View Full Version : [E3 2010] Deux Ex: Human Revolution - high resolution

I know we all have seen these images, but I believe always in the form of scans. Now I found them in higher resolution, I think the original one.

Curiosity

1. The first image is part of the background of official DXHR channel on YouTube: note the streetlight near the head of the woman.

2. The second image, I think, should represent the club The Hive, where Adam is looking for a man named Tong. Much of the head of the man next to Adam seems to have undergone a surgical operation, if not more. Or it could simply be a fad!

3. In the third image, Adam points the gun at a man who seems to have undergone several surgeries and grafts mechanical anyone I've ever seen. Man's left shoulder reads Sarif.

4. In the fourth image the Sun finally appears. Note the beautiful interplay of light and shadows in the room.

5. The fifth image speaks for itself. The fact that a camera is out of use, brings me to the very first Deus Ex, during the mission of rescuing agent Hermann, in the statue. Even there, one of the cameras gave no signal.

6. In the sixth and last image in the lower right you can see the strange mask. The video can be seen in the city where Adam looks out of his apartment.

I can really get the Deus Ex vibe from the first screenshot, but all the screenshots look bizarrely illustrated. I don't think they've mentioned an illustrated look in art interviews so far, so this could be interesting. Then again, this is probably pre-alpha. The end product will no doubt look much cleaner and spiffier.

Kodaemon
20th Jun 2010, 17:01
Actually, they did mention they're stylising the game to a graphic novel look.

It had better change to accommodate a mouse interface as well. An interface like that, based solely on buttons, risks feeling clunky on a PC.

I don´t see how pushing one button is more clunky then moving a mouse cursor to the same "button" on the games interface

Seeing as the keyboard has so many buttons, the mouse rout is far better. That's why they invented the mouse.

What's the start key on a PC?

It'll be a good way to see if, as they claim, the lead platform is the PC. If it is, then we should just go to the menu. If not then... all hell shall be released from the Pandoricum.:nut:

Some keyboards do have them (activating the Start menu), but fortunately not enough for devs to start considering it an option for starting a game. :)

Hmmm. Doctor Who called it a Pandorica the other day (not that I watched the episode, just saw an advert, so I could be wrong), although I always took some objection to it for some reason. It just sounds...inelegant. Like a plural.

Still, I concede, since it's fiction anyway, Pandorica it is.

EDIT: Yup, just checked, only called a pandorica in Doctor Who, not called a Pandoricum anywhere, just Pandora's box. You are quite right.

Although I wonder why not "um"...

I guess The Pandorica makes it sound more like a space-thingy. It does sound a bit more like a spaceship than The Pandoricum. I think they wanted to add as many red herrings as possible before the finale.

Enough OT, I suppose, yeah? :D

Anyone tried their hand at some pattern recognition, to see if there is something indicated in those light bulbs? There could be a reason why only some of them are lit.

Esnuk
20th Jun 2010, 20:56
About the opera house... if you look at the Reveal Trailer, while Adam looks at the city, you see the billboard that says "IL METAMORFOSI", which is a word derived from Italian, where "IL" is the article "The" in English, and "METAMORFOSI" is "Metamorphosis."

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/656/ilmetamorfosi.jpg

Since this kind of mask or mythological figure, is beginning to appear more than once, I would appreciate if someone can do a search about. I have made through Google and Wikipedia, but without success.

Kodaemon
20th Jun 2010, 21:04
The reveal trailer has IL METAMORFOSI indeed, but the screenshot most definitely says "DETROIT OPERA HOUSE". So, I say Il Metamorfosi is an opera being performed at the time the game takes place, at the Detroit Opera House, and the mask serves as the poster image for it.

EDIT: Also, Ovid's Metamorphoses ends with the deification of Julius Caesar. Hmm, deification... Deus Ex...

So I'm looking at some pics of the absolutely imperious interiors of the Detroit Opera House:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6896/detroitoperahousechande.jpg

And I notice they're quite similar in feel to this piece of DX3 concept art:
http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/7029/balconye.jpg

Once again, this shows how even when when EM shows us something seemingly stylistically outrageous for the DX world, it's probably somewhat grounded in reality ;)

Can't wait to commit another murder at an opera house. As Mr. 47 you got to kill two targets at the Paris opera house during a repetition of Tosca. It's so rare to kill people in opera houses.

16:10 is the old phased out ratio. You guys need to buy new monitors.

The game is literally made for 16:9 (as primary markets are consoles) and its FOV/segmented HUD. Of course it doesn't mean it doesn't support the other ratios, but for the optimum experience, the standard of 16:9 is the default today.

Jerion
23rd Jun 2010, 23:07
2560x1650? 2560x1440 gives you a wider view angle in games with barely any loss of resolution. :)

Pinky_Powers
23rd Jun 2010, 23:24
I'm on a 22", 1680x1050. I'm sorta glad for it, as my computer is old enough now that if I tried playing at those higher resolutions I'd have to lower other settings to achieve a smooth frame-rate. But as is, I can maxed out most game (Crysis excluded) at native res, and have a playable experience.

HDMI doesn't affect the graphics of the game, it just allows for a better out-put signal.

If you have a decent computer with a nice monitor, it will no doubt look far superior on Windows.

Only for television. For computers, 16:10 is superior, as it gives you extra space for taskbars and such. Also, it's much closer to the golden ratio. 16:10 MASTER RACE > DIRTY 16:9 PEASANTS :rasp:
