Also, you should've composited this picture of Adam (http://www.nanoaugur.net/dx3/tn.png) over the cover, and you know it. ;)

Wow - you guys are harsh. You want me to hold his arms back so you can get a few more shots in?

Dang - this is what bugs me about this place, someone trys to post something positive and we all find a way to pis$ all over it.

Each and every one of you that did that get a -rep for responding to the OP with all negative and no positive comments.

Ashamed of yourselves you should be!

You have a point. He's clearly a fan and did a good job of expressing that.

lol what
You appear to be missing a complement (What does Adam witness?)

EDIT: I just read PenguinsFriend's post. True, it is worth pointing out that it's a good effort and a good demonstration of OP's loyalty as a fan, but I think hypercriticism is something to be expected from the average Deus Ex-loving crowd, and I'm afraid it's not my natural reaction to point out good things unless their goodness is very immediately apparent

Yeah, seriously, mellow out dudes. They look pretty nice to me, especially considering the lack of resources available; thanks to Eidos' blackout policy.

Constructive criticism: Reduce the logo sizes, rename "Technical Specifications" to "Minimum Requirements", enlarge the gameplay pictures in the back. I also wouldn't put that Adam pic on the cover, but that's just me.

Question: What's up with the fat spine? Multiple CD's?

I like the back cover, reminds me of a lot of movie box designs, though maybe the system specs could be a little less prominent (seems like half the time they only have a sticker for specs these days anyways). I'd probably prefer the body text to use something a little less fanciful, maybe using the Deus Ex font just for headlines or the first line of copy.

The disk is looking pretty good, too. Might like AJ to be a little more prominent, and maybe bring in some of that golden hue for a little less disjointedness. Maybe a light gradient emanting from behind him or something. I don't, I'd toy with it for a bit, so what works best.

I think I'd do a bit of the same for the cover. Make AJ more prominent, raise him up a tad maybe. And I guess I'm something of a minimalist, but I agree with MrsP, cover looks a little crowded. Making AJ more central to the cover, maybe darkening up the background a bit or something, would help this without completely axing the cityscape.

Overall, I think it's pretty well done. It remind me somewhat of the original cover design with JC is the center and a buildings behind him. But I think you'll want to take some cues from that design and give it a little more focus, tighten things up. Other than that, looks good. :)

This must be some sort of karmic balance thing: compliment one guy, gotta make sure to be a dick to a few others at the same time, huh?

To be honest I think this is pretty close to what it could be(nice job op) - remember that you wont see the front, back and spine of the box all at the same time like you are here, which maybe why people are saying it looks too 'busy'.

I would change the text color though on the disc - to a muted gray as white against black is a little too harsh.

Not bad at all. As mentioned, you should probably be more precise with the typography. Also, I'm not sure that tint of green really fits the overall colour palette. We'll, it could fit, but maybe a bit more carefully placed.

Overall a nice contribution!

Good effort, but a cleaner look would probably work a bit better, IMO. It's just kind of cluttered. (slightly) Smaller font for the description, a smaller Tech Spec square. Push up the logo on the front.

But it does look very cool. :)

Hmm.

I'd offer some critiques but it seems the care-bear brigade VS the roaster squad battle is in full swing tonight. :) At least on the cover, the CD seems fine to me, could use some polish but overall well done.

Tell you what I'll do instead, I'll go make my own version which should point out the things I feel are badly made in this version. I'll try to keep his rough layout. Then, if the author actually wants to hear it, I'll try to explain it in words as well, in PM if he wishes it kept private. Still, I'd advise you let people "complain" because you learn a valuable skill as someone who produces stuff: 1) feedback on your work and 2) sorting white noise from usable information which lets you improve. If you ask me, "omg dis rules" and "omg dis sux" is, to me, equally useless in the long run to improvement as an artist. :)

Lighten up Exian. If someone is trolling then don't respond and eventually the Mods take care of it. If you react to their posting then it motivates them to register again and again.

To the OP. Good effort. I like the back cover and the disc. Like other's I'd add that simplicity would add elegance and give a more "epic" feel if you were to rework the front cover.

I usually don't reply, now I did. Too much 12 year olds on this forum who have just arrived to the internet for the first time and find trolling hillarious; it's laughable. Let him make more accounts so he can waste his time being an idiot more, it'll just make me feel happier. H4H4H4H4H4 TR0LL!NG 5O FUNN3H, not.

You've actually managed to make the text on the back even worse.

Try study typography if you're serious (or just want to improve) your hobby.

Kalman11
11th Jul 2010, 16:17
okay

Exian
11th Jul 2010, 18:20
Yeah the writing on the back is very bulged now, doesn't contrast well with the rest of the stuff on there. Also, try not using a white background for the system requirements. On the front, move "Eidos" a bit more to the right.

Other than that, I love it.

Fluffis
12th Jul 2010, 03:47
The layout is better. Less cluttered, but like people said: unfortunately, the text got worse.

Try doing a transparent Tech Spec square, and see if that works, because the white background breaks off too much from the rest.

I still think you should try moving up the logo on the front. I think it would make the front look cleaner, and it would give it a sort of ominous "Big Brother" feel to it. It's hard to explain. The logo represents so much in the way of conspiracies and such, that it should feel unattainable (distance to Adam), yet like the Sword of Damocles (as in hanging over his head). Try placing it so that no part goes below the "E" in "Deus", on the spine.

Mehh... The front's good but the back's still kind of muddled up... On the specs, move the edge of the white box more.. So stretch it to the right because the "Ghz" almost has no space whereas the left edge has. Also, the description font is better now but it's really mixed up, try aligning the writing on both sides so it looks more neat.

Everything's great apart from Adam; he looks like he's been cut and pasted there from another image which probably was the case?

The front looks great! The font looks a lot better. Align to middle may look cleaner, though.
I think you're making it a bit harder for yourself than necessary with the copyright text at the bottom. It's too big, essentially. :) Try to push that down a bit, and let the screenys follow.

Hey this is cool.

Could you maybe do a different version just to amuse me? I haven't got the mad skills to do it which is why I'm asking you.

But could you do one with Adam snapping a guys neck from behind while looking at us out of the cover? Or better yet, have the "guard" facing us and bowed backwards as Adam shoves that forearm kife thingy out through his chest while looking at us over the victims shoulder - that would be awesome!

Good job man - now can you do one with him killing someone? And maybe also do a collecter's edition with Barrat shouting "I'll take you to hell!"

Oh, and also do a Christmas Special version with Adam wearing a Sanat hat and a big red nose - the back of the box should read "Adam was a security guard in the wrong place at the wrong time. Since they ripped his arms off, revenge is the only thing on his mind!"

It's called constructive criticism actually, helps him realise where he can improve more than half-hearted compliments.
