Moderator Updates:

Full name: YELENA FEDOROVA
Fedorova is typically a surname, quite popular, meaning, literally, "of the line of Fedor". Fedor is a Russian equivalent of the male name Theodore (greek - gift of God).

Yelena Fedorova (rus: Елена Фёдорова) appears to be one of the game's antagonists and a member of the Tyrants the augmented black-ops team who attacked the Sarif Industries research labs. She is mechanical-augmented with the augmentation that allows for invisibility and a cybernetic leg prosthesis. She has a sentimental affair with Ben Saxon.

Trivia
In Deus Ex: Icarus Effect [1] Federova never speaks, implying that she is a mute. It is also mentioned (p. 270) that, "sometimes it seemed as if he [Namir] had never known her [Fedorova] to speak at all." Suggesting that she did speak at some point in the past.

With those prosthetic feet/ankles, I bet she can run fast and with little effort. That could get scary.
Hehe, interesting you mention hooves. It reminded me of the bull/minotaur symbolism we discussed in earlier days.

Distractions can be lethal! :naughty:
Oh, it wouldn't distract me in combat. I become extremely competitive in any kind of zero-sum game, and I stop seeing a person in flesh or mind behind the abstract opponent. Whether the competition is mental or physical doesn't really make a difference. But after it's all done, if either one of us is still alive, I'd ask her what time she gets off work.

All hail the thoughtful Mod!
Seconded.

I thought it would be MyImmortal who tweaked the titles. You are a very neat and organized person in life, aren't you?

She is Major, well a new version of her since she doesn't have to be naked to use thermo-optic camo

P.S. I just got back from watching Ghost in the Shell (2.0) for the first time.
I think I'll continue with anime series coz the film is interesting and it fits well as I wait for DX3

I know a bit about Ghost in the Shell. The ghost of Elvis Presley spends an awful lot of time in one of these shells... though I can never remember which one.

Do so. Both series/seasons are excellent. And don't forget to check out the other two (pardon the pun) stand-alone movies, GitS2: Innocence and GitS: Solid State Society

Sounds like you're about where I was a couple years ago, although I started out on Akira (no anime collection would be complete without it). After that, I saw GitS and was hooked. Other suggestions would be Appleseed, Appleseed Ex Machina, Vexille, Cowboy Bebop, Gantz, and Deathnote (although I still need to get the second series). After Deathnote, I'll probably get Hellsing. Working my way through the manga already, and I watched some of it on You Tube.

The first three are just movies, the rest are series.

None of those are really cyberpunk, but they're all movies/series I enjoy immensely, and recommend unreservedly.

I might also recommend (though these are as far from cyberpunk as one can get) any film by Hayao Miyazaki/Disney/Studio Ghibli - Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, and others.

Lastly, for a really moving anime based on true events from WWII, Grave of the Fireflies. Look it up on Amazon and read the customer reviews (not all of them, there are thousands, and most are 8 stars or above).

^ I briefly studied Japanese a few years back, and while I still have no profound love for anime I was seriously taken by Morimoto's short Magnetic Rose (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou7QSPNxgqs) from the 1995 anthology project Memories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memories_(film)).

I strongly recommend it to everyone here, as well as the 1987 anthology project Neo Tokyo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_Tokyo_(film)), also on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh06v-VcsT4).

Nobody should watch that unless they're prepared to be sad for the rest of their lives.

Out of all the Anime I've seen (which isn't too much, but most of what you posted Maxx), Spirited Away is my favorite. There's just something eerily wonderful about it.

Anna's age is one of those unsolved mysteries of DX. Her profile on the official website suggested she was recruited by the UN somewhere around 1999, and had already spent 9 years in the israeli military before that.

That might work for the females, but male anatomy would require a more serious solution. Metal legs on either side of unaltered genitalia would result in need for replacement rather fast anyhow.

In principle, sure, but it would not fit the style. At the most extreme, could be a transsexual, I suppose, but I have doubts it is something EM would attack so directly. They can do it all metaphorically via topic of augmentation. So feminine shapes and walk pretty much guarantees a female in this case.

