Oh, I'm positive that even if Square Enix doesn't resolve this, other people will.

Same, just bought it now. The DRM activated pefectly, of course. But I still can't connect to play the game.

Pretty sure the servers are swamped.

I had this problem and after a good hour of pressing network settings and ok to try and reconnect and finally went through.

Of course then my username and password didn't work so I am back at connection error now.

Don't think square realized how big the crowd would be on this.

I'm having issues trying to download the game and it hasn't showed up on my page. This is just unwelcoming for a newcomer.

Hi! I've got the same problem. Now I get connected but when I use my square enix credentials to log in it says my username isn't available. Have tried different usernames and also I can't tick the checkboxes. I'm getting FF7 for PSX in the mail soon though since I incidentally bought a copy on ebay one day before this release. So weird.

I bought and registered the game but i still am unable to play. My internet connection is working fine, the game detects that it is up-to-date but then hangs at 10% like the other players.

I am using "XP's internet connection sharing" to get my internet but everything else works perfectly. The machine running the game is Windows 7 64-Bit.

sbeck0729

Stupid thing does the same thing it has got to be on Square. If you click the register link before it gets stuck in the upper right hand corner the connection times out only to there server.

I just purchased my copy of Final Fantasy VII (PC) excited to play. Now that it is all installed & serial activated, I come across a face-palming error! "CONNECTION ERROR ... You need a working internet connection to log in to Final Fantasy VII." Funny...My broken internet seems to work fine on this forum!

So anyways, I've seen a few others post this problem...No solutions though. To be a bit more descriptive on what I'm dealing with... The game loads to 10-13% then gives me the error message. Please post any fixes I can attempt. I am a pretty frustrated consumer at this moment /tools/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-yell.gif

Please any users or Square Enix staff on forums assist me?

We are very sorry that you are encountering issues when connecting to FINAL FANTASY VII. At this time we are always working to improve the stability of the servers. For those of you still experiencing this can you please check the following:

<ul>
Have you tried disabling your antivirus and firewall before connecting to the game?
Please ensure your internet connection is stable
Please ensure there aren't any other programs running in the background that would interfere with your internet connection or with the download.
[/list]

Also, we would like to ensure you are logging into the correct area of the launcher. Once logged out please click on the Square Enix North America login area (under the Facebook login). You would be able to log in with the same information that you are able to log into the forums with.

SE-Chris
28th Nov 2012, 18:18
Typically people with the symptoms you are describing have entered their login information on the starting screen of the FINAL FANTASY VII launcher. This would cause you to log into the EU region servers and try to download from them. Please double-check that you are selecting Square Enix North America from that login screen and log in with the credentials you have used to get on the forums here and on FinalFantasyVIIPC.com. Also, can you please try running the MSCONFIG tool to initiate a clean boot of the system to ensure that no other programs are interfering with the connection of the game or the program from running in administrator mode.

I'm trying to log in using the email address i bought the game with. I clicked the SE NA box under the facebook icon and it's telling me invalid email address. I fail to see how it is invalid since I used it to buy the game and set up an account with it. Also, the tick boxes for accepting terms of use on the screen where you enter public name and your birthday don't work. Square has been coding software for 20 or so years, how are tiny things like this happening?

Syle
19th Dec 2012, 19:14
How can I go back to the login screen? When I open FF7, it goes straight to Your Game Is Up To Date, and the Loading (10%). Eventually I get an error message and am told that I have no active internet connection. How do I relogin?

wandering_goat
23rd Dec 2012, 19:33
Same thing happening to me as Matthew. When I can even get past the 10% loading mark (which is very rare), I then can't log-in, either on the original screen (where it just takes me back to it after entering my log-in details) or after clicking the NA button (where it tells me I have the wrong log-in info). I've never had issues with any other games like this before, will probably be giving SE a call later on and asking for my money back.

Ditto, I have never logged in. I installed the game, then launched it, now I get stuck at the 10% loading screen, and eventually this comes up: http://i50.tinypic.com/21ep4km.png

Not to derail the thread but Gravity is the worst at giving a decent enough answer, aside from the automated quick reply that it seems, that this poster does more to anger users than help out in the situation. I just bought the game about 45 mins ago. I installed it, entered my key and registered the game. I tried to launch the game even with the run as admin option in Windows 7. I also tried running the game in compatibility mode but I have the same problem. I have sent an e-mail to support either asking for a fix or my money back.

