View Full Version : Which type of Health System do you prefer in video games ? ...

So i found out a few days ago that Red Dead Redemption uses the automatic health regeneration system ... whether this is a good or bad thing for Redemption is another story (once i get to play it i'll have a rambling opinion , of course) , but this had made me wonder once again the oh-so-common question ... Which health system do you prefer in video games ? the now common automatic regeneration ? the health bars / meters ? a little mix of both (such as in Far Cry 2) ? or does it depend on the type of games ? and do you have any new suggestions of your own for future games ? ...

First of all: none of them are realistic, so let's get that invalid argument out of the way.

Now. It depends on the type of games, really. I wouldn't want to play Gears of War and look for a health pack after every other enemy that I kill...
In my opinion: health items work best for survival horror. When damaged, one can just say: "It's ok, I don't need to go to the hospital, I've got health drinks!" Also, in my opinion: item management adds to the tension...

Word of God ...

Or in this case , Word of Dog (Man) ...

I think the Far Cry 2 system is my favourite, but I don't mind the regenerating heath in certain circumstances. I thought it actually fit well in RDR.

No doubt , but you can't imagine how much i was disapointed to hear that ... to me , the lack of a health bar in this game is a bit like the ending for some people ... i mean i was expecting this idea that you have to buy bandages and patch yourself up all the time , or rest in a hotel rooms for a few days if you get shot in the leg waiting for it to heal up , if you don't take care of yourself you'll be a physically broken man , making subsequent missions a lot harder ...

Well ... maybe the 'perfect' western game will come out in the next decade , one good western per decade is good enough , i guess ...

Well, you can buy health items that heal you instantly, but they are only really useful if you play on expert mode. Which you should if you have any sort of pride.

It's the Hard mode isn't it ? then you should know that ever since Dead Men i've always played every game on the hard difficulty on my first playthrough (with the exceptions of Guns of the Patriot , Haze , Far Cry 2 and inFamous) ...

Plus it's beautiful when i unlock the trophies for "you completed hard mode" at the same time as "you finished the game" ... God i'm so proud of myself *Grievous stands on top of the hill , with the tantalizing skyline in the background , looking over his majestic utopia* ...

It's the mode where enemies do more damage to you and you have absolutely zero auto aim. The other settings decrease the amount of damage done by enemies and give you snap aiming and 100% auto aiming on the normal and casual settings respectively. And you had better use expert aim online as well.

Lol , it's not even hard mode then , it's "the way the game should be played" mode ...

I'm guessing Chris, Jill and every other character is actually high. They are not killing zombie's. They are just mixing differen't type's of weed and just...well getting stoned.

I agree. There were some good bits, some classic bits even *remembers the business card scene* but overall it just wasn't that great of a film.

It's a movie with a bunch of great scenes that don't add up to a great film. It will be remembered for it's parts, not it's whole. Is that what you were trying to say? If so, I agree.