But check for Adam's Apple just in case.

I dont think so. Muscles under the knee are a bit bigger compared to think extensions underneath but that can be expected as those muscles would take on the work whole lower leg does in supporting the upper weight.
Also her walk is just... good.

I dont know who designed her and worked on her for the trailer specifically but man (or people) - it is appreciated

As for augs interfering with some specific organs i dont think thats a necessity really. but it might be a choice for some who took the opinion that less distractions is a way to go.

I dunno who IS she, but I do know she is dangerous; prothethic legs (protoss-ish for SC fans) probably means she runs like hell and jump a lot; cloacked; and as we all know, sexy girls in dark rubber always have high dexterity and training with SMGs.

Also, she could be not "enhanced" but really robotic. Some of her characteristics make me think about Ghost in the Shell, and that would not be the first time something in DE:HR would remind me Ghost in the Shell. Not that I'll complain, Ghost in the Shell RULES. Thermoptic Cammouflage is the best Sci-Fi name for Cloaking ever XD

She could just be the same one as the distressed one.

Let's say she is Adam's sister/girlfriend, and she got her feet cut and replaced by prosthetics. She has been brainwashed by the very evil people who kidnapped her, and as they are very evil, they brainwash her and turn her against Adam :nut:

Do we blow her up? Do we try to save her from the very evil people, and revert the brainwashing? Do we brainwash her so she doesn't remember that she is our sister and make her our slave?

Choice, consequences...

14th Sep 2010, 20:30
There's no f**king way that's in-game. The hair is all the evidence you need to know it's pre-rendered. Maybe there's a new trailer they're working on?

Well spotted, Pinky, I hadn't even thought of that. I really hope it's a new trailer - not because I want a new pre-rendered trailer (really, really had enough of them) but because I sincerely hope EM haven't gone back on their previous statement that all in-game cutscenes would be handled in-engine.

In all honesty? It seems likely that EM have noted that the pre-rendered trailers got a lot more positive feedback than the in-game ones, and have decided that's how they're going to push their marketing: show people as little of the actual game as possible, and dazzle them with shiny nothingness. A dishonest tactic, but one that will no doubt work.

It *is* hard to do convincing hair in a rendered animation, it's even more difficult to do convincing hair in-game. Ever wondered why the bald space marine is ever so popular with developers?

Impressive! But we won't be seeing that kind of thing in-game for five to ten years; as is always the case with those nVidia tech demos.

If the entire game consisted of one character's head of hair, then yes, THE TECHNOLOGY IS UPON US! But if there are other things in the scene, like, people, building, objects, textures, lighting effects, shadows, and so on and so forth... even the best DX11 card couldn't render it all in real-time at playable frames.

Honestly, an in-engine cutscene bothers me no less than a pre-rendered cutscene. Both take the action out of the players' hands and reduce him/her to a spectator instead of a participant.

So if we absolutely must endure mid-mission cutscenes, why not make them as graphically impressive as possible?

Because the visual disparity is always there, no matter how good real-time technology is. Rendered in in-game, it can move from cut-scene to play in perfect fluidity on every level.

Because pre-rendered cutscenes aren't flexible. If I choose to give Adam mech legs, that can't be reflected on the fly in a pre-rendered cutscene, they'd have to do an entirely separate one. In-engine, they just swap out the model. Given the amount of choice and consequence we're apparently going to see in this game, at least some of it will be shown visually on Adam (or others, potentially) so you're going to have a hell of a lot of cutscenes to make if you pre-render all possibilities.

Agreed with your overall point though, cutscenes should be kept to a minimum. This isn't Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid or Heavy Rain.

[EDIT] And yeah, I can definitely see Fedorova's resemblance to Rihanna. And now I have Disturbia stuck in my head. This is not a good thing.

[EDIT 2] Actually, she reminds me more of Freema Agyeman, who played Martha in Doctor Who.

