have to do a hard reboot each time.

I'm guessing it's a hardware issue in some way but I can play everything else fine, I've re-updated my video drivers (were already up to date), checked my BIOS, tried running non-DX11 same issue. And it's completely unreliable when black screen happens, sometimes during loading sometimes 2mins in to game (never longer than 2mins).

I get looping audio too (on occassion) and also get a program error when I quit legitimately as well (if that helps anything).

Where does Steam keep it's crash dumps in windows 7? Next time I try (and it inevitably crashes) I can put the full thing up here and hopefully help the creation of a speedy patch

Agreed. Running with DX11 turned off and almost completed the Detroit Hub without a single crash. With DX11 on it would constantly crash when in certain areas at exactly the same spot each time (ie when walking down a specific hallway).

The annoying thing is, I actually get a performance hit when playing in DX9 mode, but not in DX11 mode.

This is the most buggy game I've played in my 25 years of PC gaming. I've never struggled to much and played so little in any game in my life.

There's probably a good game in there, but I'm dealing with crashes to the desktop every few minutes. I've tried everything driver settings related, and it's just simply incredible to me that any company would release such a glitchy product.

I have around 40 crash logs, and most of them involve dxgr.exe crashing and some sort of error involving Nvidia drivers.

This game is absolutely unplayable until the developers decide to fix things. I wish I could get my money back from Steam.

i7 920, 6GB RAM, tried on both WD Black HDD and OCZ Vertex 2, 2 x 580 SLI, Win7 Pro 64. Tried Nvidia 280.26 and 275.33 drivers, and both case the crashing problem.

Hi guys, the game crashes after double clicking on the game. It says "dxhr.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Looking at the error report to send we see this:

AppName: dxhr.exe AppVer: 1.1.620.0 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 06a54960

I have updated my ATI drivers but no luck. I've rebooted Steam twice, once before and once after and still no luck. I told Steam to do a Client update but it just sits there. Is there a way to manually update Steam? The copy on the website says it hasn't been updated since 17 March 2011.

//Update: I repaired Steam using the old version from the website but then Steam wouldn't load, so I reinstalled it. It refused to load for the first two reboots claiming it had no login but gave me no option to put my details in but now it is doing an update but it is EXTREMELY slow (1% every 2 minutes or so).

Is there any update on the crash during dialogue? I've restarted a new game and it does it before we get into the meat of the game after the attack on the lab as well. So its not just in that one save file.

EriktheRed

I'm trying to complete the Motherly Ties quest, but certain dialog choices cause an immediate crash to desktop with no error report. This happens if I talk to Cassandra Reed in the Chiron building and select the "witness" option. It also happens if I talk to her but choose to leave her and finish the quest later. I can't finish the quest as a result of this.

I broke into the safe before talking to her, and stole the bracelet. I used the omega pheromones on the receptionist to let me into the police station. Also, I tried to sneak into the armory, but had to knock out the police officer there.

It seems like whatever dialog file that is supposed to play is missing, because the crash occurs the instant I select the choice. I've tried running the game both as an administrator and through a different user account to no avail. I have the latest video drivers for my card, the ATI Radeon Mobility 550v.

I've searched on the forum, and have found no one else with this exact problem. The only other issues I've seen with the Motherly Ties quest are that it doesn't correctly end the conversation for some people. I hope someone has a solution for me!

Okay, here is my issue:

I can start the game normally, load it normally, have no load time issues, have no real graphics issues other than a few stutters as the game starts up which go away after a minute or so.

but now here is the problem. When I press start and go into the menu, the game will freeze if I try to load a file or save a file. I can sometimes save a file without an issue, but almost always trying to load a file it freezes and I have to close the game with the task manager. It didn't do this at the start, but now it is doing it almost constantly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi there, first of all i appreciate the quick responses from the admins but I just want to suggest that we shouldnt pile up feedback from xbox 360, PC and PS3 in the same thread, it gives console users trouble since alot of driver issues and such arent our main concern.

Anyway, I still have issues with my Deus Ex copy.

Earlier my copy was not working, the disc is fine since I tried it out on a newer PS3 model, mine is the 40 gig version, and i never have any problems with any other games.

