View Full Version : Project: Extinction of the Razielim

So I was rereading some of the lore posts and I had a brilliant idea. Why not have the community contribute to make a small 5-ish minute long animation featuring the Clan's siege on the Razielim's home territory.

This is what I have so far in terms of progression (some creative liberties may be taken with setting and things)

*cue Ozar Midrashim*
An elder vampire draped in robes walks out onto a battlement.
Dramatic shot of Razielim sigil on shoulder cloak
A shot of the other 5 clans assembled armies in the distance
Close ups of some of the other vampires, featuring one per clan
Lieutenants perched on a large jutting rock
Turel gives the order to charge
Robed Razielim flares wings, and conjures a fireball in hand, releases wave of fire at camera (Razielim were the sorcery-esque ones right)
Tyrants shatter gates, other vampires swarm over walls
Badassery ensues, highlights of Razielim warriors butchering incoming vampires, some using wings to fly higher to cast magic and throw explosives on the enemy.
Robed Razielim is overpowered, eyes and mouth glow white, he explodes a la Sunlight glyph style, decimating nearby Clan forces
Clans begin overrunning the Razielim
A deformed vampire (Zephonim), drops down off a wall and assasinatesa soldier, a Reaver (probably using in game model style) leaps up a tower and snares a winged Razielim
Turel blasts open doors to council room (TK powers FTW), followed by other Lieutenants, overpowers guards.
Shot of cowering clan elders

So I have some experience with Blender 3D, and can do the character modeling and the animation as well. I have a few humanoid models done (I need some practice with texturing and sculpting but that will come), and I've done a Satyr that has similar cloven hooves.

If you want to contribute, potentially linking or doodling some artwork to follow while modeling (I'm an engineer not an artist). I will probably use similar models to the current elder turelim, the reavers (I might use the fledgeling reaver, but exchange the feet and hands with evolved ones), or even just bounce around thoughts and ideas here.

Also anyone else that has experience in character modeling and animation and such is free to help out.

Rewards for assistance: The feeling of helping a create an awesome action sequence from Nosgoth's history, and a shout out at the end. Who wants to see and help me go through with this?

If you have something you want to submit or send to me to look at, you can email me at dacostaj3@hotmail.com, and I'll post it in the updates with your name attached.

Getting started: So I'm going to first make a basic vampire mesh, using the Turelim pics recently released. Any vampires I do will just be a resizing and redistribution of the proportions of this mesh. (Normally I'd prefer a side view for depth and stuff like the legs and arms are slightly flexed like in this picture, but hey I'll wing it)

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c238/dacostaj3/Gettingstarted_zps90e3dd53.png

It's a little known fact that when a new vampire is created, they start out as these uniform cubes of nameless grey mass. Behold a baby Turelim, c'mon lookit that face:

Shortest "This Little Piggy" song ever:

Tony Turelim gots tha bootay (just for giggles, won't be in final)

I live for the claws the claws the claws, livin for the claws claws, livin for the claws claws

I present Tony: I'll give him a face and muscles once I master the sculpting and texturing tools.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c238/dacostaj3/Turelim_zps330b1437.png

JFG: (just for giggles) So I was trying to figure out sculpting tools, and accidentally this, looks like a giant gooey marshmallow:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c238/dacostaj3/Marhsmallowvamp_zps4005b671.png

So I decided to hang the sculpting for now and just do what I can by blocking out features, which gave me some decent eye sockets (using place holder yellow ovals for eyeballs):

As any soul reaver veteran knows, You need the right gear to put a Vampire down for good. Can you place this pokey pokey stick? (Slightly modified the one end by putting large stabby blade on it)

So now that I've completed the mesh of the Turelim, here's what I'm thinking for the remaining classes.