I don't think the ironbutt chick is Anna - she has apparently no legs below the knees, but Anna's legs are intact. Plus, if that's 25 years earlier, that would make Anna about 50 in DX - a bit long in the tooth for a field agent.

What do you think the fashion should be (bearing in mind the story is set less than 20 years from now)?

Yeah, i like Renaissance style ingame apply'd in furniture, combined with hi-end technologies, bookshelf's etc, looks great. +1 for EM on that.
But the "old" style'd clothes doesnt fit here. I think it would be better to have more futuristic clothes.
just imagine Adam Jensen in a Renaissance skirt.. how would he look lol ?

I don't.

Why do you need to rape her? Why can't we just seduce her into bedding us and then kill her after she betrays us. Like in the 007 movies.

Although if Jenson wants to be anywhere as cool as JC then he's going to need to pretend like he's not attracted to her. You know, so he can pull off the tough guy attitude.

I don't need to rape her. I need to have the choice to rape her.

It's like in DX1 I didn't need to kill children, but I had the choice!

Anyways, I am just kidding, I guess.

Here's a draft I made up with information regarding Fedorova's back-story (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1493782&postcount=84).

DXHR_Fedorova's_back-story (version 1 - Cop back-story):

-Male name: Michael.
-Abandoned by his mother he grows up in an orphanage.
-Born with a rare condition: Disorder of sex development/Intersex - he lives his life hiding his condition from others.
-While in the orphanage he's victim of bullying and attempts to escape the orphanage several times.

-By the age of 18 he decides to join the Police Force - it would be either that or living as a thug.
-He becomes a SWAT member at the age of 21.
-He secretly has a love affair with one of his colleagues at the Force.
-In an intervention occured during a bank heist one of the robbers, disguised as an hostage, draws a weapon and kills his love partner right in front of him.
-Being alone and without anyone to share his thoughts and secrets, he secretly becomes adicted to drugs.
-After a while traits of indiscipline and a bad attitude start to appear. He adopts the moto: "An armed suspect, is a dead suspect".
-In a "routine" operation he kills a suspect, disobeying a direct order. The suspect was an hostage that panicked and made the wrong move in the wrong time in front of resentful Michael.
-Jensen, a team colleague at the time, discovers he was on drugs during the operation and reports to his superiors - blood analysis are done testing positive for an unknown drug. He's judge and sentenced to jail.
-Michael goes through hell in jail with his new inmate "friends" because of his background as a cop.
-He gets out of jail after a few years with vengeance in his mind.

-He gets a job as a nightclub bouncer for a few years, In order to get money for a big change in his life.
-After a few years and after raising some money he applies on a "shaddy" surgery clinic for a sex-change operation and a fullbody reconstruction in order to become more feminine. Because he knows that seduction can be used as a weapon.
-Once recovered she kills the surgeon team in order to erase all traces to his... hum, past.
-He changes his identity (Fedorova; female; orphan; less ten years of age; victim of a car accident; massive reconstructive surgery) with the help of an hacker.
-With her new identity she applies for the Police Force and gets outstanding results for a female.
-Because of her outsanding results she gets selected for an augmentation program.
-One of the lab assistants looks deeper into her profile and through a thorough examination discovers that she was a man before. Without talking to other colleagues, he exposes the case to her in order to make her quit the Force. Fedorova uses her seductive traits and manages to bribe him in order to keep his mouth shut. Later that day the labs assistant's body is found in an alley with a bullet in his head.
-With the help of the hacker she modifies and erases the data that could put her plans into jeopardy.
-After the operation she's reborn as a seductive, bloodthirsty, one woman killing machine.
-Fedorova's vengeance plan starts to become a reality, but first she needs to cut all links to her true identity. The hacker becomes the next name on her list - Van Bruggen he is.

I'm not sure if that natural gift would be infallible by the year 2017. By that year (in DXHR universe) it should be possible to do a complete body reconstruction as one's desire. Some people would go wild with plastic surgery.
Facial reconstruction (ie: jaw replacement (http://www.impactlab.net/2008/08/31/scientists-create-artificial-bones/)) should be a piece of cake by that time.

