Hello!

First of all welcome to the forums. :)

I think they are real as well, but we haven't gotten official confirmation yet.
It has been awfully quiet lately...:hmm:

yeah, it's more like a "rumor" at least for now, can't wait for some time to pass

Arthur Pendragon

I am not so sure if I want the rumors to be true though because I don't really like horor games.Just make it as good as the last game.

I'd say real, and I wouldn't be surprised if they leaked it out themselves.

nikkinickels
6th Oct 2009, 00:17
max is probably right, they probably did leak it to see what the fans' reaction would be so that they'll know what to do, well if it's so, i hope they know what they're doing

I'd say they're real. No confirmation whatsoever but demanding the site take them down seems pretty real. I wouldn't mind if TR was action/survival/adventure/horror

I am not so sure if I want the rumors to be true though because I don't really like horor games.Just make it as good as the last game.

Nothing in the leaked art suggested a horror game, TR has always, I repeat always had mythical beasts such as Talions, streaky bacon men, yetis, giant spider things, mutants, thralls... I don't see why this time is any different, I mean really....

As for whether its real, I don't know I hope it is as the proposed suggestion seems a winner and has won the majority of the fan base's approval but I doubt they would leak it themselves.

I think it's real but I don't think it's final.

It seems to have been leaked by a market research company, maybe by someone taking the closed survey. That makes me think it's subject to change, perhaps significantly, based on the research. It would be a waste of time and money for Eidos if they had already decided it's final.

That said, I would be enthusiastic if it does turn out to be final or near final. Though I suppose it's best to reserve judgment for a tangible (or at least visible) game.

I cannot reveal my sources, but I heard a rumor that the next Tomb Raider game was some way into production but then was put on ice indefinately. It's probably nonsense and I have no further details, but I thought I'd mention it.

Ants_27_

Personally, I think the idea is great, bring on the horror:p Well, if it's true that is.

One thing I do admire (if true) is that it means Crystal Dynamics have stopped listening to the fans, Thank God! Ignore the fans, gain new fans if you must. As for the 'leak' we all know how good CD are at keeping secrets.

Mr.Croft

I -HOPE- It's real. I've ALWAYS wanted the game to have a slightly more Gore appeal, and many games that do have a more gore appeal bring in the money better I've heard.

I love Tomb Raider no matter what, but if they introduce more horror, and gore, I'll love it even more, as long as it keeps it's 'beautiful scenery' appeal, and action too. =D

And I've heard that sometimes the game has a problem with leaking, and revealing things too quickly.

Maybe they've secretly done this as a type of propaganda? Maybe their is actually a leaker. =o Who knows.

jayjay119
7th Oct 2009, 09:33
Maybe so but it looks like if there was a leak its not in Cd but in the marketing company that has been sending everyone who posts the pictures cease and discist orders.

The whole thing is a bit fishy to me i dunno what to think,on the one hand i want the concepts to be reall albeit with alterations but why would CD send their actual concept for the next game to a marketing company, wouldn't it be more likely they would send an old concept, but then again what use would that be? Confusing!

Meh, I try to be a realistic person. I don't see the glass half empty or half full. It's simply a glass that has water at the halfway point. Saying that, this point of view has done nothing to convince on whether or not this is real. :hmm:

On one hand, CD told everyone to take it down, like it was some big secret. On the other hand, they have done nothing ever since. Fishy... I really hope it's real, it has great potential IMO, and like Ants said, I really, really want CD to stop listening to the fans. Oh, what wonderful TR games CD could make if they stopped pleasing everyone...

Arthur Pendragon

I read what it said on the web site and it seemed from the description that it was a horror game. I don't actually hate horror games or gory games, just as long as it isn't "M" rated.
But we are getting wayyyyyyy ahead of ourselves it probably won't come out untill next february. But we can still hope and try to figure out what it is about.

Mr.Croft
8th Oct 2009, 12:35
I don't think CD is making the Game total Gore/horror. They're just adding a tidbit of it, to enhance it up a bit with a slightly new taste. It's like adding salt to your steak, instead of Ketchup =P

It's not going towards the 'all gore' or 'all horror' appeal, or atleast I hope not, but I do hope it does have some jumpers in the game, along with a little more blood...Just a little taste of a different appeal, that's all.

There is still going to be puzzles that twist your brain I bet,
Lara's physique will probably be slimmed down due to the age concept,
Still going to have kick ass guns!! And Rumor goes around of a nice mecheti/bow!
Remember these are all speculations because of the concept art that was leaked.