Clans:
-Razielim: So I'm thinking since the Razielim are supposed to be the most beautiful looking of the clans, I'm going to go for an almost elven look, probably a drow since they look more menacing (but with paler skin and sans the spider motifs), with large batty wings for the elders that have them.
-Dumahim are going to look like current reavers
-Rahabim are going to have a very slight build (I almost want to make them female, looking at some Rahab art, coupled with the armlets that the Rahabim wear make me think they were initially meant to be female, and the Lieutenant himself.)
-Zephonim will probably look like decievers
-Melchahim will probably have inspiration from the vampires from Priest (2011 film), with the graying, almost skeletal frame, and some might be animated with the hound like locomotion

Sounds neat, but a lot of work. Also, afaik there is no glyph magic / sorcery used by any vampires at this point in the timeline, so that unfortunately rules out a few of your cinematic ideas. Also, I don't think the Razielim clan elders would cower, and the blog lore describes a different scenario (http://www.nosgoth.com/blog/the-fall-of-the-razielim-part-2) for their demise.

Your models look pretty good so far. I'm excited to see what they look like after you've added higher poly details & textures. Do you plan to use the game, the UDK, or some other engine for cinematics? Assuming it allows use of UnrealScript, I'll take a shot at any coding you might need done after the artwork is complete.

I'm using blender 3D which has all the animation stuff I should need. It also had a game engine of I wanted to play with stuff.
Also I mentioned I might tweak some stuff just to flex creative muscles. And the Razielim were described as spellbinders, which means magicky sorcery to me :)

Well that is certainly a surprise! Are you sure you haven't mistaken them for the Ancient Race? As they were the winged vampires capable of powerful sorcery, not Razielim. If anything, looking at how Raziel's moveset evolved over the course of games - they might be described as capable and agile fighters, if anything - Raziel's acrobatic moves in Defiance show that he was more than a match for even an experienced fighter like Kain, something you wouldn't expect of a winged creature. Although we're not aware how long did he possess his wings... So my idea - don't make them defacto sorcerers - there has never been any actual hint about this.

Badassery ensues, highlights of Razielim warriors butchering incoming vampires, some using wings to fly higher to cast magic and throw explosives on the enemy.
That's a little bit too much... At this point we might start to wonder how a race of winged creatures able to fire magic projectiles got sacked by other clans as there are no adequate opponents amongst them! Only Rahabim and Turelim clans had projectile attacks, but those appeared a little(much more) later than now... Besides - Kain's vampires, all of them, employed brutal ways of combat, thus showing their superiority (That's why vampires here don't wield weaponry - why would you need it if you are one yourself?) and none of them actually showed any sign of being capable of spellcasting other than Kain and there might be a reason to that - it made Kain even more of a god he was to his children, not to forget that he had access to knowledge of events yet to come(thus he didn't even need seers) and he isn't the kind of guy who likes to share just of his kindness... Various arcane tools and gadgets Kain used in BO1 are most likely gone as well, because there are none who could forge them except for Vorador. So I strongly recommend make the whole scene a melee bloodbath with Razielim being completely overwhelmed and overrun by united Clans. There is no chance for them, no hope, other than to run for this is not an honorable combat, but massacre and extermination for the sake of entertainment.

If you'll do it - I'll gauge your eyes with my thumbs, I swear...
Just joking :P But seriously - you're too much of a romantic. Just because their leader, Raziel, looks like an unliving incarnation of goth beauty doesn't necessarily mean that they all looked like that! Further vampires in each clan were created by their lieutenants, so I think that Raziel, much like everyone else, would search for capable individuals other than those simply possessing beauty... or possibly David Bowie genome in his blood (http://www.google.ru/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&docid=yreiZIyg9wUSdM&tbnid=j_WkstOGE-bqJM:&ved=0CAIQjBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.comicvine.com%2Fuploads%2Foriginal%2F3%2F32685%2F664452-raziel_legacy_of_kain_soul_reaver_david_bowie.jpg&ei=ku0eU4i0L8Po4gTR6IGQCQ&psig=AFQjCNEHxaUfE85ZA7xrbJy9TzDSLVKlzg&ust=1394622223566950) turned those he chose beautiful too.
But seriously - elves? Dude, this isn't some kind of Twilight, come on, show this game some respect...
Here are some pages, where you shall find various art and concepts:
- Raziel (http://legacyofkain.wikia.com/wiki/Raziel)
- Janos Audron (http://legacyofkain.wikia.com/wiki/Janos_Audron)
- Ancient Vampires (http://legacyofkain.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_vampires)
- Vorador (http://legacyofkain.wikia.com/wiki/Vorador)
- Kain (http://legacyofkain.wikia.com/wiki/Kain)