*edit*

I run Windows 7 Ultimate edition and managed to figure out a fix for me.

in the launcher's shortcut properties, click on the compatibility tab and chose compatibility for "Windows XP SP2"

Also put check marks in "disable visual themes , disable desktop composition, disable display scaling on high DPI settings"

also run as administrator, as mentioned previously.

Try launching the game and see if that works for you as it did for me. Support was utterly useless telling me how to download the game as opposed to actually reading my ticket mentionning that I had installed the game and just couldn't run it.

Not sure if you are trolling me but I am serious about this. Companies do this all the time, sell you something broken then take forever to help fix it. But on the other hand you see them in international courts spending billions to prosecute people pirating or spending enormous amounts of money to block illegal downloads.

I was having the same problem as most and I was stuck at 10% loading constantly then the game said connection error you are not connected to the internet. After running the desktop shortcut in administrator for about 1 hour I kept having the same failing results. Eventually I went into the Start menu and right clicked on the shortcut for the game in there and ran as administrator and it worked! hope this helps

This did allow my game to load 100%, however it still doesn't play when I click the play button.

I knew I should have just torrented this game. What a waste of money for a game that worked perfectly well over a decade ago.

I can't believe you have been selling a game for 7 months that doe's not work.

Trading standards would love you.

7 month old posts and still the same problem, just cost my self a tenner rushing into

buying it, rather than checking forums first.

Ignoring and pushing people from pilar to post won't make this go away....

You can't sell a game that doesn't work yet!!!

Played the game on windows 8 and was working fine. Had to change it due to some updating errors back to windows 7 and now i am having all the errors the others are having :(. Freezes at 10% and won't seem to load further.... *sigh. A game i loved and played over 10 years ago and this small issue is causing me to not play....

I just purchased this game and it won't work for me either, hell I haven't even seen a screen that lets me put in my email address to log in, it just goes straight to 100% updated, then 10% loading, then connection error.

No wonder this steaming turd only cost me 5 bucks.

Purchased the game 3-28-2013.

It is now 4-1-2013 and I am still having the "10% - no internet connection" error.

I have never been able to get into the game.

I have never been prompted to enter a log-in screen name or password.

I have tried running with applocale in every language.

I have tried running it "as administrator".

I have tried with AND without giving it permissions for firewalls.

I would like assistance from SE to get this running properly or would like to seek a refund.

Thank you.

so after reviewing this entire post, and having the same issue as everyone else... kinda **** that i wasted my money... maybe this is a ploy to gain free money? no real product and they are simply using the name as a draw in.

Wish I would've known about this problem before I bought the game today. Constantly getting stuck 10%. I have no idea why they decided to implement this convoluted system to play a simple game.

Hey Everyone,

I found a fix that worked for me, so I'm posting it here.

Description of my issue: Launch FF VI from shortcut after successful Key activiation and Square-Enix account creation. Game updates then goes to a loading screen that stays stuck at 10% complete. The process appears to be running fine when viewed in Windows Task Manager. Eventually, you may get a connection error from the launcher. Launching as Admin doesn't seem to work.

My Fix: During account creation an email was sent to your email address The email is sent from @na.square-enix.com with the subject line: Square-Enix Confirmati<wbr>on. You need to authenticate your account by following the link in the email. Once I did this, there was no problem proceding to 100% load. I was prompted to sign in (this is an important step): You will need to select the method that you'd like to use to sign in. I selected the Square-Enix option and used the username and password created when I bought the game. This is the sign in area that SE_Chris is talking about when he mentions selecting your region.</wbr>

I hope this solves the issue for some of you! Good luck!

My System Specs for reference:

Windows 7 64-bit

8GB RAM

GTX 560Ti Graphics

i5-2500k CPU

ok i have to 10% connection error thing.

although i have a question could this be due to a stupid oversight on SEs part, i'm from the UK and im registered with the european section of SE and bought my FF7 through it, but all through the previous thread it has said about connecting to the North american servers.

well according to the North American Servers i don't have an account, so could FF7 be looking fo an account which is not on the North American Servers?