Who knows!!

Anywho, they're still on youtube:

One thing I will add, there had better be more than 3 enemies, especially if they're rumoured to be going the open world route.

:scratch:I don't think that it necessarily means it is real. They could have just been offended by the idea and thought it would lower intrest in the 9th game. I don't mean to completely cut you off though and I think you make an excellent case and this is just MY oppinion and I am still researching my oppinion. I completely agree although.... there is one flaw as I already stated it is possible that they (Eidos) just didn't like the idea. Like that "Harry Potter" thing that happened like 4 years ago (The person released fake book jacket designs as well as a fake title) I really do hope that it wasn't true because I don't like "M" rated games.

i didn't know about a harry potter thing four years ago and i was a mega harry potter fan. :p

Anyway... somebody came up with tomb raider origins, it doesn't mean it'll be an origin story. It's set when lara is younger so... maybe but i am not sure. isn't that just tomb raider chronicles though? because that's basically tomb raider stories. and tomb raider origins would be; Tomb Raider: How she got to become like the lara today. Well...

Not that this is becoming a Harry Potter Forum or anything but like a couple of years ago mabe not but i think so before HP 4 someone (it might have been Japan) Released a fake book jacket and title
and I like the idea of an origins story but I don't like the idea that Tomb Raider has been reduced to a meteocre "M" game:mad2::mad2::mad2:

I hope it's real, but very early in development.

I love some of the ideas behind the new concepts, but I don't really like the idea of a younger and inexperienced Lara.

It seems like all of these "reboots" are the trendy thing to do right now, but I'd rather have the badass Lara we all know and love.

Like the idea of an 'M' rated Tomb Raider, though. Bring it on!

Arthur Pendragon

That would be funny and it makes sense because it doesn't seem like something that the creators would turn out. You may have something here, keep researching about it and look at as many threads and posts you can so you can work more oppinions into it!! :):)

As long as the game-play doesn't involve a grid system or the game-play seen in Legend, Anniversary and Underworld; it's all good. Keep things new.

As for the concept (I think I've said this so many times before) but I welcome it, of course it may fall flat on its face and this CD will know. I just love the fact that CD seem to be going at the game will a 'Stuff the fans' attitude. Go on CD! Leave the fans, get new ones just please make the game you want!

To be honest I think CD, in a way are giving the fans what they want, just very subtly. They seem to have noted certain major complaints and offered solutions to them for example;

For the past 3 games people have been moaning about linearity: leaked info says TRO to be open world.

Complaints about the games being a touch childish: leaked info says 'M' rating.

Cd listen to the fans more than you think they just pick out the major problems among the pointless ones such as the braid vs pony debates, or the 'Lara's left calf was too chunky' threads. They are adding some originality to it now though which i like.

I never really thought of that.

I also forgot about the whole open world concept. To me that is the only one I don't think CD would be able to pull off because an open world is a pretty challenging thing (or so I would think anyway). Then again I automatically think of open worlds such as Oblivion, Fallout, GTA, e.c.t. I suppose there are other definitions of 'open world'.

I do agree that they are throwing some original ideas onto the table and I wish them well wth it, even though fans will still compain "Lara's hair is shorter!!!" and all the other blah, blah the fans spew onto the internet:lol:

jayjay119

Well that's the sad truth of the matter, some fans will moan endlessly about pointless things that we know CD will not listen to such as the hair, or the colour of the shirt or the boots etc, as long as they pic out the main consistent problems, which they seem to do its fine.

As for open world being something they may find difficult, I agree, heir games seem to quite linear so making a new engine to generate an open/ sandbox world may be hard. But if they are to do it I hope they hire an established developer who has worked with open world engines before and use an existing modifed engine like the one Assassin's Creed uses for example. By the look of their website that may be what they are doing. They recently put up a job vacancy for a developer with open world editing/ unreal engine experience and a camera system specialist vacancy also.

I'm like the only one that cannot STAND the unreal engine lol, I think that engine is horrid.

Sandbox I'm not sure CD can do,the only real time I've seen it properly done was by Betheseda. But if this new game is open world, I hope we don't see it till at least 2012 range. I hope they actually spend time on this next one. While I've liked the recent TR's, I don't want the series to end up like the crappy sports games that get released EVERY year.