The game crashes randomly, and it looks like its a disc issue.

however the newer ps3 doesnt crash, while the older version has been crashing and there is nothing wrong with my older ps3.

The only thing id also like to point out is that my ps3 is NTSC and the version im running is pal but i never have this problem.

Any suggestion? hopes for patches or updates in the future? im hoping someone might have the same issue but since everything is piled up in one thread i cant be bothered to look at every post!

Thanks!

I too would like to voice my displeasure at all the freezes/crashes to desktop I am experiencing. I am on PC, STEAM version and use AMD cards in crossfire. It seems that it happens most of the time when entering a new area, the game freezes, then goes to desktop with an error message "deus Ex has stopped responding and has closed".

Currently Running:

I'm running Witcher 2, Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Rift, and a few others. I've had no problems with these games. Brink is the only other game I've had this kind of trouble with. I was never able to actually even get Brink in-game.

I've enjoyed the 3 hours I've been in-game, but I'm not enjoying the 3 hours I've spent trying to get the game to run. I'd really love to get this up and stable. Thanks!

Sadly, due to the nature of the freeze (it locks my computer up so that I have to power it down manually), I'm getting no logs for my crashes/freezes.

Could not get past the elevator. As soon as the tool-tip pop up loaded it would hang, or crash to desktop.

Went into BIOS setup.

save and exit.

I just got access to the city, and I'm trying to do the sidequest where I have to stop the drug runners from harassing that guy who's been giving away medicine ( I don't remember the names off the top of my head). Every time I go to the basketball court to speak to the 2 gang members, the game crashes. It doesn't matter how I enter the basketball court. It crashes every time. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so did you fix it, and how?

Okay, it's not necessarily where I'm at, but how long I've been playing. Tried to play again, and it autosaved in the basketball court. Played for approximately how long it took for me to run from the guy giving out the medicine to the court and the game crashed. Any thoughts?

Oookay I believe I found a odd work around, I'm sure most people have turned tessalation off to avoid those pesky artifacts, but in my endeavor I turned it back on and used the .bak work around. Im now two hours into the game no crashes... So I guess this is a graphic rendering, but... whateverhope this works for some of you. I fully expect to come back though.

So is this a Steam DRM issue? If it is, what makes this game different? It would be the first game where I've had problems with Steam DRM. Whatever is the case, it needs to be fixed. It shouldn't have launched as it has.

My game will crash in quite repeatable circumstances and in the same manner each time.

When I start the game it will crash when I try to walk out of the room, during the dialogue sequence. The audio will start to loop and the screen will go black. After a few seconds it crashes to the desktop. The crash is not always in the same spot each time but always during that sequence, I have not been able to get past it. This makes me thing it's something with the audio.

I have tried making a new account, defragging, and updating everything as well as doing a full clean reinstall of my drivers.

I think it's safe to say this a problem with the game, not your drivers at this point.

Someone up there had the exact same crash as me too, same nvidia dll and everything...that's reassuring in at least I'm not alone in my specific symptoms.

Oh and when I try to load a saved game after turning off Direct X 11 and restarting the game as requested I get another crash to desktop, saying there is a display driver malfunction and there might not be enough resources available, something along those lines. So I can't play with DX11 disabled either. This is getting ridiculous!

Okay, well, can't argue that my thread had it's post consolidated here. Suppose best I can hope for in this thread though is that my info will lead to a patch which will fix the problem. Anyhow, here's my OP (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1656835&postcount=123) and after further testing it's safe to assume the issue is with DXHR. My Oblivion install while heavily modded is fairly stable and didn't have any unusual crashes. Crashes in Oblivion almost always are during a loading screen and there are no additional errors along with those crashes. I played 2.5hrs of BFBC2 with no issues whatsoever which is what I expect it to do. Seeing as other games are behaving as I expect them to it seems DXHR is out of excuses as to why it's crashing.