FYI i did not get a choice as to which region to connect to.

how difficult would i be to let one account cover all regions, for christ sake i can log into the british and american Amazon sites and see what i've ordered but Square Enix can't manage it with their members site?

Not in my case. I have purchased several copies of the game over the years (PS, old PC, PSN, this new PC release...) but, even so, I still prefer playing the old PS version on my PC. Just pay for the game and then pick your favourite downloadable version if it turns out you can't play it.

(Actually, I was simply trying to make a joke.)

How frustrating. I bought the game because I have several hours to myself for once and I get this connection issue. Anyone have luck?

I have Added a firewall exception and Completely turned off firewall.
Turned off anti-virus. Added Launcher to Exceptions there too.

Ran as Admin
Ran in XP Compatibility Mode.

Nothing........ Stuck at No Connection... I have tried a good 50 times now.

I was actually pretty excited to play ff7 all over again, but as everyone else here I have the no connection issue. I've tried every work around listed here and nothing works. I tried to download the game to my laptop but the re-download link didnt work, so tried again and again, now I'm out of download attempts apparently. I just requested a refund and I would suggest everyone having this issue do the same. Fix the problem I'll happily re-buy the game, til then just refund me!!!

Yes, kinda upset about this...ruins my whole night as I've looked forward to starting this allday (after an insane day). I read on other forums that after about the 40th try, it let people start the game. Also, running as Admin seems to work for some. I guess I'll keep trying to run as Admin for around 40 times. Sad that this is an issue....

After many, many start ups, re-configurations, reading on forums, etc it still will not get past the 10% load mark, and continues to give me a Internet Connection error. Making this 10+ year old game have DRM was an idiotic, and stupid idea if they cannot get it up and running within a year (since this issue is that old). Square-Enix, your coders suck and your customer service is terrible.

Absolutely same issue here. Bought the day it released and played for a few hours, and now today it's stuck on 10%. Very disappointed with how Square Enix has ignored the issue and I'm afraid it, along with the convoluted download process, has soured my feelings for the brand. You have lost a customer.

Experiencing the same issues from Australia... I couldn't even find any EU (apparently Australia is EU according to SE) forums to go get help on....?

Filed a support ticket, I am doubtful they'll get back to me or that the problem will be fixed.

EDIT: I ran "netstat -bn" from my command prompt while I was at the "10%" screen, the response I got was 2 IP addresses being used by the launcher.

202.58.12.98
80.244.189.82

Both going over port 80. First one gives 403 forbidden, which is good, the server at least responds with something. The second times out, I am going to put my money on it being the one responsible.

Got a DNS cache logger, appears to be trying to load weblet.square-enix.com, which resolves to 80.244.189.82, but the server itself does not respond.

After further investigating with a local server and playing with my hosts file I managed to find the full request being

weblet.square-enix.com/banner.php?id=<some value here>

Not sure if the value linked is something to do with my account, or todo with FF7.

Wondering if I write a java applet to launch the ff7_en.exe from within the launcher if I can get it to not display that silly message.

Im guessing long weekend and all that the square enix or digital river server people got a bit tipsy celebrating and bumped the off button to the game servers of final fantasy 7. We can only hope someone takes notice of the downed servers ( oh wait probably server) and maybe get the issue resolved for the paying customers who are not too pleased with the service.

When I use my host file and redirect that to my local server, that content is loaded and displayed in the area where the "10% Loading" bar is. I forget what comes next, I think it might be a login screen, I am not 100% sure.

This is some bull****. All that is Sqeenix is terrible... the website is a clusterf*** of random - you have your EU Square Enix account, then your NA account, and a totally different "Square Enix account" official looking login site, like its for employees or something. I tried inputting the game key into the "my registered games" section on the NA site, but it didn't even fit! I went over to the EU version of the site and it had two options, one for the normal looking code, and one for mine, so it input it there and now apparently I own two copies of FF7.

I tried getting a refund, but when I selected what product (FF7) I wanted a refund for, it just said "please select the product you want a refund for". And then they have this totally different company handling their downloads, so even if Squeenix eventually finds out about this, I doubt they'll either care or if they do, I doubt they can respond as quick to this as they should.