"Question everything. Trust No One." That's a big lesson in DX.
It makes perfect sense, since a DX game is not an ordinary game. (No, I'm not admiting that HR is a great DX sequel by the way. :p)

Think about it. ;)

i'm pretty sure such a general quote doesn't apply to the gender of one character. seriously, how is it going to affect the story? oh, the person you thought was a girl was in fact a post-op transsexual. ground breaking moment in gaming!

we're on a forum dedicated to a video game where you KILL people. and when someone jokes about that, it's okay to laugh, right? atleast i've never seen anyone go all serious and suggest the person should get his act together like he sold heroin to kids. Ending someone's conscious life is the worst thing you can do to them. Try to argue with that, I dare you. And most of us gamers pretend to be murdering "enemies" on a daily basis.
Additionally Fedorova is seen in this trailer mass-murdering a crowd of barely armed civilians and, judging from her facial expression, getting off on that. If such a person actually existed I doubt you'd save her from a rapist. I wouldn't.

There are funny jokes about a subject, and disturbing comments one finds amusing that few others do. There is no justification for justifying an unfunny joke that came off as nothing but creepy about the joker himself. And now you come here, after the thread has rightly moved on, and try to make it a focal point, as well as spending way too much time arguing for something unworthy of the effort, from an angle that doesn't even address the concern at all.

I'm all for laughs. Just not when it involves rape, for instance. Keep it classy; the issue's been resolved.

Unless - Wait, lemme get this straight: you just justified rape (or you want to defend it in this instance)? You sure you want to do that? Think hard about what you want to accomplish here. Do you just want to get a leg-up over someone else, or are you actually saying that it's OK for some people to be raped because they're "bad?"

And I'd think that paralyzing a person from the spine down would be worse than killing him. I can think of all sorts of things that's be worse than death. But that's not the point, is it?

But not all do. Sexual assault always leaves suicide as an option if the person deems it to be preferable. Killing someone leaves no options whatsoever.

Then again, according to MWI, you cannot hurt anyone other than yourself, so it's a moot point.

So if I killed your family you'd still chock up all violence as a moot point? You'd blame only yourself for the pain you felt?

Philosophical musings are nice and all, but they don't diminish acts of violence, or how we honestly perceive them.

Philosophical musings are nice and all, but they don't diminish acts of violence, or how we honestly perceive them.
I'd hunt you down like a rabid dog, no question about it. I think you missed my point. The point here is that only direct consequences of the action to you should go into making of the decision, not whether or not the action is hurting someone else.

In the MWI, if you have a choice, both outcomes exist. If you choose not to kill someone, it doesn't mean the murder does not happen. It still does happen in a parallel timeline. So you cannot choose not to hurt someone. You still do. You can choose to have nothing to do with that reality for this or that reason.

Of course, strict MWI relies on linearity of the laws of physics, and gravity is non-linear, so MWI does not strictly speaking work. How much of an impact the gravity of Earth and the Sun have on local multiverse structure is very hard to tell. We'd need quantum gravity to say for sure.

Yeah, that's an old quote when we were first given an incorrect name or something.
If you check the Images thread, we have the following details for Fedorova:

Fedorova
Official occupation yet unknown.
The fans know her as the 'Augmented One', seen strutting her stuff in the official trailer.
Fedorova is typically a surname, quite popular, meaning, literally, "of the line of Fedor". Fedor is a Russian equivalent of the male name Theodore (greek - gift of God).

Really can't figure out why developers gave her russian surname (without name, also).
It sounds very unregularry in russian if you name somebody only with his surname. It sounds very-very official or sarcastic.
To a Russian, yes it does, but she's not in Russia. We know nothing about her origins or loyalties, but it's a safe bet that in-game characters who are mostly westerners, would address her in a manner customary to them - that is, by her last name. After all, we don't know Barrett's first name either, and he's about the same type of character, I imagine.

It's true that she doesn't look very Russian though (or even Slavic).
