Oh man, how could I forget. Voltaire's song Almost Human can go well with Adam Jensen quite well

:nut:

"I'm just like you
made by he
despised by they
I'm almost me
I'm nearly human look at me
I'm almost a human being

these tears are real
I'm jealousy I'm spite and hate
to the core I'm mean
I'm nearly human look at me
I'm almost a human being
I'm just like you
better than he
to hell with they
I'm almost me
I'm nearly human
Pity me I'm almost a human being"

Now, if you were to tell me this obscure musician was known for writing transhumanistic songs, then I would call "conspiracy".

Listen to almost human. Doesn't directly mention transhumanism but it sounds similiar.

A single song that Deus Ex fans can vaguely appreciate is not the same as being known for writing transhumanstic songs. ;)

This is all I meant by still being coincidental. The grimy savages that we are, yeah, we can pretend there are links. But its not quite strong enough for me to claim as consequential.

Yeah, no guitars OR whiny vocals. Whatever shall we do?

Douche vocals are no better than whiny vocals. They both suck.

Shralla
29th Sep 2010, 19:53
"Douce vocals."

Good to see we're all being so objective in our judgement of music. What does that even mean? He's a good singer. You can't argue that fact. He hits all the notes he means to when he means to, and he has a style that is 100% his own. He doesn't whine, scream, pout, or sound sad all the time. I'm really at a loss as to why it's apparently so "terrible."

zombieturtle01
29th Sep 2010, 19:59
In all seriousness, I do personally believe that the side profile photo did actually influence one of the Artists who worked on designing Adam Jensen.

Pinky_Powers
29th Sep 2010, 20:01
I don't know that it's terrible. But I certainly wouldn't call him a "good singer". There's far more to singing than just hitting all the notes.

I listened to the Almost Human song, and based solely on that, there was nothing that showcased any really vocal talent. He may have some. But you won't find it while he does his best to sound like a douchebag.

And then there's the song itself, which doesn't possess any quality I'd feel good about wasting my time listening to; the lyrics are poor, the melody is uninspired... douche vocals...

In short, Voltaire is not for me. ;)

Shralla
29th Sep 2010, 20:10
And you've still completely failed to point out any facet of the song, its lyrics, or the vocals that make it subpar. I don't even like Voltaire that much, but you're just being ignorant and accusing for seemingly no reason. "Does his best to sound like a douchebag" doesn't even MEAN anything at all when you're talking about music, and "uninspired" is the widest blanket term possible when describing any kind of art at all, yet without anything to back it up and explain it, it too is completely meaningless. If you're going to **** on an artist, at least be prepared to explain why in meaningful terms.

Pinky_Powers
29th Sep 2010, 20:20
Listen old sport, it's music; either you like it or you don't. I don't.

And I thought I was very articulate. "Douchebag" seemed expressive enough. :)

Shralla
29th Sep 2010, 20:38
I agree that you like it or you don't, but I also support the notion that any likes or dislikes can be properly articulated with sufficient thought. Maybe I just overthink things.

You mean like the Dr. Steel one? How do you mean "scary"?

Remington
1st Oct 2010, 04:15
Well, not scary so much as creepy/gloomy/dark. Why can't there be happier songs about transhumanism, rather than focusing on the undermining of humanity by half-robots. There is so much of the good stuff that these songs are missing...

One idea (don't think about it seriously): Something more like "I Believe I Can Fly" but with wing augmentations...

But you get my point, right?

Shralla
1st Oct 2010, 05:04
I guess, but that's not really what Singularity is about. He's welcoming the change from flesh to something better.

You want to hear something that's REALLY down on transhumanism, listen to the album 01011001 by Ayreon. It's a metal opera all about the future of a race that lives forever in robot bodies.

Look it even says so here in this interview:
http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/06/16/interview-the-art-of-deus-ex-human-revolution/

If you’ve been following our Deus Ex week stuff, you’d probably recognise Jonathan Jacques-Belletete if you saw him. Because he’s not just the game’s Art Director, responsible for its odd blend of Renaissance fashions and cyberpunk tech, he’s also the model the player character Adam Jensen is based on.

I knew the first time I saw his interview, and the name that goes with the narcissism - Belletete - confirmed it for me. But I'm guessing everyone already knew way before me and I look like a fool now.

Pinky_Powers
1st Oct 2010, 23:39
Yeah, I didn't think I needed to even mention that, because I thought everyone already knew. I figured someone would just say "Whatever! That's just what they claim. But look at those pictures! Clearly Adam's modeled on Voltaire!"

They're starting to float increasingly generalized human archetypes to eliminate variety and facilitate control. It's part of a secret program of population control through by reducing the genetic pool, resulting in a race of variations on a theme - clones of an archetype. Voltaire and Belletete are in reality two clones with slight, deliberate variations to avoid suspicion.

That explains the windmills around that hole in the ocean.

those are wind turbines, and they're common in industrial use. wind mills are used for grinding grain. they don't generate electricity.

that hole is a caisson, used for damming water for construction on the sea floor.

it is highly unlike that specific scene is a reference to don quixote's fight with the dragon/windmill. the story also bears no resemblance to that of deus ex. don quixote was a satire on the idea of chivalry.
