Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition and Windows 10 Anniversary Update

I've been playing this game for a couple of weeks (and really enjoying it, I must add) without any issues until I installed the Anniversary Update for Windows 10 a few days ago. Now, I can launch the game, select continue game, the game loads ok, but crashes to desktop as soon as I press a key or move the mouse!

Tried a few hours of Googling, but found nothing. I know it's an old game now, but is there any help out there? It would be most appreciated!

It sounds to me like the game is working but your game save file got corrupted. Could be a result of the update changing something or making an incompatibility. Try using the LOAD GAME feature and see if it works. If not, try making a NEW GAME and see if that works.

If neither work, it could be Sleeping Dogs. Try verifying your game's cache integrity through Steam. See if it finds anything wrong. If it does, let the files be corrected/redownloaded and installed.

If you are still having problems, make note of the error you get and be AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. Take a screenshot of the error if you can.

You indicate you are on Windows 10. I'm more familiar with how to do this on Windows 7 so just try to copy the steps on your end:
    1) Look for EVENT VIEWER in your search box
    2) Click on WINDOWS LOGS (a menu will drop down)
    3) Click on APPLICATION (you will see a list of info; ignore it for now)
    4) On the right-hand side, Click FILTER CURRENT LOG
    5) Under EVENT LEVEL, check CRITICAL, WARNING, and ERROR. Click OK.
    6) Locate the time and date the crash occurred around and review the logs.

If you have any CRITICAL, ERROR, or WARNINGS around the time and date that you witnessed the crash, post them here as well. The more information we can gather on your problem the better.

OK; so to review, I'm asking for the following:
-verify that you can load saved games (try to load a game)
-verify that you can make a new save game (try to make a new save game)
-verify the files aren't corrupted/incorrect (verify your game's cache)
-detail the error window (screenshot the error window/screen)
-detail your application logs for the game crashes (post the application logs)

I'll try to help you as much as I can.

Thanks for the response. Sorry for the delay in replying. OK, here's what I've tried so far...

Verify integrity of game cache - Still crashes
Decrease all settings to minimum - Still crashes
Uninstall, reinstall and run old save - Still crashes
Delete old saves and start a new game - Still crashes
Run as administrator - Still crashes
Run in compatability mode for Windows 8 - Still crashes
Run in compatability mode for Windows 7 - Still crashes

Here is a screenshot of the crash error I get:

And here are the details from Event Viewer:

After doing a little research, it may have something to do with the GPU. Apparently, SD DE may not think it's running on native graphic settings and switches over to Integrated GPU or something. Check this thread out on the Steam Community site for more info:

Alrighty; so what that gobbledy-gook in Event Viewer is basically saying is that your SD executable file (i.e: the game) is crashing. Not much more info I can pull from it that isn't self-explanatory. However, take a look at the error code:

A little bit of juicy info that we can use.

Researching the Internet, seems to be some sort of ACCESS VIOLATION. Here's what I could find on the matter:

    http://compfreakstars.blogspot.com/2...-day-many.html

If the game was fine until you installed the update, then there might be something wrong with the update. These things happen unfortunately. Software isn't perfect.

Try some of the suggestions provided and get back to me if you are still having problems.
