My first day on the Alpha I noticed I had to drop all the GFX settings to low to get the game to be playable. I'm currently running a Laptop with a i7 and Nvidia GTX 670M which "should" run the game fine. I have the system to use the Nvidia GPU all the time in the system settings but still had frame rate issues. So I manually added the game to use the Nvidia GPU and not the Intel 4000 and boom 40 FPS solid on high settings.

It seems for what ever reason the Optimus thing does not work all the well all the time. It solved my fame rate issues, as well as a random load issue I was having from time to time when the game would hang.

So just a heads up to the fellow Laptop games that run Nvidia, you might want to manually select that Nosgoth runs on the Nvida card.

:Edit:

Doh! I should have added this at the start of the thread in case you have the issue and are not familiar with the process of changing these settings. My bad :rasp:

1. Right Click your desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-eeEjK6_aIM0/Urp-ssLbw7I/AAAAAAAABTg/TSLTtudZOI8/s912/Set-1.jpg

2. Select Manage 3D Settings
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dX9IwE6Szeg/Urp-tx49DBI/AAAAAAAABTo/Yx80ObrwXi0/s912/Set-2.jpg

3. Click the Program Settings Tab
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-rJlEg7egTrU/Urp-vNCyCvI/AAAAAAAABTw/UA183Keq4zs/s912/Set-3.jpg

4. Click Add
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m_-FjFWtw0o/Urp-wJ7GuSI/AAAAAAAABT4/AkDtiBccS4s/s912/Set-4.jpg

5. Click Browse
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-G9TdGrGZVJA/Urp-xF0mvHI/AAAAAAAABUA/KdaxbdVpoGo/s912/Set-5.jpg

6. Locate Nosgoth.exe and select it. Default location is - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\nosgoth\Binaries\Win32\nosgoth.exe
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-KAlfVp6hn20/Urp-yRy0PTI/AAAAAAAABUI/ZMdjVzZzwjQ/s912/Set-6.jpg

7. Click the drop down menu for selecting preferred graphics processor to use. Select Nvidia and hit apply
https://picasaweb.google.com/111238542422552255160/NvidiaOptions?authkey=Gv1sRgCJqT-8_T36iiYQ#5961216488450219826

Your all done! The game now will be using the Nvidia GPU and not the built in GPU/APU. The same steps can be used for any game or program the only part that will change is set 5. You will browse to the location of what ever games/programs exe you want the Nvidia GPU to run and select it. :)

I don't seem to have this issue and I use optimus, but I will force Nosgoth to use the NVidia GPU and see if there are any changes.

I have had issues on and off with Optimus so it might just be my laptop that does not work correctly, its a Toshiba Qosmio x75 series.

let me know if you see any changes in performance I am curious now if its just my laptop that is not working correctly.

Nothing detectable on my end I'm afraid, I also checked GPU usage with the default settings and the correct GPU was being used.

Well it might just me my laptop then. :mad2: I love/hate the thing all at the same time.

Anyway might be interesting to see if there are other laptop gamers out there having performance issues or what there performance is like.

I use a laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GT740M and Win 8 and don't seem to have any issues - I have issues with some skipping/lag but I'm sure that's my naff internet rather than the graphics. I hope you can figure out a way to sort this issue :D

I think I have pin pointed the issue. It seems for what ever reason when I updated my video card driver to the latest from Nvidia directly and not the way out dated one Toshiba is pushing it nerfed Optimus some how.

I did a clean install of the Toshiba supplied one and it got Optimus working BUT it had a huge drop in performance. From a solid 40fps+ to a shakey 20ish. So I went back the the new Nvidia direct one and just have to set the game to use the Nvidia GPU manually. I know such a pain a whole 45 sec or so :rasp:

Why didn't you just get your update directly from Nvidia instead of Toshiba? Do you not use the "GeForce Experience"? I'm typically not a fan of those kinds of programs, but they did a really good job with it.

Probably the fact it's a laptop. When that GPU gets rolling it'll cause heating issues. That 740 should easily handle it though. My 640 doesn't blink at full settings here.

Most of the time Laptop makers tweak the hardware in odd ways. For the best performance as far as stability goes its always best to stick with there driver releases. As a avid gamer I don't mind doing work arounds to get that extra few FPS and AA settings to make games that mush better.

As for lucinvampire's issue with random lag I would agree with you cmstache. It does kind of sound like a thermal issue, god knows I have them, laptop shutdown last night mid game due to over heating... Dont rememeber who was in the lobby but they where nice and it was fun. Boo poor cooling, boo. :thud:

Stache - thank you :D I will definitley keep an eye on it - I did give it a prod yesterday and it was warm but not on fire :D

Snipe - that sucks - had an issue where I got booted from a game the other night to and it sucks so bad :(

I just realized (thanks to DeputyPotato) that I´m suffering from the same thing - I got intel integrated card and Nvidia 630M. However, when I play Nosgoth, I get barely 25fps with all video settings on minimum and I had no idea why, but now it seems that my notebook is not switching the graphics card as it should when playing Nosgoth. Is it possible? I have Nvidia 630M, i5 2,5GHz, shouldn´t it run better?

Oroibahazopi
20th Dec 2013, 22:52
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\nosgoth\Binaries\Win32\nosgoth.exe

You have to add it manually in the NVIDIA control panel.

Thank you! Couldn´t find it... It worked, now I get around 30 at least :D thanks.

