View Full Version : Retro Gamer is "Loving Lara" and there's also a new LCGoL interview!

Just got back from town after looking in my local WHSmiths and found that the new issue of Retro Gamer puts Lara in the spotlight (and on the front cover) this issue!

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i59/lilhanhan123/RG_078.jpg

Like their usual retrospectives there's 8 pages (There's 10 pages dedicated to Lara when including the LCGoL interview) explaining the history with quotes from the creators, a timeline showing even the most obscure titles of the series (they even included the Sky Digital games!) and interviews from other game designers to see what they thought of the series and how it might have influenced them. There's also all the info we already know about the models and films, but it's still an awesome read anyway.

As for the interview I'm currently trying to scan it (as my scanner decides when it wants to work. I'm sure it's got a mind of it's own!) so bear with me. ^.^;

EDIT- Okay, I managed to scan the interview. I'm not scanning the retrospective though because it wouldn't exactly be fair to the magazine publisher if I did (because no one would buy the issue!). Just click on each half of the thumbnails to see each page. :)

You're welcome; and cool, I've just noticed that you're a fan of MST3K.

Maybe you're being a bit pessimistic, but then again we all know what to expect when it comes to some fanboys/girls (of any franchise)! Although I've noticed that the majority of the members here are optimistic about the game, so I don't think we'll get any of those comments... well unless I've just jinxed it by saying that!

Yep, going by fans views so far they seem to be taking it well... but I remember someone that said something like that, not on this forum like:eek:

Well, it's a new direction for the franchise and we all know that not everyone likes change. Though it is quite a shock when someone starts a rant like the example you included in your post; usually I don't know whether to get annoyed with their behaviour or laugh in disbelief! :p

The whole retrospective sounds awesome, would love to get my hands on this issue. Do you know any reliable online store that would ship worldwide? :o

And, of course, thanks for the scans - much appreciated! :thumb:

The magazine publisher has it's own online store where you can buy back issues. You have to pay for the postage charge but according to the FAQ it's added to the overall cost in the checkout so that you're not surprised by any extra fees.

Here's the link- http://www.imagineshop.co.uk/magazines/retrogamer.html; and I apologise to any of the mods if you feel that I sound like one big advertisement! If you think I'm breaking any rules feel free to delete this post.

I know that there's a rule about advertisements and to be honest, although I am helping a member I'm guessing a post like this fits into that category? Like I said before if that's the case, I sincerely apologise and you can delete this post. I just don't want to get into trouble, that's all. :o

Thanks for that a whole lot, lilhanhan. I would have never found it were it not for your kind assistance. :)

Ha I was just talking with someone the other day about Tomb Raider and how I can still remember how cool the first game was when it came out, polygonal graphics hadn't been around that long at that point (at least to that commercial level) and I remember after firing up the old PS One and starting the game, just the way the levels where built and how you would come back to areas you had been at hours before but it a totally different way, it was so friggin cool.

Just got my copy of the magazine, very nice although I was a bit disappointed they never went into more depth with Jeremy Heath-Smith. Loved the little article on page 10, Lara Croft: Keeping games honest.

Sorry for double posting, but for those who have the magazine and might not have ever seen the old Mean Machines Sega and GameFan articles referred to on page 10 there are actually scans available of all of them. It is too many for me to try posting here but they can be read over on tombraiderforums.com (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=112245) They are the links near the bottom of the first post.