I'd actually prefer a 3-4 year wait(Square Enix style) than one every year and a 1/2 or so

I have my doubts this will be a good game that will be made but hopefully I'll be proven wrong. I say this game is do or die for CD. They've all ready rebooted the series once and they're all ready doing it again for the second time during their reign and if they fail to deliver, not only with the fanbase(who I consider minority) but fail also to bring in new fans to the series, then I feel it would be best to kill this franchise(sadly).

Sounds mean but its the sad truth, if this reboot fails,TR will just become even more of a joke than it all ready it is to the majority of the gaming world. I'd rather have the franchise die with at least SOME dignity than reboot after reboot after reboot. That's just my opinion on that matter :nut:

I couldn't agree more, especially with the unreal engine thing.

Also, I do agree with you on waiting about 4 years or maybe even slightly longer, I'm sure fans can cope with other games until then. Besides as you said this could be the final chance to break TR back into a more popular franchise than the last 3 games have been. At the minute, Lara has only her fans that will one day cease to exist (I know fans say TR 4 Life, but your not going to waste your money on practically the same game).

(I know fans say TR 4 Life, but your not going to waste your money on practically the same game).

Well we have been doing so for the past 13 years so..... I agree the format is getting stale at the moment though especially with the few linear design things such as the ledges and the ledge hopping are in need of a serious overhaul atm.

Personally I don't think this reboot is a bad thing (ducks as Josh throws rotten tomatoes at me) especially considering so much need to be overhauled atm. It keeps things fresh.

True, but I never actually played the classics, the only one being tomb raider 2. I never touched TR again until I had a go at angel of darkness and then legend (and so forth). Anyway, I guess for me the gameplay never got too samey with me because I only ever played two of them:eek:

They've never really hooked me as much as some (to an extent yes) but I find a lot of games don't hook me but I still enjoy playing them...

Then again is it really the gameplay? To be honest if they fixed the animations (Underworld) and found a better way to implament them into levels then maybe it might not feel as samey? To be honest I think Lara should walk/run different when in combat than she does when not in combat (relaxed set of animations).

Or maybe I'm an Idiot to think that:lol:

Double post = epic! (Only kidding)

One thing this new game might add is that Lara might actually wear proper clothes, finally.:thumb:

I mean I'm not being stupid but you do not wear shorts in a cold place, nor do you wear a wetsuit in the artic sea. I think they should stop focusing as much on her apparent 'sexiness'. Why? I'm sorry but I feel that this type of thing makes the game seem less believable (bear with me). I mean if she is in a hot place then fair enough (in moderation).

:D

Was it a rant or was it not?:nut:

Well thats your opinion and I strongly disagree. So many reboots just makes this franchise a complete joke and will ultimately turn even the die hard fans away. That's a no brainer.

The gaming world is tired of Lara as it is at the moment with just one reboot, this being the second. They can't keep rebooting the franchise over and over, thats just idiotic to do so. It doesn't make sense

Again I state. Id rather have this franchise die out than have reboot after reboot after reboot. If this new game coming up fails, what are they going to do, reboot AGAIN? come on -_-

I disagree with Ants about the whole sexiness thing. She's always had a sex appeal from the very beginning. I'm not sure why not people are just starting to get offended over it. I think people just need to deal with the fact that shes a character built on sex appeal and that won't change as long as shes around. It's pretty much her image and always will be.

I agree with the fact she should wear clothes that suits her environment, but she wore proper stuff in underworld(shorts in heat, heavy clothes in cold areas). If you got other outfits, it was players choice to have her wear something. So I'm not seeing what the problem is?

I kinda disagree with myself after writing that post. I think my main point was that she should wear clothes to suit the environment as opposed to clothes that promote her 'sex appeal', but as always I rambled a bit. Anywho, I just think that the game is more obsessed with Lara instead of other (supporting) characters and story, to be fair think that is just me:lol:

Not a problem by the way I'm just always interested (more so obsessed)in the small details of things like, can I shoot the light and have it break and all the other crap that I probably should overlook, which in my head stuff like that comes under the small detail category. Of course I don't rate games that don't as bad games I just like things to be grounded somewhat in reality. Thus, heavier outfits for colder climates and less clothing for warmer climates.

Too be honest I don't even know why I wrote that other post:scratch:
People are probably better ignoring that (or me in general)

Which they were, unless the player chose otherwise.

Also about your nitpicking on little things. I have one of those as well, like in games I always want to be able to break off a lock or shoot a lock on a door to open it(this is not TR related). Hardly any game allows me to do that, its annoying lol

One out of those two are dead and gone now, so CORE if it wants some initials, we'll just call it R.I.P, that fits