Hey guys ! I just got into the game today, it's amazing ! :D Only problem is that I have incredibly low FPS, around 20-25. Before you ask, I lowered every video setting to low, disabled all the enhancing stuff, like motion blur and high def shadows and whatnot. I have a laptop with Intel i5 @ 2500 ghz quad core processor, 6 gig ram and 4 gig video card. I have no idea why it is this low, I can play pretty much every game on a solid 60 FPS. Is it because of my laptop or is this normal in closed alpha? :D

Oroibahazopi
22nd Jan 2014, 18:24
Nvidia optimus?

ShadyPudding
22nd Jan 2014, 18:26
I have GeForce 610m

Psyonix_Eric
22nd Jan 2014, 18:26
It's normal in some alphas, but not in ours. We've done a lot of work to try to optimize the game but there's always the chance that there are some hardware-specific issues that we need to address. Such is the nature of PC games.

If you are able to, please follow the directions I outlined here: http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=8950&p=79837#post79837

Thanks.

You more than likely have optimus. In the nvidia control panel force nosgoth to use the 610m rather than any global setting.

ShadyPudding
22nd Jan 2014, 18:28
Okay, thank you Eric ! I sent those in an E mail but forgot to mention that I had everything set to low. One last question, as you guys work on the game and optimize/update it, will it run smoothly on my laptop? Cause I think mine is not that bad.

Hello to whom may be reading.
To use simple words, i can't play the game. At all. Ingame stutter and very low fps make the game unplayable.
At the start of the match and at every respawn i can move around the map with lag and stutter but i can move, but as soon as the enemy team gets close and we start fighting the game freezes almost, i thing i'm getting like 5 fps or so.
Sound stutters from start to end. Tried different video settings up to lowest but to no success.
I would post my DxDIag but i can't find the upload file button so i'm just gonna say this:
Intel I5 , 6 gb RAM, GeForce 520MX.
If anyone knows a solution please help me.
Thanks!

are you using a notebook or laptop of any kind? Those can have some issues?

Next when you made the DxDiag send it to nosgothbugs@square-enix.com
with the following information:
Link to topic
IGN and forum name
Short describtion of error

Thanks for the reply.
Yes i am using a Samsung notebook.
Usually i can play almost any game, given that i lower the video settings enough. Dont know what the issue really is in this case.
Sent an email as you suggested, hope for a response soon.

It should definitely work perfect on your system. Are you running on a tower or a laptop?

Psyonix_Corey
26th Mar 2014, 21:37
That's a laptop video card, is it an Optimus laptop? We've had some users report their laptop didn't kick into "full" graphics mode for Nosgoth. You can add the executable in the Optimus settings or force it, someone with one of these laptops could explain better than me.

lucinvampire
26th Mar 2014, 22:28
Ah glad you know :D yes I forced mine to use it on Nosgoth (though it ran ok without doing so) but now is much better...there is a thread around here somewhere that explains how...

RainaAudron

I had this too - go to your Nvidia settings and add Nosgoth to the app list - then change it to run with Nvidia instead.

Hey guys, I'm not the greatest with hardware. From what I can tell my specs beat the recommended specs yet on the lowest settings I get about 17 fps and get noticeable frame drops when fire or smoke is dropped. It's not unplayable but I would prefer to figure out why. Here's my dxdiag.

I'm not the best with hardware either, but by the looks of it you might want to upgrade your graphics card. With an i7 and 16 gigs of RAM, I think your build is pretty bottle-necked with that GPU. But don't get me wrong, that's one expensive machine, must have cost you quite a bit. I don't know if your processor/mobo combo supports integrated graphics, but I'd use that instead. Then again, I'm not the best with hardware. I know how to put them together, not how they work exactly x)

Edit: tbh though, even on the lowest settings, you should be getting a reasonable FPS...

Hey there, Viridian24 is right in some cases here. Your system is a bit bottle necked, but that doesn't necessarily mean it should impede you in enjoying the game. You've posted quite a bit of information here, probably a bit too much (Then again where I work there is no such thing as too much data). However I'll do my best to sift through it and see if I can find an issue.

If you would be so kind to provide me with some information on where you found "recomended" requirements for the game, I did a bit of searching for it and found a bit of conflicting information.

Could you also supply me with your current in game settings.

In the mean time I shall take a look and sort through the data provided, and hopefully find a solution which doesn't require any new hardware.

Cheers, Decepi.

Thanks guys. :)

Yeah Decepi, I agree that too much info is never bad in situations like this. I just posted my dxdiag.txt file. I knew I could trim it down but eh, I was being lazy and didn't feel like trying to sort through it myself.

The minimum specs I looked at were in the FAQ (http://www.nosgoth.com/faq) under "What do I need to play Nosgoth?" question.

I didn't feel like buying this PC in pieces so I just grabbed an off the shelf model (for $800 I believe) so I wouldn't be surprised if it was my video card. I just find it a bit odd that every other game I've thrown at this machine in the 6 months I've had it has been taken very well but this one forces low resolution and setting to be the adequate. So a free solution would be nice if you find one Decepi. :) Thank you.

Good time of the day, ladies and gents.
I want to start with saying that I'm in love with this game and it did not disappoint me even a slightest bit once I got my Founder's Pack. But I have a problem with its performance.
Basically, I set everything to low, turned off V-sync and all that. During a match most of the time the game is playable, 25to 30 FPS. It is not ideal, but it's tolerable. The real problem begins when things like smoke bomb or fire wall get into the business and wreck my FPS, leaving somewhere between 10 to 15. I'm not a specialist, but I'd assume that lowering Particle Density would improve things for me.
So my questions is: Is it possible to reduce Particle Density (or basically effects) in an .ini file of some description or in any other way?