I too just recently got the "Not Found... the requested url blah blah blah" thing, after getting a "connection error" picture. Now all it is is some black text on a black background... couldn't even make the error look nice. Looks like the website that the launcher is trying to sync with is down; going to "weblet.square-enix.com/ (http://weblet.square-enix.com/)" gives me a (after about 2 minutes of loading) "Parallels Plesk Panel" (web hosting panel).

You guys have blew since FFX-2. This is about as "resting on your laurels" as it gets. Sorry for the rant.

Worst mistake ever downloading this game. At least we are finally being told, it is not our computer or human error. The online registration process is the worst ever created. The pretentious instructions given on the support forums really pissed me off. "Use the code given to you" non sense when we're never given a 16 digit code. Downloading this game from the "Official" website, paying and going 100% legit with a purchase and in the end just using a copied version due to not being able to play.

This is seriously irritating, I understand the need for DRM but this kind of problem for a non online game is moronic to say the least. Take a lesson from Steam here you can still play there games if cant connect, its called offline mode and they still enforce the DRM for there sold titles.

I originally bought Final Fantasy VIII years ago as a PC game on multiple CD's. There was no activation codes or DRM and it worked great. The requested URL/banner.php was not found on this server.

Apache Server at weblet.square-enix.com Port 80.

I feel I have to download something for this but I'm not sure what to do please somebody help or hopefully Square-Enx can actually be bothered to sort this out.

I don't understand why you expect me to be connected to the internet to play this. There are times I am not online, and if that stops me from playing an offline game, why pay for it in the first place?

I got an update from support saying that they are aware of the issue and are working on it now.

Considering weblet.square-enix.com now shows a parallels plesk page I would say they had hardware failure on their server. banner.php is not back in place, and I doubt anything that is used by it is back either.

If square's IT department is worth their weight in water, this issue would now be resolved in less than an hour... But I doubt we'd see that kind of turn around.

Yesterday was a holiday and the entire support team for all of North America had the day off. Still, you'd think something like a server issue that prevented peole from playing their DRM'd games would warrant a better response than this.

Well folks I think everyone should just have a bit more patience. All of you know that no matter when they fix it, your gonna hop on just to see Cloud jump off that train again to start his epic journey. The reason it seems so bad is because its such a badass game.

The way I figure it, and you probably don't wanna hear my opinion but still, it's your fault for paying for the game so now you have to wait for them to fix it, its not like they're not going to -cough- Sim City -cough- but you decided to buy Final Fantasy VII digitally so this is what you get, you could have bought the game discs for it good luck with that, or you could have downloaded it illegally like some guy said openly (good job pal) so just wait patiently when they are done they will let us know, if you dont wanna wait make the patch/fix yourself then

To Square enix people. maybe consider a little tiny game stream company like STEAM to host your final fantasy 7 Im guessing they have all the expertise that seems to be missing on your end. I own the game but dont seem to be able to access it to play. Very odd as I thought the idea was i give you money to play an on line game and you provide hmmmmm lets see the customer to actually play that game. Oh by the way tomb raider was awesome and Im glad I had the disk for that game as I am able to play when I want to. What a concept.

Same issue... bought it when it first released and played that night for a good few hours. Then stopped for few months, come back to it and stuck on 10% :/

hmm i think part of the problem is secu-rom drm its a hunch but i think se should consider software defender its much more user/pc friendly for the devolper and consumer my mass collection of 30-40 h rated adult dating sims use it never a problem with it

and its cost for service is $19-$20.00usd a month for the devolper/publisher

i cant even register the game to my account i put the 4 sets of characters that make up the serial number but get invalid information

I spent my $11.99 on this game since i cant use my my playstation or consoles due to my left arm being paralyized from a near fatal stroke on 1-13-2010 im running windows 8 pro x64 with mediacenter 16gb ddr3 2ghz corsair dominatorgt

2 sapphire radeon hd 7770's 1gb gddr5 each

soundblaster x-fi elite pro

intel core i7 975 extreme edition quad core 3.3ghz

I dont even get to a login page just the updater....

