the newest co-op centric entry in the Tomb Raider series of games is shipping without online play functionality… for the time being. According to Square-Enix, the game (which will be a timed exclusive for Xbox Live Arcade until September when it is released for the PSN and Steam for PC) will be shipping without online play functionality, which will be patched later on when the game ships for the other platforms.

Well, I guess I am waiting for the Steam version, then.

So what's the point of an early download, with no online play?

Not everyone cares to play it with other people so for those people, no online co-op at launch won't matter

Well actually it does matter. Online co-op is the best and most promoted feature of this game. (Though to me personally it doesn't matter, I won't get Gold this month anyway. :p)

The XBLA people who download it get to play the game earlier, and might have some local friends they can play co-op with. Not everyone will only want to play the game online. Not having the feature will not effect those only interested in single player, or those who have enough local friends to play the game with. Since when have Tomb Raider fans not been interested in getting their hands on Lara's new game as quickly as they could. None of the Tomb Raider games ever had an online mode, did not seem to prevent people wanting to play them. Maybe Microsoft think single player and local co-op is still enough to interest fans who want to buy it for the Xbox 360. They will still have the online mode the same day all the other versions have it.

And the title of this thread is a bit misleading, the Xbox 360 players not having online functionality on launch is not because of XBLA, it is because it is not ready yet.

Well we now know how this turned out.

So does that mean, Josh1122-naraku co-op is out of the question then? Was so looking forward to it. ;)

The single player isometric view of Lara blows a bit... So lonely, not as much as with a friend. 3rd person view is much better for single player, the view is superb from back there... :p