My specs are:
Lenovo (Laptop)
CPU: Intel Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz
GPU: Nvidea GeForce GT 635M
RAM: 4Gb
OS: Windows 8

I know that it is not a monster machine, I intend to get a proper desktop, but I was able to run, say, Titanfall with similar FPS, but without it dipping down so low (yes, it's on Source engine, but still).

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

EDIT:

I also took my time to mess around with my Nvidea controll panel settings, but it did not result in anything. So.. any advice, aside from upgrading?

I noticed a huge fps drop since yesterday in the game. No idea what is the cause of the problem, Nosgoth was running smoothly on high deatails earlier.

I have updated my drivers recently (maybe thats the point?)

My system spec:
intel core i7 2.3 ghz
6gb ram
win 7 64bit
gefore gt 650m 2gb

It looks like you shouldn't have a problem...but this seems to have become an issue for some users since the patch last week...

But for those who are laptop users it might be good to have a look at this thread http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=10932&highlight=laptop and see if making these changes make any difference for you.

:( hello my dear people i am having lag issues with nosgoth and i tried everything such as deleting ini setting and so nothing seems to work however i have the best graphic card it can get also high internet speed.

as for the new patch that has came such as MAXfps setting in game i add it to 250 and save it and all of the sudden i see it go back to 120

My actual fps during gameplay is just going to 13 to 16 maximum .

If by lagging you mean low FPS rates, this might help you http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=12722&p=98644#post98644

So for some reason whenever I play Nosgoth, it lags HORRIBLY. I've checked if my computer can handle the minimum requirements, etc. and it should run it no problem. I've tried closing all other applications while running Nosgoth, I tried lowering the graphic settings to "Low" and yet, for some reason I still lag horribly,to the point that I can't really play. I don't know what the problem could be, because I can run games like Guild Wars 2, Skyrim, Left 4 Dead 2, etc on highest settings and have no problem at all. I really want to play this game but the lag is really killing it for me...
Please help?

Also I ran a test specifically for Nosgoth and these are my specs:

You have a mobile Nvidia GPU, can you make sure in your NVidia settings that Nosgoth is flagged for full 3D? Many people who complain of FPS problems with Nvidia mobile cards find that their PC is not using the card for Nosgoth.

We've contacted NVidia to hopefully get it auto detected for 3D in a future driver update.

How would I go about doing that? Because if that fixes my problem I'd be absolutely happy. I really want to play this game, especially since I bought Immortal Founder pack. :)

EDIT: Nevermind, I did it and it all works GREAT now. Thanks so much for the help. Vae victis!

Hey ragexkiller,

It's hard to tell what may be causing your problems, because just knowing your OS isn't enough for that. Right click on 'My Computer'->Properties. In the opened window you will see your CPU and RAM info. Next, in the same window, in the upper left corner click 'Device Manager' and in the popped up window find 'graphics adapters' (or something like this - sorry, don't remember how does it look in English and can't check this ATM). Click on it and you should see a list of available graphics cards on your PC. Post this info here, probably we will be able to help somehow.

And it would possibly help if you could tell what type/model of PC are you using? Is it a laptop or desktop?

I bought this game awhile ago and i've had unplayable lagg ever since. It stutters whenever i sprint or move, but does OK when im zoomed in. I figured it was my graphics card but now i've updated to a better one that shouldnt have any problem running this game but the problem still persists.
I've already tried the stickied fix.

Hello,

what graphics settings are you playing on? Perhaps try turning off certain features such as APEX cloth, that causes issues for myself personally.

Also have you updated your nvidia drivers to the latest one? I ask because sometimes this can fix it OR be the source of the issue, a friend of mine with a gtx 770 had fps issues and found out it was due to the latest nvidia driver update.

My advice would be to set the game to the lowest, but make sure it's on your native screen resolution, then if it plays fine, increase the graphics to see if it's a specific setting that is causing the issue or not.

callistotyler

Game is on the lowest settings + windowed mode, all graphics card drivers are updated and the issue still persists but the game looks worse when it does it xD.

Since I started playing, when ever their is smoke, haze, heal, fire, ext.. anything like that I get frame drop.
Its quite annoying.
Normally I should be able to play this game 60fps on pretty much full settings with no issues.
Seems like lowering settings dont help ether.

NOW when something like this happens, normally playing with the .ini settings for the game can fix the issue, but these ini files arn't something i know to well, so maybe someone out there can give me a hand with a possible solution?

Have same issues, fps drop from 40-50 to 10-20 and thats crazy. Used "speed up" button on my pc + RazerGameBooster and lags now 25%-30% less horrible, but they still exist. Yet i am able to deal like 12k-17k dps per game as human, so it dosnt really ruins game at all, but causes a rage and annoyingness. Changing options dosnt change power of lags. The worst situation is having 4 alchemist shooting at the same time - when those "bomb army" exploding - fps is 0.

I have no lag in Diablo 3 on MAX options, screen res. 1920x1080 with 4 players party, while all the screen filled with AoE skills and enemies.

My drivers are up to date.

I get small drops too, when there are allot of particles on screen, like fire and smoke.
It's not a severe drop in FPS, but would be nice if the particle effects could be optimized a little.

Yes I remember other games having the same particle issues (such at league of legends) back when I only had a crap laptop, id lag in some skill animations, it sooner or later got fix and solved the issue.
I'd like to see the same thing done here. Hopefully we'll see something in the near future

I've noticed lots of rubber-banding in player movement lately, sometimes with warping (player relocating further than I could have ran.) It seems to happen on both NA and EU, but certainly with more frequency on on high-latency servers. My connection is at least 24mbit down / 3mbit up.

