No one seems to have posted problems with their game crashing, only fps / driver issues, so i made this thread to say there is a problem somewhere. Ive yet to exit the game through the menu :D i normally get a crash in the tank or when there are explosions (which doesnt exactly narrow it down alot in this game :p) most of the time i get about 15 - 20 minutes of gameplay b4 the crash.
Not alot i can i say just hope whatever is causing it will be fixed in final game.
Pc specs in sig, running Vista 64bit.

I've been trying since Thursday to get this game working on my machine. I can play for about 5 minutes at most before it freezes or crashes completely. I've tried using both the latest nvidia drivers and the ones that were pulled. I've removed/reinstalled physx drivers and tried just about every version I can find. I've closed almost every possible application in the background. The only thing I haven't done is swapped out my video card or mouse and keyboard. I've gone and turned on/off every option possible in the graphics setting, even going as low as 640x480 windowed mode with everything turned off and low.

I wish I could at least see the error the game is generating so I can narrow it down.

Top part of my dxdiag. If an admin or developer wants the full log, just ask.

It seems I can prolong the crash if I disable Microsoft Security Essentials, or tell it to exclude the Just Cause executable. Not getting into heavy firefights seems to help a lot too. I'll keep working on it.

just to add to your post, put my problem in the forum already:

Not exactly a crash, but the blackscreen is near to that cause with both you can't play ;)

No luck still. Here is a list of things I have tried.

Uninstall/Reinstall
Steam verify game cache
Nvidia 195.62 drivers
Nvidia 196.21 drivers
Nvidia 196.75 drivers (recalled)
Uninstall/Reinstall Physx with different versions
Shutdown non-game or os essential processes
Vista Compatibility mode (regular, sp1, and sp2)
Ran as Admin
Toggled every feature on and off
Tried every resolution both windowed and full screen

And probably more I forgot because I've spent so much time on this. This is the only game I've had issues with on this machine and it bothers me because I really want to play it.

Someone was kind enough to look at the dump files that are generated when the game crashes. They stated "Looked at a whole bunch and they all seem to indicate some memory allocation issue. Only a handful of the crash dumps show a consistent location for the crash so it's probably a general issue. one of the crashes shows an attempt to allocate 415mb in one go. Definitely strange."

I'm guessing it's a game issue. Hopefully someone from support (or a developer) sees this.

Could you describe in more detail about what actually happens? Crashing and freezing are overused terms these days and can mean various different things to different people. Describe the initial point when you know something is different or wrong, how do you know this? Sound stops? picture freezes? black screen? error messages? Does your system lock up entirely? Press the caps lock or num lock keys, do the lights still turn on and off? Can you press CTRL+ALT+Del or ALT+Tab to restore to the desktop? If you wait around 5 minutes does the crash or freeze resolve in some way by restoring the game to a window with a blank/black screen or are you put back to the desktop and the game is terminated for you?

I know thats a load to go through right there but it really helps to narrow these problems down. If you can, generate dxdiag (Start > dxdiag > Save all information) and msinfo files (Start > msinfo32 > File > Save/Export), add them to a ZIP file and attach them to your post (little paperclip button) and we can take a look at your system(s) further.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. There are two things that happen. One is a VC++ Runtime Error that causes this error (http://imgur.com/MSB2Y.jpg) to appear. That happens about 50% of the time. The rest of the time windows pops up a dialog that says "This program has stopped responding". I've let it sit there forever but nothing happens. The system is still working but the game is no longer functional and must be closed. I can ctrl+alt+delete and end the task, or alt+tab to the error message and close it that way.

Since I do not have privileges to add attachments:

System Info & DXDiag (http://ohmybody.net/test/systeminfo.zip)
dump files from crash (http://ohmybody.net/test/jc2demo_crashes.zip)

Hopefully some resolution can come from this because I really like the game.

Your drivers are coming up dated for 11/20/2009 install the latest drivers from here : http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_winvista_64bit_196.21_whql.html although the recalled ones should have been the better choice, hopefully they will reappear soon enough.

As for C++ errors navigate to c:\program files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\just cause 2 Demo\vcredist\ and run the program here, see if that helps at all.

The reason my drivers are out of date was because I was trying all different versions I could get my hands on. If you scroll up you will see that I've tried all variations of the drivers and this still occurs. I've even gone and uninstalled all my VC++ Redistribute and reinstalled them from the demo folder but the crash still happens.

Plap, have you run DriverCleaner Pro when changing out the video drivers? If not all the driver switching can be making the problem worse for you. Try wiping the driver entirely with this program and then installing the latest drivers you can grab. Also is your graphics card from Nvidia or another brand? If it's another brand then try getting the drivers off their website as sometimes that can help with odd problems.

Steps for DriverCleaner Pro :
1. Download DriverCleaner Pro (you can get it for free if you look around a little)
2. Uninstall the Nvidia drivers through the Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel
3. Run DriverCleaner Pro
4. Boot your computer into Safe Mode (Google this one if you need, I completely blanked on how to do this lol)
5. Run DriverCleaner Pro again (this helps ensure it got all the misc data)
6. Restart your computer again and install the drivers and you are all set.

Might not fix the problem entirely but this won't hurt to try. Also have you tried in windowed mode? Different graphics settings? There could be something that your computer is having an argument for whatever reason. Play with the settings and if you find anything please let us know. Hope you are able to get the game up and running. If you are running Sli, make sure to turn that off. I know it sucks but the demo seems to be having issues with Sli rigs currently, I am having that issue myself.

Demo patched solved my crashing issue. I've finally been able to see what happens when the timer hits 0. Thanks!