People keep saying "Be patient, they'll fix it as soon as possible." Well honestly we shouldn't be dealing with this for a single player game in the first place.. They haven't told us ANYTHING except they have a problem... Duh!? It's not that we're not being patient, because I'm a pretty patient guy. But when I pay for a game and can't play it because the team takes a day off for the holiday, that's just dumb... I shouldn't have to wait for them to play FF7. I would honestly like to just hear their reason behind the online requirement, because I don't think it would be a very good one. Pirates will pirate it, and the buyers will buy it legally. Like all of us who are now having a problem. Just make the game playable offline. Or use Steam to distribute it from now on. I know the team is doing their best to fix everything, I support them in every way. The only thing I think is a huge problem is when someone decided to make it online required. I hope things change with games from here on out though. Best of luck to the people working on this matter.

I love how there are people with SquareEnix's **** so far in their mouths that they claim that this is completely alright and that it will be dealt with soon.

I guess you aren't of the people that have been dealing with this issue with no solution for 10 months straight. That's right... go look at how old this thread is and take that SquareEnix *** out your mouth. I never thought I would see such a horrible customer service OR game launch as this. Especially on a re-release.

TL;DR

Get that SquareE#nix *** out your mouth, the only thing this company had to do to sell this game was make it playable on modern computer hardware... the game is 10 years old. This thread is 10 months old. Nearly a year to fix this BS???

Has a workaround of fix been fully found yet?

PS emulator?

i dug up my old 4 cd pc edition from 1998/99 triangle box edition I dont know if something that old will work with winxp vista 7 8 64 bit editions cost me $12.00usd to have the oxidized acryllic polished off by a professional cd re surfacer... ide rather have my download edition working than rely on archaic optical media could use farstone virtual drive to image and use it in a similar way one would use a *.vhd image to restore a drive or backup a mission critical system in my occupational/vocational practice of choice

The problem never existed for me to begin with. I'm willing to defend SquareEnix at least to the point that you're not willing to find a workaround for yourself. If you've managed to successfully log into the game once, you've successfully managed to setup your account period and should not be worried about a connection error. Just turn the connection off period and the game will play in fully offline mode, and not even bother using that ridiculous cloud server; yes it's not a perfect solution, but it worked for me so it can work for you.

As far as the connection problem goes itself, I recommend checking your firewall settings and seeing whether or not there is an exception set for FF7En.exe. I've noticed that my game didn't have any firewall rules setup for it, despite using the internet. That was really awkward, and there ought to be one in your firewall software. Beyond that is beyond the scope of my knowledge, but I'll say it again. I've never had a problem logging into the game, never (tested the connection even as I was writing this reply). Although I have had problems connecting to the cloud server; and the fact that the game forces you to wait for the cloud server is really a turnoff, and why I physically disconnect the internet before playing FF7 anymore (Please, please, please add the option to turn off the cloud server, I don't care about using character boost, the cloud server for FF7 is more annoying than useful).

[Edit]

I just noticed that theres been a report of maintenance on another forum on this website. I am however, still able to connect and they report that you could potentially still log in using your facebook account. Hopefully this maintenance helps solves any problems this re-release of FF7 still has.

I see this thread is old and still this problem persists. I got fed up waiting for their service and dusted off an old copy of my FF7 PC. With a little bit of tweaking I got it to run on Windows 7 64bit Professional. Time it took me to get my old version running was faster than they could fix their servers.

Uninstalled the version I purchased from Digital River. Only person now laughing is Square cause they got my money. Never again will I purchase another game from them.

So last night I was playing my Steam copy of FFVII, I signed off and decided to go to sleep.

I woke up this morning, only 4 hours after playing it last, and now when the launcher begins, it is stuck at 10%, and then claims I have no internet connection.

I don't have McAfee, I've turned on and off firewalls, allowed exceptions for both .exe files, toyed with IPs for a proxy, and nothing.

I'm seeing on steam forums that a lot of people are facing this same issue. Are the servers down for maintenance or are they just overloaded due to sales?

Uninstall the game

Run the registry editor by typing REGEDIT on the search bar

Search for Fantasy

Delete the ff7launcher and ff7 registries.

Restart computer

Download the game again