EDIT: Also, I have run connection tests and my connection shows no packet loss or irregular latency jitter.

Exactly my case! After a May 15 patch I noticed that lags became way too frequent for me. The latest patch didn't fix that. It never happened so often before. Also, I noticed the lags are happening mostly when I am about to score a kill, especially as a vampire. Usually it goes like this: I engage one of the humans and hit him without missing until his health bar drops to around 15%. And then, when I land the hit which should be the last for the poor human, I suddenly hit him (I'm sure the hit LANDS) and nothing happens - I just bump into human and in the next moment I find myself in an empty space and have to search for my miraculously alive target. Or I bump into a wall.

Playing as a human I very often find myself running in one direction and then, too, suddenly bumping into a wall. Or, while fighting vamps, sometimes they pass through the flame of my FT without any harm.

Such things happened before, but it could be one, maybe two times per match, even with high ping. Now, even with a good ping, they happen, as I said, a bit too often.

Just a thought it would be nice if they could figure out a way for people that have lower spec computers or laptops to atleast be able to play the game with Decent "FPS" atleast run decently on low graphics like give my graphics Options or something or they could change something in the game that makes it use soo much Frames. Cause it sucks i just got the game was excited didnt expect the game to have such crappy FPS cause its not like its a Open world MMORPG.... its a Shooter fighting game.... ive played many shooters but they didnt have Bad Frames like this game did :( wish in the future they could do something to the game so lower spec computers could atleast injoy the game.

While playing, the game would randomly freeze for a good 2-5 seconds. It would happen especially during intense fighting. There's nothing I can do about it, and it makes the game unplayable on my end.

I got 8 gbs of ram, an i5 @ 3.4 ghz, and a 660ti gpu, so I don't think my PC would be what's causing this.

Also, after every match, it would ask for my account to be linked, even though it was already. And after linking, it would "successfully" be linked, however, the message keeps popping up.

Any help would be nice.

I would maybe try signing out of Steam and then linking your account via your forum profile...top right hand corner of the forum when you're signed in. They try signing back into Steam and launching the game...it may keep it updated...or not as I know there are other users with this issue.

The other one with the game freezing sounds like an ongoing issue that people are experiencing (myself included)...I'm not currently aware of a fix for this that we can do ourselves.

If you've been into Nosgoth and played a game - have signed out of the forum and back in again it usually updates your permissions - as it hasn't you'll need to send the forum Admin - Xenonetix - a Private Message and request him to grant you access to the area. Please see this thread http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=11924&p=93697#post93697 for what information he'll need. Best you can do is have AA turned off, motion blur on. Though that depends if it's the type of blur to give an FPS boost or is just post processed and everything is still rendered. Can't hurt to try. I can't recall if there's a shadows option but if there is turn that off as well. Those are the two biggest hogs.

Worked beautifully!!! The game is much smoother now. A few things to consider however...

I had a problem where replacing the ini file with yours would cause the file to be rebuilt every time the game was restarted. I compared the two files and tracked the cause down. At the very end of the ini file, there is a section labeled "IniVersion". You must replace the two lines in that section with the version numbers from the latest ini file in order for the game to recognize the file as the latest version. It is also possible that this custom ini file will be replaced in a later update (make sure to keep a backup) and you will need to repeat this process.

The other consideration is rather minor. My native resolution is 1600x1900 and your ini file was not set to that. I simply changed the resolution back using the settings menu. Are there any other elements within the ini file that are intended for a different resolution that need to be changed manually?

21st Jun 2014, 03:59
Would someone mind posting step by step instructions on how to find the file that I'm supposed to replace? I'm also on a laptop not originally meant for gaming. I'm on a Dell Inspiron N4110 with an integrated graphics/video card. xD Anything that'll boost my fps to any degree will be helpful. I'm getting around 10-15 right now, I think. Hoping to get 20 fps anyways. I can deal with that. Can't deal with 10 though.

Thanks,

Hello!

I have had issues with Frames Per Second / movement delay with Nosgoth (in the tutorial) and thus have been unable to play. This is extremely odd, as my ASUS N550 laptop specs are at or better than not only the minimum but recommended specs (Nosgoth FAQ: http://www.nosgoth.com/faq). Here are my specs fyi:

Intel Core i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40GHz
8 GB RAM
64-bit Windows 8 (not 8.1)
GEFORCE 750M (Passmark benchmark: 1526 v. recommended 260 - 1120)
Latest NVidia Drivers
Latest DirectX

Nosgoth runs around 12 FPS for me on LOW graphics.
The problem must be something simple like integrated graphics v nvidia or a similar "silly" fix. Counter-Strike Global offensive, for comparison, runs completely smooth at around 100 FPS

Has anyone else had similar problems? Suggestions?

Thanks for reading.

Hello,

sorry to hear you're having trouble. Since your card is a 750M perhaps the following quote from Psyonix_Corey might help:

You have a mobile Nvidia GPU, can you make sure in your NVidia settings that Nosgoth is flagged for full 3D? Many people who complain of FPS problems with Nvidia mobile cards find that their PC is not using the card for Nosgoth.

We've contacted NVidia to hopefully get it auto detected for 3D in a future driver update.

Try the above fix, and see if it sorts the issue out.

Cheers.

Google tips online for adjusting your power plan. That said, there's only going to be so much you can get out of it. Getting a cooling pad has helped me int he past too. Despite the name, laptops aren't meant to be used on your lap.

Looking at those scores+specs and comparing with mine (I got notebook as well), it does not seem you can get any more fps out of your pc, unfortunately. Cooling pad can help, but getting extra fps might require new hardware...