Error Info via Windows Reliability:
A few instances of DXHR crash involve a generic app icon & are listed as dxhr.exe with the following:

Rant
Anyhow, Deus Ex is a pretty fun game but being interrupted by random crashes multiple times is a killjoy on the overall experience. Honestly the only reason I didn't wait until this game was on sale on Steam was b/c Greenman had a deal allowing a pre-order for $30. The only comfort to me atm is that my expectation for this game while not entirely fulfilled were also fully expected. Months from now, when it's on sale on Steam, these bugs and glitches will most likely have been patched away. It's ironic really that the surest way to have the ideal experience on titles which are ported from consoles is to wait a few months for patches, at which point waiting a few more months for a price drop is easy to do due to triple A titles which get released after games like Deus Ex. The only way companies are going to break the vicious cycle users like myself habituate is to actually produce titles which do not reward this type of consumer behavior. I'd love to pay $60 and have the optimal experience on day 1 of release, but just as this game demonstrates once again my spending habits are as much an adaptation for having the best gaming experience as it is maintaining a sensible budget.

W/e though. As much as I'd enjoy finishing the story offered in the extraordinary universe of Deus Ex I'm going to shelve this game until all the bugs are actually worked out. I mean, ffs, how hard is it to get rid of bugs that occur on a clean install of W7 whose only other extraneous programs are browsers, logitech software, codecs, and your basic AV software. Really now...

Is it exiting out, or are you getting a crash dialog? If the game is simply exiting out, you may be having an issue with Steam's CEG DRM. Check these two posts for some tips:

http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1657427&postcount=132 - BurtonJ is a Valve employee that can probably help with this situation.

really don't like this thread all lumped together. There are clearly several different crash scenarios and issues here yet they're all stuffed into one thread.

Mine for example runs fine in game, I could probably stand around for hours, no crash. If I try to load a save file or a new area, it crashes during loading.

Many others seem to be having crashes in the middle of a mission, or at a dialogue box.

I had posted earlier in this thread saying it didn't work for me. What I did was turn off DirectX 11 and at the parts where it would normally crash it just lags a bit then gets past it. I don't know whats going on.

Deus Ex was working fine until I got to the part where I need to infiltrate that Chinese augs corp. Anytime I press the elevator's button right past the moving lasers the game crashes and I get the following message:

out of instances, maximum is 2560 - contact a designer. If you are one, contact a programmer

As it stands now I can't continue playing. :(

Unfortunately my game also stutters/crashes a lot especially after I go to China.

The game would always stutter and hang for a second or so after loading and and random times. Sometimes still experience the crashes.

I'm running the game with DX11 off and tessellations off and SOAA off Edge AA and everything else normal =(

I tested my gpu for an hour on occt and no errors.

i can deal with the stuttering, but the crashing is extremely frustrating for me. i really really hope that is number one on their list of things to fix...

i'm gonna try rolling back my drivers possibly too. i don't know what else to do.

I tried to swap out my X-FI card for my Audigy 2 ZS, with all the needed driver uninstalling and installing, with hopes that it might be related to the audio card but no luck. Same issue.

Just an update on my crashing.

My video card is a 6950 with a modified 6970 BIOS. Every game has worked fine up until Deus Ex but I decided to mess around with the card and see if it was causing the issues. I decided to lower to clock rate closer to the original 6950 defaults and I managed to get much further without crashing. I got past the whole first dialogue scene, I was never able to do that before. I haven't had a crash yet but it seems to have been related to my original messing around with my card.

I'm getting crashes whenever I try to run in DX 11. The game stutters like crazy in DX9 regardless of any settings, however, the game runs fine in dx11 mode with all settings maxed, I just can't play for very long before it crashes.

The latest patch appears to have fixed this issue, as well as the crash during Faridah's conversation. However, I've since had a crash with a Windows 7 "program has stopped working" error.

I was slightly lucky in that the new patch helped me go for LONGER than previously (though I suppose that could have been a fluke) but it still crashed in the end.

However, the loading times are much better, so at least rebooting the game doesn't take as long haha.

My game seems to crash every time I enter the elevator after you do that laser room tripwire part
Iv tried installing new/old drivers, disabling sli, turning all the settings off, running the game in administrator, verify integrity of the game cache. I get this crash report saying please contact a programmer or a designer? saying iv run out of instances? please help

Does anyone else have this crash, do I have to re download the game?

