I like what Steam has done now for both Portal and The Witcher 2... incentivize pre-orders by offering the pre-order at a discount.

I think DX:HR should immediately do this.

Once again, this punishes a lot of people.

Once again, this punishes a lot of people.

It doesn't punish anyone. It only rewards those who preorder. Punishment would be a stern knuckleduster to the mouth... not the mere absence of a reward.

You nansy pansy kids today have no idea what punishment is. ;)

I'm with Pinky on this one. Incentive for pre-order w/o changing (tarnishing) the game. I also like the minecraft-style beta on pre-order. Really good for getting some cash for small dev teams before release.

Steam rewards late buyers even more, with sales.

Exactly why I'm not preordering Portal 2. It'll be 50% off within four months, just like Left4Dead 2.

Yes but with late cheap purchases you need to *wait!* With this scheme you get a discount and still get to play on day one, which is why I like it!

Yes. I don't see how that "punishes" anyone if a company did that for all retailers on the first day of taking pre orders

I'll still take my Witcher 2 without Valve's bloatware, thanks.

Well, there was a preorder of DXHR Augmented edition which totaled 30 (29.99) GBP. That kind of money for preordering collectors' edition is pretty much incentivey I'd say. But people snoozed and they apparently lost as you can't get that kind of a deal any more.

i'm still glad that i preordered at that price. It is always enough time to cancel preorders so i always secure preorder if the price is low just in case :) For Example i still have a preorder on Diablo 3 at price 19.99 GBP. Did that when shops started to take preorders on that game.