You can manually set your power settings by clicking on the battery icon in the right bottom corner on your screen and select high performance.

I play CS:GO @ 60 - 80 FPS Constant reaching in the 100+ anywhere that has lower polygons, I've played Unreal 3 on my computer, as well as AVA, Battery, the list goes on... where I've reached the same.

Every 5 - 6 seconds, since this update, I experience massive sound clipping + massive fps chopping.

Before this update, I was playing perfectly.

Have you tried changing graphical settings? Graphical settings often reset after a patch. Make sure that your graphical settings are set back to what they were before the patch.

I have huge frame lags since a few patches. I thought maybe the new patch would fix it, but no. I lowered my grafic settings to low even though i have a decent machine. Before the lag problem occured I could play on highest settings with 60 fps now I play on low with 18-25 fps in combat and 25-40 out of combat. Not that fun :(

I just started playing today and can barely play it at all. Before I even get into a match, I am only running at about 15fps at lowest settings. My computer isn't great, but I don't think I should be encountering frame rates that low. I can run other games just fine without performance issues.

I’m having quite a few issues atm with FPS. I used to be able to run the game on high/higher fine (never noticed any issues) but recently the FPS has been getting real bad. I’m now getting under 17 on higher/high, 25 or so on medium and then 38 tops on low. My ping usually remains under 20.

I’m getting massive drops at points – I was last patch getting random spikes that’d last for a couple of seconds. Last night though (since this mini-patch) I played fine in a Private Match but on the standard EU servers I spent as Human (more so than vampires) it would drop down to under 10 and then and would take a good while to get back up (up to a couple of minutes) – be fine and then drop again which made the matches completely unplayable.

Things I’ve tried:

-Checked my Nvidia is being used
-Updated my graphics card drivers
-Checked the correct monitor resolution is being used (tried playing on TV and/or monitor just in case it’s one playing up)
-Checked for viruses
-Defragged my HDD
-Deleting the two BCMP files from Config and then launched Nosgoth
-Now playing on low settings (checking texturing etc has turned off)
-Tried “onethread” but I get an error message saying it cannot be found and do I want to boot the game using default settings

The only thing I haven’t done is take the thing apart and clean it all.

My specs:
Win 8
Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.4 GHz, 3.4 GHz with TurboBoost, 6 MB cache),
12 GB DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2 GB

The question is does anyone else have any other (sensible) suggestions?

…I’m hoping I don’t have to upgrade already…I only got the thing at the back end of last year.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new here but I was wondering if any1 could help me out. I downloaded Nosgoth and was getting very low fps with the default settings. I used the in - game video options to put the lowest settings possible and I'm getting around 10-16 fps (even lower in battles).

At the moment this is unplayable for me, cant escape from vampires, finding it difficult to shoot them and so on.

Does anyone here know if I can edit a config file or something to boost my game performance ?
I don't have the best PC, but maybe I can edit the config files of this game, disable some things or do something else to improve the fps. If any1 has any tips on this, please do reply.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you update the version number at the bottom of the file to the current, its a tad out of date.

I kinda doubt that this'll give you much of a boost though, if you're only pulling ~15fps.

You're roughly at the minimum requirements listed on the Steam page. Use the config I linked above but don't expect huge a performance increase. Adding the -onethread command to your Steam launch options has helped some people in the past, but it may also make your issue worse. Worth a try as its easily reverse-able.

Your performance will be boosted periodically as they do optimization passes as well.

Also might want to get a hold of some virus/malware scanners, Avast, Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes, etc run some through scans. Razer's Cortex Game Booster can help you squeeze out some extra power as well.

Again, you must update the version number in the last two lines of the *.ini file, otherwise the game will overwrite with default settings. Simply copy and paste the new version number from the games' natural file into the replacement file and place it into the folder. Keep a copy handy though, every time the game patches the version number becomes out of date and resets to default again. Annoying little bug.

Judgin' by the command, I'd say it forces the game to run on a single thread. I know it sounds like a bad thing, but many people have experienced your issue and have fixed it with this command, myself included. Personally I don't use this command currently, couple of months ago or so it started to make my FPS die a little but I've heard others are still going strong with it. Give it a try, easily reversible by removing the command.

I've installed a new OS on a formatted harddrive yesterday.
Is it because I have a 64x OS or DirectX 11?

Edit: Gonna try last time after all the Windows Updates. If it don't work, I will quit the game, sadly.

Hello Nosgoths!

I'm running Nosgoth at a capped 60 fps on the lowest possible settings and a custom comfig.
It runs smooth enough until someone throws either a Shadow Bomb, Healing Mist, Poison Cloud or similar. Then my framerate drops down to a stable 20 fps until the effects are gone. It's making organised and competitive play very diffucilt.
I don't have the most modern PC, but I believe the particle effects could use some optimising since they are the only things causing me framerate issues. They're very detailed, and surely they look great.
Maybe it would be possible to add an option to lower the detail level or these kinds of attacks?

Thank you for your time,

zzott

There is a bug with saving certain settings in the latest patch, that we're clearing up. Here is some info from Corey about that. Hopefully that helps!

We found an issue with this patch regarding detail settings not being applied correctly.

While we push a hotfix into QA, you can try editing these settings manually in BCMPSystemSettings.ini (My Documents/My Games/Nosgoth/BCMPGame/Config)

Without sounding really dumb - what is a good FPS to have?

I can't get above 39 on low now - and I have a "gaming" laptop...(yes I'm running on my Nvidia and not the dual graphics).