If I redownload will my save be gone?

So, for the people with the dialogue crashing problem (the left and top options would result in a CTD), I have an update.

Last night, I performed a windows update that installed three updates for Microsoft's .Net 4.0 Framework. At the same time, I downloaded and installed the latest version of my audio driver (ASUS Xonar DX, latest driver version ends in 1794). After the required restart, I loaded up DEHR and amazingly my crashing disappeared. I played for about 3.5 hours crash free before shutting down to go to sleep. I don't know if those four updates had anything to do with fixing the issue, but my issues have disappeared nonetheless. Might be worth a try if you're having the same issue.

I managed to fix my crashing issue by turning off Direct X 11. The graphics can get a little choppy on occasion, but that's better than the game outright crashing to desktop.

thanks, but i'd already tried all of that stuff. the one thing i didn't try was loading another save. looks like my auto-save was bad. not sure why this would show that error but it's working again and i'm so thankful lol.

Hello,
Like many here I have been having problems with the game since the beginning. My problem has been that after a few minutes of playing the game freezes followed by a crash to desktop shortly afterwards. After trying pretty much every possible fix mentioned in these forums and having no luck, I took matters into my own hands. I have a pair of Zotac gtx 580 amp factory overclocked cards running on SLI. I decided to underclock them to regular stock speeds and since then the game has not crashed on me.

Before, the game used to crash usually after 5 minutes of playing (sometimes less using directx 11), now it hasn't crashed in over an hour of game time running with everything on max. It could be that my cards where having instability problems with the overclock. However, there is no way for me to be 100% sure it will never crash again, it is however a step in the right direction.

My cards are nvidia, but it is possible that it could be game related code that is making the software sensitive to instability and therefore could possibly apply to ATi cards as well.

I used the free MSI afterburner to underclock my cards to default/normal specs. You can get it here. http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/ it should work for both manufacturers.

You might be wondering if this has an impact in performance. I couldn't notice any difference going from 815 clock speed to 772.

cheers, and hopes this helps.

Since the first patch (the one that fixed the loading times) my game has started to crash randomly.
I can walk around for about a minute before I crash. Also whenever I try to enter or exit a building (that gives me a loading screen), the game crashes.

I've got a ATI/AMD gfx-card and running it on Win7.

I keep getting the driver has run out of memory. Very frustrating as it seems to work sometimes, and not others. Took a risk by buying it on the PC but I thought I'd get it because of the original. Really annoyed I can't play :(

Hello, I am having constant crashing while playing the game. I finished the introduction chapter and now in the lobby just on my way to pritchard my game crashes. First the sounds stutters, it goes to desktop and then the game closes with the error that Deus Ex has crashed. I have a MSI 790fx , AMD Phenom 2 X4, EVGA 580gtx no overclock, and 4 gb of kingston ddr3 ram. Both hard drives are working fine, other games work fine, and I have no desire to start messing around with other user options just for this game.

EDIT: I have also tried most of the fixes described in this thread. I have not tried playing from a clean wipe and I have not tried the make another user account fix, but most others I have tried. I have even tried turning off each background program one by one in hopes of finding some reason it does not play.

EDIT: Okay so far I can play the longest with DX11 disabled. I still have one crash after doing that but thats many less crashes than with other fixes and settings.

Nope, newest patch fixes nothing for me....

Verified cache

Started a new game (in case my save was the problme), played right up to the point you are thrown through the window... got to the loading screen and it locks up completely.

Restarted game, crashed at first bit of legalese...

Restarted game, got to main menu, selected continue. Played through the previous room, got to being thrown through glass again... starts to load and crash to desktop.

Error message "Wrong DRM version data 39b432e1, code 15 rebuild of
pc-w\sarifhq_lobbypart1_civilian_female_officeworker_f.drm needed"

Re-verified cache (again), restarted, stuttering audio, got to menu, selected continue - Crash to desktop with following error message.

I too am having the game freeze and crash playing on DirectX11. Works fine on DirectX9 though. Not that I'm happy with that, the game looks infinitely better running in DX11 so the sooner that it's fixed the better.