So my point - go for versatility, not just amazingly gorgeous winged beings. Not even the Ancients were as beautiful as you want to portray Razielim. They are converted humans and our beauty varies.
Above all - don't turn them into martyrs or heroes... they were not.

So far that's all, but I'll be back!

First of all, looking back at my message I think it to be a bit(very) harsh. I am sorry for that, I hold no grudge against you.

And I've read some more about them, thanks to Sanguise23 for pointing out my mistake, and there really is that little message by Daniel, quote: "Artisans, Philosophers, Spellbinders, Tacticians..., Blood Bankers, and manipulators."

To be honest - I've never seen SR manual and its contents, but now, knowing how little actually got into the game, I wish I never did... And yet I still stand my ground about your example being excessive, simply because Raziel starts to look bad in comparison :nut:

iirc hes right about them being capable of sorcery, just as Melchahim where necromancers, i believe it says as much in the manual for SR1. might be word of mouth from Daniel Cabuco though

This sounds really awesome - can't wait to see what you come up with! :D
Really wish I could contribute to something like this...but I have no skills in this department.

VVZigel: I definitely plan to show that the Razielim never had any chance, and I'm hoping the latter half of the piece will definitely portray that overwhelming blood bath that you mentioned, but as the Razielim due to being descended from Kain's first born and most powerful son, it can be argued that they were the most powerful vampires in Nosgoth besides the lieutenants and Kain, so I am choosing to highlight this view as well.

To your point about appearances, I deliberately picked a drow due to having harsher features then typical elves (unless you look at all the fan service art for the women). And I'm not hoping to be a carbon copy elf, I just want to include some of the facial features such as jaw line and such, and mix in more vampire traits.

I've seen the art that Daniel stated would be the Razielim's Soul Reaver forms if they lived and might include subtle nods to these in the elders. I'm hesitant to use the links you provided because they do not reflect this generation of vampires as a whole, and have little bearing on the Razielim except for Raziel and even then you can't say they would look like Raziel. For example look at the contrast between Turel himself and the Turelim.

I cannot disagree with you here; you're absolutely right with Razielim being the most powerful of clans due to their progenitor. Same goes for the rest. And thank you for explanation about appearances, because I honestly shudder at the thought...

Thank you! My fears are laid to rest and therefore I wish you best of luck with your project! Due to being devoid of any talent, rather than killing time, I shall humbly provide moral support :P

If I may - I'd like to advise you not to be hasty and take your time with the project, better late than half-rushed! This might turn out to be very interesting.

I knew mentioning elves on this forum would be touchy unless I explained it right, but I figured it would be better to deal with it now than to face the criticism after everything was finished. And as I'm sure you've guessed, I'm using the posts above to showcase my work as it proceeds, so that people can add their suggestions and such while it's still easy to resolve, (sans humour breaks, I need to amuse myself once in a while).

And I am in no position to rush through this. What I've put up so far (The Turelim mesh) is approaching the upper limits of what I can do with character creation. I'm looking at tutorials and such to brush up on sculpting and texturing the musculature and faces, as well as how to properly simulate properties such as fluids (blood, lots of it), particles (dust, fire) and cloth (banners and robes). Blender is handy in that it has modifiers that automatically apply the physics of those properties to the object, but I still need time to work it out. The bulk of the animation: posing, lighting cameras etc. is fairly in comparison, with some nitpicky stuff to make sure the characters/effects deform and move properly.
Add this to school (My second set of midterms are next week, and final exams start april 14th), working, family/boyfriend duties etc... it might be some time before this hits an acceptable stage.