FireWorks_
12th Dec 2014, 14:18
stable 60 or 120 (72 or 144 rarely) depending on your monitor. Ideally you want 1 frame fully computed and rendered per refreshed pic on the screen. With most screens at 60Hz, you are good with 60fps. Lower or higher fps can lead to more choppy feeling since the frames are not fully synced.
For gaming 120Hz monitors are nice to have. Many people notice the difference between 60 and 120Hz and also 60 and 120fps. It feels a lot smoother and more responsive for me but that is a matter being used to it and a bit of the age too.

Personally I feel sorry for anybody inwasting money in a "gaming laptop" because for the same price youd get a fully grown desktop and an office laptop (if you must be mobile). The model numbers of the graphic cards have this M in the end meaning they are drastically weaker than their original counter parts. Buyer beware.

Hi there.

I started playing Nosgoth last night, and I played a couple of games which went smooth as can be. 60fps constant, highest settings.

This morning, around the time when the servers were down, I got on and the user interface was extremely laggy and unresponsive. This extended to the performance ingame as well. My fps was down to about 10fps on the lowest possible settings, when the previous day it was fine and dandy on the highest.

The only thing that could have caused this on my side is a driver update I did before trying to play this morning, which updated my "Geforce Game Ready Driver" to version 347.25. One of my friends also ran into a similar issue, with a relatively similar rig.

My specs are:

The 347.25 drivers have Nosgoth profiles so it should be running smoothly - can you go to your NVIDIA Control Panel, and find the Application Settings and make sure Nosgoth is set to use full 3D Acceleration/etc.? Also try changing your in-game graphics settings again.

Go to your gfx cards control panel and assign nosgoth to your dedicated graphics card. For nvidia the lastest driver should be optimized, so get that one too.

I know it sounds really silly but if you're on a laptop make sure you're running off of mains power rather than battery...I know it sounds stupid.

Also, and just generally take a look at The big guide to maximising your framerate thread (http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=149175).

Seriously dev, this game is optimized as crap...

my config deal very good with unreal engine and i have decent fps in all games.

ghost recon phantom, 60 fps any condition, if drop ddrop to 57/58... LOW
burnout paradise, 60 fps all condition... ALL MAXED
shadow warrior, texture ultra high, most stuff maxed or medium... 60/90fps
sper op the line ALL MAXED except shadow on medium, 45-60fps
red orchestra 2, most on medium/high, 50/60fps

nosgoth all off or low, some medium, 60/80 with frequently drop to 40/45????

are you serious?

this game lack serious performance optimization, is not normal other game i can run with same/better frame with much more higher detail and effect and nosgoth i have drop under 45 fps even with almost all to low...

there is no point in you keep change the low setting to be "more low", spend time to optimize the game instead of cut and cut the low setting.

Few Months ago I was able to play Nosgoth without any problems and smooth fps at high quality settings. Now for quite some time, after playing a few minutes the game is having massive fps lags (jumps to ~3-7fps for a few seconds every now and then, then back to the normal avg. fps for a few secs, back and forth).

I have the following specs:
Intel Core i7-3612QM @ 2,10 GHz
Intel HD4000
Nvidia GeForce 650M

I'm definitely using the Nvidia Graphics Card when playing the game.

I changed the 3D Settings in Nvidia Control Panel to Performance.

I already tried lowering all the Video settings in the game.

And I already tried everything mentioned in this thread: http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=149175

But nothing. When I start the game, it works just fine. After a few minutes, sometimes only like 3-4 minutes, sometimes 9-10 minutes, it starts to lag, making it unplayable for me.

Not sure if that helps, but I have a similar problem with another game that is using the Unreal Engine, Sanctum 2. After playing the game for some time, I have to restart the game because the sound is getting weird and the fps are dropping.

Maybe it's a memory leak in the UT engine?

I'd suggest you'd try following this guide and see if removing tons of details will make it run better for you.

I assume you already checked for the latest drivers.

bSmoothFrameRate=true
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=121.000000

This pretty much killed all my fps drops and gives stable 90+ to me.
It should be killing spikes and drops and feels generally a lot a better than having 120 and then dropping down to a lot less.

However, it is not in the systemsettings.ini anymore so I dont know if its still supported. Should be still worth trying out, though.

Kitadashi
4th Feb 2015, 15:18
I can only guess that it actually did something, since aiming felt kind of weird with bSmoothFrameRate set to true.

Unfortunately, the FPS Lags still kept appearing after playing like 6 minutes.

Thanks for your advice though. (:

Card name: AMD Radeon R7 200 Series

There's your problem. Very weak card. If you don't believe me look at the price and physical size of the card compared to the latest and greatest cards.

The CPU is probably fine but it's worth noting that 8 cores - if it is indeed that and not hyperthreading - does absolutely nothing for video games and what you really is high hz on fewer cores.

My computer is fairly high end and I run every other game on Max settings with at least 30 fps.

This also supports my idea that the card isn't very strong, 30fps is frankly, ****. There's just no nicer way to say it.

tunaburn
7th Feb 2015, 08:55
No way. A 4 gb video card should run this game on low no problem. I run Assassins creed unity on high with 30 fps. How can i run this game on the lowest settings and only get 12 fps. If those are the system specs. That you need more than a 4gb video card to run this on low then this game is doomed. But i think you are wrong. I think you are underestimating this computers specs or something. Its an 8 core processor with 16 GB ram and a 4gb video card. It should easily run this game.

Ghosthree3
7th Feb 2015, 09:04
If you could read your own DXDiag you would see your card is a 2GB card not the 4GB card you think it is. Makes you wonder what else you are wrong about.

The card costs around $100 and is really poor, trust me on this.

