Thanks JaqTaar for a new video footage:

Here's their video to go along with the screens:

There are a few seconds of gameplay here and there between the questions, so guys, what do you think about new version of the HUD?

Here are few screens captured from the video (apparently PS3):

You can see some new HUD in these, familiar takedown in the second picture (facepunch), seeing through walls in fourth picture:

Hacking (you don't move through wires like on Sarif website, instead you have a cursor and click on nodes):

Laser sights on guard's ass (there is no HUD in this scene, maybe it's not the final version), also guards take cover after they are alarmed:
EDIT: Oh dumb me, it's prologue with fleshy Adam and no HUD...

That's the Fleshy Adam section. It comes without a HUD.

I've heard about that, but no health? No ammo counter?

Infinity ammo, remember? And indeed no health indicator. There will probably still be jelly to let you know you're down to your final pieces of health.

Thanks I_I.

Have you noticed that small number next to aug selection? Probably number of takedowns you have energy for. You need full pip for one takedown, invisibility drains the power continuously.

That HUD looks a damn sight better than the crapola in Dragon Age 2. I don't mind it at all, actually looks quite spiffy.

What is that X (M1 34)? Please tell me it is not what I think it is.

As mentioned in the other thread, the graphics are noticeably better in this footage. Good start.

Also notice that at 1:44, we see what happens when Adam gets shot. The screen is reddened, but it's very brief, and it really is just to indicate damage being taken, it's not sustained to show low health. As long as that's all it is, I'm fine with that.

My German's not great, so I couldn't understand much of what was being said. I assume we'll be getting this stuff in English later today though, so no big deal.

But....was any of the gameplay footage in that video in first person? (Note: This is a rhetorical question. Yes, some of it was, but only a very small amount of it.) To those who've been saying "but it's primarily first person still!": give it up. It's default first person, but any time there are enemies around, you will be playing this game in third person.

Loads of third person, again. Seems to be the main feature of all of the videos they release. The possibility of playing HR without third person just seems less and less realistic with everything they release.

HUD is way too far in from the edge of the screen, hopefully the PC version isn't like that. I'll never understand that trend.

I'd say subtle enough. In thay Eyefinity demo it has very high contrast with sharp edges and bright yellow, but this one is a lot better.

You're right, but I think they will tweak it before release.

we defintely need to see more first person shooting.

I like the HUD. Would prefer something more transparant though.

Looks amazing! I hope the final product won't be just looks.

P.S. Does anyone think they should've just dropped first person in favor of third person because this perspective change is killing the presentation?

P.P.S. Yes, I do prefer FP in DX but with the intended design of Human Revolution they should've went third person all the way

ZakKa89

Hell no if it was ALL third person I wouldn't even buy the game. The mix is fine with me.

The third person is interesting. Have any of you played Brothers In Arms Hells Highway? That was a first person shooter split between a cover system http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXemUEP3-A4. It actually worked well in BIA but Deus Ex is more than just a shooting game. I get the feeling that the devs should just put the whole game in third person(I know, blasphemy). I hope it works well.

The graphics look good but there is something about the environment that is lacking. Yes, it looks the eerie atmosphere from DX1 where you feel totally alone and do not know who to trust. Maybe because everything is coated in gold. Can you guys relate?

Character animations are really good in dialogues. They're quite lively. I'm currently playing Witcher and I think it's one of the best RPGs in recent years but it has horrible body animations when talking, actually there are no animations. Props to the team who made conversations look interesting and more real in DX: HR. Gesticulation really makes the difference.

Hit feedback is nice, there's no red jelly. Red contrast is brief as well as some neat blur of the vision.

Are you playing it with the latest update? There have been a few since release that add, among other things, improved animations.

Oh dear god no. I don't like the perspective changes at all, but at least I can try to play in first person this way, even if it means I die really easily. If this game was only in third person, I wouldn't even consider buying it.

Give us the choice between fully third or fully first though? Yeah, that'd be fine.

[EDIT] @ Rainhands: Yeah, I've played BiA: HH, and in fact really enjoyed it - but as you say, that's far more of a straight shooter than Deus Ex is (or at least, is meant to be.) And to be honest, the third person cover felt like cheating in that anyway: in the first game, you had to be really careful peeking out of cover to scout your enemies' locations, but in Hell's Highway you just went into cover and could see where all your enemies were anyway. It removed a lot of the tension and atctical aspect from the game. Still a good game, but would've been better without third person (like it would've been better without the damnable vehicle sections....)

Now I'm playing The Witcher: Enhanced Edition (patch 1.5) and dialogues seem to be "ok" (nothing special though). Sorry for OT.

Well, it should be auto-patched all the way up.

Anyways, time to start reading all those DX previews!

Am I the only one tremendously excited over the properly-formatted e-magazines? Also from the Game Reactor preview, television feeds seem to be confirmed! Just these two things alone will add a tremendous amount of immersion into the game world. I think the newspaper editorials of the original Deus Ex were one of the best 'world-building' touches on top of the level design of hub areas.

I do have some consternation that my naturally tendency to explore and read everything will conflict with the desire to save the hostages, but don't get me wrong; I love the touch and realism of having the situation time-dependent.

Some Polish chap has taken the pure gameplay footage from that preview and put it together in a video with only the game sounds left in. Thought it was worth a post.

I too am a bit worried that my explorer tendencies will impede my success in the missions, but i don´t love the touch of realism in it, i do hope it´s used only limitedly and we are told when time is of the essence (i like exploring and hate being rushed in games, i want to take my time with things), occasional time based missions are fine, but they get annoying fast.

Oh I bet you'll get the chance to explore still. The time they describe in the example is getting hurried out of your home base! I guarantee you go back there and aren't constantly rushed out.

If you look at .43 when Adam's about to take down the black dude...

Perhaps the first person view should be retained at the moment his hand reaches forward to tap the dude on his shoulder ; and THEN it could switch to 3rd person.

Seeing the hand reach out from the original first person view would cement the transition from 1st person to 3rd person a bit better imo. In movie direction & editing it's refered to as directing the viewers point of attention.

I'm beginning to wonder whether that's within the engine's capabilities to render in FP.

I wonder how many of the design choices are down to the limitations of the engine.

I think it's a matter of putting a locater ( like in Maya ) on the dude's shoulder, when he's within armlength reach...then inverse kinematics blends into the motion data of the takedown.

He lands in a net of razor wire, and then gets eaten by ants for three days... you know how slow FEMA is.

He needs a lot of work done by the time Sarif retrieves him.

You have better cinematographic sense than the developers of the game, apparently.
