What do you guys think, do we need anyone more than harley, Ivy's back in her cell so she probably won't be back, and who else would you like to see in the game?

Batgirl = Oracle. And let's leave it at that; I personally think she is a much more likeable character as Oracle than as some wanna-be gender-reversed Batman. :/

I'm ok with a bit of eyecandy in videogames. I was just making fun of the rather stupid thread title. :P Some good eyecandy is fun, if it's in correct doses. Too much of it, however, makes it all look crass and almost offensive to the player.

I'm much more bothered, actually, by how female characters are seen in the Batman universe: often they're in the story FIRST for the eyecandy, and then, later, maybe, also for the story. It should really be the other way around. Somehow it gives me the feel that the male characters are the ones who have the most fun; while the ladies are in there only to look pretty.

Things were handed fairly decently in B AA, however. Poison Ivy's hypersexuality is part of her personality, almost part of her psychosis, so it worked well. But I have higher hopes for Catwoman.... that she may hopefully have a stronger narrative role besides looking all feline and sensual.

....Speaking of old guys, they're actually among the ones whose character models I was more amazed with, once unlocked in B AA. Because it seems much more impressive to virtually create a convincingly wrinkly and wizened skin, than a fresh and smooth skin.

They can always use Cassandra Cain or Stephanie as Batgirl if they wish to tho.

fair enough, i wouldnt want oracle out either, but never knock the later batgirl. cass cain, she actually works with oracle and is a total bad- ass. beat lady shiva twice also. she deserves a role!.

I think that with some tweaks here and there, that Batgirl visual concept could work for the challenge rooms.

But, what can I say.... when it comes to the story mode, I just want Batsy to be alone against the enemies, like it was with B AA. It simply works much better. I never was a fan of the Gotham super-crowded with vigilantes (Batgirl, Batman, Nightwing, Robin, Huntress....), but such a concept can work quite well for a game such as DC Universe Online. But, a game such as the sequel of B AA? No. I think it would really spoil everything.

Would you really think that B AA would have been better if there was Robin in it? Or a coop with Batgirl? No.

How so? How is it more better that 1 man can take down a bunch of villains all around different parts of Gotham with ease? It hasn't ever happened in comics, movies, games or cartoons so why should it be any different now? Do you want Batman to be somekind of a Super-Bat? =O

How exactly?

Would you really think that B AA would have been better if there was Robin in it? Or a coop with Batgirl? No.

The difference between BAA and BAA2 is the setting. BAA was the usual "Batman's trapped in Arkham and has to survive it" story, but really Batman saving the whole Gotham all alone? To me it makes Gotham seem like a playground with no real threats if 1 man just does it all. :hmm: But please do elobrate on your opinions! It's always awesome to hear what other people think.

Actually, the Batman -I- know does it all by himself. So, the difference for me would be to see him helped by a thousand other crazy dressed night vigilantes.

My Batman is the one from the '90s "Batman: The Animated Series" and from the Tim Burton movies.

To me, it's not unrealistic that he works alone. It's much more unrealistic that he gets so much help! The figure of Batman I know, is one of a special individual: someone who has both the money and the crazyness to go through such a project as to dedicate all of his life to the purpose of becoming a night vigilante dressed up in an eccentric costume. That is why he can achieve so much. He has such excellent skills because he almost maniacally dedicated his existance to the purpose of being the Batman. Secondarily, he also has the monetary funds to be allowed to do such.

Batman isn't Superman. He doesn't stop all the crime and makes the city safe. Gotham is still dark and corrupted and full of criminality. Batman does his part in trying to diminish the level of crime; but of course he doesn't wipe out all of the baddies. If you read the comic "Hitman", about a professional killer living in the poorest part of Gotham City, you can get a clearer picture of that.

All of this is destroyed by adding so many vigilantes in the comics. It's like suddenly everyone has the mind set to be another Batman. Everyone is enough skilled, enough dedicated, enough rich, and enough crazy. It just doesn't work.

Of course, I think it will work very differently on DC Universe Online (a game I'm really looking forward to). The style, atmosphere, storyline and concept of that videogame, are perfect for making a Gotham City filled with nocturne vigilantes. But, not so much for B AA, and if the sequel should follow the same stylistic lines (which I count on!!), then it shouldn't show us a Gotham City filled with many other superheroes.

I repeat it: if in B AA Batgirl and Robin and Nightwing would have come to Batman's help, do you sincerely believe the story and the atmosphere would have been as effective?
And if Tim Burton's movies had those characters, would they really have been the same?
And even the first Batman Animated Series, which I think is unsurpassed, never overdid it with filling its episodes with too many superheroes. In that long series, was Batman, and sometimes if the episode's style allowed it there was Robin, and just a couple times if it worked for the plot there was Batgirl.

He doesn't get help necasairly (sp) from other crazy dresses night vigilantes, but from regular people that he can trust as depicted in the short graphic novel story "Batman: Snow"

Though video game wise the atmosphere wouldn't really get ruined because Batman is more opened as a character (not so much, but still). He talks to gaurds and even makes corney jokes to the (i.e. I eat punks like these for breakfast) Tim Drakes Robin is a character along those lines and so is Nightwing. A small cameo wouldn't really ruin the game IMO, though I would really like to see Alrfed in the game, and if they would like to do a cameo I say maximum 1-2 cameos, since this is Batman Arkham Asylum 2 and not The Batfamily Arkham Asylum 2.

That's just my point of view.

Old_BenKenobi
18th Dec 2009, 01:12
Robin was in Batman TAS quite often. Even when he wasn't in an episode he was still there. Batman has had a Robin at his side for 70 years. As for the number of vigilantes in Gotham, they're called the Bat family for a reason. They all work under Batman, like troops. The only one I'm not fond of is the Barb Gordon Batgirl, because she's just a school girl. Thankfully they recast her in a more suiting and useful role and brought in a Batgirl with more experience and prowess.

If this game does take place in Gotham, then Batman would need help. If he could bring Gotham back by himself it would be ridiculous and on Gary Stu levels.

Catwoman is the logical choice. She isn't so much an enemy anyway. We all know Batman and her have an actual on again, off again romance. She won't, therefore, try to kill him. Even if she is pitted agaisnt him originally as a villain, for her own desires, she'll eventually switch sides to help him and the sexual and emotional tension will be played out. That will add a lot to the depth in this new one. It would also show up Dini's comment that subtle romantic, or subtle in general, exploration in video games can't be achieved. No disrespect to him, but he was wrong to make such comments.