Trying to defend your purchase with '8 core processor' after I just told you how useless that was really isn't helping your case. It sounds like you bought a prebuilt PC advertised as a 'high end' one and really have no idea what you purchased.

See these images.

Your card:
http://www.amd.com/PublishingImages/photography/product/360px/AMD-Radeon-R7-260X-w-logo.png

One of the latest really good cards:
http://i.imgur.com/KVGHM3m.png

Do you see the difference in the length of the card compared to the golden pins on the bottom right of it? Those pins are the same length on both cards.

Your card is small and weak.

Unrelated, I don't know how you can play a game on 30fps, I think I'd throw up.

so what you are telling me is that this game takes so much more video card power that i cant run it on low. but i can run assassins creed unity on high. makes no sense at all. and heroes of the storm on max settings. and dota 2 on max settings among many many other games. with over 30 fps i was just using that as a bench mark

Ghosthree3
7th Feb 2015, 09:23
Heroes of the Storm and Dota are both MOBAs. They do not require powerful cards. I honestly think you're lying when you say you are playing Unity maxed out on 30fps because according to this:

http://gamegpu.ru/images/remote/http--www.gamegpu.ru-images-stories-Test_GPU-Action-Assassins_Creed_Unity-test-ac_1920_msaa.jpg

Apart from the very latest cards, almost nothing can run it at 30fps. Not even the Radeon R9 280x card, a card 2 series higher than your own - you have an R7 series card, which is surprisingly old considering the 2 series increase - can do it.

That or you think you're running on max graphics, but it is actually running on very low settings.

tunaburn
7th Feb 2015, 09:28
i didnt say unity on maxed out. I said on high settings and I sure am playing it. you are completely wrong about why i get 12 fps. Ill wait for another answer. this game requires 1gb video card to run on preferred settings. well im double that. thanks for trying to help.

Alright buddy, I totally don't know what I'm talking about and have no experience in this field at all.

Although Ghost may have come across a little harsh, they're probably right. Your processor and RAM are suffice (although 8-cores is currently overkill for gaming and will probably cause more bad than good) but the GPU is lacking a little... I'm not sure how you're getting 30 FPS on high settings in AC:Unity but either you aren't and it's not being displayed properly or something very weird is going on. Also... AMD. I've used AMD in the past and I've loved it but a lot of games simply don't like AMD hardware components. I'm currently using a GTX 480 which runs this game between 40-60 fps on high and the card is very cheap now. However, 12 FPS on low seems a little TOO poor... you should do a little better than that... but having said that, I remember reading that the difference in graphic settings isn't that noticeable.

ironhorse86

i appreciate everyones info. But I cant see myself spending hundreds of dollars to upgrade my video card just to play this game. everything else i play i can at least get a smooth looking experience. this is so choppy its insane. even on the lowest of the low settings.

I get what you guys are saying and I agree with you but if they cant optimize it to at least be playable on my computer then I feel this game is not going to do well. Most people I know have lower end stuff than I do so I cant even bother to tell them about the game.

I get 60fps on CS:GO which i play a ton of. I know thats an older game by far but if I can get 60 FPS on that game maxed out why cant i get at least 30 fps on this game with everything as low as humanly possible?

Ghosthree3

Yeah CS:GO is EXTREMELY well optimized, far more so than this game. Your only options are to try a custom low graphics config, wait for optimization or get a new GPU.

I hardly think graphics card length is the end-all of this issue. I have a GTX 760 as well as superior specs in the cpu and memory department and I still can't get over 15-20 fps on low settings. Through testing, I found that this only occurs in multiplayer matches, as I get 60+ fps playing the tutorial and on a private hosted server. Something is obviously not optimized correctly. Additionally, I had played this game previously in closed beta and had no issues with frame rate (at highest settings). It has to be an issue manifested in a recent (past few months, haven't played in a while) patch or update.

Tunaburn, don't let the graphics card shaming get to you. Your best bet for a solution is probably through tech support now as this must be a bug. Please update us with their response as this seems to be affecting a few of us.

Just quoting this since it perfectly describes the issue I've been having since the game updated just before open beta. 60 fps almost maxed out before hand, now I only get 60 on the absolute lowest settings save resolution and vsync. Again, only occurs during online matches, tutorial and private matches work just fine. A friend of mine, who also just came back after having played the open beta for ages, now only gets 15 fps on the lowest settings in both proper matches and the tutorial. So regardless of how good or bad the tc's graphics card is, right now the game is most definitely not running as well as it should do, or used to, so he's probably got a valid point.

You know it might have helped had you stated you had good FPS before a patch, I just re checked the OP and you never mentioned it, just complained about low FPS.

EDIT: Wait, LMAO, ok. The reason you're getting 15fps is BECAUSE OF VSYNC. Turn that **** off. VSync is pretty terrible, but among the normal reasons, if you fall below your monitor refresh rate in fps then VSync repeatedly cuts your FPS down by almost halves until you can hold the FPS.

So if you can't hold 60fps, it caps you at 30fps, if you can't hold that, you go down to 20, if you can't hold THAT, you go down to 15.

tl;dr, Turn VSync off, it's FPS cancer and gives you input lag.

Brackstone17

I think you got confused. First, I'm not the op. Second, with vsync on, I get 60 at lowest settings. I used to have vsync on, as well as pretty much maxed out settings, at get 60fps. Currently, with vsync off, and settings at what I used to have them at, I still get drops down to 20 fps. Vsync ain't the issue here, something changed that causes significant, period drops in framerate (I still get these, even at lowest settings) and just generally made performance go all to hell.

I've actually been thinking it's something to do with the cpu, but I'm not sure. Sometimes the framerate drop was tied to audio issues, but I haven't noticed any of those recently. It's mostly the fact that the game is fine in the tutorial, but runs worse during matches (and noscam replays, actually) that's weirding me out. I'm just hoping the devs figure out what happened to make it change. I can thankfully still play, but on the lowest settings. I'm more concerned for my friend who can't play with such low framerate, but who used to be just fine. They seem to have a different issue (the tutorials still had bad performance), but given that we both started getting our different performance issues at the same time, there might be a related underlying cause.

Download CPU-Z and check the "Core Speed" near the bottom left, if it's not running at what is advertised - like if it's 800-1600mhz instead of 3400 - it's either throttled or in power saving mode. Launch the game and check again, if it's running at max speed it's probably fine, if it didn't change or is still no where near maximum, boot into your bios and turn off power saving mode and anything else you can find that could throttle the cpu.

I run this game with every graphics settings turned on (except Vsync) and maxed out at 900p, but I get anywhere from 30 to 80 fps.

Many people have told me that my hardware should easily be able to run this game at that kind of resolution with a constant, stable 60+ fps - my fps should never dip below 60.

This guy also runs max graphics but at a higher resolution - 1080p - than I do yet gets much better performance (50-60 fps) than I do. Only other difference is that he turns off motion blur. Plus his hardware is worse than mine, WTF?

It's a gimped card, only allowing 8x speeds on your 16x PCI express slots. A card (http://videocardbenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2620&cmp[]=92) from seven years ago, a geforce 9800 GTX, would rival his card... which is below the minimum requirements to play 90% of the games sold on Steam today.

OP: you're in luck because cards are cheap these days, especially AMD cards. But you are definitely going to have to plunk down a couple of hundred bucks if you intend on gaming on a PC - it's been the nature of the beast since the days of Doom.. ;)

My hunch is that, yes, I should be able play this game at its highest possible settings at a measly 900p resolution and get a framerate that is always 60 or above

Also Rundlesnatch made a comment about how some recent patch ruined his fps seemed eerily similar to my experience - before the Jan 29 patch fixing the Alchemist tutorial bug (the patch before the Summoner update) I felt like I had no framerate issues at all, gameplay was very smooth and responsive. But after the Jan 29 patch my framerate became much much more sporadic, ranging from 30 to 80 fps (I use Steam's in-game FPS counter)

But you are definitely going to have to plunk down a couple of hundred bucks if you intend on gaming on a PC - it's been the nature of the beast since the days of Doom.. ;)

You have yet to answer my question

Well have you tried turning off motion blur? I do.

Unfortunately turning off motion blur did absolutely nothing

Also this is similar to what Randalsnatch said earlier

I've completed again all 9 tutorials and my fps NEVER went below 70, and it was as high as 120 at times. Average fps was like 85. In multiplayer matches my fps never gets higher than 100, and is usually in the 30 to 60 range

Still no fix...? Or any info at all?

I am new to Nosgoth ( but not new to gaming ), and am having some SERIOUS FPS issues. It runs like the old DOOM on DOS platform. I have all the settings set for performance, and my system is enough to tun this game ( since I play Ghost Recon, Need for speed, and other High Res games on my PC ). What is the issue? I think Nosgoth could be a cool game, but until I am able to resolve the FPS issue, it actually sucks.

Running Samsung magician with no problem here. The only thing bad about it is RAPID mode.

what is the issue about rapid mode?

Nothing except it will invisibly eat a massive chunk of your RAM, took me ages to track it down. I think it was using 2gb out of the 8 I had at the time with no sign that it was using it. Unsure if that would scale with my 16gb, if not it probably isn't an issue.

I'm using a Crucial M4 SSD. I was able to play Nosgoth without any problems for some time.

I played this game at a friend's house on his super awesome pc. Come back to my house and try to play it and I can't! I'm so frustrated because I really like the game, but can't play it like this. Here are my specs:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640
6.1 GB of RAM

I know it's not the best but it meets the minimum requirements. I've already looked around and tried a few of the things people have suggested, but it hasn't helped much. I'm not tech savvy so if I could get a step-by-step on how to get the fps better I will be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL! Thanks.

Is this not outdated? My config files look completely different.

DesolatedMaggot

It is a bit dated but it should not look completely different. The only portion of it i don't recommend following is setting textures to 0, as he states it most likely will cause you to crash at startup. Also using DetailMode=5 will force fog on which is very bad for FPS, imo set it to 0. Everything else is solid.

Mishaygo

And I guess he switched the files to have DetailMode=0. Besides the GameBooster (I don't have that many things running on the computer) I did everything, still choppy af.

Thanks for the help, btw. I really appreciate it.

Okay, I went back, made the files read only, but now when I start the game the center is off to the right and to the bottom?

All it means is that I'm retarded. Copied his resolution. :nut: Should be good now, thanks for the help!

I am experiencing issues with having any decent FPS on my girlfriend's laptop. Its a gigabyte gaming computer I just got last september.
Specs on it:
-intel i7-4810mq
-16 gb of RAM
-Geforce GTX 860M
-128gb solid state drive for games and OS

also I just updated the driver and reduced the settings to their lowest including lowering the resolution and I still have 10-20 fps in a fight. I dont see why I should be having this problem. I doubht it is because the solid state is almost full (8Gb left).

EDIT: Borderless window helped a little bit but has made the game run completely smooth

I am having a problem with audio echoing and overlapping though

Do you have an integrated card as well? Open Nvidia panel and add nosgoth.exe and choose to run with your dedicated graphics.

Maybe also take a look at the guide to maximising your FPS (http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=149175).
